Research Paper On American Street Craftsman
Is it true? Can some pictures really be worth a thousand words? I think so. As a matter of fact,
looking at this one, I think some can be worth five pages. But who creates those pictures, and what
message are they trying to send? I can answer that for you. American street craftsman, Banksy is
scandalous for creating exceedingly disputable pictures that defy societal and political issues.
Demonstrated all throughout his works, Banksy does not make it clear what message his art actually
gives off. Instead, he leaves it up to the onlookers' own perception to decipher the true meaning
behind the image. Most of his art uses no words, by that, it is through the investigation of semiotics
that we can contrast between the meaning and the undertone of his works (Bal). For most of his
artworks', its not hard to seize the idea behind them. Some of their meanings are unmistakable and
give a clear indication of what message is being perceived. In fact I have the perfect example. ...

Analysis Of Sears Holding Company ( Shld )
Introduction Sears Holding Company (SHLD) was once a very successful organization. Prior to the
1980's, SHLD managed to generate revenue and compete among the top retailers in America (Kim,
2014). However, in more recent years, SHLD has become subject to scrutiny among industry's
critics. As of late, SHLD has made several attempts to revive their organization. These attempts
involve SHLD implementing corporate, business and functional leveled strategies within their
organization. Corporate Level Strategies Every organization needs to create corporate level
strategies. Corporate level strategies help organizations create plans and methods that will allow
them to grow, no matter how the economy changes (Latham, 2014). SHLD used two different
corporate level strategies to help them increase revenue and cut costs. The first corporate strategy
used by SHLD is horizontal integration mergers. This strategy involved SHLD merging with K–
Mart. K–mart decided to merge with Sears in 2004, in hopes that both stores can gain an competitive
advantage over rival retail giants. Both SHLD and K–Mart thought that they would be better suited
to compete against Lowes and Home Depot; this is due to their potential inventory increase and
availability from the merger. While merging seemed to open doors for both SHLD and K–Mart,
there was still a need for retrenchment. Retrenchment was used by SHLD once the merger as
complete, this involved store closures and laying off employees at various Sears

Sears Corporate Social Responsibility
As Sears Holdings has continued to grow so rapidly there has been some down falls within the
company, this is not to say that due to the downfalls they cannot have a stronger rising. As the down
size to help increase their profits once again, it is seen to be helpful that they have such a great
business ethics as their backbone. Being able to rely on the knowledge of creating such a huge
corporation should help Sears Holdings to regrow even stronger after a downsize. The course of
actions Sears Holdings interprets from the triple bottom line is what is making it possible to regrow
not only financially but also sustainably. Sears Corporation, was founded in 1886 by Richard W.

The relationship between the four individual sections all seem to have some type of tie in with one

seem to be that they coincide with one another, they both rely on each other to be able to function.
Without the law the ethics wouldn't work and without ethics the laws placed within the company
wouldn't function properly. Sears Holdings were awarded the "2015 Better Business Bureau's Torch
Award for Ethics in the Marketplace for Chicago and Northern Illinois" (Corporate Responsibility &

Sears Roebuck and Company was established in 1893 by Richard W. Sears and Alvah C. Roebuck.
The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corporation (SHLD) that has been

corporation employs 89,000 people in the United States and U.S. territories in approximately 547
full–line Sears stores. (Sears, 2017)

Sears Mission Statement
Problem or Need
Prior the 1980's, Sears Holding Corporation (SHLD) managed to generate revenue and compete
among the top retailers in America (Kim, 2014). SHLD's current financial status reveals that they
are failing to maintain profitability. Having worked with SHLD for over two years, I have noticed a
slow decline in profits. The main reasons for SHLD mishaps are due to a lack of a satisfactory
mission statement (Sears Holding Corp, 2014), increased competition, insufficient marketing tools
and lack of bargaining power. All of these elements play a part in SHLD loss of profits.

SHLD profitability problem goes beyond person opinion and first–hand experience. The level of

Although SHLD is attempting to cut costs and capitalize off of their newly appointed loyalty
program, the company continues to manufacture quarterly losses (Sharf, 2014). Their lack of
profitability stems from an inadequate mission statement, increased competition, inadequate
marketing and lack of bargaining power. However, all of these aspects can be fixed to ensure that
SHLD becomes profitable again. This is why research needs to be completed. I need to research
ways combat competition, revitalize their marketing approach and increase their bargaining power.
Furthermore, I need to ensure that SHLD's modified mission statement provides guidelines for the
entire organization to follow. Once all of these aspects of SHLD are fixed, I will present my results
to my General Manager of SHLD eastern region. Prior to presenting a formal report to my General
Manager, I plan to excavate information from sources as follows: Wall Street Journal, Forbes, ABC

John Craftsman Case
Injuries from an accident happen all the time and can happen to anyone. Questions arise from
workplace accidents involving injuries. Number one issue in this incident is to determine could this
accident/injury been prevented. A thorough analysis needs to be completed. John Craftsman, a
company employee, has been severely injured on his hand when pushing a large piece of wood
through a table saw in the production shop. Therefore, John claims that he followed the procedures
when working, and the company is legible for his injuries. According to him, the machine had no
guarantee of keeping the employee safe when working. As for the company's shop manager, David
Waffler, he claims that the machine was in a safe condition since he was not ... Show more content

Harry further claims that he saw John with his co–workers laughing and goofing which could have
led to the accident. Therefore, the blame game between the employee, foreman and the manager
tends to be the resultant factor of this problem. Analysis of the Information For that reason, it would
be appropriate if I could develop some vital questions that would support me in trying to analyze
and address such an issue. First, should John claim that the company is liable for his injuries? If so
what appropriate measures should he had taken? Also, if the company is responsible what should
they do to John? On the other side what should be done to John if it is known that the business is not
liable for the injuries? As the foreman stated that the machine was in a perfect condition who should
be blamed if the machine was incapacitated. At the time of trying to analyze and scan the
environment where one can source out relevant information regarding the conflict. I will be looking
at the different evidence produced by the employee's party and the company. For instance, on the
employee side John claims that the business is liable for his injuries because the machine being used
was not in a proper condition for their safety. He receives backup from one of his colleagues that
they had informed Harry the shop foreman concerning the state of the

