Essay on Cycles of Violence in The Battler
Cycles of Violence in The Battler
Ernest Hemingway s The Battler provides a continued account of Nick Adams dangerous and
violent life. Previous stories compiled in The Short Stories edition of Hemingway s work
documents some of the tribulations of Nick Adams, one of Hemingway s protagonists. Apparently,
Nick has been plagued by moments of sheer humility, terror, and immutable violence. In the
Hemingway short story Indian Camp, Nick is a young boy who witnesses a dreadfully difficult
birth by a Native American woman, enduring all the while the hubris of his surgeon father, who is
contestibly insensitive to Nick s innocence. Once the birth has ended, the husband of the woman is
found with a freshly slit throat, again ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

His state of affairs does not improve, however. Nick happens upon a camp of tow men, one of
whom is an ex prizefighter, Ad Francis. Upon arrival, Nick calls out, Hello, and is greeted by Ad
with Where d you get that shiner? (p. 130) Not a typical response, but Nick is about to learn he
is not in a set of typical circumstances. Ad Francis face is described queerly formed and
mutilated...putty in color, with a sunken nose, slitted eyes and with only one ear. (p. 131)
Clearly, the implication is that Ad Francis has seen some beatings in his day. This is confirmed
by the man himself: They all bust their hands on me...they couldn t hurt me. (p. 132) The
extreme physical toll taken by Ad has affected him mentally. Listen, he tells Nick, I m not quite
right. (p. 132) Like Nick, Ad is a man who has encountered violence and humiliation all of his
life. Countless blows have found their mark on his now deformed face. In a way, Ad is a physical
representation of Nick s fortitude and perserverance, a fellow sufferer whose pain has surfaced in a
more tangible way, who takes immediate notice of things like black eyes.
Soon after Nick s introduction to Ad, another man approaches the fire. Nick is introduced to
Bugs as Ad s pal...he s crazy too. (p. 133) Physically, Bugs is a stark contrast to Ad s figure: tall,
black, low voiced and calm. Bugs begins to cook a dinner of ham and eggs over the campfire that

When a statement of cash flow is viewed along with the other financial statements, it provides
information that enables users to evaluate the changes in net assets of an enterprise, its financial
structure including its liquidity and solvency and its ability to affect the amounts and timing of
cash flows in order to adapt to changing circumstances and opportunities.
Under the heading, Benefits of Cash Flow Information, the ministry of corporation affairs describes
that, Cash flow information is useful in assessing the ability of an organization to generate cash and
cash equivalents that enables users to develop models to assess and compare the present value of
the future cash flows of different companies (Benefits of Cash Flow Information, Government of
India). As a result of this the cash flow statement enhances the comparability of the reporting of
operating performance by different companies because it eliminates the effects of using different
accounting treatments for the same transactions and events. Consistency in financial statements
year over year plays a large part in accounting as it allows management to easily compare the
company s performance.
How does a statement of cash flow effect business managers and stakeholders?
A statement of cash flow is an extremely important financial statement for management or external

1. The three positions taken when decoding an image are said to be dominant, negotiated and
oppositional. Choose two images, one from the genre of documentary and one from advertising,
and explain the process of encoding and decoding to explain these three positions the viewer may
take when decoding your chosen images.
Stuart Hall s text, Encoding, Decoding identifies three positions one can take in decoding an
image. These three positions are dominant, negotiated and oppositional. In light of Hall s theory,
this essay will, firstly explain the process of encoding and decoding and secondly will decode the
following two images, Super Size Me by Morgan Spurlock, from the genre of documentary and the
Louis Vuitton advertisement featuring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The viewer that approaches the documentary, Super Size Me , with a negotiated decoding
position identifies the codes of eating and indulging in fast food will eventually kill you. They
identify that there are high risks with eating McDonalds. The viewer will then modify and adapt
the codes within the documentary to reflect on their own position, experiences and interests.
These positions can be of acknowledgement that McDonalds is bad but it s not bad for everyone
and that some people s bodies can handle the intake of such a diet. Other modifications could be
that if they ate fast food every day that they would love it and would believe that they would be
ok. They would acknowledge that yes McDonalds is not good for one s health but it s not the
only cause that made him so sick. They believe that yes eating it was shown to be harmful to the
body but that it will not happen to them because their body is in good shape.
The decoder with the oppositional position will understand the connotative message of the image
full well but is in a direct oppositional relation to the dominant signifiers and therefore decodes the
message in a contrary way (Hall). The viewer that approaches the documentary, Super Size Me ,
with an oppositional decoding

Analyse The Importance Of Being Earnest Satire Essay
The play, The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde was written during the Victorian Era,
characterized for its moral values. Throughout the play, Wilde used satire as comical relief to show
his deviance from the social order by making ridiculous the ideas of standards, morals and manners.
Oscar Wilde criticizes the superficiality of Victorian marriage and courtship through the character
Lady Bracknell and the name Earnest.
Lady Bracknell is presented by Wilde as the true definition of a satirical character. She uses
satirical comments to show her disinterest in Jack, the character that would like to marry her
daughter Gwendolen. Satire is expressed through the lines in which Lady Bracknell says, However,
I am quite ready to enter your name, should your answers be what a really affectionate ... Show

Do you smoke? (Wilde 20) In these lines, exaggeration is placed in a way that makes the reader
pause to question what was just said. As the reader, it is anticipated that Lady Bracknell will begin
asking a series of difficult questions, but instead she voices a more straightforward question. During
the Victorian Era, the mothers had a certain criteria that they wanted their daughter s courter to be
compliant with. Wilde created the element of satire by basically mocking interview questions
that could have possibly been asked during the Victorian Era. Along with having a specific
criteria, financial stability was extremely important to people during the Victorian Era. This
aspect of society is mocked by Wilde when Lady Bracknell states, A hundred and thirty thousand
pounds! And in the funds! Miss Cardew seems to me a most attractive young lady now that I
look at her. (Wilde 77) In the lines prior to this one, Lady Bracknell is showing her detest towards
Cecily until she asks about the money she has and her financial stability. It is then where she
decides that Cecily may not be that bad of a girl at all. This presents

A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O’Connor Essay
In the short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find, written by Flannery O Connor, the theme that the
definition of a good man is mysterious and flawed is apparent. The reader must realize that it is
difficult to universalize the definition of a good man because every person goes through different
experiences. Thus, these experiences affect his or her viewpoint and in turn flaw ones view on a
good man. O Connor conveys this theme through her excellent use of diction, imagery,
foreshadowing, and symbolism as well as through a creative use of repetition and an omniscient
point of view. The grandmother, the main character of the story, is manipulative. Her definition of a
good man refers to the characteristics that a good man should possess.... Show more content on

She [the grandmother] pointed out interesting details of the scenery: Stone Mountain, the blue
granite that in some places came up to both sides of the highway; the brilliant red clay banks
slightly streaked with purple; and the various crops that made row of green lace work on the
ground. The trees were full of silver white sunlight and the meanest of them sparkled. (1286) She
uses informal diction to help achieve the targeted theme and her slight use of a southern dialect
is one brilliant component that helps her to do so. For example, when the family stops for
barbecue sandwiches along their way to Tennessee, the owner s wife compliments the
granddaughter. Ain t she cute? Red Sam s wife said, leaning over the counter. Would you like to
come be my little girl? (1287). Adding this southern twist of diction as well as the southern
setting helps to illustrate the culture the grandmother was raised in. This helps to bridge the gap
between what the reader s definition of a good man may be, based off of their cultural
upbringing, and the grandmother s definition of a good man. This gap reinforces the O Conner s
idea that there cannot be a universal definition of a good man. Imagery is used flawlessly in this
short story. O Connor uses descriptive adjectives fairly often to paint a picture in the reader s mind
and to add spice to her

How has James Cameron s adoption to 3D advanced the film industry?
Early stages of 3D
3D has been around for a long time, the earliest confirmed 3D film called The Power of Love
(Directed by Nat G. Deverich, Harry K. Fairall) , which was displayed at an out house called
Ambassador Hotel Theatre in Los Angeles on the 27th of September 1922. Since then 3D films
hasn t exactly been the best film experience for everyone to watch, I m sure Deverich and Fairall
wasn t expecting this out come. The truth is, the majority of cinema released films these days are
3D to make extra money rather than films specifically made to be in 3D. A good example is
Avengers: Age of Ultron. This film may of been filmed in 3D but it still doesn t give you the feel
you expect, fair enough the characters pop out a little or focused objects pop out more than the
foreground, but this isn t really pushing 3D to its limits.

