Essay Hercules
What Is A Myth?
A myth is a purely fictional story that has been passed on for generations, usually involving
supernatural persons, actions or events. Hercules (also called Herakles), is one of the strongest and
most celebrated mythical heroes. These myths were made up thousands of years ago and have
acquired more details as they have been passed down. The story of Hercules is one of a man who was
so strong and courageous, whose deeds were so mighty, and who so endured all the hardships that
were given to him, that when he died, Hercules was brought up to Mount Olympus to live with the
gods.
Hercules was both the most famous hero of ancient times and the most beloved. More ... Show more

Even worse, Hercules had to perform these labors for his cousin, King Eurystheus. Eurystheus was the
king of Tiryns and had a reputation for being mean. Hercules knew the king would give him a hard
time. For 12 years Hercules would have to perform these labors.
Hercules did receive some good news from Apollo. He told Hercules that after these tasks were
completed, Hercules would become immortal. Unlike other men, he would become a god.
The 12 Labors Of Hercules
THE NEMEAN LION When Hercules arrived at the palace of King Eurystheus, his first task was to
bring the king the skin of a lion which terrorized the hills around Nemea. When Hercules arrived at
Nemea, he tracked the lion to a cave with 2 entrances. His arrows were useless against the beast.
Hercules decided to block one of the doorways and then approach the fierce lion through the other.
Grasping the lion in his mighty arms, Hercules held it tightly until the lion choked to death. Hercules
then returned to Mycenae, carrying the dead lion in his arms. King Eurystheus was amazed that
Hercules was able to accomplish this task. From this point on, the king became afraid of Hercules and
forbade him from entering the city. The king also began sending his commands through a herald,
refusing to see the hero face to face.

Short Term Memory Analysis
One of the most important models that exists in education is how the brain learns and stores
information. Knowing this information allows teachers to plan successful lessons for students to learn.
Dr. David A. Sousa explains these two processes through a model with different visuals to represent
how the short term and long term memory store information. The brain learns through the senses, and
in order, most people learn best through sight, then hearing, then touching. Short term memory is what
we consider to be temporary, and it has a short span of time where it can adequately remember
information. The short term memory can also be interrupted in the case of a distraction in the
classroom. The two separate parts in short term memory are immediate ... Show more content on

The clipboard represents that we can either decide to keep the information, or easily extract it from the
clipboard and get rid of it. Then if we decide the information is important, it continues on to the
working memory. This is where we mess with the information we carry over from the immediate
memory in order to hopefully store it later. The information that makes it here is then further broken
down through two questions referring to if the information makes sense and if it has meaning. In order
for a person to store information in their long term memory, it must make sense and connect with
previous knowledge and/or have some sort of future use or connection to the learner. The working
memory is a work table because that is where we filter through, pull apart, and work with the
information we have gained to see what is worth keeping. We lastly go to the long term storage which
is represented with filing cabinets as to file it away. This information is information we see as useful
or makes an emotional connection. This is an important and useful model because it helps teachers to
understand the processes of memory in order to teach new information, and how to plan lessons

Does Rome Have Too Much Power Essay
Winston Churchill once said, History is written by the victors. Humans are so consumed with what is
spoken, written, or otherwise presented of themselves; who presents it however, controls how the
situation is perceived. From ancient Rome to modern America, countries of great power have
perfected the art of telling stories from one side, the winners view. The Roman Empire was possibly
the most successful and influential empire to ever exist. The empire s success was a result of military
conquering extending throughout most of southern Europe and northern Africa. After overcoming the
opponents Romans would inhabit new territories and instill their culture upon the unwilling new
citizens of Rome. Had Rome not won battles such as Lake Regillus ... Show more content on

The term mentoring has surged into the literature in many disciplines (e.g., sociology, social
psychology, education, management, social work, healthcare management, etc.) over the last several
decades. Mentoring emerged in the organizational literature in the late 1970s (e.g., Clawson, 1979;
Collins and Scott, 1978; Kanter, 1977; Phillips, 1977; Roche, 1979; Shapiro et al., 1978). Since that
time, hundreds of books and articles (popular press, practitioner oriented, and academic) have been
published on mentoring in various organizational settings alone, not to mention other settings in which
mentoring has been examined (e.g., teaching, nursing, social work, etc.) (Kelly, 2001). Published
works in the organizational literature on mentoring have been anecdotal, conceptual, and empirical;
and several journals have dedicated special editions to mentoring. By and large, these published works
have highlighted the overwhelming perceived benefits (e.g., increased mobility, promotion
opportunity, and total compensation), and minimal perceived drawbacks of mentoring (Campion and
Goldfinch, 1983; Kelly, 2001; Scandura, 1992, 1998; Whitely et al., 1991, 1992). Hence, mentoring
has been proclaimed as one of the key career development and advancement tools in the

Essay On Pig To Human Xenotransplantation
There are 8,000 humans waiting for a life saving [organ] transplant, . These people are unable to get
organs because there is not enough human organs for the people who need them. With this epidemic
scientists and doctors turn to pigs for the answer. Pig organs are anatomically similar to humans, states
surgeon C. Growth. The problem with pig to human xenotransplantation is that pigs contain
proviruses, such as PERVs, that are harmful to humans. With new technology, geneticists have found a
way to cut and paste gene sequences. Geneticists are starting pig to human xenotransplantation with
pig stomachs because they contain very little PERV, and with CRISPR they are able to make
xenotransplantation safe for humans.