Economic And Social Aspects Of The Commercial Revolution...
During the Middle Ages, the period from the eleventh to the thirteenth centuries, the European
economy was able to expand. Commercial Revolution was when trade grew and merchants had
developed new business techniques. The modernizing trade in the Commercial Revolution was a
cause for a rebirth of town life. According to Cole, "Urban manufacturing was regulated by
professional associations known as guilds or confraternities." Also, guilds promoted the interests of
the members by trying to defend monopolies and to limit competition. In the late Middle Ages the
cloth trade had become an important site of conflict. The Middle Ages and these conflicts became a
feature of life including famine, plague, war, social, and economic conflicts. The Medieval Guild
System comprised of craft and merchant guilds influencing economic and social aspects of
European life.
During this time the two most common guilds were craftsmen and merchant. Merchant guilds sold
increasing quantities of cloth around Europe and they imported raw wool from England to supply
the cloth–makers in order to handle long–distance and regional trade. The other guild craftsmen was
when weavers or dyers achieved a monopoly in the production of a product. In many places where
the guilds performed independently of one another the craft guilds began to take over the control of
the production from the merchant guilds. The guilds set quality standards for their products,
managed the size of the workshops, the

Sears Canada Essay
Almost everyone has heard about the demise of Sears Canada. The loss of such an established and
renowned retail company caused quite a stir. While many speculated the company hadn't done all it
could to keep up with a changing retail environment, others pointed to those same changes as a
herald of things to come. Of more interest to employers and HR managers, employees, and the
general public alike was the way Sears handled issues such as benefits and pensions for current and
former employees. The Sears Situation Sears announced it was liquidating and closing all retail

As the middle class has been hollowed out in Canada, there were fewer of these shoppers and more
shoppers at either end of the spectrum. Both higher–end shoppers and lower–end shoppers avoided
Sears, for opposite reasons. Other factors were at play, including a dowdy brand image among
younger consumers, a lack of perceived quality, and pricing. Management practices can also be
called into question, particularly when it came to supporting employees who were losing their jobs
and benefits. The Sears Solution Clearly, Sears Canada found it could no longer operate and decided
to wind down its operations. All current Sears employees lost their jobs, in addition to their benefits.
Those former employees who had been receiving pensions from Sears Canada had their pensions cut
off. This move outraged employees, their families, and members of the general public. Making
matters worse, Sears Canada opted to pay large bonuses to executives and upper management. Many
argued those bonuses could have, and should have, been used to support employees as they looked
for new work or to help those who were relying on Sears Canada for their income in retirement or
while on disability. The

Company Analysis: Sears Holding Corporation
Abstract
Sears Holdings Corporation (SHC) is the nation's fourth largest broadline retailer with
approximately 3,900 full–line and specialty retail stores in the United States and Canada. Formed in
the later part of the 19th century it was the largest retail company in the country until the early
nineties. SHC is currently the leading home appliance retailer as well as a leader in tools, lawn and
garden, home electronics and automotive repair and maintenance. As a result of its merger with
Kmart in 2005, SHC also has Martha Stewart Everyday products, which are offered exclusively in

Merger
The merger between Kmart and Sears clearly enhanced both of the companies' mutual progressive
goals. Sears invested many assets in the formation of Sears Grand stores, larger off store malls, and
in the process bought many of the Kmart locations which were going out of business. Therefore the
merger helped this process so that it would enable the further growth of Sears at a quicker pace as
well as enhance the productivity and save the Kmart Corporation. This was clearly a strong decision
made by the executives in combining forces so that the marketability of both companies would
increase. Along with this, the shareholders could make a tremendous profit with this alliance. Prior
to the merger, if the independent companies were not steadily increasing their revenue shareholders
would lose money from their investments. The combination of both of the corporations would
improve shareholder investment returns and thus facilitate the growth of the Sears Holding
Corporation. The more investors receive higher returns, the greater investments into the company
thus fostering its overall growth. The proprietary brands, selling the aforementioned products, under
both companies would be able to reach the target demographic groups with greater ease. The real

Swot Analysis Of Sears
The merger between Sears and Kmart was a very big event in business. At the time both companies
were in the top three in sales along with Walmart. A summarized look of the history and background
of Sears before the merger all started in 1866, When Mr. Richard W. Sears created a watch company
that he named R.W. Sears. This company was in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the watches were only
sold via mail orders. The following year the company decided to settle in Chicago as their first real
location and Mr. Sears hired his first employee named Alvah C. Roebuck, who was a watchmaker.
Then in 1888, the first ever catalog that included Mr. Sears watches and jewelry was established.
One year later Mr. Sears sells this newly started company and starts another company that was
named Sears, Roebuck and Co. A man named Julius Rosenwald, a wealthy clothing line owner,
decided to buy out Mr. Roebucks side of the company. Around the same time ownerships are
switching the first large catalog for the company was published. Then in 1911 Sears then created
their first testing laboratory. By the end of 1913 the company introduces the very popular brand
known as Kenmore. After the launch of this brand the company begins to bring in tons of more
revenue and decides to create a savings and profit sharing funds for Sears employees. But a thing to
remember is that Sears did not actually open a retail store until 1925 that was located a few miles
outside of Chicago. In 1931 Sears went into another