Colonoscopy
Why You Should Have A Colonoscopy And How It s Done
If you re approaching your 50th birthday, your doctor may recommend a baseline colonoscopy.
The American Cancer Society recommends that everyone should begin colon cancer screening
tests at 50 years of age. A colonoscopy is one such test your doctor can order for a baseline and then
repeat every ten years thereafter if the tests are negative. If your doctor finds early signs of cancer
or polyps, you may need to have more frequent tests to keep an eye on your condition. Here s a
look at why this colon cancer test is important for your health and how it s done.

the procedure, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it may sound like an uncomfortable experience to endure, you will be sedated during the
procedure, so you won t have much discomfort. You may take a pill the morning of the test, or
your doctor may give you a sedative along with pain medications through an IV. The advantage of
IV medications is they work quickly and wear off quickly. Plus, your doctor can adjust the dose to
make sure you are kept comfortable.
To perform this test, your doctor uses a flexible scope with a camera to look inside your colon. To
get a good view of your colon wall, you ll need to take laxatives the day before to clean everything
out of your system. It s important for your colon to be as clean as possible so your doctor doesn t
overlook any tiny polyps.
If your doctor sees a polyp, he or she can snip it out and send it to the lab to be tested for cancer.
You may not have any polyps, but you could have one or several. They may or may not be
cancerous. The frequency of your future testing will depend on the size, number, and cell
characteristics of the polyps removed during your baseline colonoscopy.
A colonoscopy isn t the only colon cancer test you can have, but it is often recommended. The
advantage of this test is your doctor can look for growths and remove them at the same

Father And Son Historians, Arthur M. Schlesinger Essay
Father and son historians, Arthur M. Schlesinger and Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr., asked some of the
top historians in the country to rank each president in the categories Great, Near Great, Average,
Below Average, and Failure based on their time in the White House (Schlesinger Jr. 179). The
official ranking lists Andrew Jacksonas the fifth best presidentoverall, which landed him a
comfortable spot in the Near Great category. Andrew Jackson s presidency belongs in a much
lower category due to his immoral character, unilateral decision making, and his unimpressive
presidency relative to that of other presidents. Before expanding on the specifics of why Andrew
Jackson does not belong in the Near Great category, the criteria that Andrew Jackson along with
other presidents will be analyzed against needs to be outlined. First, the qualifications of each
president are of the utmost importance when determining presidential greatness. The qualifications
of the president are delineated in Article II of the U.S. Constitution. The president s established
qualifications outlined in Article II are as follows: to be eligible, one must be a natural born
citizen of the United States, must have lived in the United States for at least 14 years, and must be
at least 35 years of age (Cornell). Though important, these qualifications alone would allow almost
anyone over the age of 35 to be qualified enough to become president.

Governments Enact Laws Governing Refugee And Asylum...
Governments enact laws governing refugee and asylum seekers based on political factors. Ties
between the country of origin and the country of asylum, national security and current event are
some of the factors that cause governments to enact laws for political reasons. As a result,
countries will use certain criteria to accept different flows of refuges that will foster a policy of
discrimination. Policies enacted for political reasons do not always reflect the social climate of the
country, but more times than not the social factors and the political factors are aligned with the
same ideologies.
Using the country of origin in the evaluation process is the most conventional method of
identifying ties between countries of origin and the country of asylum, acknowledge national
security threats as well as deal with current events. Every application process requires applicants to
state their country of origin. Close political links between the governments of a country of possible
asylum and the country of origin make people afraid to ask for asylum in the relevant country of
destination (Havinga and Bocker, 1999). Applicants know that the friendship between the two
countries is bound to result in a denial of asylum. The country of asylum would not want to
embarrass the country of origin. In the countries that a friendship is evident, asylum is almost
certainly denied because a bestowal of refugee status upon asylum seekers implies that the sending

Transfer Pricing--Market-Based vs. Cost-Based
Introduction
Transfer pricing is one of the key factors of a management control system, which helps a company
to achieve its goals, including profit maximization and tax minimization.
There are several methods of setting transfer prices among profit centers within the same
organization. Each profit center tries to set transfer prices which maximize their own profit. The
buying and selling profit centers profits are largely affected by transfer prices. For example, when
a high transfer price is charged, the selling division s profits increase, while the buying division s
costs increase. So, transfer pricing should be established on a reasonable and objective basis, which
should maximize the companywide profit, rather than being based on ... Show more content on

The company should consider whether the transfer pricing method has simplicity and transparency,
which provide objective performance measurements for division managers. With regard to
simplicity and transparency, it is best for the company to set market based transfer pricing because
this is more objective than cost based transfer pricing. In particular, when companies use cost based
transfer pricing, it is difficult to evaluate division performance unless the transfer prices exceed full
costs.
Generally, a company can save more money and effort through internal sales compared with
external sales, due to the absence of customer credit checking or collecting. In addition, market
based transfer prices contribute to the evaluation of the economic viability and profitability of
profit centers individually. Market based transfer pricing portrays the real market supply and
demand more clearly because, when supply exceeds demand, market prices may decrease, so
market based transfer prices decrease as well.
However, market based transfer pricing has several disadvantages. You cannot use the market
based transfer pricing method when there is no market price in the market. For example, when the
selling division makes specially customized products for the buying division, you cannot get a
market price for the products. Similarly, in the case of a pharmaceutical company selling patent
protected drugs, you cannot get an appropriate market price for

Defining Zero-Based Budgeting
ZERO BASED BUDGETING
What is Zero Based Budgeting?
Zero based budgeting is an innovative approach towards budgeting in corporations that is based on
the framing of assumptions about costs and benefits each time the budget is prepared. A budget is a
plan for the allocation of financial resources by an organization. Organizations possess finite
financial resources that managers allocate among various projects with the expectation that the
utilization of financial resources during the operation of these projects will enable the organization
to earn a targeted level of revenues or profits.
Like every plan, the budget is based on some assumptions about what the costs and revenues will
be affected by, and what the magnitude of these effects will be. These assumptions may change
each time a budget is made and thus may need to be incorporated in the new budget. As opposed to
the conventional form of budgeting which will be discussed later in this paper, zero based
budgeting does not assume that the assumptions made at the time of the last budget are still valid
in the present context. Therefore, the assumptions have to be developed again and justified before
senior management in order to win approval for the allocation of financial resources planned in the
budget (Prokopenko, 1987).
In revising the assumptions afresh, in zero based budgeting, the planner does not base his or her
estimates for the next year on the basis of the figures of the previous year. This is the historic

What Is The Meaning Of Grace
5.3.1THE ETERNAL LOVE OF GOD
When we look at the gift of our redemption, we realise how great God s love is us. The entire
heaven came down in the Son of God, Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. It is a gift without
measure. It is the eternal love of God, given to man with full measure. There is nothing that can be
equalled to that gift. Grace is the love that is called agape in Greek, which is the unmerited favour
or unconditional love from God our father. Lowe says: Grace is such a many sided word that to
define it becomes extremely difficult (1968: 19). Perhaps it is the everlasting and purposeful love
of God.