The thousands of people waiting for a human stomach transplantation might receive a pig s stomach
instead. When a patient needs a new stomach, he is placed on the organ donor list for a new human
stomach. This patient could be waiting years before he would offered a human stomach. When the
patient receives the transplant, he has to hope his body accepts the new stomach, and that there are no
diseases within the stomach. Once clinical xenotransplantation becomes available there will be no
organ shortages and it will be possible to offer transplantation to all patients in need, declares surgeon
C. Growth.
Once the patient receives the pig stomach transplantation, him and his offsprings with be monitored
most or all of their lives. This is done to make sure their body does not reject the stomach or get a
disease for the stomach. To a person in need of a new stomach, this is a small price to pay for a
healthier life. With CRISPR geneticists are able to give stomachs to patients who need them, but with
the small risk that the PERV gene was not cut out and comes back. Geneticists acknowledge this risk
and make sure that everything is properly done and makes the need of stomachs no

throughout its course in time. These days, racing takes place in a multitude of formats with a
collection of newly established rules and regulations. You don t need to follow each and every rule to

Jump Racing
Jump racing is another form that mostly caters to Thoroughbred horses, and is considerably more
hazardous that flat racing due to the company of obstacles that horses has to leap over. These obstacles
mostly include hurdles, fences, or ditches. The increased risks have led to it being banned in some
countries like Australia. It is still a popular form of race in Europe and the US, where it is recognized
as steeplechasing.
In the UK and Ireland, it s known as National Hunt racing and there are two codes hurdles and

Problems Associated With Educational Video Games Into...
In order for the United States to increase their worldwide K 12 educational efficiency ranking and
avoid improper usage of such technological resources, school districts must perform a slow
implementation of technological devices and their associated educational video games into their K 12
curriculum. Many of the problems associated with the LAUSD iPad Initiative could have been
avoided if the school district tested the use of iPads on a few selected schools as oppose to
immediately implementing the devices into every school in the district. Through the slow integration
solution, faculty and program designers could have modified the problems associated with the devices
and discover what areas the devices prove to be most useful. Once the problems have been resolved,
the program could have been expanded to other schools deemed ready for the rollout of the iPads or
other device if the iPad was deemed insufficient. Also, slow integration would be more cost effective
as the program would not require 1.3 billion dollars as a starter cost for the program. However, many
critics would point out that a process of slow integration would take a large amount of time and
resources before any proof of educational increases within individual school districts, barring the
question: how do educators implement these technological resources into their K 12 curriculum. To
combat these critics, Min Liu, professor and program area coordinator in subjects pertaining to
technology

Advertising is an effective way to promote a product, but only if the advertisers can create an
advertisement that can catch the attention of the others and leave an impact on them. Advertisement
images are different depend on the styles of the producers and the purposes of the products; however,
they all need to have the linguistic message and the visual image to guide the viewers into the right
directions. Besides this, the advertisements should be fitting into the country s events or historical
circumstances to be more effective. Besides being known for its delicious spicy food, beautiful islands
and beaches, and dazzling Buddhism gold statue, Thailand is also being known for child prostitution.
According to ECPAT, in 2009, there are about 30,000 to 40,000 children being involved in child
prostitution (5). This is the reason why a Thailand agency, Hakuhodo Bangkok Remix Studio, released
its advertisement for a floor cleaner in March, 2013 (6). Its synergy of the text, image, and kairos
reveal its main purposes: showing the effectiveness of the product, and raising awareness for one of
the world s biggest problems, child prostitution.

Basketball was started by James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He
invented Basketball because he teached his class. He divided 18 students to two teams and taught his
students the basics of his game. He got the idea from Aztec Indians.
The rules are to dribble the ball, shoot the ball, pass the ball, and play as a team. To dribble the ball,
you cannot travel. If you walk with the ball during the game, the reff s will call it and you will get a
turn over. To shoot the ball, you have to be open so that your opponent won t block you. There are two
groups that are divided into 5 players. Each team has to try and win the game by making as much as

Personal Narrative-Goose Hunting
H is for Hunting I remember the time my brothers and Sean and I went goose hunting. It was one of
the best times of my life. We woke up early and went out to the field. My brothers and Sean and I got
settled in the blind and loaded our guns. We sat there for awhile and finally we had a group of four
come in. My brother Jake and Sean started to call them in closer. Finally they were close enough for
us to shoot. We shot one out of that group of four. Then we had another group of three come in on the
right side of the blind. We all shot and missed but my brother Tanner had one more shot left and he
shot one. I got out of the blind and got the goose and brought it back to the blind and Sean took the
goose and held it up and said that s probably the biggest goose I ve ever saw before. Then we had a
goose about a hundred yards away and Jake and Sean started calling and it finally started to make its
way to our blind. That goose came right in front of our blind and Tanner and I pulled up out of the
blind and shot it. At the end of that day we shot six geese. The next morning we all woke up and got
dressed and went out to the blind but this morning we went to the bean field because that night it
snowed so there was some snow on the field and Sean told us that geese can eat easier in the bean