What Makes A Craftsman?
The concept of craftsmanship has been known to us for centuries, however what defines a
Craftsman is less clear. It is commonly understood that a craftsman works with his hands, and that
this work is done to a high standard. We can however clarify what it means to be a craftsman by
understanding the path he takes before he is seen as such.
If we look back to earlier eras we can begin to understand the defining characteristics of
craftsmanship.
The ancients produced solely by craft– that is, without organised industry. (McCullough, 1998)
In ancient times there was no manufacturing, no production lines, every item was crafted by hand by
individuals who had mastered the art of their particular trade. This gives us an insight into the
historical necessity of Craftsmanship, without the development of the requisite skills there would
have been very little production at all.
Malcolm McCullough states that the practise of craft for the purpose of maintaining of livelihood
can be classified as Artisanry (McCullough, 1998). This means that in order for a Craftsman to be
elevated to the realm of an Artisan or Master, he must practice his craft for the purpose of
sustenance, without this purpose, it could be reasonably concluded that his craft is merely a hobby
or pastime.
The Craftsman is considered an authority on his particular craft, he has amassed a large amount of
knowledge and experience, and as such he is able to dictate the outcome of his works.
Craft remains skilled

Diagnosing Change: Six–Box Organizational Model The Six–box Organizational Model is one of
the oldest models developed, by Marvin Weisbord. Weisbord examined two key elements of
organizational life; task and process. There are six variables; purpose, structure, relationship,
rewards, helping mechanism, and leadership (Palmer, 2008). To clearly understand each variable
there will be a brief overview of each variable. (See Figure 1) First, the purpose variable, this is to

These are things that Kmart and Sears had to address. With wanting to change some of the Kmart
stores into Sears due to location, this would fall under structure.
Relationship: this is a huge part of the merger. The relationship of the two leadership's merger
together is very important because if the two companies did not agree they there would be
dysfunction within the company. With defining the leadership right off, differently helped the
relationship of the two companies coming together. It allowed for clear communication with the
employees on who would be in charge and an idea of the direction they were heading for the future.
Rewards: I didn't find much on a rewards or incentives for the merger only that it would rank them
third in retail companies. This may be an area in which the company lacked, and may have pushed
them to the verge of closing now.
Helpful mechanism: I feel that they had a strong direction on with this area for the six–box model,
because they are were much defined on how things were going to be. They had transition for the
headquarters to be in Chicago but also leaving the Kmart headquarters in Troy, MI. It showed that
there would be a support system still in place for the Kmart employees and customers.
Leadership: I really like what Kmart and Sears did with their leadership. I think that they were very
fair on how they placed people. Lampert not becoming the chairmen of Sears Holdings was a

individual that he knew who made himextremely upset, which left him injured. Notwithstanding, he

Book Review on the French Revolution and the People Essay
For my report I read The French Revolution and the People by David Andress to learn what were the
reasons causing the French Revolutionary War. The main thesis of the book is the known problems
and reactions which affected the events and outcomes of the revolution in every stage, now
everyone in France was affected by the revolution. I agree with the author's thesis on many different
levels. Since the multiple troubles the people had at that time did not originate just then but decades
before. As well with constant economic pressure of all the upper classes upon them only worsened
the situation. Since all the troubles and problems of the poor were never looked after, now everyone

seigneurialism did not get rid of feudalism but only changed it for the seigneurs to get more power.
Over time it shifted from feudalism to more of a financial relationship since the lords wanted more

California Craftsman Bungalow
The architecture of a time period may reflect more than just our personal style. The California
craftsman bungalow style house was named this because of its introduction to the United States in
California and abundance in California in the 1900s to the 1930s. Craftsman refers to the style of
house; whereas, bungalow references the features of the house and overall use of the house. The
bungalow originated in India where it was as an alternative to tent living among English colonial
traders and officers. The houses were built from materials that were easily accessible on the site of
construction. California Bungalows are characterized by their built–in cabinetry, large fireplaces,

For example, the San Francisco Call wrote an article in about a widow named Bertha Bossel who
built a bungalow house in Berkley with the help of her son. She had been left a widow a few years
prior to her construction of the bungalow, and the only thing she had to support her and her son was
the cottage that she and her husband had built before his death. She picked up many skills during the
construction of the first cottage, and planned to build the bungalow without outside aid. The author
wrote about how Bertha built the house "heedless of what 'the neighbors' may say." This indicates
that Bertha did not pay attention to what her neighbors or the public thought of her actions, implying
that she did not care what they said about her actions because she continued to construct the house.
The description of her independent attitude is progressive for that time period, empowering women
because Bertha took on a traditionally masculine roles and completed them as if it was in her nature.
However the language the author used to describe her and her actions in the article were patronizing.
The author first introduced Bertha by stating, "with her soft white hands Bertha Bossel, a brave little
woman of Berkeley, has begun the erection of a bungalow on a lot she owns." The act of calling her
brave, suggests that being strong was out of her character because it was not in her prescribed
gender role. Additionally, describing her with soft white hands makes her appear delicate to the
reader. The adjectives the used to describe Bertha fit into traditional gender roles as an act to balance
out the traditionally masculine tasks Bertha fulfilled. For example, the author wrote "with a canvas
apron to protect her from the rough timbers," and "she smiles and tolls as she does it" in order to
describe her

Taking a Look at the Gamble House
The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period
when the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to
engulf the marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant
reduction in quality and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of the
middle class. The problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all
identical and the furniture was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some of
the pioneers who disagreed with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The
Arts and Crafts Movement was the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the
tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with a
creative solution to build a foundation for better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded
stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and other household items.
The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts
Style or the Craftsman style in America. The house and furnishings were built for a very wealthy
couple, David and Mary Gamble of the Proctor & Gamble Company entirely by Charles and Henry
Greene with specific attention to detail and craftsmanship. The brothers were inspired by the
concept of a total work of art, which was the primary focus during the Arts and

Craftsman Figurative Language
The goal of advertising is to garner customers by connecting to the deeply held beliefs of the society
in which it appears. Essentially, advertisements serve as a mirror to the widely accepted stereotypes
that exist in the world. Such is the case with Craftsman's advertisements. The marketing team at
Craftsman focuses on an American masculine stereotype which has often been linked to strength,
independence, and the drive to build. Craftsman has been in business since 1927 and continues to

