Harry S. Truman Is A Part Of The American Presidents Series
Harry S. Truman is a part of the American Presidents Series and is written by Robert Dallek with the
help of Arthur M. Schlesinger and Sean Wilentz. The biography details the life of Harry Truman, the
thirty third president of the United States. Truman was Franklin Delano Roosevelt s Vice President
and took office when Roosevelt died during the last few months of World War II. Truman was faced
with the difficult task of ending the war and caring for his country during the aftermath. Truman went
on to serve second turn in one of the most surprising elections in American history. Robert Dallek is a

Dallek used many different sources throughout his biography. He referenced secondary sources from
several biographies and articles about Truman, as well as primary sources such as Truman s
autobiography and memoirs, private records, and accounts from those who worked with Truman.
Dallek used subscripts each time he referenced another work to cite exactly where he got his
information, even down to the page number. This format made all of the information seem reliable,
and allowed the reader to trust everything that they read. The wide variety of types of sources allowed
the reader to see and understand Truman s life from several different perspectives. Dallek describes
each chapter of Truman s life in great detail. In Truman s early years, he live on his parent s farm in
Independence, Missouri. After serving in World War I, he began his political career when he became a
judge of Jackson County, Missouri. He served as a judge for eight years before running for Missouri
senator, an election that he won by a landslide. Because Truman was hardworking, along with the fact
that he was not too liberal and not too conservative, he caught the attention of President Roosevelt and
was chosen as Roosevelt s vice president during the final stages of World War II. Then, barely three
months later, Roosevelt died and Truman became president. Truman suddenly had

The Importance Of Music And Art Therapy
The research established that music and art therapy is a valid technique, and it can reduce depression
in the participants. Art therapy is a technique to arouse the central nervous system, and it produced
dopamine, which in turn, creates good feelings in an individual, in other words happiness. This study
was extremely simple, yet it show how other cultures value their elderly unlike Americans (Im Lee,
2014). At the Regent Care Center, the residents are bored out of their mind coloring the same boring
pages out of coloring books. This is one factor that I experienced, and we had so many residents
attend the art classes, my son and I provided. They were capable of using free will instead of being
told what to do. It made them content to see us, and the gratitude we received through the
conversations we engaged in with the residents. They made is feel good, and feeling on their part was
mutual on their part. Complications are part of aging, and severe health difficulties, deteriorating
purposeful capabilities, economic limitations, and loss of social position are a few of the possibly life
altering topics that elderly adults may confront (Flood Phillips, 2007). Psychological ups and downs
and lingering sickness are linked with older adulthood, and they may distress an individual s
capabilities. The social and psychological trials are owed to fluctuations in part to: minimal
interactions, losses, and housing situations. Age linked variations are unavoidable for example,

Compare And Contrast Beowulf And Bilbo
Does time change the way you see things and can you see your views evolving? On September 19th
2017, a paper due on what it means to be a hero, defined by heroistics qualities from characters from
the books Beowulf, the Knight s Tale, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Bilbo, the protagonist of
the Hobbit, has a handful of heroistic qualities to him, but do they compare to the qualities found back
on Spether 19th? Today, Bilbo will be compared to the heroistic qualities originally found in Beowulf,
Theseus, from the Knight s Tale, and Sir Gawain.
How does Beowulf s original qualities compared to Bilbo from the Hobbit? Beowulf s qualities were
limited to courage, strength, and confidence. At the beginning of the Hobbit, we see that Bilbo was not
a very courageous hobbit. His courage slowly developed throughout the book, as he learned what he
was capable of achieving. The strength he had was always inside him, but he wasn t sure how reach it.

leader of the group and the one who everyone looked up to. He was a clam figure from the beginning,
but lacked in assertiveness. You could always guarantee Bilbo to finish what he started, his
determination shined throughout the entire novel. The adventure Bilbo was apart of, made him into a

The API 20E is used for the identification of gram negative bacteria and specially of the family
Enterobacteriaceae. This system utilizes a plastic compartmentalized in 20 spaces. Those
compartments are a cupule and a small tube that contains a specific dehydrated substance. After you
inoculated each compartment with an unknown bacteria, a reaction will occur in 18 24hours. The
results were organized in a Reading Table and given a number based on the results. With this number
it is possible to identify the bacteria.

Explain The Key Features Of The Inquisitorial System
The adversary system is the legal system adopted by Australia, Britain, the United States, and New
Zealand. Where two advocates represent their parties positions before an impartial person or group of
people, usually a jury or judge, who attempt to determine the truth of the case.[ Adversarial System
Wikipedia ] The inquisitorial system is the legal system used in most nations in Europe, Africa, Asia,
and South America. A system of trial where the court is actively involved. While the two legal systems
are are different, they also have some of the same features.