Extended Temporal Discourse
The mechanisms that influence the behavior, physiological stress, and fitness of natural populations
may be altered due to the interaction with a species temporal niche. Defined as the entrainment of 24 h
rhythms whose time is characterized by the period and the phase of the light: dark cycle (Smarr et al.
2013), the temporal niche characterizes the time of day an individual is active, which in turn defines
the environmental conditions the individual is subjugated to, as well as the timing of interspecific
competitive and predator prey interactions (Gaston et al. 2014). If an organism is exposed to a
zeitgeber that produces repetitive and predictable environmental changes, the individual can shift their
temporal niche due to entrainment processes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is unlikely that this behavior has evolved in response to the presence of artificial light, which may
constitute as a super stimulus, such as for the nocturnal orb web spider Larinioides sclopetarius
(Heiling 1999). Furthermore, species might be influenced by physiological stress that is impacted by
ALANN stimuli. Studies have shown exposure to brief periods of high intensity or prolonged periods
of low intensity ALANN alters the patterns of circadian clock gene expression and melatonin
production (Gaston et al. 2014). A reduction in melatonin reduces an animal s tolerance to high
temperatures as well as their ability to lower their body temperature (Vanecek 1998; Perry et al. 2008).
For all species, melatonin production is increased at night/ longer dark periods, regardless if they are
active during the day or night (Vanecek 1998). Species may therefore lose essential dark refugia,
which may cause misleading behaviors if species are not able to escape ALANN interference with
their preferred dark

Condominium Court Cases
Transparency breeds Legitimacy: 3 tips for your Condominium Association to avoid a Lawsuit
Many condominium board members volunteer to serve their condominium association for altruistic
purposes. While often well intentioned, it is not uncommon for board members to not have any
training that would make them aware of potential pitfalls that commonly entangle a condominium
association in litigation. In other instances, co owners may have self interested motives for serving on
a board that cloud their business judgment. Under either scenario, a condominium association can be
subject to a lawsuit if it is not operated properly. As will be discussed below, lack of transparency is a
common reason for many co owner lawsuits against condominium associations. The three (3) most
common reasons for a lawsuit against a condominium association related to transparency issues is 1)
failing to prepare adequate financial statements 2) failing to respond to requests to inspect the books
and records of the condominium association and 3) failing to hold elections.

The Treatment Of Bibi Haldar By Jhumpa Lahiri
This excerpt from The Treatment of Bibi Haldar by Jhumpa Lahiri has multiple themes, but one that
really stands out above others is the effects of ignorance. One would disagree with my choice of
theme, but one must not be so rash with their disagreement, first you must look at the writing
techniques and the choice of words that Lahiri uses in the excerpt. The ignorance in which I talk about
circulates around Bibi s family. If Lahiri describes her events in chronological order, which I believe
she does, then we can see that in the first paragraph, the family first expresses their ignorance of this
poor girl s illness when they contact priests, religion, etc. in order to heal their daughter instead of
official medical specialists. In the following paragraph, the author informs us of the many specialists
in the medical field that the family had contacted in regards to Bibi s ailment. None of ... Show more

of that, she has to work in order to get cotton for clothes, not even clothes; she also had to work for
her daily meals, and provisions. These factors are not uncontrollable factors, nor are they factors that
are unchangeable, but do to her family s ignorance, these factors exist Unfortunately, Bibi is forced to
live like this, and due to her own ignorance, she doesn t know any better.
Ignorance can have so many negative effects. Lahiri shows us evidence of the ignorance in each of the
paragraphs from the excerpt; the words she chooses in the paragraphs help the reader recognize her
theme, being ignorance. Lahiri has taught us that ignorance is truly NOT bliss; in fact, it s the opposite
of bliss. Ignorance does not only cause sorrow, sadness, unhappiness, and pain unto yourself but also

Recognizing the Temporal Dynamics of the Face
Fig. 1.1 Universal Emotions
Most of the developed methods try to recognize the basic expressions and some attempts at
recognizing non basic expressions. However, there have been very few attempts at recognizing the
temporal dynamics of the face. Temporal dynamics denotes to the timing and time length of facial
actions. The significant terms that are used in joining with temporal dynamics are: onset, apex and
offset. These are known as the temporal segments of an expression [40]. Onset is the instance when
the facial expression starts, apex is the point when the expression is at its peak and offset is when the
expression fades away (start of offset is when the expression starts to fade, and the end of offset is
when the expression completely fades out). Similarly, onset time is defined as the time taken from
start to the peak, apex time is defined as the complete time at the peak and offset time is defined as the
total time from a peak to the stop. Pantic and Patras have reported successful recognition of facial AUs
and their temporal segments [2]. By doing so, they have been able to recognize a much larger range of
expressions.
Another very important type of expression classification is posed and spontaneous . Posed expressions
are the artificial expressions that a subject will produce when he or she is requested to do so. This is
commonly the case when the subject is under normal test condition or under observation in a
laboratory.
In contrast, natural expressions are

The Bean Trees Mother Figures Essay
The author Barbara Kingsolver once said, Sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than
natural laws. This means that mothers can go through great lengths and even break laws for their
children. In the book The Bean Trees , Kingsolver portrays that quote by writing about Taylor s
experiences with an abandoned child named Turtle. Kingsolver included several characters in the book
that act as mother figures. Barbara Kingsolver seems to be saying that a mother does not have to come
biologically through the characters of Taylor, Lou Ann, and Mattie. Lou Ann is a character that was