How deep into sin or pain can we sink that God s hand cannot reach? God s presence is wherever
we are. His own son died on the cross, but God did not prevent it. If God had prevented His Son s

complete. What kind of love is this that left the angels tongue tied and the Devil baffled? This is
the kind of God s amazing love that cannot be changed no matter what! We will have eternity to
study this love, yes eternity.
5.3.3THE CROSS AS THE CENTRE OF REDEEMING GRACE AND LOVE
Christology would not make sense without reconciliation and the shame of the cross that
brought life eternal. The cross made redemption through the blood of Jesus available to all men
and women who would come to Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins. Deuteronomy talks of:
The curse of the law (21:22 23). And in Galatians, Paul talks of: Cursed is everyone that hangeth
on a tree (3:13). The cross was a shame to the Roman family as well as the Jewish family whose
son or daughter had been hanged on the cross. Because of his love, Jesus decided to bear our
shame and our death.
Paul talked greatly about the death and the resurrection of Jesus. Lowe says the following about

Designing The Road At Pehiaweri Marea
7.Discussion:
Now I would like to analyse the research I have done to complete my industry project by answering
the following research questions
Q1.What types of roads are required and how construct the road at pehiaweri marea?
Solution Sealed road The road is a way to reach from one place to another. It limits the wider
distances. Sealed road is a road which surface has been permanently sealed by use of one of several
pavements treatment.
Materials used for sealed road soil, water, asphalt, concrete, tar and Bitumen.
How to construct the road firstly I will investigate and clear the site of road with grass Extracting.
I will remove extra waste materials. I will inspect the soil because clay soil is soft so that strong
soil is needed for construction of road.
Construction of sealed road involves the following 6 basic steps.
1.Preparation of sub grade
2.Preparation of sub base
3.Preparation of base
4.Preparation of wearing course
5.Preparation of shoulders
6.Opening to traffic
Sub grade act as cushion for other layers. It should be strong. The road will be 182 m in length and
7 m wide. It is compacted by rollers by spraying water one night before. Soil will be stabilized on
place with this process. On the well compacted sub grade, spread broken stones or over burnt bricks
in layers of thickness. The sub base should be compacted by a roller to provide a plain surface. On

What did the downfall of the provisional government lead to? The rise of the Soviet Union and

Essay On Play Therapy
Play therapy is appropriate for children between 3 12 years old. Aspects that counselors must
consider include whether the child has the capacity to learn, obtain insight, and the ability to
develop a relationship with an adult. The purpose of play therapy relates to exploring and
expressing feelings, gain knowledge about self and others, strengthen problem solving and decision
making skills, in addition to increasing the child s sense of competence and self efficacy. When
counselor s setup space intended for playtherapy they must ensure that the space is comfortable
and private. According to the text, the room should be between 150 200 square feet with washable
walls and floors, sink and bathroom, and storage shelves cabinets and shelves to store toys and
other materials. Additionally, a one way mirror and recording equipment for videotaping is
recommended (Vernon, 2009). Since school counselors work in educational settings where space is
limited and often designed for instructional or administrative use, acquiring a room with a one way

Go Hard Get Far Rhetorical Analysis
Go Hard, Get Far Michael Phelps has won 28 olympic medals, 23 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze
medals. Indeed this is the most medals any athlete in the Olympics has ever been awarded,
Michael Phelps had to work extremely hard to achieve that world record. Behind the scenes,
Phelps works hard day in and day out. It is not surprising that Under Armour wanted Phelps to star
in their commercial RULE YOURSELF. In this commercial, the rhetorical analysis appeals to
athletes wishing to be successful like Phelps because if he can do it, they can do it too. In the
commercial it shows Michael Phelpsbehind the scenes of all the wins, it shows the trainings, the
work outs, the therapy. The commercial shows Phelps pushing himself past his usual limit, you
can even see him push himself up onto the side of the pool to throw up. His coach is yelling at
him and he can hear his coaches demands as he s trying to sleep. At the end of the video Phelps
is seen swimming in a well lit lane while the others are dark. Under Armour clearly picked Phelps
for this commercial because he s a well known athlete. Also, because under armour wants a star

Usually, dark colors are poetic and sad. Then once the video gets closer to the end the colors
start to get lighter, Phelps is shown swimming in the dark, working out in the dark, and sleeping

only one lane that has a light being shown on it. Lighter colors like the bright, white light in the
video, represent life, joy, and happiness. There s a quote at the end that says It s what you do in
the dark, that puts you in the light. That quote fits into the commercial perfectly, because it shows
how hard he works in the dark and then it shows a silhouette of a crowd under a spotlight. Phelps

Taxing Multinational Corporations, U.s. And Foreign...
While taxing multinational corporations, the U.S. and other foreign governments have faced many
problems. Treaties and laws were set up to avoid double taxation for these multinational
corporations but instead of avoiding double taxation it delineated a way for tax avoidance. With the
old laws, these multinational corporations were allowed to take a taxadvantage. They were allowed
to move their business revenues, which permitted them to go into a lower tax bracket and be
taxed at a tax haven . This allowed them to claim less tax and be more profitable. For example,
foreign owned corporations pay less tax if operating in the U.S. rather than elsewhere and vice
versa. This creates a tax advantage for these corporations because these companies try to transfer
their prices. Their attempt is to shift income away from the U.S. and deduct expenses toward the
U.S. This would create a lower taxable income for those companies that are foreign owned. Though
this was not the intention of the IRS. The IRS hoped to avoid double taxation for these
multinational corporations, because then they would have to pay tax in the country they are
subsiding and the country they are doing business in. However, it is important to note that the IRS
has tried to analyze almost every transaction of multinational companies in order to see if these
related party transactions are in arm s length or not. However even with these attempts to analyze
every transaction, some were still using the laws to

A Research Study On Selecting A Committee
Selecting a committee is a very important step in the process of preparing for a dissertation. As the
researcher engage in the process and in conjunction with the committee chair and members the goal
will be to define the research topic, develop the researchers proposal and engage in the process of
drafting while critiquing the entire researchin an attempt to compose and ensure the researcher
completes his or her dissertation.
Scholars Wu and Beaunae (2014) suggests, the process of finishing a doctoral dissertation is a
process that requires the researcher to have dedication, make many life altering sacrifices as they
engage in multiple theoretical, practical, supervisory and committee team challenges. As I embark
on this daunting journey there have been several professors that have positively impacted my
ability to stay the course and committee to this process. A special thanks goes to professor Lin,
Jameson and Hickman. All three have been influential in my research development as they have
fostered an ethical learning environment that has strengthened my desire and dedication to
complete this doctoral dissertation journey. Scholars Schopfel and Prost (2013) suggests the
selection and roles of the dissertation committee members are critical. The committee chair has
broad decision making powers throughout the process as he or she approves the topic, the
consultation process and every chapter and line within. Each member thereafter should and are

sex characteristics e.g. breasts, pubic hair and a deeper voice.
How it is diagnosed
Genetic testing can be used to check blood for the genetic abnormalities known to cause PWS.
Any suspected diagnosis of PWS is usually made by a physician based on clinical symptoms.
The preferred method of testing is a methylation analysis, which detects 99% of cases.
A FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridization) test will identify those patients with PWS due to a
deletion, but it will not identify those who have PWS by UPD (uniparental disomy) or an
imprinting error.
PWS can be detected before birth if the mother undergoes amniocentesis testing or chorionic villus
sampling but this testing is only recommended if the mother or father is known to have a
chromosome rearrangement, or if they already have a child with PWS.
Incidence in the population
Approximately one out of every 15,000 births.
Males and females equally effected as are all races and ethnicities.
Most common genetic cause of life threatening childhood obesity.

