Toward A Recovery Of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who
published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals,
newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were
studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in
which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors
discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about
another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to
bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural
handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history. To achieve this
goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub sections. In the first
section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century agricultural history:
population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new knowledge, and farming s
influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth century farming handbooks
in connection with the important events described in the first section. I end my paper with a third
section that offers research questions that could be answered in

The And Its Effects On Society And The Corporate Environment
The need to punish undesirable behavior dates back to the earliest settlements and societies of
humankind (Meehan, 2010). By analyzing societal reasons for punishment, and relating them to the
corporate environment, the utility of punishment can be determined. One common reason in
society for punishment is revenge (Wood, 2003). In society, revenge could be construed as an
extension of the eye for an eye philosophy, which arguably has very little utility in both society
and the corporate environment (Wood, 2003). However, in the industrial environment, if there was
an accident that caused extensive damage to equipment, insurance should cover the cost. Revenge
would be pointless in the corporate environment (Wood, 2003). Another reason society has to
punish is for the protection of society. There are many reasons a person can prove themselves to
be a danger to society, and with government regulations for various industries, a case can be made
for employee misconduct to warrant a need to protect society, but those instances can be few and
far between, relatively speaking (Wood, 2003). An example of society punishing someone to
protect society would be in the case of murder. A murderer walking free could be detrimental to the
safety of citizens, so punishment becomes a method to protect society from the murderer. Likewise,
in the workplace, a person who willfully makes reckless decisions may also warrant punishment.
For example, substance abuse while operating

The Four Pillars Of Sms
Title: The Four Pillars of SMS
When thinking of pillars you want to think of support and strength, something that will support a
structure that is built up on it. Any structure needs support to be sound and viable for years to
come, and that is exactly what the four Pillars of SMS does for the overall safety effort in any
organization. The four pillars are built around the most important aspects to ensure the proper
operation of any organization so that safety is the main concern of all. If one of those pillars isn t
properly supported, the entire SMS will fail. The four pillars work best when they complement
each other throughout their life span, they work together and depend on each other in order to
make each pillar stonger and more durable. Figure 1 Four SMS Components
Each of the four pillars plays a vital role in the overall strength and support of the Safety
Management System, which having its own specific role, and in the end all four support and
depend on each other. If one of those pillars isn t supported by the others, the entire Safety
Management System can fail, and more importantly it can fail those that are dependent on it while
they are in a working environment. The goal of a SMS (Safety Management System) is the
proper and effective management of Safety within an organization, especially the world of
Aviation, but if applied correctly, it can be utilized and adapted by any business or organization to
work for them as well. Each Pillar

Paleolithic Human Evolution
Evolution; not only something A little known scientist with name of Charles
Darwin created to get famous. From the evolution of humans to how humans
evolved is a long process, millions of years to be more precise. Our evolving
includes many things many people probably don t consider to be evolution of
humans. For instance, how we learned to live in harsh or un habitable
environments and made them livable, to making tools with stone and sticks
from there surroundings. During the Paleolithic Era Humans of that time
gained food mainly by foraging which in other words is by collecting plant
products, trapping and catching small animals even birds. Hunting larger

humans who developed and evolved during this time 2 million years ago
were called homo erectus, or another name for upright human. They evolved
in east Africa, and they also made tools that specialized in various tasks,
those tools included handheld axes cleavers, even scrapers. The homo
erectus lived in larger groups so they could cooperate in hunting and
gathering even food preparation. It was also found later by archeologist that
the shape of the homo erectus Larynx suggest that people of this specific
species were able to make wider range of sounds than were earlier
hominids, so they relied more on vocal sounds than gestures to
communicate ideas to one another.
The Earlier humans most successful venture however had to how they

as temperatures rose. They made their way into Central Africa or the great
plains then farther north into Northern Africa eventually moving north west
into Asia as early as 1.8 million years ago. They even reached as far as

Changes Of Pregnancy During Pregnancy
The changes in the hematologic system and in haemostasis during pregnancy are important for
maternal and foetal homoeostasis. The dramatic changes of pregnancy increase the demands of
nutrient intake to support the mother and foetus. Iron is an essential nutrient required during
pregnancy because it is required to create new red blood cells during pregnancythat is essential to
synthesise haemoglobin so that oxygen can be transported between the mother and foetus. During
pregnancy, the volumes of both blood and plasma increase to tolerate the demands of the uterus
enlarging. Also, the hypertrophied vascular system increases to maintain systemic blood pressure.
Furthermore, during delivery, a mother can be expected to lose large volumes of blood and
adequate ironstores help the mother to tolerate blood loss. Moreover, red blood cellvolume needs to
increase to allow adequate availability of oxygen to the foetus. Increased RBC volume has to
occur to support the expanding uteroplacental circulation, which ensures the foetus receives the
essential amounts of nutrients during gestation. Iron stores in nonpregnant women are
commonly low because of the loss of menstrual blood which 1 mL blood loss is equal to the loss
of the element iron 0.5mg. In total, the typical Fe loss during menses loss is between 12 to
15mg. The typical values for Iron intake by women is between 12 to 18mg/day. However, in the
UK, the Reference Nutrient intake for women between the ages of 19 50 years is