Assessment Of Shell s Corporate Social Responsibility
Topic: Assessment of shell s corporate social responsibility in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria
Executive Summary
Oil for over a decade has been the main source of income for the Nigerian economy. It accounts for
more than 70% of export. The Niger Delta region of Nigeria has been plagued with different negative
effects of oil exploration. The environment, economy and even quality of human life have been
greatly affected. This has created a lack of trust between the inhabitants and the oil companies, and
even with the Nigerian government.
Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) has been viewed in different ways by different school of
thoughts; some see it has a voluntary initiative, while others think it s a main part of every company s
structure and even an opportunity to improve brand. For this work, we would take the position of the
later argument. It is simply giving back to the environment that you gain from. It involves protection
of the environment, development of quality of the occupants of the environment and improving their
quality of life. Like Barnard (1938), it is analyzing the social, economic, moral, legal and physical
aspects of the environment.
This project seeks to objectively analyze the activities of oil companies in this region. Shell, a major
player in the oil industry of Nigeria received the spotlight. An extensive analysis of their CSR was
done. This was achieved by comparing with different standards; notably the ISO26000. A review of

Advantages and disadvantages of distributing bonuses to individuals are broad, but just basing on
statistics won t reveal the sustainability of performances from employees in the long run. Firstly,
organisations such as the food industry tend to reward their individuals PRP, Performance related Pay,
especially to roles such as sales and marketing (Wilkinson 2015). By giving bonuses for individuals
unlocks a counterproductive spectrum inside the employee, hence making the workplace to a much
more competitive environment. However after further research done by Journal of Business Research ,
it concludes with an opposite result. Distributing bonuses in Groups has a higher chance to product
more cooperative, team work mindset imbedded into their employees compared to individual
performances (Wilkinson 2015). Should every organisation change the way of distributing bonuses?
No, Performance related pay plans are essentially ubiquitous, but they come with a price.
Organisations (e.g. Motorola) ended up spending millions of dollars in PRP plans, and the outcome
viewed like investment is increasing. With the

Kittredge A Case Of Witchcraft Summary
In the article, A Case of Witchcraft by G. L. Kittredge, the main issue is that a majority of men and
women were accused of witchcraft; which led to an excessive amount of torture and executions.
Kittredge argues that with large bulks of documents and recordings of witch trials lost, we are unable
to comprehend the prosecutions unless we have a better grasp of the mindset that many people had
during that time. George Lyman Kittredge is an outstanding professor and English literature scholar
from Harvard University. Additionally, he has experienced a great number of historical commodities,
as well as becoming one of the most influential American literary critics of the early 20th century.
Kittredge uses a multitude of examples from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether the accused persons were ever brought to trial we do not know, but it is clear that Ridgeway
had these documents prepared for eventual use at the assizes (Kittridge, 1917, 6). Kittredge makes
opinions based off the readings and instances to comprehend what was going on at the time and build
a better argument. There are a copious amount of strengths in Kittredges article. First of all, one of the
strengths would be that he utilizes strong vocabulary and sentences that increases the impact of his
argument. This allows readers to understand his view so that he can more freely express his opinions,
for example when he states that, The precise meaning of this railing speech escapes me, but I fancy it
was equivalent to calling John a scatter brained fool. The phrase reminds one, though perhaps
whimsically, of Pandar s contemptuous Yea, hazelwood! in Chaucer s Troilus. We may also adduce,
tentatively, the common saying Your wits are gone wool gathering (Kittredge, 1917, 8). He constantly
helps inform the readers by writing his thoughts, assisting them to conceive his ideas as well as using
strong words to guide the readers in what he is trying to say. Additionally, his work is thorough, clear,
and significant, as he

Pickens Plan
Over the past century, the United States has created an enormous vehicle transportation infrastructure
solely based on one energy source, which is oil. Successful implementation of the Pickens Plan must
involve two major shifts when it comes to the U.S. energy consumption: replacing natural gas with
wind power as a significant source of electricity generation and replacing oil with natural gas as far as
transportation is concerned. If T. Boone Pickens Plan were to be successfully implemented, the global
price of oil would decrease because the plan itself would significantly decrease the demand for oil.
Therefore, when the demand drops, the price will go down as well. Pickens plan would reduce
demand for oil in two different ways. First, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a tariff on oil comes an incentive for people to reduce their use of oil and it makes the U.S. much
more independent. The domestic oil industry, would highly support this because it protects our home
country s producers from the competition of cheap OPEC oil imports. Producers of renewable energy
sources would support the tariff because a high oil price makes alternatives to oil more attractive.
Particularly, it offers a powerful reason to bring manufacturing back to North America. As shown on
the graphs that I have constructed, a tariff though it may result in some dead weight losses, it
nonetheless provides the incentive to reduce oil consumption and spending in this country and it also
provides tax revenue. When it comes to the positive externality graph based on the emphasis the
Pickens Plan places on natural gas in America, one can see the benefits the plan provides for the U.S,
economy as a whole. Yes, one can make the argument that there is simply no demand for such a
change at all whatsoever, however, assuming there were subsidies implemented for the Pickens Plan,
we see demand shift to the right, thus conveying that there will be demand if a good incentive is
provided to the U.S. consumers. It would be plausible for the U.S. to cut off spending billions of
dollars to foreign countries and spend its money and focus to move vehicles away from oil, and rely
on renewable energies such as solar, wind, biofuels, which would in effect, create jobs here in the
United States. This would be a better alternative than having the United States spend huge amounts of
money for oil