The Structure Of A Building
Nowadays anything can be considered workmanship. The structure of a building, the human body,
music on the radio, love, Versaci 's new line of winter, and beautiful transvestites strolling down the
road are only a couple of countless cases. That sort of craftsmanship is misrepresented. The greater
part of these exist as a result of society. As individuals develop and change so does the qualities and
customs that they are acclimated to. Genuine workmanship holds tight the dividers of historical
centers everywhere throughout the world. Works of art by Monet, Da Vinci, and Picasso speak to all
that can be made lovely by a man 's touch. The word tattoo originates from the Tahitian word tattau,
which signifies 'to tap, ' and can be followed back through a piece of history. The specialty of tattoos

including sheds, sporting goods, jewelry, and tools. All of these products are competitively priced
and they offer an in–house credit card for major purchases.
History
In 1886, a station agent in Redwood, Minnesota begins to sell watches to supplement his income.
His name was Richard Sears. As the demand for his watches increased he moved and established an
office in Chicago and hired a watchmaker by the name of Alvah Roebuck. In 1888, they launched
the first Sears Catalog which featured only watches and jewelry. In 1883, Sears, Roebuck and Co
became the official corporate name. By 1896 they had expanded their business and launched a
general catalog. Understanding the need to produce quality products, they established the Sears
testing laboratory in 1911. In 1911 Sears launches the Kenmore Brand. As more and more homes
began to get electricity, Sears launches a full line of home appliances under the Kenmore Brand. In
1927, Sears launches the Craftsman tool line. In 1945, Sears' sales exceeded $1 billion dollars. After
much research and development and a million dollar investment, in 1967 Sears launches the Diehard
battery line. These three product lines would become associated with Sears, Roebuck and Company.

Case Study: Guernica By Picasso
THE Story
In the first place search for the account, essentially portray what you see. Who or what is delineated,
what's going on? On the off chance that you see individuals and things, the work of art is allegorical;
on the off chance that you see lines and sprinkles – go for non–non–literal. The name of the artistic
creation may prove to be useful, particularly with regards to Dali.
What is by all accounts more vital for the craftsman – representation or expression? Think about the
sketches in the styles of hyperrealism and expressionism – you can simply tell if the pictures look
admired or explicitly mutilated.
Notice the sentiments you get taking a gander at the artistic creation, the general impression
delivered by the whole painting and its components – later you will burrow further to comprehend
what motivated those feelings. There is a motivation behind why you like one painting more than
the other. Your taste in workmanship is as one of a kind as your taste in sustenance or garments,
roused by your experience, childhood and even proficient mastery.

After finding Sears Holdings Corporation standing on the Fortune's 500 worst companies list, I
decided to do a little research on the Fortune's 500 page to gather some valuable information about
the enterprise. While looking at the information provided on the website, I noticed that Sears
Holdings Corporation previously ranked 99 and the company is now listed at 111 per Fortune's 500.

(Perry, 2011). The purpose of his theory was to have companies be more productive than the
machines used inside of the enterprise. In Sears case, a productive employee would be someone who
not only provides that WOW customer service experience that the company prides itself on, but to
also keep the sales floor looking presentable as well as the fitting rooms. Also, a productive
employee would be someone who not only asks a customer if they are finding everything but
helping satisfy the client's needs before the check–out process. Mayo's theory also states, "Ifs
employees receive particular attention and are encouraged to participate; they perceive their work

is in human relations management which is not the same as human resource management. However,
his argument touched on some of the same basis that Sears human resource department moves on

Since Sears primary sector in the general merchandisers' industry is retail, the company by default is
required to comply with the Retail Law. Retail Law also known as Retail and Consumer Law is the
body of laws related to the sale and advertising of consumer products. (HG Legal Resources, 2016).
The purpose of this law is to protect the rights of consumers and to ensure fair trade competition.

Sears Business Essay
Sears has made several attempts to improve their business, most of which involved selling off assets
and closing stores. Sears has sold off all properties they once owned to Seritage and also sold their
Craftsman tools brand to Stanley Black and Decker. Another strategy Sears has tried to compensate
for their losses is closing stores. Sears has closed around 100 stores and continues to close more. It
was released that Sears is expected to close another 63 stores (45 Kmart and 18 Sears) by the end of

First, Sears needs to find a way to fire their current CEO, Edward Lampert. Based on our research of

$40.00 and the stock price now is the lowest it has been around $3.00 (Yahoo Finance). Decisions

on his own personal interests and not for the good of Sears. Lampert is Sears largest lender and has

loaded with debt. This company is not able to pull through and make profits anymore because their
CEO is not capable of making changes to the company to bring it out of it. He sees that the company

As we can see Sears owns different companies/products within its business. Another strength is that
this company has many employees because it has so many different locations around the U.S. By
having lots of locations you are going to have many employees, which is great. In one article I read I
was able to see some of the weaknesses. As stated, "Sears Holdings spent $5.8 billion buying back
shares from 2005 to 2010, draining the company 's capital. Now, it has a major cash flow problem"
(Rittenhouse, 2017). This shows that this company has to buy back it shares because if it does not
they will lose more money than they are even producing. Another weakness that I read was, "From
allegedly rude employees to poor customer service, even loyal customers have lost trust in the
company" (Rittenhouse, 2017). As we can see they have poor employees and service, which takes
away from the business because people rather not go to a place like that. This becomes a major
threat because when you have other stores like Amazon, Wal–Mart, Costco, where there are all the
same products sold and maybe even at better prices, people are going to want to go to there. These
other major stores definitely attract people because they have low prices and keep up with people's
demands. Wal–Mart is even known to match competitors prices and Amazon usually always offers
free shipping and low prices. When you see other stores that do better you go to them. You choose