Women s Degradation By Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Women s degradation is in man s idea of his sexual rights. Our religion, laws and customs are all
founded on the belief that woman was made for man (Stanton) Believed to be one of the greatest
and most influential feminists of not only her generation, but of all time, Elizabeth Cady Stanton
paved the way for women and their rights in a time when they had none. Elizabeth, was one of the
first feminist theorists in America and through her beliefs that women deserve equality and equal
rights, she paved the way for the future of women and her effect on America is still felt today.
Elizabeth s first major fight within the world of feminism was after the Civil War had ended, and
slavery had been abolished. She joined with Fredrick Douglas, Susan B. Antony, and many other
influential women of the time, to create the American Equal Suffrage Association. This group was
created to not only secure the voting rights of American women but also the voting right for any
freed slave. However, once the bill that had been created to ratify the fifteenth amendment came to
the senate floor, it was discovered that although the bill included rights for colored men to vote, it
excluded the word sex , therefore it did not give women the right to vote. The women s movement
of the American Equal Suffrage Association was outraged by the injustice done and they went on to
continue the fight for equality without Fredrick Douglas. Having separated themselves from

Visual Qualitative Research Paper
According to Shannon, (2013) qualitative research is guided by philosophical and personal
assumptions as well as informational and theoretical frameworks that enlighten the research and
writing processes. The goal is to understand human experiences from the perspective of those who
experience them, methods are characterized by use of inductive logic, subjectivity, lack of reliance
on statistical analysis and dependence on personal interviews or other less structured methods of
data collection. For this reason, a visual qualitative method of inquiry known as photovoice will be
used to examine women s social service needs in relation to domestic violence.
Domestic violence denotes acts of violence that occur between people who have, or have had, ...

Such problems impede their recovery and ability to regain control over their lives (Phillips Park,
2006). This results because domestic violence directly affects women s financial security in key
areas of life: debts, bills, accommodation, legal issues, health, transport, migration, employment,
social security and child support (Arney Scott, 2010). In this regard women need financial support
to bridge the financial gap so that they become self sufficient. In addition, Arney Scott (2010) state
that domestic violence is traumatizing and counselling services should be availed for social and
emotional support.
It is against the mentioned background of domestic violence that the author chose to use
photovoice as a visual and innovative method so as to assess women s social service needs.
Photovoice is a research and action method that, according to Wang (1999), enables individuals to
identify, represent and develop their community through a specific photographic technique. The
method allows researchers to access voices of silenced populations, thus shedding light to what has
been happening behind closed doors, and kept silent for women who have experienced domestic
violence (Wang Burris,

Reptiles Are Better Than Reptiles

man who never alters his opinion is like standing water and breeds reptiles of the mind William
Blake, I don t really like reptiles because of their scaly skin but others think differently. They are
both amazing animals and have great abilities to do things. Mammals do not give birth to their
youngs in an egg form on a surface area. Mammals also do not have scaly and dry skin like
reptiles. Mammals such as dogs are also different than reptiles such as bearded dragons because
they are warm blooded so they can stay in the cold and they also have hair and fur so they can
lose that anytime when they get hot. Many mammals just shiver in the cold such as dogs.
Reptiles do not give birth to their youngs right away. Also, reptiles are cold blooded and do not
need fur to survive cold places. Reptiles such as frogs can live in a rain forest and be fine but

Chaucer Essay
A person can almost wholly learn the history of the world though literature that has been written.
This is because the people and times have such a great influence on the writers and their work.
Authors did not simply grab ideas from the sky. These ideas came from their mind; they wrote
about what they knew. And what they knew is what surrounds them, whether it be war, peace, or a
time of transition. In the early centuries, religion ruled the land and people. The first rulers came
about from the idea that God or some other Supreme Being from up above sent forth these people
to rule over the land. Literature from these times was highly influenced by religion. Almost every

A pilgrimage is a very sacred aspect of religion. It is an act of religious devotion, where a person or
groups of people travel to a holy site in honor of a religious figure (Quinn 76).
Almost every literary work ever produced at the time that Chaucer lived had religious undertones.
This was because of the simple fact that quot;the church was the fountain of literacy and sole
purveyor of what education there was during these centuries quot;(Vinson 8). The church was
the law. If someone went against what the Bible said, then you went against the government.
One might assume that if the Bible was the law, then the government would be holy, good, and
obey what it preaches, but Chaucer saw, from inside the palace walls, that this assumption was
wrong. Chaucer saw corruption and greed. He displayed this in his story for everyone to see. Of
all the pilgrims on the pilgrimage, a third of them were associated with the church in some way.
He uses these characters to show how corrupt the church had become. The monk in particular is
described as man who quot;didn t give a plucked hen for that text which says that hunters are not
holy men, and that a monk, when he is heedless of duty, is like a fish out of water quot;(Chaucer
11). Chaucer is saying that the monk would rather hunt than pray, which is odd for a man of the
cloth and especially for one on a religious

1960 Family Practice vs. Houston Northwest Medical Center First of all, according to introduction
to physical therapy, Physical therapy is a health profession whose primary purpose is the promotion
of optimal health and function. Physical therapy is a form of rehabilitation that physical therapists
use to help patients recover from an injury or a physical disability. Many people think that the
process of the Physical Therapyis the same in everywhere where a Physical Therapist performed