The Survival Of Man Depends On The Early Construction Of...
Introduction The survival of man depends on the early construction of an ultraintelligent machine
(Good, 1965). As early as the 1960s renowned scientists such as Good and Neumann theorized of an
intelligence explosion, now known as the technology singularity, resulting from intelligent machines
designing their next generation without human intervention. This idea of artificial intelligence (AI) has
grown immensely and is a common topic amongst scholars, scientists, and theorists in the mathematic
and scientific world. The key idea underlying the impending Singularity is that the pace of change of
our human created technology is accelerating and its powers are expanding at an exponential pace.
Exponential growth is deceptive. It starts out almost imperceptibly and then explodes with unexpected
fury unexpected, that is, if one does not take care to follow its trajectory (Kurzweil, 8, 2005). Ray
Kurzweil a scientist, inventor, author, and current director of engineering at Google is the leading
theorist of the Singularity. So what is the singularity you ask? Most simply put Kurzweil defines it as,
a future period during which the pace of technological change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that
human life will be irreversibly transformed (Kurzweil, 2005, 7). Currently we are in the early stages of
the transition. The acceleration of the paradigm shift (the rate at which we change fundamental
technical approached) as well as the exponential growth of

Valley Fold Studios Marketing Mix
In our major project, we in Valley Fold Studios will be creating a puzzle game for touchscreen
devices, where the player manipulates paper like structures into origami in three dimensional space.
Our goal is to create a well polished product that can be released to the public, primarily as something
we can be proud of and use to promote ourselves, as well as to potentially create something that we
can sell.
The target market that we expect our game to appeal to is mobile gamers in general. We are targeting
the wide age range that is represented in mobile gaming with the median age being 27. We expect that
our game will be gender neutral, appealing mostly to a teenage and older audience as the puzzles will
require calm thinking to complete. We intend for the game to be playable in short sessions, with easy
to learn mechanics and simple yet involving puzzles, giving the game a pick up and play nature that
can be played while commuting or anywhere that the player has a few minutes of time to spare.
We intend to publish the game on one of, or both Google Play, and the Apple app store. Publishing to
android will most likely be an easier process as apple will require us to wait about six days or more for
the game to be reviewed, and there are 180 guidelines that the app must follow, however ... Show

* The Formal Operational Stage (11 years plus)
All of these 4 developmental stages have sub stages for each age range.

Mandatory Overtime In Nursing
Nurses have a professional obligation to be informed about staffing as part of their concern and
obligation to patients that they are caring for. Why? As nurses, having enough staff to cover all
patients, and possible patients that are coming in are very important to make sure that nurses are not
overloaded. However, nurse managers, charge nurses and other administration staff of the hospital or
organization are responsible of staffing, all nurses are still held responsible to their patients and the
profession as a nurse. Any companies or organization that you work for, it is best to make sure that the
department has enough staff. Professional variability can have a negative effect on staffing and
scheduling. It can be difficult to fulfill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If nurses are sleepy, and burnout, they might tend to find a shortcut of giving care to the patient. These
kind of shortcut can create medication errors, poor quality of care given, and can cause death. For
example, at my current clinical site, the nurse that I was shadowing told me story about his co worker
and a very good friend. She was a single mother, and the hospital required for them to work
mandatory overtime. As a single mother, when you come home from a 12hours shift, your job do not
stop. Basically, what happened was the single mother had a young patient age 8 10 that was about to
be discharged, and for some reason, an insulin was ordered by the MD to be given to that healthy

Japanese Internment Camps In Canada
The Internment of Japanese and Italian Canadians Canada is presently known for welcoming many
racial groups into the country. However, the Canadian government is not always giving out warm
welcomes to different ethnicities. During World War Two, the country rejects many Japanese and
Italians who are already Canadian. The treatment of the Japanese and Italians in the Second World
War is very unjust. The two groups face being put into internment camps against their own will, the
government separates families and force men to work on farms with little pay. The government of
Canada also mistreat the Japanese and Italian Canadians because they are full of fear and superstition.

They work in farms to fill labor shortages, are packed into small trains and sent to internment camps.
Most Italians work in the trades sector but are forced to work in farms. In 1942, V.G. McGulgan,
president of the Kent County Federation of Agriculture suggested that, Italian war prisoners and
Canadian Japanese be employed in farm labor camps as means of filling the acute labor shortage. This
shows that the Japanese and Italians were sent to internment camps to work in farms to fill in labor
shortages. Sending them to work in camps to satisfy employment deficiency is unjust considering that
the Japanese and Italian Canadian have to work all day with a small amount of pay.
Subsequently, to get to the camps, families were packed into small trains where they had to ride on for
hours to get to their destination. Men and women were separated once they reached their camps. Most
men stayed at Camp Petawawa and Camp Ripples, whereas, women stayed at the Kingston
Penitentiary. The men and women were separated from their loved ones as a punishment and for the
different types of labor each gender may have had. Being divided from their own families may have
been a traumatizing experience as they would not know the next time they will see them again,