In the adversary there are 8 advantages and disadvantages, The adversary system advantages are; the
judge is an independent and impartial party from the executive or legislative. Both parties are allowed
to present their own cases, and are treated as equals ensuring the basic right of individuals, and the
right to equal opportunity s are confirmed. Each party is also allowed to cross examine the other
parties evidence, to confirm the accuracy of the evidence. Accused persons are judged solely on the
evidence presented at the trial. This determines that evidence such as a past conviction, is
inadmissible. This advantage preserves the principle of treating a person as being innocent until
proven guilty. Equally, this protects the civil rights of the individual, as the adversary system is
structured to permit ten guilty men go free rather than convict one innocent man. Another advantage
that the adversary system has is that the accused has the right to be tried by their peers. The doctrine of
precedent ensures people are treated consistently, and justly. The last advantage is that all parties have
the right to appeal to the Appellate court. Consistently there are also eight disadvantages, that match
the advantages. Firstly, the judge is not completely independent as they are appointed by the
Executive. When individuals are left to present their own case the trial becomes slow,

Aristotle s Theory Of Falling
My thesis is twofold: Aristotle s empirical arguments supporting the view that the earth is a sphere are
not convincing ; however, his hybrid argument combining a priori and empirical claims based on his
theory of falling succeeds in displacing Pre Socratic Cosmology and empirically grounding the
creation cosmology of Plato s Timaeus.
Aristotle inherited a tradition of cosmologies espoused by the Presocratics beginning with Thales, The
Earth floats on water, which is in some way the source of all things (Kirk B13) . The tradition
continues with Anaximenes, The earth is flat and rides on air (B13) and reaches a zenith with
Parmenides, ...there is a furthest limit, it is perfected, like the bulk of a ball well rounded on every
side, equally balanced in every direction from the center (Fr. 8 32 49). These three quotes identify two
themes that Aristotle would face while developing his cosmogony: how does the earth maintain its
place in the universe and what is its shape.
Aristotle also labored under the imposing shadow of his teacher Plato who developed his cosmology
in the Timaeus, ...he should fashion the world as a single whole... And he gave it a shape appropriate
to the kind of thing it was... Hence he gave it a round shape, the form of a sphere... (Timaeus 33a b).
Plato identifies the correct shape of the earth but he does not argue for this conclusion. Aristotle will
have to ground this idea in empirical science not myth.
The first step for Aristotle in On the Heavens is

Societal Norms In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
In today s world there are many ideologies that women are set to follow but that are also easy to break
through. As society progresses, people have to adjust to new societal norms. The story, Boys and Girls
by Alice Munro is about an 11 year old girl who lives in a fox breeding farm, alongside her parents
and siblings. The whole point of breeding the foxes is to be able to kill them and later skin them but
the horses they own are killed in order to feed and bulk up the foxes. This is an everyday routine for
the little girl, who takes pride in helping out her father with outdoor chores. She takes it as a
compliment and blushes when her father introduces her as his hired man since it is something she
prefers doing over house work. She dreads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story, Boys and Girls states As soon as I was done I ran out of, trying to get out of earshot before
my mother thought of what she wanted me to do next (Munro 156). It shows a wide example of how
gender roles are strictly implied in this household and how the little girl tries to avoid it as much as
possible. The story follows between the lines between a woman being fragile and catering to men, and
men not breaking and providing for the family. The feminist theory widely connects to the story
because it gives an insight of the issue of the typical gender roles and what big of an impact it makes
when they are not followed. According to the article Gender Inequality in the Home, by authors Janell
Fetterolf and Lauren Rudman Despite women s increased presence and status in the workforce, there
is still a disparity in domestic labor that disadvantages women (Fetterolf 220). It proves a critical point
that women will always be set to gender role standards that they are expected to follow. The 11 year
old girl struggles with wanting to be out with her father but still having to take responsibility for the
tasks that are imposed and meant for her. According to the story, the girl s father introduced her as his,
new hired man. I turned away and raked furiously, red in the face with pleasure (Munro 155). It seems
as though she takes much pride in being seen as masculine figure, rather than being portrayed in the
norm of a fragile good girl who is supposed to be at home doing housework. In the article, Feminism
as Critique in a Neoliberal Age it states, This imputed gender subtext proved to be increasingly
counterfactual with only a very small proportion of the population conforming to a normative dualistic
model of separate masculine and feminine

Kepler s Laws Of Planetary Motion
Kepler s Laws Johannes Kepler formulated the Three Laws of Planetary Motion. The first is the Law
of Orbits, stating that all planets move in elliptical orbits with the sun at one focus. The second law is
the Law of Areas. This is the idea that a line that connects the planet to the sun sweeps out equal areas
in the plane of the planet s orbit in equal time intervals. Last is the Law of Periods which states that
the square of the period of any planet is proportional to the cube of the semi major axis of its orbit. It
is simple to just accept the laws and memorize them, but take it a step further. What are the
explanations to these laws and how did Kepler come to those conclusions? The results that Kepler
published actually began with Tycho Brahe. Brahe was interested in reforming astronomy, and wanted
to prove his idea that planets circle the sun which then move around the stationary earth. He made
several observations with advanced instruments that still to this day have been proven by calculations
done with modern computers to be quite accurate. All of Brahe s observations were very useful and
interesting to Kepler who became Brahe s assistant in 1600. Some propose that Brahe only continued
making observations because he was unsure of what to do with them or how to apply them, so it was
left up to assistants such as Johannes Kepler to put the information to use (J.V. Field). Kepler had been
engaging in finding an orbit of Mars, and Brahe s observations