Master Craftsmen in the Medieval
"I like crafts that are made out of necessity because they're a little naive – you made it because you
needed it."– Amy Sedaris. Master craftsmen during the Medieval Ages created items needed for the
kingdom to thrive. Craftsmen included candle makers, shoemakers, and farmers, but the most
famous craftsmen were blacksmiths, carpenters, and masons. Every type of craftsmen were in
groups called guilds and every guild needed to cooperate. If one guild failed to meet its needs, then
the whole medieval structure will fail, causing the kingdom to fall.
Carpenters, masons, and blacksmiths were important craftsmen in building castles and villages and
you had to go through apprenticeship for many years before becoming one of the three master
craftsmen. Before becoming a master craftsman, the child started their training at the age of eleven
or twelve and became an apprentice. A child would be able to choose his own profession or follow
the family business. Some craftsmen that a child can become include: carpenters, masons, and
blacksmiths The apprentice would last from five to nine years depending on the trade. He received
no wages and could not marry until he was a journeyman. After finishing apprenticeship, the
apprentice became a journeyman. A journeyman received money for his labour and bought supplies
that he needed. During his own time, he created a "Masterpiece" and later presented it to his group
of craftsmen, or guild, to see if he was ready to be a "Master",

The Craftsman House: A Narrative Fiction
The craftsman house was eerily quiet, except for the occasional moan from the Hefty bag. The quiet
was nice. Marty was glad not to be arguing with his mother, as he had done for the last thirty–nine
years. He had finally acted like the man she had always wanted him to be. He planned to take the
bag outside and place her by the curb for the morning pickup, but for now was satisfied to have her
close at hand. He went to the back door and compulsively checked the lock for the eleventh time,
furtively glancing at the hunter green, plastic trash bag. It could be filled with chicken bones or
garden leaves or old newspapers, but instead it was filled with mom. It gave Marty a comforting

"Hey, Ma, can I borrow some money?" he sheepishly asked. The bag wasn't speaking. "WELL,

began clawing at the twisty garbage tie. He opened up the bag and lurched back at the sight. His
mother's face was upturned, her eyes rolled back in their sockets, her blue lips parted in a frozen
scream. The bag was already beginning to smell and he was glad tomorrow was trash day. Perched
on Leona's lap, clutched between her rigor mortis claws, was her vinyl imitation Gucci handbag.
Marty leaned over and apprehensively reached inside the garbage bag trying to get at the purse, until
his ear was practically over her mouth. His mother's beefy cellulite thighs were parted, displaying
thick support hose. Marty's fingers finally reached the purse strap but she had a death grip on it with
her icy fingers and wasn't about to let go. "Come on, Ma, give it to me. GIVE IT TO ME!" Marty
tried peeling back her rigid fingers but it was no use. "You don't want me to get the poultry shears,

Craftsman's claim that the equipment was not safe and states that shop workers raised concern about
a possible design flaw related to the safety guard on the table saw by informing the shop foreman.
The employees argue that the guard is poorly designed and does not' function as it should. A recently
published health and safety report has surfaced that supports the employees' claim regarding the
poor design of the safety guard.
John Craftsman's injury was the third injury of this type in the past three months and there is
growing concern among employees regarding the quality of the shop equipment and about their
personal safety. The workers state that they expressed their concerns with their immediate
supervisor and have also contacted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
regarding what they perceive as unsafe working conditions and company's failure to accept
responsibly. They state that information has also been leaked to local media.
Case Analysis
What We Know and What It Means
The injured employee believes the Company is at fault for his injury because the company failed to
ensure that the equipment he was required to use to perform his job was as not safe. His opinion is
reasonable if the company knew that a design flaw existed and ignored it. No evidence has been
provided that supports the claim that the Company or the shop foreman knowingly allowed unsafe

Vincent Van Gogh As A Craftsman
Vincent van Gogh, a standout amongst the most understood post–impressionist craftsmen, for whom
shading was the central image of articulation, was conceived in Groot–Zundert, Holland on March
30, 1853.The child of a minister, raised in a religious and refined climate, Vincent was exceptionally
enthusiastic, needed fearlessness and battled with his character and with course. He trusted that his
actual calling was to lecture the gospel; notwithstanding, it took a long time for him to find his
calling as a craftsman. In the vicinity of 1860 and 1880, when he at last chose to end up plainly a
craftsman, van Gogh had officially experienced two inadmissible and troubled sentiments and had
worked unsuccessfully as an assistant in a book shop, a workmanship sales representative, and an
evangelist in the Borinage where he was rejected for enthusiasm. He stayed in Belgium to think
about workmanship, resolved to give bliss by making excellence. Crafted by his initial Dutch period

Essay about The Importance of Merchants in Medieval Times
During the Medieval Times, merchants were just as important and wealthy as the lords and nobles.
The way they would go about their wealth was getting an education to learn how to think, count,
information about the world, interest rates, exchange rates, and many more information that relates
to dealing with money and trade. Education has always been important to create opportunities to
have successful jobs and it was interesting to read that in Medieval Times education was considered
more of a hobby, but to be a merchant it became less of a hobby and more of an opportunity to be
well–educated people and gave them a chance to be successful business men. Merchants were big

The masters were the people who were professionals in a specific craft. The apprentices were
usually the Master's sons who learned their specific craft for a certain amount of years. After all the
time that is spent learning the craft, they gained more skill and experience. Once they've finished
their experience as an apprentice and learning everything they needed to know, they would work as
Journeymen. They would then work and save up all of the money that they earned to one day open
up a store of their own. It was interesting to learn that women also took part in guild. Unfortunately,
they were not treated as well as the men. They were treated as second–class workers and second–
class members. Women worked as servants, petty retailers, spinsters, midwives, prostitutes, and any
occupation that didn't involve any skills. Most women were arranged to marry Guild Masters. Some
of the crafts they worked on were silk pinning and embroidery. Even though they were involved in
some production of goods, they were completely controlled by the men. Some merchants became
wealthy and some weren't so lucky. Wealth did not depend on status or hierarchy; it depended on
your success in business. Some merchants even made their way up to nobles because of how good
they were as businessmen. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Church's looked down upon those who
made their living as merchants. An occupation that involved