Computer Science And Telecommunications Equipment Essay
Introduction
We all have experienced the inconvenience that arises when we start connecting peripherals to a
computer, or when we connect other electronic devices, with a lot of cables that becomes difficult
to control. Then we start to think how easy it would be if all these connections were done using a
different way from the physical cables, like infrareds, radio or microwaves.
The companies of computer science and telecommunications needed to develop an opened, low cost
interface to make easier the communication between devices without using cables. This is the origin
of the technology which key name is Bluetooth . This is a fact nowadays, but now another problem
arises and is that there are a lot of standards and technologies, incompatible between them. What
we need now is a universal, valid device for the connection of all kinds of peripheral, and that
works in a transparent way for the user. This is Bluetooth.
Opposite to other current technologies, like infrared promoted by the IrDA (Infrared Data
Association) or DECT, Bluetooth has the support of the industry of computer science and
telecommunications, which in some way guarantees the success. Although there is a high number
of manufacturers who incorporate the interface IrDA in their telephones, included Ericsson,
Motorola and Nokia, the use turns out to be frustrating for many users who treat without success to
download information from their PC or PDAs to their mobile telephones, or vice versa. The

Hitting the pain away or letting a person be free is a way to summarize the endings of Destino

the short film. Letting her go by hitting the ball away is the equivalent of the part of the song
describing how to carry on after a person is gone. Strength is needed to move on with life and
strength is needed to hit a baseball far away. The baseball player symbolizes the man on the
pyramid, reaching for the head at the bottom of the pyramid. He is also seen reaching for the
clock, which can be a way of asking for more time with the face at the bottom. The

period the most interesting. It s bewildering how in such little time we went from working at home

The change from the Domestic system to the factory system was caused by the people s need of
material things faster. One reason this whole ordeal started was because of the enclosure acts. The

Historical Context In Sonnet 90 By Francesco Petracca
When studying literature, understanding the context of the piece gives us insight into not only the
historical aspect of the piece but also the significance of the piece in relation to the composer. By
studying these texts we are further able to understand and interpret both society at the time and the
context in which the composer found influence for the composition. To give a complete response to
the compositions, we must know and understand how the composers were influenced by their
historical context. We must also compare texts to other of the same nature to truly discover how the
context of the time influenced both the composers and their compositions.
Sonnet 90 , by Francesco Petrarca is one such piece that, when compared with another, gives such
insight. The first instance of historical influence can be found in the piece itself. The literary
technique used was one that was prevalent during the 1300 s, and had a strong influence on the
form used by Petrarch in his poetry. Sonnet 90 , just one of many written by Petrarch over a period
of forty years and our first example of context, is the sonnet itself. The sonnet contains two
sections, fourteen lines in total, and uses two rigid and distinct rhyme schemes. The octave (first
eight lines) incorporates the usual ABBA ABBA rhyme scheme, but the sestet (last six lines)
diverts from this scheme using CDE FCE, a variation of the more common CDC DCD. This
technique had been considered a very elegant and suitable form for

networking industry, the research has been passive to study the behavior on social media such as
self photography which has been a general issue of conversation in day to day life. One of the big
questioning is about what one s behavior on social media might express his or her personality traits.
Self esteem and narcissism have frequently been considered as crucial awareness in the growth of
selfie industry (Cosima, 2016; Mirshak, 2016). Individuals with narcissistic personality may be
more likely to post selfies on social media networking sites than others. Actually, a recent
research study revealed that the frequency of selfie postings on social networking sites was
notably correlated with self reported narcissism among adult males (Tomko, 2016). Besides,
since it is possible for individuals to discreetly pick and edit the posts, and even decide who is not
allowed to access their posts, individuals with low self esteem may be more likely

Architecture/housing
They found a roman house architecture in Pompeii during the excavation these ranged from
magnificent villas, modest house dwellings, workmen s houses to elegant residences, and the home
of merchants which were built around their workshops, and those who had their own vegetable
garden and plots of land for the use of farming.
The house is variable in size and has a rectangular plan. It is almost totally lacking windows on the

adorned in gold from head to toe was a sign of the very highest status and almost all the jewellery

Pale skin was ideal for wealthy women so they wore foundation made out of chalk, animal fat,

The Sixth Extinction Reflection
Summer Reading Reflection
I read The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert over this summer. It was a thoughtful book that
made me more aware of mother nature as well as the declining environmental health. Basically, the
author handled its large, weighty ideas by comparing the current environmental issues with the past
five major episodes of mass extinction. Nowadays, the world s undergoing a sixth mass extinction
period, with humans as the driving factor. In short, industrialization and globalization have ushered
in a new epoch in Earth s history. People are significantly altering the Earth s land, ocean,
atmosphere, and life in a way that no other creature has ever managed. A number of recent studies
shed light on the devastating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the book, the extinctions are occurring in all branches. A third of all reef building
corals are endangered. So are a third of all freshwater mollusks, a third of sharks and rays, a quarter
of all mammals, a fifth of all reptiles, and a sixth of all birds. Human activities have compromised
the oceans, the original source of life and home still to much of the earth s plant and animal life.
Logging, converting forestland to other uses, and human induced climate change were
exterminating whole species of trees as well as the plants and animals they sustained. It seems true
that Earth is a big place, but size isn t everything. The planet s richest ecosystems are in rapid
decline, forcing us to acknowledge that countless creatures worldwide are running out of room. We
should definitely do something to avert the first man made mass extinction.
Globalization is another big topic came to my mind after reading this book. There are certain
advantages that globalization bring us, such as faster access to technology, improved
communication and innovation. Apart from playing a key role in bringing people of various
backgrounds together, it has ushered a new era in the economic prosperity and has opened up vast
channels of development. However, globalization also created some areas of concern, and
prominent among these is the impact that it has had on the environment. In