Descriptive Essay About A Day At The Beach
Throughout my life I have been to many beaches, but a few stand out. The select few that stand
out are because of the memories I ve made there, they are the ones I will never forget. Each beach
has its unique value to itself and to me. The one thing all beaches have in common is they are filled
with an obscene amount of people, but hold the most memories. Throughout the years, the beach
has taught me some lessons of independence, which I will be able to use in the future. Overall, the
beach is best spent with friends and family enjoying the water and its transition of a hectic day time
to a peaceful nighttime.
Day, time, temperature, and even the people who I m with all play an important role in
determining how the day at the beach will go. During the day, the smell of sunscreen overcomes
the salty air as the sun intensifies, the seagulls screech louder as they look for food, and the
waves crash faster. The waves also help set the tone for a day at the beach. With strong waves
rolling through its just a matter of time before you get pulled under and turned upside down.
These are the moments that fill me with panic, not knowing which way is up and when I ll turn
back to the surface. The adrenaline rush of being in the ocean, jumping over and diving under the
waves is the best feeling. Strong, fast waves are always the best, but unfortunately there are weak
waves too. Though, weak waves can be boring there are many things to do other than go in the
water. With weak waves,

Article Titled Personal Critical Reaction to the Case for...
Part 1 Personal Critical Reaction Conspiracy to commit murder is one of the most difficult things
to prove without a reasonable doubt and because the prosecution was aware that the case for
murder against the former Sheriff, Dorsey was based upon a conspiracy charge the course of
action for the prosecution was relatively clear. They had to somehow convince a jury that Dorsey
had recruited the four other men, Patrick Cuffy, Paul Skyers, Melvin Walker and David Ramsey
with the express intent of killing Derwin Brown. The reason that these types of murder charges are
fundamentally difficult to prosecute lies in the fact that if the recruiter/master mind behind the
event is ultimately successful on the first attempt to obtain an assassin, there rarely anyone, other
than the actual killer(s) to testify that the mastermind in fact ordered and also likely made some
sort of compensation for the act on the part of the assassin(s). In this case the prosecution proved
to this jury using the testimony of, Patrick Cuffy, Paul Skyers, two of the admitted assassins, on
immunity deals to provide evidence against Dorsey. The ethical dilemma is then the immunity
deals offered to Cuffy and Skyers. The dilemma is fascinating as these sorts of immunity deals, in
the case of murder are relatively rare, as most people feel that the actual doer of the crime, is as
guilty or more guilty than the mastermind behind it, as that individual(s) has the ultimate decision
making as to whether the crime

Pro Life Vs. Pro-Choice
In today s society, there is a huge discussion called, Pro Life vs Pro Choice . This debate is
essentially over whether a woman should have the right to do what she wishes to her body. The
majority of all abortion procedures are within the first trimester of pregnancy. This means there is
no harm done to the fetus because it is only in the first stages of its growth. It is a known fact that
if politicians pass laws against abortions, it will not stop the procedures from happening. If
anything, it will increase the number of deaths in women due to illegal and unsanitary abortions.

Important Data Compression Techniques For Reducing The...
Abstract: one of the important data compression techniques for eliminating the duplicate copies of
repeating data is the data deduplication, and has been widely used in cloud storage to reduce the
amount of storage space and save bandwidth. This method is useful when there are number of
copies that having the duplication in private cloud, which will reduce the amount of repeated files
after applying this technique we will be obtaining the files with no duplication .To protect the
confidentiality of sensitive data while supporting deduplication, the convergent encryption
technique has been proposed to encrypt the data before outsourcing. To better protect data security,
this paper makes the first attempt to formally address the problem of authorized data deduplication.
Different from the traditional deduplication systems, the differential privileges of users are further
considered in duplicate check besides the data itself. We also present several new deduplication
constructions supporting authorized duplicate check in private cloud architecture. As we are using
the private cloud architecture which makes our processing removal of the duplicate files easily.

Disney Movies And The Concepts Of Sexism In Disney Movies
Sexism is an arrangement of dispositions and practices towards individuals that judge or put down
them in the premise of their sex, or that sustain cliche suppositions about sexual orientation parts.
These days, the term is frequently used to allude to men s state of mind towards women, the
mentality doesn t generally need to be awful however. In the disney motion pictures the audience
see today we generally observe sexismtowards women, since they are never ready to ensure
themselves, but instead we have the male character swoop in to allow her out, and this is the
thing that surprises a few of the audience when viewers see or discuss disney movies. Disney
movies are full of sexist messages which teach young girls to accomplish a submissive role in
society such as Beauty and the Beast , Aladdin , and Snow white . Young girls have learned to

The Boys Of Winter Character Analysis
A tale can be told in several different ways. Many people are aware of the astonishing feat of the
1980 USA Olympic Men s Hockey team, who were huge underdogs in their bid to win the gold
medal against the powerhouse USSR. The movie Miracle , directed by Gavin O Connor, is the
dramatic journey taken by this team, from the anxiety filled tryouts in Colorado Springs,
Colorado, to the exhilarating game against the USSR in Lake Placid, New York. The book, The
Boys of Winter written by Wayne Coffey, is based on the same events, but takes a less emotional,
more factual approach to the subject. The purpose of this essay is to compare these two resources,
and to discuss how they differ in tone, style, and theme.
In reviewing these two sources, what is most striking is that the voyage the 1980 USA Olympic
Men s hockey team takes is portrayed very differently in the movie than in the book. The tone
and pacing of the movie is much quicker. For example, the movie only covers about two years in
time while the book, in comparison, covers almost 50 years. The film follows the journey in
chronological order and slowly builds excitement and suspense. It begins with training camp and
shows how the team is chosen. From there, it unfolds to reveal key parts of the pre Olympic games.
Finally, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

good sister and this always stop me from what I really want to do in my heart. It upsets me
because role model has become a burden for me to do something I really like. For example, I
would like to learn street dance but my mother rejected it with not to affect adversely on my

People questioned why I can stand on the stage because they think I am not qualified for that. I

A Synthesis and Response of Two Articles Concerning...
Modern concerns about global warming have rekindled ideas about nuclear power in the United
States but one concern still remains: what is to be done with the waste? Right now most spent
nuclear fuel is stored in large casks at the plants where it was used with plans in the works for a
common location to store the waste for long periods of time. Long term storage is not the only
option, technology exists to take this spent nuclear fueland remove the unused plutoniumand
uranium from the waste products to create more fuel. The remaining waste would be stored in a
long term facility as discussed above. This process is highly controversial due to economic and
safety concerns, but could increase the capacity of a long term storage facility.... Show more content