NER Case Study
As I mentioned earlier, mutations in your NER or more specifically your GG NER is responsible for
genetics diseases such as XP. This disease is mostly linked with the inability to repair cells that
contain photoproducts in your DNA that is initiated by UV light. These photoproducts include the (5
5) and (6 6) cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) and the (6 4) pyrimidine pyrimidinone dimers
(PDs) that can involve T and C pyrimidines [7]. As these DNA are not repaired due to the lack of NER
proteins, a mutation will occur which will substitute a Cytosine base to a Thymine base, it is most
common when there are two Cytosine bases next to each other where it will go from CC to TT. This is
very commonly found in protein p53. Patients with XP C ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients with XP V will have different, more mild symptoms compared to other XP patients, as they
can still remove the damaged DNA.
There are no chromosomal abnormalities present in XP unlike Down s syndrome. Chromosome
abnormalities is associated with defective DNA repair. Irradiation of normal and XP cells by UV light
induces chromatid and chromosome aberrations, and one study indicates that more chromatid
aberrations are found in XP cells than in normal cells 24 hr after irradiation [11, 12]. As Sasaki et al.
[12, 13] showed, XP lymphocytes were more prone to growth delay and chromosome aberration
production of 4 nitroquinoline 1 oxide (4NQO) but in XP cells, the 4NQO reparation is defective. As
XP is autosomal recessive, only carriers with both recessive allele will show symptoms of the disease.
Studies of DNA repair in XP heterozygotes have revealed that heterozygous cells show the same
levels of DNA repair as normal cells. There are currently no cures for XP, the only solution is
consistent UV radiation protection which can significantly decrease the amount of skin lesions or
cancer. Keratosis can be treated with cryotherapy or fluorouracil. It hasn t been attempted but
according to Halpern et al. [14], theoretically by inserting functional endonuclease genes into every
cell in the body using the gene editing tool CRISPR, it might be able to cure XP and allow NER to
function normally.
XP is a rare autosomal recessive disease that