My Personal Strengths
Essay A
Growing up, my parents frequently bombarded me with the celebrated saying: Eat all your food.
Some people in the world do not have any . As a kid, I always shrugged this off as just another
instance of parents exuding typical parental behavior. Yet as I got older, I came to learn how my
parents sayings proved not merely proverbs, but in fact their history.
Having lived and grown up in Vietnam, my parents experienced hardships atypical to the average
American family; food, funds, and fear from their government. They found food a scarcity, and
placing a meal on the table came as an effortful task, so my parents resorted to getting jobs at a
young age. Difficulties from the Vietnamese government during the war also contributed to their
endless struggles. For an example, my dad, upon my grandfather s forced captivity from the
government, became the man of the house, a home with about 500 square feet, for a family of
ten. He took care of the entire family at the age of ten years old. Coupled with all the hardships of
surviving, such factors resulted in an arduous life for my mother and father. Due to their personal
life burdens, they made raising me a priority, thus instilling in me a determination for success and
wholesome traits in my personal character.
In order to guarantee a future filled with great accomplishments, my parents emphasized the
herculean importance of education. At a young age, my parental unit enrolled me in head start,
engaged me in piano

All Men Are Created Equal Research Paper
Culture and ethnic groups have many strict values and principles when it comes to war. Most ethnic
groups tend to focus on themselves rather than taking into account the international issues that are
occurring. With the advancement of society, these groups often stand by their morals instead of
trying to engage in new ones and accepting the worldwide conflicts. More often than not, ethnic
groups are discriminated against even after the rise of the concept All men are created equal (The
Declaration of Independence). Yet, this idea is neglected especially in regards to social status and
race. These people have different intentions and repeatedly are being encouraged to blend into
American society and leave their values behind. In the past, equality and individual rights were
portrayed in an extremely different matter which impacted people s views on freedom today.
In today s generation, converging viewpoints make it difficult for an individual to speak their own
mind without prejudice. Politics have a huge range of diverse opinions; however, international
affairs need to be decided by a nation as a whole. In the past, politics led to rivalry between the
north and the south because of distinct aspects of slavery and land disputes. Constitutional

say that American Idiot is different from most musicals, as the storyline is developed around a hit

Additionally, such harmonies can be experienced throughout the show by the entire cast.
Particularly in the song, Jesus of Suburbia. In addition to the melodious singing that is heard
throughout the musical, the dancing observed is also well performed. After all a musical is not a
musical without dancing. The movements made by the cast in each song are well executed as the
cast puts their full effort into each diverse movement. The dancing observed follows many diverse
styles such as, punk rock style jumping, the slow gracefulness of contemporary movements, and
Arial dancing. In addition, the music performed is by a live band that encompasses many different
instruments such as guitar, drums, violin, and cello. Thus, adding to the different dynamics

The Women At The Tomb
The Women at the Tomb. (Lk. 24: 1 12) The Lucan account of the resurrection of Christ began
with the pericope of the Women at the Tomb This is the first of three resurrection stories that
highlight the resurrection of Christ In the first, two angels appear to the women telling the good
news of a living Christ (Luke 24:1 12) In the second is Jesushimself who delivers the message of
the resurrection to the two disciples who walk to Emmaus (24:13 35) And in the third periscope,
Jesus appears to the eleven disciples in Jerusalem (24:36 49) This chapter and the book ends
with the story of the ascension to heaven (24:50 53) This latter serves as epilogue and
connection to the book of Acts of the apostles, which is also written by the same author. Luke s
style suggests that he used various sources to write this pericope. The pericope occurs in all three
gospels and even in John . It is situated after the passion, and death of Jesus. The comparison
reveals the following common details which build the story: 1) the women go to the tomb to
prepare Jesus body. 2) They go to the tomb the first day of the week early in the morning. 3)
They found the empty tomb. 4) They also found the angels who gave a report. 5) It is followed
by the response of the women. 6) They ran to look for the apostles and 7) the apostles responded
to the women s report. Darrel Bock says that only 17 of Luke s 169 terms are in agreement with
Mark. Luke s account complements the other Gospels giving

Examples Of Ethical Issues In Health Care
There are many ethical issues that may arise in regards to a patient s healthcare. These major
issues as well as ways to manage them are as follows:
Privacy The protection of private patient information in the medical field is one of the most
important ethical problems that may rise in the field of healthcare. Discussions between a patient
and a doctor are resolutely private and access to them is strictly checked. An ethics group needs to
make sure that its patients medical records are protected.

My Father Is A Second Generation
As anyone in America can relate, heritage and where we come from can construct our
personality, build our demeanor, and in some cases, determines who we are as people. It often
amazes me when I step foot into a class room, or go into a local bar, even walk down the street
and see how many different faces there are. In some aspect, when I look close enough, I can see
dead people. Not dead as in walking zombies, but a glimpse of the past ancestors that helped mold
these individuals into the people standing before me. With that in mind, when I look the mirror I
can see who came before me and through past stories I can feel the struggles that Italians felt as
they crossed the ocean to become Americans.
My father is a second generation Sicilian who grew up in East Lynn, and my mother is a second
generation Northern Italian, who grew up in West Lynn. One of the stories I often hear is how the
Italians and the Sicilians never really got along, and frequently butt heads. Naturally it was very
Romeo and Juliet like that they would end up together. When they become husband and wife my
mother had gone to the jewelers and had this pepper like charm created. This amulate is known as
the Italian Horn, or Cornicello . Although it is more known today, this charm was hard to come by
and not well known outside the Italian culture, and it helped bind the two families together as one.