Bastin also acknowledges the potential for large amounts of plutonium to fall into the wrong
hands, but asserts that if a reprocessing plant is well managed, unlike plants of the past, the
security of the nuclear material is not a difficult issue to control. On the subject of exposure,
Bastin uses the example of the first reprocessing plant built for the United States government by
DuPont. This design was built to contain all reprocessing equipment and materials in order to
limit radiation exposure to employees. The main disagreement between the two authors lies in
the economics of the reprocessing of spent fuel. In his article, Bastin discusses a reprocessing
facility that would have been built in the early 1980s by DuPont that was based on the initial
success of the pilot plant built for the U.S. Government. Using the outline of these successes,
Bastin estimates that the cost of reprocessing at such a plant would cost $250 per kilogram of
waste, as opposed to $1,000 per kilogram at French and British plants or even the $5,000 to
$15,000 per kilogram at similar Japanese facilities. Bastin claims that the foreign reprocessing
plants did not implement the ideas of DuPont s original plant in their design which would have
significantly lowered the cost of reprocessing. The biggest economic cost, according to Bastin,
comes from not reprocessing fuel, mainly because the reprocessing of fuel allows for waste to
remain radioactive for a shorter period

Americanah Writing Style
Summer Writing Assignment

Americanah Writing Style
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author of the National Bestseller Americanah has a very descriptive,
personal writing style. The writing style is very unique, even though it isn t written in first person
you feel very close to the main character as if they re the one who s telling the story. The writer
uses imagery to make you feel as if you are in the setting that is being described. The tone of the
writing is honest, sensitive and innocent. She tells her thoughts and struggles of being an African in
america and what it means to be black for the first time. Throughout the whole book the author
manages to keep an innocent tone of writing. Starting with Ifemelu s ... Show more content on

The author uses diction and descriptive writing to share all her thoughts and observations on
people. She has always been very observant person, that is why she is always able to spot
differences between American people and the people of her hometown in Lagos. The man
standing closest to her was eating an ice cream cone; she had always found it a little
irresponsible, the eating of ice cream cones by grown up American men, especially the eating of
ice cream cones by grown up American men in public. ... The graying hair on the back of his
head was swept forward, a comical arrangement to disguise his bald spot. He had to be an
academic, but not in the humanities or he would be more self conscious. A firm science like
chemistry, maybe. Before, she would have said, I know, that peculiar American expression that
professed agreement rather than knowledge, and then she would have started a conversation with
him, Her observations are descriptive and relatable, they are also thought provoking. The writer
often points out small details most people wouldn t notice. The Author s writing structure can be
described as speedy, as she often jumps from one childhood memory or event

Investigating Flat Planes
Turns out there is a fairly straight forward way to prove conclusively that we do not live on a flat
plane. Simply pick a line of longitude (along which everyone will experience high noon at the
same time, doesn t have to be one perfect line of latitude but each person should measure at high
noon on the same day) and measure the length of the suns shadow at several points of latitude from
directly under the sun to as far North as you can (must have at least one measurement that is above
75В°).
Requirements For Experiment
All the sticks should, of course, be very close to exactly the same length (recommend 2 to 5
meters). I used 5 meters in my example, taller is better.
The sticks should be placed absolutely plumb (straight up and down). They cannot lean in any
direction.
The terrain upon which the shadow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can try it out using the PlanetCalc Shadow Length calculator
And now all you have to do is personally verify that this calculator gives you fairly accurate results
for the shadow lengths (I have) and you can be certain that the plane of the Earth simply cannot be
flat.
ON A FLAT PLANE
Now let s compare the expected values above with those on a flat plane, which turns out to be
trivial mathematically we don t even need a calculator. We just need to calculate the following:
slope = (distance to sun / distance to stick) length of shadow = (height of stick / slope)
To get this formula we just have to think about two right triangles, using the slope of the first one to
figure out the length of the adjacent side of the second one (height/slope).
Our first right triangle is the one from a point directly under the sun at the top of our stick, over
to our next stick, say at 10В° latitude, which is 1109472m for every 10В°s latitude and then up to
the sun, finally back down to where we started. Let s assume the sun is ~4000 miles away or

Benefits of Cloning Essay
Benefits of Cloning
What if while walking down the street you encountered someone who looked exactly like you?
Would you stare in amazement or would your heart be filled with fear? At first some people may
look upon the idea of cloning with disgust and question themselves if humans should play God
while others would be interested and study the many possibilities that cloning offers. This illustrates
the path that cloning has taken over the latter part of the twentieth century. At first, when cloning
was brought up in conversations, people tended to fearfully think of an army of identical persons
marching across the earth in hopes of ruling humans. This and many other absurd notions of clones
stem from science fiction movies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since then people think that biologists are cloning both human and other mammal s embryos only
to see how far they can push the scientific envelope, but in fact there are many legitimate reasons
for investigating cloning. Embryologists believe that research into cloning could help improve the
life of future generations. Cancer research is possibly the most important reason for embryo cloning
they argue. Oncologists believe that embryonic study will advance understanding of the rapid cell
growth of cancer. Cancer cells develop at approximately the same phenomenal speed as embryonic
cells do. By studying the embryonic cell growth, scientists may be able to determine how to stop
rapid cell division, and also stop cancer growth in turn (Hyde 15). Another important area of
embryo cloning research is embryonic stem cell development. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells
that can develop into almost any type of cell in the body. These cells are not attacked by a person s
immune system, because of their fast development and undifferentiated status (Wilmut 4). Many
doctors believe that these stem cells could be used in treatments for brain and nervous system
damage.
Perhaps a more questionable use of cloned embryos is for spare parts and hormones. Production of
transgenic farm animals to make organs to transplant in humans with organ failure has been heavily
researched. Companies

Chamber And Choir Music Analysis
What are the most obvious themes in Chamber and Choir music? The concert I went to was a
concert by the students from CGCC. They started of the concert with Jazz music, but I was
unable to take notes on that because they were not exactly singing. It was more like an a capella
except without any words. The next portion of the concert was Chamber Singers. I was not very
sure what a Chamber Singer was so I looked it up. Before I looked it up, it seemed to me like it
was a medium sized choirwho quickly switch tempo and feature different solos. When I looked it
up, it said that Chamber Singer was a group of 8 40 singers who sing religious or classical songs.
The second part was like the choir my class does, except more complicated and more professional. I
noticed that, although it was two different types of singing, they all had one thing in common,
which was that they all had some kind of form to send emotion to the audience to make them feel
a certain mood. The pacing of the song along with the diverse sections gives out emotion. The two
emotions that where most obvious in all songs where the common emotions of sadness and
happiness. The first and third song I listened to where both from the Chamber Singers and they
both gave a happy cheerful mood. The first one was Achieved is The Glorious Work by Joseph
Haydnand the third one was No Time by Susan Brumfield. They both gave out this happy vibe by
having the different sections sing at unique pace and being very

A Brief Report On Colgan Flight 3407 Essay
February 12th, 2009. A sad day it was in the United States, mostly in the eastern section of the
great land. Colgan flight 3407 was set for departure from Newark, New Jersey set to land in
Buffalo, New York. Traffic was significant enough to illuminate plenty of people travelling to
Buffalo and back as a total of 110 recorded flights from different carriers were incoming and going
between the two locations. In which seven Continental flights were bound for the Newark Liberty
International Airportfrom Buffalo Niagra International Airport on the same day. Little did the
passengers and crew members know that Flight 3407 was special. As the plane was approaching
the New York area, the cockpit crew observed ice accumulation on the aircraft s wings. This was
an indication of the flight operating in a low temperature area and may have been the cause of
the crash. The accumulation of ice on the wing adds weight to the air bone body and thus,
reduces the lift. Additionally, it also changes the shape of the wing, and this shape is what gives
the lift. During the investigation held by the National Transportation Safety Board, the Cockpit
Voice Recorder (CVR) was examined and found out that the crew did not recheck if the de ice
system installed in the aircraft was operational or not. This was critical due to the fact that the ice
buildup was a mere 6 minutes before the plane crashed. The Flight Data Recorder was brought into
account, it stated that the de ice system was set in the