Mutual Fund And Mutual Funds Essay
INTRODUCTION
The growth of the Mutual Funds is very slow and it took really long years to evolve the modern day
Mutual Funds. Mutual Funds emerged for the first time in Netherlands in the 18th century and then
got introduced to Switzerland, Scotland and then to United States in the 19th century. The main
objective behind Mutual Fund investments is to deliver a form of diversified investment solution.
Later, the investors had a wide choices of diversified investment portfolio through the Mutual Funds.
In India, the Mutual Fund concept emerged in 1960. The first open ended Mutual Fund was created as
public sector enterprise with the establishment of Unit Trust of India in 1964 under the Central
Legislation, i.e., Unit Trust of India Act 1963.
EVOLUTION OF MUTUAL FUND IN INDIA

Secure attachment is the most common type of attachment out of the three, originally presented by

As my friend inches towards his 40s, he is experiencing the social task of generativity versus
stagnation, which occurs during middle adulthood. While some adults find their life s work and assist
in the development of others through mentoring, volunteering, or beginning a family, some adults
struggle with having a minimal connection with others and a small interest in productivity and self
improvement. This fraction of life is considered stagnation according to Erikson, lasting from people s
40s to their mid 60s. The desire for a new vehicle or relinquishing his marriage is outbursts from his
stagnation period during his middle adult life.
11. Erikson noted that people within their late adulthood stage of life cogitate and evaluate their lives,
deeming their lives as satisfactory or a failure. This stage is called integrity versus despair because
those who feel proud of their achievements have a sense of integrity, reflecting with minimum regrets.
This is different than those who feel they are unsuccessful at this stage because they consider their life
to have been wasted, focusing on should have , could have , and would have been, causing depression.

No, I m sorry but we re currently not accepting any new members for the wrestling team. A wave of
anger flushed through my body as I rolled my eyes and walked away. I was angry because I knew then
that my high school coach lied in front of my face, when only ten minutes before I arrived the coach
gave one of my male friends an application to join the wrestling co ed team. However, I was not
surprised by the outcome. Wrestling is predominantly a male sport, so not many women took forward
to joining the wrestling team. Society expects females and male to adopt and fulfil in certain gender
roles and expectations. Males are expected to be strong and athletic while women are expected to be
weak, passive, and nurturers. At an early age children adopt a sense of what is gender appropriate of
them to engage in, whether in a sport or activity. Their theory of what is gender appropriate is
followed throughout their childhood to when they are matured. Based off the theory of what is
appropriate of a female to engage in, males tend to reject the idea of women being capable of doing
activities the opposite gender could do. It was stereotypical of the coach to deny my request to join the

very generous with his money, giving it away in the effort to protect special landscapes. Furthermore
his money, family, and donations helped him reached very high environmental positions. The
Rockefeller Family, the Power Elite, and Noblesse Oblige, can help explain some Laurances life in

the world, and are forever known for their wealth. Rockefellers wealth partially allowed him to make
some of his greatest contributions to the environmental society. In order to explain Rockefeller s
immense wealth, one must go backwards to his grandfather, John Davison Rockefeller Sr. John

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Ugly Tourist
Rhetorical Analysis of The Ugly Tourist Daily, hundreds of thousands of people are traveling, whether
it s by plane, car, bus, boat, or foot, people are traveling to new locations and being immersed in
different cultures. Many fail to realize how ignorant of a tourist they are. Kincaid explains that tourists
are morally ugly and use other, less fortunate people, for their own amusement. She tries to enlighten
those who are privileged to be more considerate when they are visiting new places. Published author
Jamaica Kincaid wrote The Ugly Tourist, originally written in her book, A Small Place, where she tries
to convince readers that tourists are, a piece of rubbish (207). Kincaid s attempt to convey to the
audience that tourists are ignorant and morally ugly is partially successful, due to her satisfactory
emotional appeal, yet inability to produce a less angry tone, along with minimal logical appeal. To
begin, Kincaid uses emotional appeal throughout the essay to further her argument. She begins by
painting the audience a picture of themselves in their everyday life. Walking with an everyday crowd,
they begin to realize how alone you feel in this crowd, how awful it is to go unnoticed, how awful it is
to go unloved (Kincaid 206). Kincaid starts off her piece by making her audience feel isolated and
alone, setting the tone for the rest of the piece. She makes the everyday audience, who can afford to
escape their everyday life, feel unappreciative of their situation. This furthers her argument by making
the audience feel poorly about things they may take for granted, that many natives from poorer
countries cannot afford. They may have the luxury to travel outside of their bubble, while natives do
not have the same luxury as them. In addition, Kincaid makes the reader feel embarrassed. Kincaid
restates, An ugly thing, that is what you are when you become a tourist, an ugly, empty thing, a stupid
thing, a piece of rubbish pausing here and there... behind their closed doors they laugh at your
strangeness (207). She gives the reader the idea that the natives are mocking tourists because they are
not familiar with their surroundings. Where people should feel the joy of exploring new places,