  • 2. Essay Hercules What Is A Myth? A myth is a purely fictional story that has been passed on for generations, usually involving supernatural persons, actions or events. Hercules (also called Herakles), is one of the strongest and most celebrated mythical heroes. These myths were made up thousands of years ago and have acquired more details as they have been passed down. The story of Hercules is one of a man who was so strong and courageous, whose deeds were so mighty, and who so endured all the hardships that were given to him, that when he died, Hercules was brought up to Mount Olympus to live with the gods. Hercules was both the most famous hero of ancient times and the most beloved. More ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even worse, Hercules had to perform these labors for his cousin, King Eurystheus. Eurystheus was the king of Tiryns and had a reputation for being mean. Hercules knew the king would give him a hard time. For 12 years Hercules would have to perform these labors. Hercules did receive some good news from Apollo. He told Hercules that after these tasks were completed, Hercules would become immortal. Unlike other men, he would become a god. The 12 Labors Of Hercules THE NEMEAN LION When Hercules arrived at the palace of King Eurystheus, his first task was to bring the king the skin of a lion which terrorized the hills around Nemea. When Hercules arrived at Nemea, he tracked the lion to a cave with 2 entrances. His arrows were useless against the beast. Hercules decided to block one of the doorways and then approach the fierce lion through the other. Grasping the lion in his mighty arms, Hercules held it tightly until the lion choked to death. Hercules then returned to Mycenae, carrying the dead lion in his arms. King Eurystheus was amazed that Hercules was able to accomplish this task. From this point on, the king became afraid of Hercules and forbade him from entering the city. The king also began sending his commands through a herald, refusing to see the hero face to face. • 3. Short Term Memory Analysis One of the most important models that exists in education is how the brain learns and stores information. Knowing this information allows teachers to plan successful lessons for students to learn. Dr. David A. Sousa explains these two processes through a model with different visuals to represent how the short term and long term memory store information. The brain learns through the senses, and in order, most people learn best through sight, then hearing, then touching. Short term memory is what we consider to be temporary, and it has a short span of time where it can adequately remember information. The short term memory can also be interrupted in the case of a distraction in the classroom. The two separate parts in short term memory are immediate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The clipboard represents that we can either decide to keep the information, or easily extract it from the clipboard and get rid of it. Then if we decide the information is important, it continues on to the working memory. This is where we mess with the information we carry over from the immediate memory in order to hopefully store it later. The information that makes it here is then further broken down through two questions referring to if the information makes sense and if it has meaning. In order for a person to store information in their long term memory, it must make sense and connect with previous knowledge and/or have some sort of future use or connection to the learner. The working memory is a work table because that is where we filter through, pull apart, and work with the information we have gained to see what is worth keeping. We lastly go to the long term storage which is represented with filing cabinets as to file it away. This information is information we see as useful or makes an emotional connection. This is an important and useful model because it helps teachers to understand the processes of memory in order to teach new information, and how to plan lessons ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Humans are so consumed with what is spoken, written, or otherwise presented of themselves; who presents it however, controls how the situation is perceived. The Roman Empire was possibly the most successful and influential empire to ever exist. The term mentoring has surged into the literature in many disciplines (e.g., sociology, social psychology, education, management, social work, healthcare management, etc.) over the last several decades. Mentoring emerged in the organizational literature in the late 1970s (e.g., Clawson, 1979; Collins and Scott, 1978; Kanter, 1977; Phillips, 1977; Roche, 1979; Shapiro et al., 1978). Since that time, hundreds of books and articles (popular press, practitioner oriented, and academic) have been published on mentoring in various organizational settings alone, not to mention other settings in which mentoring has been examined (e.g., teaching, nursing, social work, etc.) (Kelly, 2001). Published works in the organizational literature on mentoring have been anecdotal, conceptual, and empirical; and several journals have dedicated special editions to mentoring. By and large, these published works have highlighted the overwhelming perceived benefits (e.g., increased mobility, promotion opportunity, and total compensation), and minimal perceived drawbacks of mentoring (Campion and Goldfinch, 1983; Kelly, 2001; Scandura, 1992, 1998; Whitely et al., 1991, 1992). These people are unable to get organs because there is not enough human organs for the people who need them. With this epidemic scientists and doctors turn to pigs for the answer. Pig organs are anatomically similar to humans, states surgeon C. Growth. The problem with pig to human xenotransplantation is that pigs contain proviruses, such as PERVs, that are harmful to humans. With new technology, geneticists have found a way to cut and paste gene sequences. Once clinical xenotransplantation becomes available there will be no organ shortages and it will be possible to offer transplantation to all patients in need, declares surgeon C. Growth. Once the patient receives the pig stomach transplantation, him and his offsprings with be monitored most or all of their lives. In order for the United States to increase their worldwide K 12 educational efficiency ranking and avoid improper usage of such technological resources, school districts must perform a slow implementation of technological devices and their associated educational video games into their K 12 curriculum. Many of the problems associated with the LAUSD iPad Initiative could have been avoided if the school district tested the use of iPads on a few selected schools as oppose to immediately implementing the devices into every school in the district. Through the slow integration solution, faculty and program designers could have modified the problems associated with the devices and discover what areas the devices prove to be most useful. Once the problems have been resolved, the program could have been expanded to other schools deemed ready for the rollout of the iPads or other device if the iPad was deemed insufficient. Also, slow integration would be more cost effective as the program would not require 1.3 billion dollars as a starter cost for the program. However, many critics would point out that a process of slow integration would take a large amount of time and resources before any proof of educational increases within individual school districts, barring the question: how do educators implement these technological resources into their K 12 curriculum. Defined as the entrainment of 24 h rhythms whose time is characterized by the period and the phase of the light: dark cycle (Smarr et al. 2013), the temporal niche characterizes the time of day an individual is active, which in turn defines the environmental conditions the individual is subjugated to, as well as the timing of interspecific competitive and predator prey interactions (Gaston et al. 2014). Studies have shown exposure to brief periods of high intensity or prolonged periods of low intensity ALANN alters the patterns of circadian clock gene expression and melatonin production (Gaston et al. 2014). A reduction in melatonin reduces an animal s tolerance to high temperatures as well as their ability to lower their body temperature (Vanecek 1998; Perry et al. 2008). For all species, melatonin production is increased at night/ longer dark periods, regardless if they are active during the day or night (Vanecek 1998). • 17. Recognizing the Temporal Dynamics of the Face Fig. 1.1 Universal Emotions Most of the developed methods try to recognize the basic expressions and some attempts at recognizing non basic expressions. However, there have been very few attempts at recognizing the temporal dynamics of the face. Temporal dynamics denotes to the timing and time length of facial actions. The significant terms that are used in joining with temporal dynamics are: onset, apex and offset. These are known as the temporal segments of an expression [40]. Onset is the instance when the facial expression starts, apex is the point when the expression is at its peak and offset is when the expression fades away (start of offset is when the expression starts to fade, and the end of offset is when the expression completely fades out). Similarly, onset time is defined as the time taken from start to the peak, apex time is defined as the complete time at the peak and offset time is defined as the total time from a peak to the stop. Pantic and Patras have reported successful recognition of facial AUs and their temporal segments [2]. By doing so, they have been able to recognize a much larger range of expressions. Another very important type of expression classification is posed and spontaneous . Posed expressions are the artificial expressions that a subject will produce when he or she is requested to do so. This is commonly the case when the subject is under normal test condition or under observation in a laboratory. In contrast, natural expressions are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The