Brief Summary Of Benjamin Franklin s Life
Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706. He was the tenth son of a soap maker, Josiah
Franklin. Benjamin s mother was Abiah Folger, she was the second wife of Josiah. Josiah would
be the father of 17 children. At Josiah had intended to have Benjamin enter the clergy. But,
Josiah could only afford to send Benjamin to clergy school for one year, and clergymen needed
years of training. Benjamin loved to read at his young age, Josiah put Benjamin as a apprentice
under his brother James, who was a printer. Benjamin helped James compose pamphlets, which
was hard work Benjamin, who at this time was 12 years old then went off to sell the products in

  • 2. Essay on Cycles of Violence in The Battler Cycles of Violence in The Battler Ernest Hemingway s The Battler provides a continued account of Nick Adams dangerous and violent life. Previous stories compiled in The Short Stories edition of Hemingway s work documents some of the tribulations of Nick Adams, one of Hemingway s protagonists. Apparently, Nick has been plagued by moments of sheer humility, terror, and immutable violence. In the Hemingway short story Indian Camp, Nick is a young boy who witnesses a dreadfully difficult birth by a Native American woman, enduring all the while the hubris of his surgeon father, who is contestibly insensitive to Nick s innocence. Once the birth has ended, the husband of the woman is found with a freshly slit throat, again ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 130) His state of affairs does not improve, however. (p. 130) Not a typical response, but Nick is about to learn he is not in a set of typical circumstances. Ad Francis face is described queerly formed and mutilated...putty in color, with a sunken nose, slitted eyes and with only one ear. (p. 131) Clearly, the implication is that Ad Francis has seen some beatings in his day. This is confirmed by the man himself: They all bust their hands on me...they couldn t hurt me. (p. 132) The extreme physical toll taken by Ad has affected him mentally. Listen, he tells Nick, I m not quite right. (p. 132) Like Nick, Ad is a man who has encountered violence and humiliation all of his life. Countless blows have found their mark on his now deformed face. In a way, Ad is a physical representation of Nick s fortitude and perserverance, a fellow sufferer whose pain has surfaced in a more tangible way, who takes immediate notice of things like black eyes. Soon after Nick s introduction to Ad, another man approaches the fire. Nick is introduced to Bugs as Ad s pal...he s crazy too. (p. 133) Physically, Bugs is a stark contrast to Ad s figure: tall, black, low voiced and calm. Bugs begins to cook a dinner of ham and eggs over the campfire that the ... Choose two images, one from the genre of documentary and one from advertising, and explain the process of encoding and decoding to explain these three positions the viewer may take when decoding your chosen images. Stuart Hall s text, Encoding, Decoding identifies three positions one can take in decoding an image. These three positions are dominant, negotiated and oppositional. They identify that there are high risks with eating McDonalds. The viewer will then modify and adapt the codes within the documentary to reflect on their own position, experiences and interests. These positions can be of acknowledgement that McDonalds is bad but it s not bad for everyone and that some people s bodies can handle the intake of such a diet. Other modifications could be that if they ate fast food every day that they would love it and would believe that they would be ok. They would acknowledge that yes McDonalds is not good for one s health but it s not the only cause that made him so sick. They believe that yes eating it was shown to be harmful to the body but that it will not happen to them because their body is in good shape. The decoder with the oppositional position will understand the connotative message of the image full well but is in a direct oppositional relation to the dominant signifiers and therefore decodes the message in a contrary way (Hall). • 7. Analyse The Importance Of Being Earnest Satire Essay The play, The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde was written during the Victorian Era, characterized for its moral values. Throughout the play, Wilde used satire as comical relief to show his deviance from the social order by making ridiculous the ideas of standards, morals and manners. Oscar Wilde criticizes the superficiality of Victorian marriage and courtship through the character Lady Bracknell and the name Earnest. Lady Bracknell is presented by Wilde as the true definition of a satirical character. She uses satirical comments to show her disinterest in Jack, the character that would like to marry her daughter Gwendolen. Satire is expressed through the lines in which Lady Bracknell says, However, I am quite ready to enter your name, should your answers be what a really affectionate ... As the reader, it is anticipated that Lady Bracknell will begin asking a series of difficult questions, but instead she voices a more straightforward question. During the Victorian Era, the mothers had a certain criteria that they wanted their daughter s courter to be compliant with. Wilde created the element of satire by basically mocking interview questions that could have possibly been asked during the Victorian Era. Along with having a specific criteria, financial stability was extremely important to people during the Victorian Era. This aspect of society is mocked by Wilde when Lady Bracknell states, A hundred and thirty thousand pounds! And in the funds! Miss Cardew seems to me a most attractive young lady now that I look at her. (Wilde 77) In the lines prior to this one, Lady Bracknell is showing her detest towards Cecily until she asks about the money she has and her financial stability. • 8. A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O’Connor Essay In the short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find, written by Flannery O Connor, the theme that the definition of a good man is mysterious and flawed is apparent. The reader must realize that it is difficult to universalize the definition of a good man because every person goes through different experiences. Thus, these experiences affect his or her viewpoint and in turn flaw ones view on a good man. O Connor conveys this theme through her excellent use of diction, imagery, foreshadowing, and symbolism as well as through a creative use of repetition and an omniscient point of view. The grandmother, the main character of the story, is manipulative. Her definition of a good man refers to the characteristics that a good man should possess.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She [the grandmother] pointed out interesting details of the scenery: Stone Mountain, the blue granite that in some places came up to both sides of the highway; the brilliant red clay banks slightly streaked with purple; and the various crops that made row of green lace work on the ground. The trees were full of silver white sunlight and the meanest of them sparkled. (1286) She uses informal diction to help achieve the targeted theme and her slight use of a southern dialect is one brilliant component that helps her to do so. For example, when the family stops for barbecue sandwiches along their way to Tennessee, the owner s wife compliments the granddaughter. Ain t she cute? Red Sam s wife said, leaning over the counter. Would you like to come be my little girl? (1287). Adding this southern twist of diction as well as the southern setting helps to illustrate the culture the grandmother was raised in. This helps to bridge the gap between what the reader s definition of a good man may be, based off of their cultural upbringing, and the grandmother s definition of a good man. This gap reinforces the O Conner s idea that there cannot be a universal definition of a good man. Imagery is used flawlessly in this short story. O Connor uses descriptive adjectives fairly often to paint a picture in the reader s mind and to add spice to her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Schlesinger Jr., asked some of the top historians in the country to rank each president in the categories Great, Near Great, Average, Below Average, and Failure based on their time in the White House (Schlesinger Jr. 179). The official ranking lists Andrew Jacksonas the fifth best presidentoverall, which landed him a comfortable spot in the Near Great category. Andrew Jackson s presidency belongs in a much lower category due to his immoral character, unilateral decision making, and his unimpressive presidency relative to that of other presidents. Before expanding on the specifics of why Andrew Jackson does not belong in the Near Great category, the criteria that Andrew Jackson along with other presidents will be analyzed against needs to be outlined. First, the qualifications of each president are of the utmost importance when determining presidential greatness. The qualifications of the president are delineated in Article II of the U.S. Constitution. The president s established qualifications outlined in Article II are as follows: to be eligible, one must be a natural born citizen of the United States, must have lived in the United States for at least 14 years, and must be at least 35 years of age (Cornell). Ties between the country of origin and the country of asylum, national security and current event are some of the factors that cause governments to enact laws for political reasons. As a result, countries will use certain criteria to accept different flows of refuges that will foster a policy of discrimination. Policies enacted for political reasons do not always reflect the social climate of the country, but more times than not the social factors and the political factors are aligned with the same ideologies. Using the country of origin in the evaluation process is the most conventional method of identifying