Quoted in the Harvard Business Review
In 1989, Whirlpool Corporation (Whirlpool) embarked on an ambitious global expansion with the
objective of becoming the world market leader in home appliances. Beginning with the purchase of
a majority stake in an appliance company owned by Philips, the Dutch electronics firm, Whirlpool
purchased a majority stake in an Indian firm, established four joint ventures in China, and made

critical that firms focus on cost reduction, productive efficiency, and product quality. Product
innovation was also critical, although few major innovations had occurred in recent years. The
apppliance firms segmented their products according to different consumers needs, and each strived
to achieve greater economies of scale. Still, by the end of the 1990s, the competitive landscape
remained unattractive. Profit margins continued to decline for most firms. Many analysts believed
that the market for appliances was saturated and that there would be little increase in growth rates.
This saturation had left the distributors focusing primarily on replacement purchases and purchases

Comparison Between Lift And Stack
At first glance, these three photographs are easily understood, it seems to be a village
rebuilding after a natural disaster or possibly just a normal day of work. However, there is so
much more to see. For example, the five men in red in the photograph on the far left Lift and
Stack, are dressed quite differently from the people around them. Which means to me that they
came to help from either a nearby village or, more likely in my opinion, a monastery from their
attire and shaved heads. These men seem to be loading firewood into the bed of a truck to bring
to less fortunate areas, with the help of village natives. The village in the background seems to be
in better shape than the other two photographs, which makes it even more likely that they are
moving the firewood to those who are in need.

The Five Stages Of Team Development

Why is teamwork essential?
Five Stages of Team Development
In 1965, a professor of psychology at the Ohio State University, Bruce Tuckman propose the five
stages of group development (Andersen Bolt, 2011, p. 161). Tuckman strongly suggest the norm
order for team to grow as one coordinated group.
Teamwork plays a fundamental role in providing a high quality service and achieving
accomplishments. Most teams usually go through five stages of development in order for them to
successfully meet their group s purpose. Here is the five stages of team development:
1.Forming stage is the first phase of team development. This is the period where the first
impression will initially form. The team begins as soon as they are created. The individuals will be
formerly introduced to their peers, they have to work with. Members would still be wary and
cautious of their surroundings. In addition, this is the stage where the members will determine, how
they will organize their approach in order to meet their desired goals.
2.Storming stage is the second phase of team development. This is when the conflict between the

The Pros And Cons Of Pedophiles
There are very few things that people agree on universally, however one of them is their attitude
toward pedophiles. No other type of person elicits the same kind of reaction as those who prey
on arguably our most vulnerable population. Pedophiles alone out of other sex offenders drive
intense fear and anger into the public, so much so that they are the reason for Megan s Law
requiring sex offenders to register as such since 1994. More recently, the enactment of an
International Megan s Law that was voted on last year requires for all sex offenders to get their
status added to their passports. The only issue with all of this is being a pedophile isn t a sex
crime. Most people consider pedophiles to be anyone who has committed a sex offense against a
child and that all pedophiles will commit this offense. In both cases that is, at best, a half truth.
The DSM 5, which is a tool that outlines the diagnostic criteria for a given disorder, defines
pedophilic disorder as, a paraphilia involving intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and
fantasies about prepubescent children that have either been acted upon or which cause the person
with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty. With the latter half of this definition, we
begin to open up to the idea that there are those who have sexual interests in children who have had
no form of inappropriate contact with a child, but rather just have their daily life affected by the

interest dates, call provisions, conversion privileges, restrictions imposed by creditors, and assets

Charlie Chaplin s Modern Times
When the era of silent films was almost finished, Charlie Chaplin completed his last silent movie,
called Modern Times . The title of the movie itself gives a hint about the changes that human kind
would be facing in the future. While watching the movie, the audience is inundated with the ideas
of dehumanization of humans in the factories, the Fordism ideology, the struggle to earn bread,

Charlie Chaplin has blended right amount of humor to the social drama. Just because of its

masterpiece, is a political and social commentary about the thriving American industry at the
expense of its workers and the social gap between the rich and the poor.
The opening sequence of Modern Times is humorous and satirical enough to hook up the audience
with the theme of the movie and to alert the audience about the results of exaggerated
industrialization. In the first sequence, the scenes of a herd of ships and the workers heading for