The New Orleans Conceived Craftsman
It 's four years since Frank Ocean 's last collection, Channel Orange, and 13 months since he
guaranteed the postliminary, Boys Don 't Cry, would be discharged.
In a time when numerous significant specialists are productive –, for example, Drake – or universal

and stayed under the radar. Past a modest bunch of visitor vocal appearances, an a capella track on
Kanye West 's The Life of Pablo, a two–minute representation of tune called Memrise and an
appearance in a Calvin Klein advertisement, next to no has been seen or gotten notification from

The anticipation was broken on 1 August, when baffling footage – purportedly recorded in 2015 –

contrasting CCTV–like setup that demonstrated within a void stockroom and a line of apparatus. We
saw a substantial heap of speakers, potentially taken from an establishment by the craftsman and
companion of Ocean Tom Sachs, that is as of now being appeared at Brooklyn Museum in New
York. On occasion, a figure – later uncovered to be Ocean – would arrive and begin to cut, bore and

The Nature Of Elizabethan Acting
ARTICLE 1
Elizabethan Acting Author(s): Alfred Harbage Source: PMLA, Vol. 54, No. 3 (Sep. 1939), pp. 685–
708
The debate over the nature of acting during Shakespeare's time has been there for a long time. As
early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What
was the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people
into two schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early
days were characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan
acting was formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and
naturalism.
However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to
look at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether
acting is formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their
presentation never changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one
audience but the same could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the
other. Alfred Harbage wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the two
could have been present in the Elizabethan period.
He argues that "Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the
actor who remains in character and tends