ties between countries of origin and the country of asylum, acknowledge national security threats as well as deal with current events. Every application process requires applicants to state their country of origin. Close political links between the governments of a country of possible asylum and the country of origin make people afraid to ask for asylum in the relevant country of destination (Havinga and Bocker, 1999). Applicants know that the friendship between the two countries is bound to result in a denial of asylum. The country of asylum would not want to embarrass the country of origin. Transfer Pricing--Market-Based vs. Cost-Based Introduction Transfer pricing is one of the key factors of a management control system, which helps a company to achieve its goals, including profit maximization and tax minimization. There are several methods of setting transfer prices among profit centers within the same organization. Each profit center tries to set transfer prices which maximize their own profit. The buying and selling profit centers profits are largely affected by transfer prices. The company should consider whether the transfer pricing method has simplicity and transparency, which provide objective performance measurements for division managers. With regard to simplicity and transparency, it is best for the company to set market based transfer pricing because this is more objective than cost based transfer pricing. In particular, when companies use cost based transfer pricing, it is difficult to evaluate division performance unless the transfer prices exceed full costs. Generally, a company can save more money and effort through internal sales compared with external sales, due to the absence of customer credit checking or collecting. In addition, market based transfer prices contribute to the evaluation of the economic viability and profitability of profit centers individually. Market based transfer pricing portrays the real market supply and demand more clearly because, when supply exceeds demand, market prices may decrease, so market based transfer prices decrease as well. However, market based transfer pricing has several disadvantages. You cannot use the market based transfer pricing method when there is no market price in the market. For example, when the selling division makes specially customized products for the buying division, you cannot get a market price for the products. • 14. Defining Zero-Based Budgeting ZERO BASED BUDGETING What is Zero Based Budgeting? Zero based budgeting is an innovative approach towards budgeting in corporations that is based on the framing of assumptions about costs and benefits each time the budget is prepared. A budget is a plan for the allocation of financial resources by an organization. Organizations possess finite financial resources that managers allocate among various projects with the expectation that the utilization of financial resources during the operation of these projects will enable the organization to earn a targeted level of revenues or profits. Like every plan, the budget is based on some assumptions about what the costs and revenues will be affected by, and what the magnitude of these effects will be. These assumptions may change each time a budget is made and thus may need to be incorporated in the new budget. As opposed to the conventional form of budgeting which will be discussed later in this paper, zero based budgeting does not assume that the assumptions made at the time of the last budget are still valid in the present context. Therefore, the assumptions have to be developed again and justified before senior management in order to win approval for the allocation of financial resources planned in the budget (Prokopenko, 1987). In revising the assumptions afresh, in zero based budgeting, the planner does not base his or her estimates for the next year on the basis of the figures of the previous year. When allowed to range freely, particularly in organically maintained yards and pastures, they receive more exercise, their diet is more varied and they are exposed to commensal bacteria that help exclude, and build resistance to, harmful pathogens. The huge amounts of manure that the industrial livestock farms produce also represent a human health risk. In the Cape Fear region of North Carolina, for example, factory hog farms produce ten million metric tonnes of waste annually, equal to that produced by forty million people. When heavy rains hit in 1999, numerous lagoons containing the manure burst. In one case, two million gallons of hog waste spilled when a lagoon ruptured at a farm that raises hogs for a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, the largest pork producer in the United States. Such manure spills were one reason the storm left 400,000 wells in North Carolina contaminated. Health officials expressed concern that an outbreak of gastrointestinal and other diseases, such as pathogenic E. coli, might be caused by contaminated drinking water. • 25. Taxing Multinational Corporations, U.s. And Foreign... While taxing multinational corporations, the U.S. and other foreign governments have faced many problems. Treaties and laws were set up to avoid double taxation for these multinational corporations but instead of avoiding double taxation it delineated a way for tax avoidance. With the old laws, these multinational corporations were allowed to take a taxadvantage. They were allowed to move their business revenues, which permitted them to go into a lower tax bracket and be taxed at a tax haven . This allowed them to claim less tax and be more profitable. For example, foreign owned corporations pay less tax if operating in the U.S. rather than elsewhere and vice versa. This creates a tax advantage for these corporations because these companies try to transfer their prices. Their attempt is to shift income away from the U.S. and deduct expenses toward the U.S. This would create a lower taxable income for those companies that are foreign owned. Though this was not the intention of the IRS. The IRS hoped to avoid double taxation for these multinational corporations, because then they would have to pay tax in the country they are subsiding and the country they are doing business in. However, it is important to note that the IRS has tried to analyze almost every transaction of multinational companies in order to see if these related party transactions are in arm s length or not. The select few that stand out are because of the memories I ve made there, they are the ones I will never forget. Each beach has its unique value to itself and to me. The one thing all beaches have in common is they are filled with an obscene amount of people, but hold the most memories. Throughout the years, the beach has taught me some lessons of independence, which I will be able to use in the future. Overall, the beach is best spent with friends and family enjoying the water and its transition of a hectic day time to a peaceful nighttime. Day, time, temperature, and even the people who I m with all play an important role in determining how the day at the beach will go. During the day, the smell of sunscreen overcomes the salty air as the sun intensifies, the seagulls screech louder as they look for food, and the waves crash faster. The waves also help set the tone for a day at the beach. With strong waves rolling through its just a matter of time before you get pulled under and turned upside down. These are the moments that fill me with panic, not knowing which way is up and when I ll turn back to the surface. The adrenaline rush of being in the ocean, jumping over and diving under the waves is the best feeling. Strong, fast waves are always the best, but unfortunately there are weak waves too. • 29. Article Titled Personal Critical Reaction to the Case for... Part 1 Personal Critical Reaction Conspiracy to commit murder is one of the most difficult things to prove without a reasonable doubt and because the prosecution was aware that the case for murder against the former Sheriff, Dorsey was based upon a conspiracy charge the course of action for the prosecution was relatively clear. They had to somehow convince a jury that Dorsey had recruited the four other men, Patrick Cuffy, Paul Skyers, Melvin Walker and David Ramsey with the express intent of killing Derwin Brown. The reason that these types of murder charges are fundamentally difficult to prosecute lies in the fact that if the recruiter/master mind behind the event is ultimately successful on the first attempt to obtain an assassin, there rarely anyone, other than the actual killer(s) to testify that the mastermind in fact ordered and also likely made some sort of compensation for the act on the part of the assassin(s). In this case the prosecution proved to this jury using the testimony of, Patrick Cuffy, Paul Skyers, two of the admitted assassins, on immunity deals to provide evidence against Dorsey. The ethical dilemma is then the immunity deals offered to Cuffy and Skyers. The dilemma is fascinating as these sorts of immunity deals, in the case of murder are relatively rare, as most people feel that the actual doer of the crime, is as guilty or more guilty than the mastermind behind it, as that individual(s) has the ultimate decision making as to whether the crime ... Many people are aware of the astonishing feat of the 1980 USA Olympic Men s Hockey team, who were huge underdogs in their bid to win the gold medal against the powerhouse USSR. The movie Miracle , directed by Gavin O Connor, is the dramatic journey taken by this team, from the anxiety filled tryouts in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to the exhilarating game against the USSR in Lake Placid, New York. The book, The Boys of Winter written by Wayne Coffey, is based on the same events, but takes a less emotional, more factual approach to the subject. The purpose of this essay is to compare these two resources, and to discuss how they differ in tone, style, and theme. In reviewing these two sources, what is most striking is that the voyage the 1980 USA Olympic Men s hockey team takes is portrayed very differently in the movie than in the book. The tone and pacing of the movie is much quicker. For example, the movie only covers about two years in time while the book, in comparison, covers almost 50 years. • 39. A Synthesis and Response of Two Articles Concerning... Modern concerns about global warming have rekindled ideas about nuclear power in the United States but one concern still remains: what is to be done with the waste? Right now most spent nuclear fuel is stored in large casks at the plants where it was used with plans in the works for a common location to store the waste for long periods of time. Long term storage is not the only option, technology exists to take this spent nuclear fueland remove the unused plutoniumand uranium from the waste products to create more fuel. The remaining waste would be stored in a long term facility as discussed above. This process is highly controversial due to economic and safety concerns, but could increase the capacity of a long term storage facility.