environment, economy and even quality of human life have been greatly affected. This has created a lack of trust between the inhabitants and the oil companies, and even with the Nigerian government. A bonus also could be used as a reward for accomplishing specific goals set by the company, or for devotion to the company. However Performance related pay methods has broaden up into different topics, Individual performance pay and group performance pay being the most common methods. This essay will therefore discuss not only just identifying both distribution methods, but its relationship between one and another. Also, preferred ideals which ... In conclusion, prosocial bonuses can have a causal impact on employee satisfaction and performance, and a greater organizational impact which benefits all (Anik et al 2013). For and against distribution of bonuses based on self performance basis Advantages and disadvantages of distributing bonuses to individuals are broad, but just basing on statistics won t reveal the sustainability of performances from employees in the long run. Firstly, organisations such as the food industry tend to reward their individuals PRP, Performance related Pay, especially to roles such as sales and marketing (Wilkinson 2015). By giving bonuses for individuals unlocks a counterproductive spectrum inside the employee, hence making the workplace to a much more competitive environment. However after further research done by Journal of Business Research , it concludes with an opposite result. Distributing bonuses in Groups has a higher chance to product more cooperative, team work mindset imbedded into their employees compared to individual performances (Wilkinson 2015). Should every organisation change the way of distributing bonuses? No, Performance related pay plans are essentially ubiquitous, but they come with a price. Organisations (e.g. Motorola) ended up spending millions of dollars in PRP plans, and the outcome viewed like investment is increasing. With the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Kittredge A Case Of Witchcraft Summary In the article, A Case of Witchcraft by G. L. Kittredge, the main issue is that a majority of men and women were accused of witchcraft; which led to an excessive amount of torture and executions. Kittredge argues that with large bulks of documents and recordings of witch trials lost, we are unable to comprehend the prosecutions unless we have a better grasp of the mindset that many people had during that time. George Lyman Kittredge is an outstanding professor and English literature scholar from Harvard University. Additionally, he has experienced a great number of historical commodities, as well as becoming one of the most influential American literary critics of the early 20th century. Whether the accused persons were ever brought to trial we do not know, but it is clear that Ridgeway had these documents prepared for eventual use at the assizes (Kittridge, 1917, 6). Kittredge makes opinions based off the readings and instances to comprehend what was going on at the time and build a better argument. There are a copious amount of strengths in Kittredges article. First of all, one of the strengths would be that he utilizes strong vocabulary and sentences that increases the impact of his argument. This allows readers to understand his view so that he can more freely express his opinions, for example when he states that, The precise meaning of this railing speech escapes me, but I fancy it was equivalent to calling John a scatter brained fool. The phrase reminds one, though perhaps whimsically, of Pandar s contemptuous Yea, hazelwood! in Chaucer s Troilus. We may also adduce, tentatively, the common saying Your wits are gone wool gathering (Kittredge, 1917, 8). He constantly helps inform the readers by writing his thoughts, assisting them to conceive his ideas as well as using strong words to guide the readers in what he is trying to say. • 23. Pickens Plan Over the past century, the United States has created an enormous vehicle transportation infrastructure solely based on one energy source, which is oil. Successful implementation of the Pickens Plan must involve two major shifts when it comes to the U.S. energy consumption: replacing natural gas with wind power as a significant source of electricity generation and replacing oil with natural gas as far as transportation is concerned. If T. Boone Pickens Plan were to be successfully implemented, the global price of oil would decrease because the plan itself would significantly decrease the demand for oil. Therefore, when the demand drops, the price will go down as well. Pickens plan would reduce demand for oil in two different ways. First, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a tariff on oil comes an incentive for people to reduce their use of oil and it makes the U.S. much more independent. The domestic oil industry, would highly support this because it protects our home country s producers from the competition of cheap OPEC oil imports. Producers of renewable energy sources would support the tariff because a high oil price makes alternatives to oil more attractive. Particularly, it offers a powerful reason to bring manufacturing back to North America. As shown on the graphs that I have constructed, a tariff though it may result in some dead weight losses, it nonetheless provides the incentive to reduce oil consumption and spending in this country and it also provides tax revenue. When it comes to the positive externality graph based on the emphasis the Pickens Plan places on natural gas in America, one can see the benefits the plan provides for the U.S, economy as a whole. Yes, one can make the argument that there is simply no demand for such a change at all whatsoever, however, assuming there were subsidies implemented for the Pickens Plan, we see demand shift to the right, thus conveying that there will be demand if a good incentive is provided to the U.S. consumers. It would be plausible for the U.S. to cut off spending billions of dollars to foreign countries and spend its money and focus to move vehicles away from oil, and rely on renewable energies such as solar, wind, biofuels, which would in effect, create jobs here in the United States. This would be a better alternative than having the United States spend huge amounts of money for oil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Survival Of Man Depends On The Early Construction Of... Introduction The survival of man depends on the early construction of an ultraintelligent machine (Good, 1965). As early as the 1960s renowned scientists such as Good and Neumann theorized of an intelligence explosion, now known as the technology singularity, resulting from intelligent machines designing their next generation without human intervention. This idea of artificial intelligence (AI) has grown immensely and is a common topic amongst scholars, scientists, and theorists in the mathematic and scientific world. The key idea underlying the impending Singularity is that the pace of change of our human created technology is accelerating and its powers are expanding at an exponential pace. Exponential growth is deceptive. It starts out almost imperceptibly and then explodes with unexpected fury unexpected, that is, if one does not take care to follow its trajectory (Kurzweil, 8, 2005). Ray Kurzweil a scientist, inventor, author, and current director of engineering at Google is the leading theorist of the Singularity. So what is the singularity you ask? Most simply put Kurzweil defines it as, a future period during which the pace of technological change will be so rapid, its impact so deep, that human life will be irreversibly transformed (Kurzweil, 2005, 7). Currently we are in the early stages of the transition. The acceleration of the paradigm shift (the rate at which we change fundamental technical approached) as well as the exponential growth of ... • 31. NER Case Study As I mentioned earlier, mutations in your NER or more specifically your GG NER is responsible for genetics diseases such as XP. This disease is mostly linked with the inability to repair cells that contain photoproducts in your DNA that is initiated by UV light. These photoproducts include the (5 5) and (6 6) cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) and the (6 4) pyrimidine pyrimidinone dimers (PDs) that can involve T and C pyrimidines [7]. As these DNA are not repaired due to the lack of NER proteins, a mutation will occur which will substitute a Cytosine base to a Thymine base, it is most common when there are two Cytosine bases next to each other where it will go from CC to TT. This is very commonly found in protein p53. Patients with XP C ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patients with XP V will have different, more mild symptoms compared to other XP patients, as they can still remove the damaged DNA. There are no chromosomal abnormalities present in XP unlike Down s syndrome. Chromosome abnormalities is associated with defective DNA repair. Irradiation of normal and XP cells by UV light induces chromatid and chromosome aberrations, and one study indicates that more chromatid aberrations are found in XP cells than in normal cells 24 hr after irradiation [11, 12]. As Sasaki et al. [12, 13] showed, XP lymphocytes were more prone to growth delay and chromosome aberration production of 4 nitroquinoline 1 oxide (4NQO) but in XP cells, the 4NQO reparation is defective. As XP is autosomal recessive, only carriers with both recessive allele will show symptoms of the disease. Studies of DNA repair in XP heterozygotes have revealed that heterozygous cells show the same levels of DNA repair as normal cells. There are currently no cures for XP, the only solution is consistent UV radiation protection which can significantly decrease the amount of skin lesions or cancer. Keratosis can be treated with cryotherapy or fluorouracil. It hasn t been attempted but according to Halpern et al. [14], theoretically by inserting functional endonuclease genes into every cell in the body using the gene editing tool CRISPR, it might be able to cure XP and allow NER to function normally.