II. BODY
A. Main Point # 1: If you watch The Office, you can improve your physical health, mental health, and
even extend your life.
1. Information (sub point): While watching The Office, you re bound to laugh at some point during the

the many times Michael says That s what she said . But what you may not know is that by laughing
you re actually helping you re immune system out. A two month study done in Taiwan gathered sixty
seven seventh graders and split them up into two groups. (Chang, 2013). One group read and did
homework during study hall while the other group did a forty five minute intervention. In this
intervention, the students were first relaxed by breathing exercises, and then they were, asked to
release bottled up emotions like saying they were afraid or cold (Chang, 2013). After they expressed
their emotions, they laughed for two to three minutes. It was seen that after this experiment, the
experimental group had lowered their levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, while the control group s
cortisol levels had stayed the same. (Chang, 2013). This is wonderful because according to the Mayo
Clinic Staff (2011), the overexposure to cortisol can lead to weight gain, digestive problems, heart

Intensive Individual and Group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
This article highlights the experience of a 46 year old woman with obsessive compulsive disorder, and
how adding cognitive behavioral therapy to her treatment benefits her. Obsessive compulsive disorder
is a disorder which affects approximately 2 to 3 percent of the population (Salkovskis, 2007) (Taylor
Reeder, 2015). Cognitive behavioral therapy is a method of treatment recommended by the National
Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, with the results proving to be effective ( Abramowitz,
Foa, Franklin, 2003; Anderson Rees, 2007; Department of Health, 2001; NICE, 2006; Storch et al.,
2008) (Taylor Reeder, 2015). Likewise, group cognitive behavioral therapy is a proven effective
treatment for OCD, with similar results shown from individual cognitive behavioral therapy
(Hougaard, 2009) (Anderson Rees, 2007) (Taylor Reeder, 2015).
The participant completed a questionnaire prior to treatment, and then again upon commencement of
treatment (Taylor Reeder, 2015). Ultimately she completed a total of 18 hours of therapy over the
course of four weeks (Taylor Reeder, 2015). During the course of treatment, the participant did
indicate improvements in her OCD and anxiety. However, her improvements did tend to fluctuate over
the course of treatment (Taylor Reeder, 2015).
This article indicated that while CBT is an effective method for

Rural Urban Environment Essay
Transition from Rural to Urban Environments
Humans once lived in the natural world, as other wild animals continue to do, but with the evolution
of civilization came urbanization. The United Nations reports that In the middle of the 20th century,
30 percent of people resided in urban areas. Today, over half of the world s population lives in urban
environments, and this figure is expected to increase anywhere from ten to twenty percent in the next
few decades (United Nations). Europe and the Americas are the most highly urbanized places, but
countries in all parts of the world are urbanizing at increasing rates (United Nations). The rise of
people living in urban areas will add 2. 5 billion people to the population by 2050, which will further
increase the demand for urbanization (United Nations). Meanwhile, less people are living in rural
environments (United Nations). The rate of rural population growth has decreased since the 1950s,
and it is projected that the number of people living in rural areas will drop from the current 3. 4 billion
to 3. 2 billion by 2050 (United Nations).
Changes in living environments consequently brought about changes in lifestyle. Richard Louv recalls
that the middle of the last century saw a huge migration of Americans to suburban neighborhoods,
areas that fall in between the categorizations for rural and urban. (2008). While the concept of
suburbia implies less urbanicity than cities, today s suburbs are vastly different from the

The Battle Of Chancellorsville As General Robert E. Lee
Civil War historians view the Battle of Chancellorsville as General Robert E. Lee s greatest and most
remarkable victory (Sears 1). Lee, facing an army twice his size, defies all military doctrine and
divides his army multiple times in order to out maneuver and surprise the Union forces. The daring
maneuver succeeds and ultimately forces the Union s Army of the Potomac to retreat. The victory was
another major blow to Union troops, but it came at a huge cost to the Confederacy: the loss of General
Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson. By evaluating the battle through the lens of the mission command
activities, one can see how Lee s daring maneuver was actually very calculated and his only option for
victory. Throughout the rest of this paper, I will describe the timeline of the battle and how General
Lee used the mission command activities of understand, visualize, assess, and lead to ultimately
achieve victory at Chancellorsville. After the Union s defeat at Fredericksburg in December of 1862,
President Abraham Lincoln once again made a change in the Union Army s leadership. General
Ambrose Burnside was replaced with Major General Joseph Hooker. Hooker and Lincoln both agreed
that the key to victory in the war was the destruction of Lee s Army in a decisive battle (Sears 57 62).
Hooker s plan to accomplish this was to use his 130,000 soldiers and launch a double envelopment of
Lee s 60,000 men still camped at Fredericksburg. Between April 27 and May 1 of 1863, Hooker