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bastin also acknowledges the potential for large amounts of plutonium to fall into the wrong hands, but asserts that if a reprocessing plant is well managed, unlike plants of the past, the security of the nuclear material is not a difficult issue to control. On the subject of exposure, Bastin uses the example of the first reprocessing plant built for the United States government by DuPont. This design was built to contain all reprocessing equipment and materials in order to limit radiation exposure to employees. The main disagreement between the two authors lies in the economics of the reprocessing of spent fuel. In his article, Bastin discusses a reprocessing facility that would have been built in the early 1980s by DuPont that was based on the initial success of the pilot plant built for the U.S. Government. Using the outline of these successes, Bastin estimates that the cost of reprocessing at such a plant would cost $250 per kilogram of waste, as opposed to $1,000 per kilogram at French and British plants or even the $5,000 to $15,000 per kilogram at similar Japanese facilities. Bastin claims that the foreign reprocessing plants did not implement the ideas of DuPont s original plant in their design which would have significantly lowered the cost of reprocessing. The biggest economic cost, according to Bastin, comes from not reprocessing fuel, mainly because the reprocessing of fuel allows for waste to remain radioactive for a shorter period ... • 44. Investigating Flat Planes Turns out there is a fairly straight forward way to prove conclusively that we do not live on a flat plane. Simply pick a line of longitude (along which everyone will experience high noon at the same time, doesn t have to be one perfect line of latitude but each person should measure at high noon on the same day) and measure the length of the suns shadow at several points of latitude from directly under the sun to as far North as you can (must have at least one measurement that is above 75В°). Requirements For Experiment All the sticks should, of course, be very close to exactly the same length (recommend 2 to 5 meters). I used 5 meters in my example, taller is better. The sticks should be placed absolutely plumb (straight up and down). They cannot lean in any direction. The terrain upon which the shadow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You can try it out using the PlanetCalc Shadow Length calculator And now all you have to do is personally verify that this calculator gives you fairly accurate results for the shadow lengths (I have) and you can be certain that the plane of the Earth simply cannot be flat. ON A FLAT PLANE Now let s compare the expected values above with those on a flat plane, which turns out to be trivial mathematically we don t even need a calculator. We just need to calculate the following: slope = (distance to sun / distance to stick) length of shadow = (height of stick / slope) To get this formula we just have to think about two right triangles, using the slope of the first one to figure out the length of the adjacent side of the second one (height/slope). Our first right triangle is the one from a point directly under the sun at the top of our stick, over to our next stick, say at 10В° latitude, which is 1109472m for every 10В°s latitude and then up to the sun, finally back down to where we started. Let s assume the sun is ~4000 miles away or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Benefits of Cloning Essay Benefits of Cloning What if while walking down the street you encountered someone who looked exactly like you? Would you stare in amazement or would your heart be filled with fear? At first some people may look upon the idea of cloning with disgust and question themselves if humans should play God while others would be interested and study the many possibilities that cloning offers. This illustrates the path that cloning has taken over the latter part of the twentieth century. At first, when cloning was brought up in conversations, people tended to fearfully think of an army of identical persons marching across the earth in hopes of ruling humans. This and many other absurd notions of clones stem from science fiction movies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since then people think that biologists are cloning both human and other mammal s embryos only to see how far they can push the scientific envelope, but in fact there are many legitimate reasons for investigating cloning. Embryologists believe that research into cloning could help improve the life of future generations. Cancer research is possibly the most important reason for embryo cloning they argue. Oncologists believe that embryonic study will advance understanding of the rapid cell growth of cancer. Cancer cells develop at approximately the same phenomenal speed as embryonic cells do. By studying the embryonic cell growth, scientists may be able to determine how to stop rapid cell division, and also stop cancer growth in turn (Hyde 15). Another important area of embryo cloning research is embryonic stem cell development. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that can develop into almost any type of cell in the body. These cells are not attacked by a person s immune system, because of their fast development and undifferentiated status (Wilmut 4). Many doctors believe that these stem cells could be used in treatments for brain and nervous system damage. Perhaps a more questionable use of cloned embryos is for spare parts and hormones. Production of transgenic farm animals to make organs to transplant in humans with organ failure has been heavily researched. Companies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Chamber And Choir Music Analysis What are the most obvious themes in Chamber and Choir music? The concert I went to was a concert by the students from CGCC. They started of the concert with Jazz music, but I was unable to take notes on that because they were not exactly singing. It was more like an a capella except without any words. The next portion of the concert was Chamber Singers. I was not very sure what a Chamber Singer was so I looked it up. Before I looked it up, it seemed to me like it was a medium sized choirwho quickly switch tempo and feature different solos. When I looked it up, it said that Chamber Singer was a group of 8 40 singers who sing religious or classical songs. The second part was like the choir my class does, except more complicated and more professional. I noticed that, although it was two different types of singing, they all had one thing in common, which was that they all had some kind of form to send emotion to the audience to make them feel a certain mood. The pacing of the song along with the diverse sections gives out emotion. The two emotions that where most obvious in all songs where the common emotions of sadness and happiness. The first and third song I listened to where both from the Chamber Singers and they both gave a happy cheerful mood. The first one was Achieved is The Glorious Work by Joseph Haydnand the third one was No Time by Susan Brumfield. They both gave out this happy vibe by having the different sections sing at unique pace and being very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. A Brief Report On Colgan Flight 3407 Essay February 12th, 2009. A sad day it was in the United States, mostly in the eastern section of the great land. Colgan flight 3407 was set for departure from Newark, New Jersey set to land in Buffalo, New York. Traffic was significant enough to illuminate plenty of people travelling to Buffalo and back as a total of 110 recorded flights from different carriers were incoming and going between the two locations. In which seven Continental flights were bound for the Newark Liberty International Airportfrom Buffalo Niagra International Airport on the same day. Little did the passengers and crew members know that Flight 3407 was special. As the plane was approaching the New York area, the cockpit crew observed ice accumulation on the aircraft s wings. This was an indication of the flight operating in a low temperature area and may have been the cause of the crash. The accumulation of ice on the wing adds weight to the air bone body and thus, reduces the lift. Additionally, it also changes the shape of the wing, and this shape is what gives the lift. During the investigation held by the National Transportation Safety Board, the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) was examined and found out that the crew did not recheck if the de ice system installed in the aircraft was operational or not. This was critical due to the fact that the ice buildup was a mere 6 minutes before the plane crashed. The Flight Data Recorder was brought into account, it stated that the de ice system was set in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