  • 2. Toward A Recovery Of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub sections. In the first section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century agricultural history: population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new knowledge, and farming s influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth century farming handbooks in connection with the important events described in the first section. I end my paper with a third section that offers research questions that could be answered in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The And Its Effects On Society And The Corporate Environment The need to punish undesirable behavior dates back to the earliest settlements and societies of humankind (Meehan, 2010). By analyzing societal reasons for punishment, and relating them to the corporate environment, the utility of punishment can be determined. One common reason in society for punishment is revenge (Wood, 2003). In society, revenge could be construed as an extension of the eye for an eye philosophy, which arguably has very little utility in both society and the corporate environment (Wood, 2003). However, in the industrial environment, if there was an accident that caused extensive damage to equipment, insurance should cover the cost. Revenge would be pointless in the corporate environment (Wood, 2003). Another reason society has to punish is for the protection of society. There are many reasons a person can prove themselves to be a danger to society, and with government regulations for various industries, a case can be made for employee misconduct to warrant a need to protect society, but those instances can be few and far between, relatively speaking (Wood, 2003). An example of society punishing someone to protect society would be in the case of murder. A murderer walking free could be detrimental to the safety of citizens, so punishment becomes a method to protect society from the murderer. Likewise, in the workplace, a person who willfully makes reckless decisions may also warrant punishment. For example, substance abuse while operating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Four Pillars Of Sms Title: The Four Pillars of SMS When thinking of pillars you want to think of support and strength, something that will support a structure that is built up on it. Any structure needs support to be sound and viable for years to come, and that is exactly what the four Pillars of SMS does for the overall safety effort in any organization. The four pillars are built around the most important aspects to ensure the proper operation of any organization so that safety is the main concern of all. If one of those pillars isn t properly supported, the entire SMS will fail. The four pillars work best when they complement each other throughout their life span, they work together and depend on each other in order to make each pillar stonger and more durable. Figure 1 Four SMS Components Each of the four pillars plays a vital role in the overall strength and support of the Safety Management System, which having its own specific role, and in the end all four support and depend on each other. If one of those pillars isn t supported by the others, the entire Safety Management System can fail, and more importantly it can fail those that are dependent on it while they are in a working environment. The goal of a SMS (Safety Management System) is the proper and effective management of Safety within an organization, especially the world of Aviation, but if applied correctly, it can be utilized and adapted by any business or organization to work for them as well. From the evolution of humans to how humans evolved is a long process, millions of years to be more precise. Our evolving includes many things many people probably don t consider to be evolution of humans. For instance, how we learned to live in harsh or un habitable environments and made them livable, to making tools with stone and sticks from there surroundings. These humans who developed and evolved during this time 2 million years ago were called homo erectus, or another name for upright human. They evolved in east Africa, and they also made tools that specialized in various tasks, those tools included handheld axes cleavers, even scrapers. The homo erectus lived in larger groups so they could cooperate in hunting and gathering even food preparation. It was also found later by archeologist that the shape of the homo erectus Larynx suggest that people of this specific species were able to make wider range of sounds than were earlier hominids, so they relied more on vocal sounds than gestures to communicate ideas to one another.