Political Conflict In Riyadh And Iran
The latest developments that just unfolded in Riyadh are unsettling and carry a high risk of a regional
confrontation. An assertive Saudi crown prince is determined to consolidate power by purging
dissidents at home while escalating rhetoric abroad.
Such a diversionary approach, seemingly employed to shift attention away from domestic turmoil, is
challenging an emboldened Iranian regime whose armed proxies have been strengthening their hold
from the Levant to Yemen. While these circumstances are tantamount to an imminent war scenario
between Riyadh and Tehran, there are indications that it might not actually be the case.
On November 4, within the span of few hours, two major events took place: Lebanese Prime Minister
Saad Hariri ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two Saudi ambassadors in Iraq and Lebanon were appointed last week, showing a willingness to
engage. On October 25, Saudi Arabia and Iran finally agreed to have the Swiss government as a go
between for consular and diplomatic services, after breaking off diplomatic ties in early 2016.
Riyadh has returned to Iraq after a long absence, hoping to increase political influence and explore a
new market. A military confrontation with Iran is counterproductive to Saudi engagement in Iraq.
While in Syria, Saudi Arabia has been keeping a low profile with an influence restricted to elements in
the exiled civilian opposition.
Third, a confrontation is not in Iran s interest for now. The Iranian regime, which has been more
united since President Hassan Rouhani s reelection in May, is focused on reaping the economic
benefits of the nuclear deal and preserving the gains made in Syria.
Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of Iran s Revolutionary Guard, announced on October 31 that Iran
will be restricting its long range missiles to 2,000km, which can reach Israel and US interests in the
Middle East. The move was meant to reassure European countries that are beyond that missile range.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who visited Tehran on November 1, convinced Tehran to tone down
the rhetoric against the US. While Russia is focused on advancing a political solution in Syria, Iran
sees that the Syrian war will

Using Custom Apps For The Android System
One of the ways that a user can expose himself to malware can be to hack Android devices in order to
get root privileges to install custom apps. This has several risks as it elevates a user s privileges
rerouting the Android system. With root privileges, an Android user can do many things that the
Android manufacturers have disabled for you as a normal user. This creates security flaws because
hazardous apps can be installed and apps can get root privileges. User installed apps that require root
privileges can be especially dangerous. Illegal means will beget illegal acts. A general rule of thumb is
that if a user must do something that the Android designers don t want them to do, then it s for good
reason. A good saying to follow by is that if you aren t the consumer, then you are the product. This
means that if you get things for free, then there s almost always a catch. Security may be a beneficial
factor for devices, but ultimately the user is responsible.
The Google Play Store is an app that connects to a server hosted by Google that stores a large
collection of apps made by companies or users. These apps add functionality to our phone. Developers
use Google s software development kit or SDK to create new apps for the Android platforms. If
Developers uphold Security, then hackers may not be as likely to create malware to reroute apps to the
detriment of the users. Developers may also look at the statistics and comments of the app to learn
what bugs are still in the app

Effect Of Smartphones On Advertising
Dr. Fusani
Zack Mineo
Spring 2016
The Effect of Smartphones on Advertising The amount of smartphones users have nearly doubled
within the past 5 years, from 35% to 70%.( 2014 Marketing Statistics Infographic ). As the number of
users continues to rise, advertising will continue to integrate with smartphones. Smartphones have
dramatically changed the way consumers are approached by advertising companies. Before we can
understand how smartphones have changed the advertising industry, we must first recognize that
advertising and smartphones were not always related. By answering the following two question, it will
further examine the effect of smartphones on advertising. How have smartphones impacted the
advertising industry? How effective advertising on smartphones is?
Background of advertising
Before I can explain the effects of smartphones on advertising, we must first understand what the goal
of advertising was before smartphones. According to Joseph Dominik Advertising is any form of
nonpersonal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, and services, usually paid for by an identified
sponsor. (Dominick 350). The first appearance of advertising on radio dates back to 1922 when the
Queensboro Realty Company paid a few hundred dollars for a talk radio show to commend living in
country lots from Queensboro Realty. (Dominick 179). Since then advertising has grown rapidly
especially during the time of the depression and World War II. President Franklin D Roosevelt wanted

Real Food for The Hungry Essay
How often do children who whine about eating their peas and carrots at the dinner table hear from
their mothers, You should appreciate the food on our table, there are starving kids in Africa. Although
parents use the preceding phrase as a guilt mechanism to trick their children into eating their veggies
so they too can consume the vitamins and nutrients they need to grow, the reality behind the phrase is
much deeper than most realize. People are starving in almost every part of the world and the solution
to that problem has yet to be discovered. A solution that has been considered for some time now but
recently has sparked more interest is the use of genetically modified foods to feed the hungry. Should
genetically modified foods be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality, the life science companies are making large sums of money for their overpriced, mass
produced seeds in a short amount of time. Also, one of the reasons why companies price their
genetically modified foods at such a high cost is because creating such seeds and testing them costs
millions of dollars. The companies obviously want to protect themselves, so charging high rates for
their customers turns out to be the best solution. Unfortunately, those high prices then restrict
genetically modified seeds to small companies/farms who can afford those prices, or even worse,
desperate farmers willing to go into more debt to try out the miracle seeds. Sadly enough, poor
farmers are taking that risk. Farmers who are already poor from the lack of profitable crops would
only put themselves in more debt by trying to purchase outrageously priced genetically modified
seeds. Avery later argues, The high cost of development and the monopoly on intellectual property
also result in high prices, making seed costs prohibitive for most independent farmers... Thus,
technology that originally was invented to prevent world hunger is not accessible to those who need it
most (Avery).