American Street Craftsman Banksy Research

  • 1. Research Paper On American Street Craftsman Is it true? Can some pictures really be worth a thousand words? I think so. As a matter of fact, looking at this one, I think some can be worth five pages. But who creates those pictures, and what message are they trying to send? I can answer that for you. American street craftsman, Banksy is scandalous for creating exceedingly disputable pictures that defy societal and political issues. Demonstrated all throughout his works, Banksy does not make it clear what message his art actually gives off. Instead, he leaves it up to the onlookers' own perception to decipher the true meaning behind the image. Most of his art uses no words, by that, it is through the investigation of semiotics that we can contrast between the meaning and the undertone of his works (Bal). For most of his artworks', its not hard to seize the idea behind them. Some of their meanings are unmistakable and give a clear indication of what message is being perceived. In fact I have the perfect example. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is crying his tail off. He looks no older than twelve, and stands no taller than four feet. It allows you to take pictures or record videos and share them publicly or privately. But what makes it so popular? Instagram is free, fun, creative, and most importantly simple. It's a virtual way of making ordinary people feel like celebrities(Mariella). • 3. Analysis Of Sears Holding Company ( Shld ) Introduction Sears Holding Company (SHLD) was once a very successful organization. Prior to the 1980's, SHLD managed to generate revenue and compete among the top retailers in America (Kim, 2014). However, in more recent years, SHLD has become subject to scrutiny among industry's critics. As of late, SHLD has made several attempts to revive their organization. These attempts involve SHLD implementing corporate, business and functional leveled strategies within their organization. Corporate Level Strategies Every organization needs to create corporate level strategies. Corporate level strategies help organizations create plans and methods that will allow them to grow, no matter how the economy changes (Latham, 2014). SHLD used two different corporate level strategies to help them increase revenue and cut costs. The first corporate strategy used by SHLD is horizontal integration mergers. This strategy involved SHLD merging with K– Mart. K–mart decided to merge with Sears in 2004, in hopes that both stores can gain an competitive advantage over rival retail giants. Both SHLD and K–Mart thought that they would be better suited to compete against Lowes and Home Depot; this is due to their potential inventory increase and availability from the merger. While merging seemed to open doors for both SHLD and K–Mart, there was still a need for retrenchment. Retrenchment was used by SHLD once the merger as complete, this involved store closures and laying off employees at various Sears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Sears Corporate Social Responsibility As Sears Holdings has continued to grow so rapidly there has been some down falls within the company, this is not to say that due to the downfalls they cannot have a stronger rising. As the down size to help increase their profits once again, it is seen to be helpful that they have such a great business ethics as their backbone. Being able to rely on the knowledge of creating such a huge corporation should help Sears Holdings to regrow even stronger after a downsize. The course of actions Sears Holdings interprets from the triple bottom line is what is making it possible to regrow not only financially but also sustainably. The relationship between the four individual sections all seem to have some type of tie in with one another. There is a strong tie between their ethics and law. The relationship between ethics and law seem to be that they coincide with one another, they both rely on each other to be able to function. Without the law the ethics wouldn't work and without ethics the laws placed within the company wouldn't function properly. Sears Holdings were awarded the "2015 Better Business Bureau's Torch Award for Ethics in the Marketplace for Chicago and Northern Illinois" (Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Report 2014. 2014). This is a prime example of how well their business ethics and law work together this award takes a company being able to demonstrate high ethical standards and the ability to provide documentation in stakeholder relations, and market practices just to name a ... • 9. Sears Mission Statement Problem or Need Prior the 1980's, Sears Holding Corporation (SHLD) managed to generate revenue and compete among the top retailers in America (Kim, 2014). SHLD's current financial status reveals that they are failing to maintain profitability. Having worked with SHLD for over two years, I have noticed a slow decline in profits. The main reasons for SHLD mishaps are due to a lack of a satisfactory mission statement (Sears Holding Corp, 2014), increased competition, insufficient marketing tools and lack of bargaining power. All of these elements play a part in SHLD loss of profits. Research Basis SHLD profitability problem goes beyond person opinion and first–hand experience. The level of research needed to find solutions will require scholarly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although SHLD is attempting to cut costs and capitalize off of their newly appointed loyalty program, the company continues to manufacture quarterly losses (Sharf, 2014). Their lack of profitability stems from an inadequate mission statement, increased competition, inadequate marketing and lack of bargaining power. However, all of these aspects can be fixed to ensure that SHLD becomes profitable again. This is why research needs to be completed. I need to research ways combat competition, revitalize their marketing approach and increase their bargaining power. Furthermore, I need to ensure that SHLD's modified mission statement provides guidelines for the entire organization to follow. Once all of these aspects of SHLD are fixed, I will present my results to my General Manager of SHLD eastern region. Prior to presenting a formal report to my General Manager, I plan to excavate information from sources as follows: Wall Street Journal, Forbes, ABC news and much more. In addition to periodicals, I will use UMUC's Library to extract financial trends and statistics. Moreover, I plan to conduct interviews with general and store managers from Sears and K–Mart stores to retrieve their reactions to SHLD current financial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. John Craftsman Case Injuries from an accident happen all the time and can happen to anyone. Questions arise from workplace accidents involving injuries. Number one issue in this incident is to determine could this accident/injury been prevented. A thorough analysis needs to be completed. John Craftsman, a company employee, has been severely injured on his hand when pushing a large piece of wood through a table saw in the production shop. Therefore, John claims that he followed the procedures when working, and the company is legible for his injuries. According to him, the machine had no guarantee of keeping the employee safe when working. As for the company's shop manager, David Waffler, he claims that the machine was in a safe condition since he was not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harry further claims that he saw John with his co–workers laughing and goofing which could have led to the accident. Therefore, the blame game between the employee, foreman and the manager tends to be the resultant factor of this problem. Analysis of the Information For that reason, it would be appropriate if I could develop some vital questions that would support me in trying to analyze and address such an issue. First, should John claim that the company is liable for his injuries? If so what appropriate measures should he had taken? Also, if the company is responsible what should they do to John? On the other side what should be done to John if it is known that the business is not liable for the injuries? As the foreman stated that the machine was in a perfect condition who should be blamed if the machine was incapacitated. At the time of trying to analyze and scan the environment where one can source out relevant information regarding the conflict. I will be looking at the different evidence produced by the employee's party and the company. For instance, on the employee side John claims that the business is liable for his injuries because the machine being used was not in a proper condition for their safety. • 13. Economic And Social Aspects Of The Commercial Revolution... During the Middle Ages, the period from the eleventh to the thirteenth centuries, the European economy was able to expand. Commercial Revolution was when trade grew and merchants had developed new business techniques. The modernizing trade in the Commercial Revolution was a cause for a rebirth of town life. According to Cole, "Urban manufacturing was regulated by professional associations known as guilds or confraternities." Also, guilds promoted the interests of the members by trying to defend monopolies and to limit competition. In the late Middle Ages the cloth trade had become an important site of conflict. The Middle Ages and these conflicts became a feature of life including famine, plague, war, social, and economic conflicts. The Medieval Guild System comprised of craft and merchant guilds influencing economic and social aspects of European life. During this time the two most common guilds were craftsmen and merchant. Merchant guilds sold increasing quantities of cloth around Europe and they imported raw wool from England to supply the cloth–makers in order to handle long–distance and regional trade. The other guild craftsmen was when weavers or dyers achieved a monopoly in the production of a product. In many places where the guilds performed independently of one another the craft guilds began to take over the control of the production from the merchant guilds. • 15. Sears Canada Essay Almost everyone has heard about the demise of Sears Canada. The loss of such an established and renowned retail company caused quite a stir. While many speculated the company hadn't done all it could to keep up with a changing retail environment, others pointed to those same changes as a herald of things to come. Of more interest to employers and HR managers, employees, and the general public alike was the way Sears handled issues such as benefits and pensions for current and former employees. The Sears Situation Sears announced it was liquidating and closing all retail locations shortly after a country–wide rebranding effort. The retailer had long been in trouble, and the effort was meant to revitalize the company's brand and make it more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the middle class has been hollowed out in Canada, there were fewer of these shoppers and more shoppers