  • 8. Changes Of Pregnancy During Pregnancy The changes in the hematologic system and in haemostasis during pregnancy are important for maternal and foetal homoeostasis. The dramatic changes of pregnancy increase the demands of nutrient intake to support the mother and foetus. Iron is an essential nutrient required during pregnancy because it is required to create new red blood cells during pregnancythat is essential to synthesise haemoglobin so that oxygen can be transported between the mother and foetus. During pregnancy, the volumes of both blood and plasma increase to tolerate the demands of the uterus enlarging. Also, the hypertrophied vascular system increases to maintain systemic blood pressure. Furthermore, during delivery, a mother can be expected to lose large volumes of blood and adequate ironstores help the mother to tolerate blood loss. Moreover, red blood cellvolume needs to increase to allow adequate availability of oxygen to the foetus. Increased RBC volume has to occur to support the expanding uteroplacental circulation, which ensures the foetus receives the essential amounts of nutrients during gestation. Iron stores in nonpregnant women are commonly low because of the loss of menstrual blood which 1 mL blood loss is equal to the loss of the element iron 0.5mg. In total, the typical Fe loss during menses loss is between 12 to 15mg. The typical values for Iron intake by women is between 12 to 18mg/day. • 9. Women s Degradation By Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women s degradation is in man s idea of his sexual rights. Our religion, laws and customs are all founded on the belief that woman was made for man (Stanton) Believed to be one of the greatest and most influential feminists of not only her generation, but of all time, Elizabeth Cady Stanton paved the way for women and their rights in a time when they had none. Elizabeth, was one of the first feminist theorists in America and through her beliefs that women deserve equality and equal rights, she paved the way for the future of women and her effect on America is still felt today. Elizabeth s first major fight within the world of feminism was after the Civil War had ended, and slavery had been abolished. She joined with Fredrick Douglas, Susan B. Antony, and many other influential women of the time, to create the American Equal Suffrage Association. This group was created to not only secure the voting rights of American women but also the voting right for any freed slave. However, once the bill that had been created to ratify the fifteenth amendment came to the senate floor, it was discovered that although the bill included rights for colored men to vote, it excluded the word sex , therefore it did not give women the right to vote. The women s movement of the American Equal Suffrage Association was outraged by the injustice done and they went on to continue the fight for equality without Fredrick Douglas. Visual Qualitative Research Paper According to Shannon, (2013) qualitative research is guided by philosophical and personal assumptions as well as informational and theoretical frameworks that enlighten the research and writing processes. The goal is to understand human experiences from the perspective of those who experience them, methods are characterized by use of inductive logic, subjectivity, lack of reliance on statistical analysis and dependence on personal interviews or other less structured methods of data collection. For this reason, a visual qualitative method of inquiry known as photovoice will be used to examine women s social service needs in relation to domestic violence. Domestic violence denotes acts of violence that occur between people who have, or have had, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such problems impede their recovery and ability to regain control over their lives (Phillips Park, 2006). This results because domestic violence directly affects women s financial security in key areas of life: debts, bills, accommodation, legal issues, health, transport, migration, employment, social security and child support (Arney Scott, 2010). In this regard women need financial support to bridge the financial gap so that they become self sufficient. In addition, Arney Scott (2010) state that domestic violence is traumatizing and counselling services should be availed for social and emotional support. It is against the mentioned background of domestic violence that the author chose to use photovoice as a visual and innovative method so as to assess women s social service needs. Photovoice is a research and action method that, according to Wang (1999), enables individuals to identify, represent and develop their community through a specific photographic technique. The method allows researchers to access voices of silenced populations, thus shedding light to what has been happening behind closed doors, and kept silent for women who have experienced domestic violence (Wang Burris, ... • 11. Reptiles Are Better Than Reptiles Dogs are the only mammals that will actually stare and look into a human s eyes Jerry O Connell, I prefer mammals because they could be amazing companions and cuddle buddies. The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water and breeds reptiles of the mind William Blake, I don t really like reptiles because of their scaly skin but others think differently. • 14. Chaucer Essay A person can almost wholly learn the history of the world though literature that has been written. This is because the people and times have such a great influence on the writers and their work. Authors did not simply grab ideas from the sky. These ideas came from their mind; they wrote about what they knew. And what they knew is what surrounds them, whether it be war, peace, or a time of transition. In the early centuries, religion ruled the land and people. The first rulers came about from the idea that God or some other Supreme Being from up above sent forth these people to rule over the land. Literature from these times was highly influenced by religion. Almost every piece of work up until the 18th centurycontains some kind of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A pilgrimage is a very sacred aspect of religion. It is an act of religious devotion, where a person or groups of people travel to a holy site in honor of a religious figure (Quinn 76). Almost every literary work ever produced at the time that Chaucer lived had religious undertones. This was because of the simple fact that quot;the church was the fountain of literacy and sole purveyor of what education there was during these centuries quot;(Vinson 8). The church was the law. If someone went against what the Bible said, then you went against the government. One might assume that if the Bible was the law, then the government would be holy, good, and obey what it preaches, but Chaucer saw, from inside the palace walls, that this assumption was wrong. Chaucer saw corruption and greed. He displayed this in his story for everyone to see. Of all the pilgrims on the pilgrimage, a third of them were associated with the church in some way. He uses these characters to show how corrupt the church had become. The monk in particular is described as man who quot;didn t give a plucked hen for that text which says that hunters are not holy men, and that a monk, when he is heedless of duty, is like a fish out of water quot;(Chaucer 11). Then we start to think how easy it would be if all these connections were done using a different way from the physical cables, like infrareds, radio or microwaves. The companies of computer science and telecommunications needed to develop an opened, low cost interface to make easier the communication between devices without using cables. This is the origin of the technology which key name is Bluetooth . This is a fact nowadays, but now another problem arises and is that there are a lot of standards and technologies, incompatible between them. What we need now is a universal, valid device for the connection of all kinds of peripheral, and that works in a transparent way for the user. This is Bluetooth. Opposite to other current technologies, like infrared promoted by the IrDA (Infrared Data Association) or DECT, Bluetooth has the support of the industry of computer science and telecommunications, which in some way guarantees the success. • 23. Historical Context In Sonnet 90 By Francesco Petracca When studying literature, understanding the context of the piece gives us insight into not only the historical aspect of the piece but also the significance of the piece in relation to the composer. By studying these texts we are further able to understand and interpret both society at the time and the context in which the composer found influence for the composition. To give a complete response to the compositions, we must know and understand how the composers were influenced by their historical context. We must also compare texts to other of the same nature to truly discover how the context of the time influenced both the composers and their compositions. Sonnet 90 , by Francesco Petrarca is one such piece that, when compared with another, gives such insight. The first instance of historical influence can be found in the piece itself. The literary technique used was one that was prevalent during the 1300 s, and had a strong influence on the form used by Petrarch in his poetry. Sonnet 90 , just one of many written by Petrarch over a period of forty years and our first example of context, is the sonnet itself. The sonnet contains two sections, fourteen lines in total, and uses two rigid and distinct rhyme schemes. With that in mind, when I look the mirror I can see who came before me and through past stories I can feel the struggles that Italians felt as they crossed the ocean to become Americans. My father is a second generation Sicilian who grew up in East Lynn, and my mother is a second generation Northern Italian, who grew up in West Lynn. One of the stories I often hear is how the Italians and the Sicilians never really got along, and frequently butt heads. Naturally it was very Romeo and Juliet like that they would end up together. When they become husband and wife my mother had gone to the jewelers and had this pepper like charm created. This amulate is known as the Italian Horn, or Cornicello . Although it is more known today, this charm was hard to come by and not well known outside the Italian culture, and it helped bind the two families together as one. Every culture has very different ways of doing things, and although Sicily is part of Italy, the two cultures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