Smoking Persuasive Essay
Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only damage
smokers. According to David M. Ludington, Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the toxic
elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in the
United States (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of smoking,
the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be banned, for it
can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which leads to future health
risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and inclusively contributes to
various environmental and social problems.
Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart
attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account of
when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize smoking
in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the whole impact
to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye perceives. If and when
innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a path of health risks. This
course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been since American Indians first
introduced tobacco to the European settlers. It is

Each party is also allowed to cross examine the other parties evidence, to confirm the accuracy of the evidence. Accused persons are judged solely on the evidence presented at the trial. This determines that evidence such as a past conviction, is inadmissible. This advantage preserves the principle of treating a person as being innocent until proven guilty. Equally, this protects the civil rights of the individual, as the adversary system is structured to permit ten guilty men go free rather than convict one innocent man. Another advantage that the adversary system has is that the accused has the right to be tried by their peers. The doctrine of precedent ensures people are treated consistently, and justly. The last advantage is that all parties have the right to appeal to the Appellate court. Consistently there are also eight disadvantages, that match the advantages. • 8. Aristotle s Theory Of Falling My thesis is twofold: Aristotle s empirical arguments supporting the view that the earth is a sphere are not convincing ; however, his hybrid argument combining a priori and empirical claims based on his theory of falling succeeds in displacing Pre Socratic Cosmology and empirically grounding the creation cosmology of Plato s Timaeus. Aristotle inherited a tradition of cosmologies espoused by the Presocratics beginning with Thales, The Earth floats on water, which is in some way the source of all things (Kirk B13) . The tradition continues with Anaximenes, The earth is flat and rides on air (B13) and reaches a zenith with Parmenides, ...there is a furthest limit, it is perfected, like the bulk of a ball well rounded on every side, equally balanced in every direction from the center (Fr. 8 32 49). These three quotes identify two themes that Aristotle would face while developing his cosmogony: how does the earth maintain its place in the universe and what is its shape. Aristotle also labored under the imposing shadow of his teacher Plato who developed his cosmology in the Timaeus, ...he should fashion the world as a single whole... And he gave it a shape appropriate to the kind of thing it was... Hence he gave it a round shape, the form of a sphere... (Timaeus 33a b). As society progresses, people have to adjust to new societal norms. The story, Boys and Girls by Alice Munro is about an 11 year old girl who lives in a fox breeding farm, alongside her parents and siblings. The whole point of breeding the foxes is to be able to kill them and later skin them but the horses they own are killed in order to feed and bulk up the foxes. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story, Boys and Girls states As soon as I was done I ran out of, trying to get out of earshot before my mother thought of what she wanted me to do next (Munro 156). It shows a wide example of how gender roles are strictly implied in this household and how the little girl tries to avoid it as much as possible. The story follows between the lines between a woman being fragile and catering to men, and men not breaking and providing for the family. The feminist theory widely connects to the story because it gives an insight of the issue of the typical gender roles and what big of an impact it makes when they are not followed. According to the article Gender Inequality in the Home, by authors Janell Fetterolf and Lauren Rudman Despite women s increased presence and status in the workforce, there is still a disparity in domestic labor that disadvantages women (Fetterolf 220). It proves a critical point that women will always be set to gender role standards that they are expected to follow. The 11 year old girl struggles with wanting to be out with her father but still having to take responsibility for the tasks that are imposed and meant for her. According to the story, the girl s father introduced her as his, new hired man. I turned away and raked furiously, red in the face with pleasure (Munro 155). It seems as though she takes much pride in being seen as masculine figure, rather than being portrayed in the norm of a fragile good girl who is supposed to be at home doing housework. • 14. Kepler s Laws Of Planetary Motion Kepler s Laws Johannes Kepler formulated the Three Laws of Planetary Motion. The first is the Law of Orbits, stating that all planets move in elliptical orbits with the sun at one focus. The second law is the Law of Areas. This is the idea that a line that connects the planet to the sun sweeps out equal areas in the plane of the planet s orbit in equal time intervals. Last is the Law of Periods which states that the square of the period of any planet is proportional to the cube of the semi major axis of its orbit. It is simple to just accept the laws and memorize them, but take it a step further. What are the explanations to these laws and how did Kepler come to those conclusions? The results that Kepler published actually began with Tycho Brahe. Brahe was interested in reforming astronomy, and wanted to prove his idea that planets circle the sun which then move around the stationary earth. He made several observations with advanced instruments that still to this day have been proven by calculations done with modern computers to be quite accurate. All of Brahe s observations were very useful and interesting to Kepler who became Brahe s assistant in 1600. Some propose that Brahe only continued making observations because he was unsure of what to do with them or how to apply them, so it was left up to assistants such as Johannes Kepler to put the information to use (J.V. Field). Kepler had been engaging in finding an orbit of Mars, and Brahe s observations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My hyperventilating breathing was the only sound I could hear, along with my thumping heart. As it concentrated on the continuous howling, I glanced to the left to see a sharp branch on the ground. Sneakily, I weave my hand around the beast iron grip, to reach for the stick. It growled at my sudden movement, but I gripped the stick, swinging it back to force it off me. The beast reacted with a forceful growl, angry at my attempts to escape. I let out a long breath before I let out a battle cry, swinging the object to slash its face. The stick grazed the beast eye, blinding it in one eye. I took this to my advantage; kicking it in the chest as it whimpered to the ground by roared a loud and wind filled growl into the air, declaring war. • 22. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Ugly Tourist Rhetorical Analysis of The Ugly Tourist Daily, hundreds of thousands of people are traveling, whether it s by plane, car, bus, boat, or foot, people are traveling to new locations and being immersed in different cultures. Many fail to realize how ignorant of a tourist they are. Kincaid explains that tourists are morally ugly and use other, less fortunate people, for their own amusement. She tries to enlighten those who are privileged to be more considerate when they are visiting new places. Published author Jamaica Kincaid wrote The Ugly Tourist, originally written in her book, A Small Place, where she tries to convince readers that tourists are, a piece of rubbish (207). Kincaid s attempt to convey to the audience that tourists are ignorant and morally ugly is partially successful, due to her satisfactory emotional appeal, yet inability to produce a less angry tone, along with minimal logical appeal. To begin, Kincaid uses emotional appeal throughout the essay to further her argument. She begins by painting the audience a picture of themselves in their everyday life. Walking with an everyday crowd, they begin to realize how alone you feel in this crowd, how awful it is to go unnoticed, how awful it is to go unloved (Kincaid 206). Kincaid starts off her piece by making her audience feel isolated and alone, setting the tone for the rest of the piece. She makes the everyday audience, who can afford to escape their everyday life, feel unappreciative of their situation. This furthers her argument by making the audience feel poorly about things they may take for granted, that many natives from poorer countries cannot afford. They may have the luxury to travel outside of their bubble, while natives do not have the same luxury as them. In addition, Kincaid makes the reader feel embarrassed. Kincaid restates, An ugly thing, that is what you are when you become a tourist, an ugly, empty thing, a stupid thing, a piece of rubbish pausing here and there... behind their closed doors they laugh at your strangeness (207). She gives the reader the idea that the natives are mocking tourists because they are not familiar with their surroundings. Where people should feel the joy of exploring new places, Kincaid ... Literature Review Intensive Individual and Group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder This article highlights the experience of a 46 year old woman with obsessive compulsive disorder, and how adding cognitive behavioral therapy to her treatment benefits her. Obsessive compulsive disorder is a disorder which affects approximately 2 to 3 percent of the population (Salkovskis, 2007) (Taylor Reeder, 2015). Cognitive behavioral therapy is a method of treatment recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, with the results proving to be effective ( Abramowitz, Foa, Franklin, 2003; Anderson Rees, 2007; Department of Health, 2001; NICE, 2006; Storch et al., 2008) (Taylor Reeder, 2015). • 25. Rural Urban Environment Essay Transition from Rural to Urban Environments Humans once lived in the natural world, as other wild animals continue to do, but with the evolution of civilization came urbanization. The United Nations reports that In the middle of the 20th century, 30 percent of people resided in urban areas. Today, over half of the world s population lives in urban environments, and this figure is expected to increase anywhere from ten to twenty percent in the next few decades (United Nations). Europe and the Americas are the most highly urbanized places, but countries in all parts of the world are urbanizing at increasing rates (United Nations). The rise of people living in urban areas will add 2. 5 billion people to the population by 2050, which will further increase the demand for urbanization (United Nations). Meanwhile, less people are living in rural environments (United Nations). The rate of rural population growth has decreased since the 1950s, and it is projected that the number of people living in rural areas will drop from the current 3. 4 billion to 3. 2 billion by 2050 (United Nations). Changes in living environments consequently brought about changes in lifestyle. Richard Louv recalls that the middle of the last century saw a huge migration of Americans to suburban neighborhoods, areas that fall in between the categorizations for rural and urban. (2008). While the concept of suburbia implies less urbanicity than cities, today s suburbs are vastly different from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Battle Of Chancellorsville As General Robert E. Lee Civil War historians view the Battle of Chancellorsville as General Robert E. Lee s greatest and most remarkable victory (Sears 1). Lee, facing an army twice his size, defies all military doctrine and divides his army multiple times in order to out maneuver and surprise the Union forces. The daring maneuver succeeds and ultimately forces the Union s Army of the Potomac to retreat. The victory was another major blow to Union troops, but it came at a huge cost to the Confederacy: the loss of General Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson. By evaluating the battle through the lens of the mission command activities, one can see how Lee s daring maneuver was actually very calculated and his only option for victory. Throughout the rest of this paper, I will describe the timeline of the battle and how General Lee used the mission command activities of understand, visualize, assess, and lead to ultimately achieve victory at Chancellorsville. After the Union s defeat at Fredericksburg in December of 1862, President Abraham Lincoln once again made a change in the Union Army s leadership. General Ambrose Burnside was replaced with Major General Joseph Hooker. Hooker and Lincoln both agreed that the key to victory in the war was the destruction of Lee s Army in a decisive battle (Sears 57 62). Hooker s plan to accomplish this was to use his 130,000 soldiers and launch a double envelopment of Lee s 60,000 men still camped at Fredericksburg. Between April 27 and May 1 of 1863, Hooker ... • 27. Political Conflict In Riyadh And Iran The latest developments that just unfolded in Riyadh are unsettling and carry a high risk of a regional confrontation. An assertive Saudi crown prince is determined to consolidate power by purging