David Whitman, Whirlpool CEO, 1994 Quoted in the Harvard Business Review In 1989, Whirlpool Corporation (Whirlpool) embarked on an ambitious global expansion with the objective of becoming the world market leader in home appliances. Beginning with the purchase of a majority stake in an appliance company owned by Philips, the Dutch electronics firm, Whirlpool purchased a majority stake in an Indian firm, established four joint ventures in China, and made significant new investments in its Latin America operations. Product innovation was also critical, although few major innovations had occurred in recent years. The apppliance firms segmented their products according to different consumers needs, and each strived to achieve greater economies of scale. Still, by the end of the 1990s, the competitive landscape remained unattractive. Profit margins continued to decline for most firms. Many analysts believed that the market for appliances was saturated and that there would be little increase in growth rates. This saturation had left the distributors focusing primarily on replacement purchases and purchases for new housing developments. She currently works for the local hospital in her area, and would like to eventually be a manager of a division in the hospital. She also has a goal to go on to get her Master s Degree in Public Health. During our first call I was informed that she was nervous about her transfer credits. Deyonna had been going to school for a very long time, and wanted to ensure she transferred as many credits into her program as possible. • 36. Comparison Between Lift And Stack At first glance, these three photographs are easily understood, it seems to be a village rebuilding after a natural disaster or possibly just a normal day of work. However, there is so much more to see. For example, the five men in red in the photograph on the far left Lift and Stack, are dressed quite differently from the people around them. Which means to me that they came to help from either a nearby village or, more likely in my opinion, a monastery from their attire and shaved heads. These men seem to be loading firewood into the bed of a truck to bring to less fortunate areas, with the help of village natives. The village in the background seems to be in better shape than the other two photographs, which makes it even more likely that they are moving the firewood to those who are in need. Working Like Ants, the photograph on the far right, people, mostly men are taking supplies off of a ship. Using boards and thin logs as bridges over the water. Grinning from ear to ear truly carefree unlike the adults around them, a testament of childhood innocence. Any child, even at the worst of times can find light in the dark. This trait is lost as we grow, I believe the photographer wanted to catch true light on camera to share with the world. This opportunity are great instrument to learn and expand our experience and social circle. Initially it could be stressful, and time consuming, but if done well the result would be extremely rewarding, it is called teamwork. Insert teamwork definition Why is teamwork essential? Five Stages of Team Development In 1965, a professor of psychology at the Ohio State University, Bruce Tuckman propose the five stages of group development (Andersen Bolt, 2011, p. 161). • 39. The Pros And Cons Of Pedophiles There are very few things that people agree on universally, however one of them is their attitude toward pedophiles. No other type of person elicits the same kind of reaction as those who prey on arguably our most vulnerable population. Pedophiles alone out of other sex offenders drive intense fear and anger into the public, so much so that they are the reason for Megan s Law requiring sex offenders to register as such since 1994. More recently, the enactment of an International Megan s Law that was voted on last year requires for all sex offenders to get their status added to their passports. The only issue with all of this is being a pedophile isn t a sex crime. Most people consider pedophiles to be anyone who has committed a sex offense against a child and that all pedophiles will commit this offense. In both cases that is, at best, a half truth. The DSM 5, which is a tool that outlines the diagnostic criteria for a given disorder, defines pedophilic disorder as, a paraphilia involving intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about prepubescent children that have either been acted upon or which cause the person with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty. With the latter half of this definition, we begin to open up to the idea that there are those who have sexual interests in children who have had no form of inappropriate contact with a child, but rather just have their daily life affected by the feelings that they are having toward ... With the Supreme Court decision that declared that for a physician to maintain an addict on his or her customary dose is not in good faith medical practice, these clinics were all forced to close under threat of indictment (White W. • 42. Animal Farm Journal Entry Analysis Roughly a century after Napoleon s rule of Animal Farm, a young pig stumbled upon a dusty leather bound diary hidden away in the straw strewn loft of the ramshackle barn. The same barn which held those legendary meetings from long before. With a tentative trotter, the youngster filed through the delicate pages, unconvering a story which to that point had remained untold. The story of a raven from the days of old and his quest to lead his animal brethren to the religious truth unfolded before the pigs eyes the story of Moses. I am ahppy to see that my journey back to Animal Farm was not frivolous. Entry 5: This is a dark day. The pigs have gone too far. I was greatly pained when some of my most loyal followers came to me in anguish as they knew they were going to be executed by Napoleon and his dogs. All I could do was offer spiritual guidance to ensure that they found their way to Sugarcandy Mountain. • 44. Charlie Chaplin s Modern Times When the era of silent films was almost finished, Charlie Chaplin completed his last silent movie, called Modern Times . The title of the movie itself gives a hint about the changes that human kind would be facing in the future. While watching the movie, the audience is inundated with the ideas of dehumanization of humans in the factories, the Fordism ideology, the struggle to earn bread, and many more. Instead of conveying this powerful social message in harsh and serious tone, Charlie Chaplin has blended right amount of humor to the social drama. Just because of its satirical humor, Modern Times is still relevant after almost 70 years since its release and is applauded as the most accomplished work of Charlie Chaplin. Modern Times , an entertainment masterpiece, is a political and social commentary about the thriving American industry at the expense of its workers and the social gap between the rich and the poor. The opening sequence of Modern Times is humorous and satirical enough to hook up the audience with the theme of the movie and to alert the audience about the results of exaggerated industrialization. In the first sequence, the scenes of a herd of ships and the workers heading for the factory are collocated. Even though the scene seems to be humorous visually, it actually represents the current scenario of the working class people and the contemporary audience can easily relate the scene. The symbolism is particularly powerful when one considers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