dissidents at home while escalating rhetoric abroad. Such a diversionary approach, seemingly employed to shift attention away from domestic turmoil, is challenging an emboldened Iranian regime whose armed proxies have been strengthening their hold from the Levant to Yemen. While these circumstances are tantamount to an imminent war scenario between Riyadh and Tehran, there are indications that it might not actually be the case. Two Saudi ambassadors in Iraq and Lebanon were appointed last week, showing a willingness to engage. On October 25, Saudi Arabia and Iran finally agreed to have the Swiss government as a go between for consular and diplomatic services, after breaking off diplomatic ties in early 2016. Riyadh has returned to Iraq after a long absence, hoping to increase political influence and explore a new market. A military confrontation with Iran is counterproductive to Saudi engagement in Iraq. While in Syria, Saudi Arabia has been keeping a low profile with an influence restricted to elements in the exiled civilian opposition. Third, a confrontation is not in Iran s interest for now. The Iranian regime, which has been more united since President Hassan Rouhani s reelection in May, is focused on reaping the economic benefits of the nuclear deal and preserving the gains made in Syria. Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of Iran s Revolutionary Guard, announced on October 31 that Iran will be restricting its long range missiles to 2,000km, which can reach Israel and US interests in the Middle East. The move was meant to reassure European countries that are beyond that missile range. • 29. Using Custom Apps For The Android System One of the ways that a user can expose himself to malware can be to hack Android devices in order to get root privileges to install custom apps. This has several risks as it elevates a user s privileges rerouting the Android system. With root privileges, an Android user can do many things that the Android manufacturers have disabled for you as a normal user. This creates security flaws because hazardous apps can be installed and apps can get root privileges. User installed apps that require root privileges can be especially dangerous. Illegal means will beget illegal acts. A general rule of thumb is that if a user must do something that the Android designers don t want them to do, then it s for good reason. A good saying to follow by is that if you aren t the consumer, then you are the product. This means that if you get things for free, then there s almost always a catch. As the number of users continues to rise, advertising will continue to integrate with smartphones. Smartphones have dramatically changed the way consumers are approached by advertising companies. Before we can understand how smartphones have changed the advertising industry, we must first recognize that advertising and smartphones were not always related. By answering the following two question, it will further examine the effect of smartphones on advertising. How have smartphones impacted the advertising industry? How effective advertising on smartphones is? Background of advertising Before I can explain the effects of smartphones on advertising, we must first understand what the goal of advertising was before smartphones. According to Joseph Dominik Advertising is any form of nonpersonal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, and services, usually paid for by an identified sponsor. (Dominick 350). The first appearance of advertising on radio dates back to 1922 when the Queensboro Realty Company paid a few hundred dollars for a talk radio show to commend living in country lots from Queensboro Realty. Real Food for The Hungry Essay How often do children who whine about eating their peas and carrots at the dinner table hear from their mothers, You should appreciate the food on our table, there are starving kids in Africa. Although parents use the preceding phrase as a guilt mechanism to trick their children into eating their veggies so they too can consume the vitamins and nutrients they need to grow, the reality behind the phrase is much deeper than most realize. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality, the life science companies are making large sums of money for their overpriced, mass produced seeds in a short amount of time. Also, one of the reasons why companies price their genetically modified foods at such a high cost is because creating such seeds and testing them costs millions of dollars. The companies obviously want to protect themselves, so charging high rates for their customers turns out to be the best solution. Unfortunately, those high prices then restrict genetically modified seeds to small companies/farms who can afford those prices, or even worse, desperate farmers willing to go into more debt to try out the miracle seeds. Sadly enough, poor farmers are taking that risk. Farmers who are already poor from the lack of profitable crops would only put themselves in more debt by trying to purchase outrageously priced genetically modified seeds. Avery later argues, The high cost of development and the monopoly on intellectual property also result in high prices, making seed costs prohibitive for most independent farmers... Thus, technology that originally was invented to prevent world hunger is not accessible to those who need it most (Avery). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Smoking Persuasive Essay Although smoking is seen as a right of freedom, it has numerous consequences that not only damage smokers. According to David M. Ludington, Cigarette smoke is the most dangerous of the toxic elements in our environment. Smoking is responsible for almost 500 000 deaths each year in the United States (1). For the reason that many citizens are not well informed with the effects of smoking, the United States has a high death rate per year. The act of smoking in public should be banned, for it can influence any uninformed individuals to acquire the habit of smoking, which leads to future health risks. Smoking imposes hazardous health problems to anyone nearby, and inclusively contributes to various environmental and social problems. Smoking can cause imminent health issues to all who choose to smoke. Lung cancer, asthma, heart attacks, and lung diseases are some of the results from smoking. Many do not take this in account of when attracted to smoking. For this reason, it is unethical for authorities to not fully illegalize smoking in public. Individuals have the freedom to smoke, yet the government must oversee the whole impact to the communities. People of all ages are vulnerable to what their naked eye perceives. If and when innocents desire to smoke, they would have now exposed themselves to a path of health risks. This course of action is proven to repeat throughout generations as it has been since American Indians first introduced tobacco to the European settlers. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