at either end of the spectrum. Both higher–end shoppers and lower–end shoppers avoided Sears, for opposite reasons. Other factors were at play, including a dowdy brand image among younger consumers, a lack of perceived quality, and pricing. Management practices can also be called into question, particularly when it came to supporting employees who were losing their jobs and benefits. The Sears Solution Clearly, Sears Canada found it could no longer operate and decided to wind down its operations. All current Sears employees lost their jobs, in addition to their benefits. Those former employees who had been receiving pensions from Sears Canada had their pensions cut off. This move outraged employees, their families, and members of the general public. Making matters worse, Sears Canada opted to pay large bonuses to executives and upper management. Many argued those bonuses could have, and should have, been used to support employees as they looked for new work or to help those who were relying on Sears Canada for their income in retirement or while on disability. • 17. Company Analysis: Sears Holding Corporation Company Analysis: Sears Holding Corporation Abstract Sears Holdings Corporation (SHC) is the nation's fourth largest broadline retailer with approximately 3,900 full–line and specialty retail stores in the United States and Canada. Formed in the later part of the 19th century it was the largest retail company in the country until the early nineties. SHC is currently the leading home appliance retailer as well as a leader in tools, lawn and garden, home electronics and automotive repair and maintenance. As a result of its merger with Kmart in 2005, SHC also has Martha Stewart Everyday products, which are offered exclusively in the U.S. by Kmart. SHC operates through its subsidiaries, including Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Kmart Corporation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kmart). Merger The merger between Kmart and Sears clearly enhanced both of the companies' mutual progressive goals. Sears invested many assets in the formation of Sears Grand stores, larger off store malls, and in the process bought many of the Kmart locations which were going out of business. Therefore the merger helped this process so that it would enable the further growth of Sears at a quicker pace as well as enhance the productivity and save the Kmart Corporation. This was clearly a strong decision made by the executives in combining forces so that the marketability of both companies would increase. Along with this, the shareholders could make a tremendous profit with this alliance. Prior to the merger, if the independent companies were not steadily increasing their revenue shareholders would lose money from their investments. The combination of both of the corporations would improve shareholder investment returns and thus facilitate the growth of the Sears Holding Corporation. The more investors receive higher returns, the greater investments into the company thus fostering its overall growth. The proprietary brands, selling the aforementioned products, under both companies would be able to reach the target demographic groups with greater ease. • 19. Swot Analysis Of Sears The merger between Sears and Kmart was a very big event in business. At the time both companies were in the top three in sales along with Walmart. A summarized look of the history and background of Sears before the merger all started in 1866, When Mr. Richard W. Sears created a watch company that he named R.W. Sears. This company was in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the watches were only sold via mail orders. The following year the company decided to settle in Chicago as their first real location and Mr. Sears hired his first employee named Alvah C. Roebuck, who was a watchmaker. Then in 1888, the first ever catalog that included Mr. Sears watches and jewelry was established. One year later Mr. Sears sells this newly started company and starts another company that was named Sears, Roebuck and Co. A man named Julius Rosenwald, a wealthy clothing line owner, decided to buy out Mr. Roebucks side of the company. Around the same time ownerships are switching the first large catalog for the company was published. Then in 1911 Sears then created their first testing laboratory. By the end of 1913 the company introduces the very popular brand known as Kenmore. After the launch of this brand the company begins to bring in tons of more revenue and decides to create a savings and profit sharing funds for Sears employees. But a thing to remember is that Sears did not actually open a retail store until 1925 that was located a few miles outside of Chicago. In 1931 Sears went into another ... • 21. What Makes A Craftsman? The concept of craftsmanship has been known to us for centuries, however what defines a Craftsman is less clear. It is commonly understood that a craftsman works with his hands, and that this work is done to a high standard. We can however clarify what it means to be a craftsman by understanding the path he takes before he is seen as such. If we look back to earlier eras we can begin to understand the defining characteristics of craftsmanship. The ancients produced solely by craft– that is, without organised industry. (McCullough, 1998) In ancient times there was no manufacturing, no production lines, every item was crafted by hand by individuals who had mastered the art of their particular trade. This gives us an insight into the historical necessity of Craftsmanship, without the development of the requisite skills there would have been very little production at all. Malcolm McCullough states that the practise of craft for the purpose of maintaining of livelihood can be classified as Artisanry (McCullough, 1998). This means that in order for a Craftsman to be elevated to the realm of an Artisan or Master, he must practice his craft for the purpose of sustenance, without this purpose, it could be reasonably concluded that his craft is merely a hobby or pastime. The Craftsman is considered an authority on his particular craft, he has amassed a large amount of knowledge and experience, and as such he is able to dictate the outcome of his works. Weisbord examined two key elements of organizational life; task and process. There are six variables; purpose, structure, relationship, rewards, helping mechanism, and leadership (Palmer, 2008). To clearly understand each variable there will be a brief overview of each variable. With defining the leadership right off, differently helped the relationship of the two companies coming together. It allowed for clear communication with the employees on who would be in charge and an idea of the direction they were heading for the future. Rewards: I didn't find much on a rewards or incentives for the merger only that it would rank them third in retail companies. This may be an area in which the company lacked, and may have pushed them to the verge of closing now. Helpful mechanism: I feel that they had a strong direction on with this area for the six–box model, because they are were much defined on how things were going to be. They had transition for the headquarters to be in Chicago but also leaving the Kmart headquarters in Troy, MI. It showed that there would be a support system still in place for the Kmart employees and customers. Leadership: I really like what Kmart and Sears did with their leadership. The main thesis of the book is the known problems and reactions which affected the events and outcomes of the revolution in every stage, now everyone in France was affected by the revolution. I agree with the author's thesis on many different levels. Since the multiple troubles the people had at that time did not originate just then but decades before. The California craftsman bungalow style house was named this because of its introduction to the United States in California and abundance in California in the 1900s to the 1930s. Craftsman refers to the style of house; whereas, bungalow references the features of the house and overall use of the house. The bungalow originated in India where it was as an alternative to tent living among English colonial traders and officers. She had been left a widow a few years prior to her construction of the bungalow, and the only thing she had to support her and her son was the cottage that she and her husband had built before his death. She picked up many skills during the construction of the first cottage, and planned to build the bungalow without outside aid. The author wrote about how Bertha built the house "heedless of what 'the neighbors' may say." This indicates that Bertha did not pay attention to what her neighbors or the public thought of her actions, implying that she did not care what they said about her actions because she continued to construct the house. The description of her independent attitude is progressive for that time period, empowering women because Bertha took on a traditionally masculine roles and completed them as if it was in her nature. However the language the author used to describe her and her actions in the article were patronizing. The author first introduced Bertha by stating, "with her soft white hands Bertha Bossel, a brave little woman of Berkeley, has begun the erection of a bungalow on a lot she owns." The act of calling her brave, suggests that being strong was out of her character because it was not in her prescribed gender role. Additionally, describing her with soft white hands makes her appear delicate to the reader. The adjectives the used to describe Bertha fit into traditional gender roles as an act to balance out the traditionally masculine tasks Bertha fulfilled. • 35. Taking a Look at the Gamble House The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period when the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to engulf the marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant reduction in quality and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of the middle class. The problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all identical and the furniture was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some of the pioneers who disagreed with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The Arts and Crafts Movement was the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with a creative solution to build a foundation for better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and other household items. The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts Style or the Craftsman style in America. • 61. Master Craftsmen in the Medieval "I like crafts that are made out of necessity because they're a little naive – you made it because you needed it."– Amy Sedaris. Master craftsmen during the Medieval Ages created items needed for the kingdom to thrive. Craftsmen included candle makers, shoemakers, and farmers, but the most famous craftsmen were blacksmiths, carpenters, and masons. Every type of craftsmen were in groups called guilds and every guild needed to cooperate. If one guild failed to meet its needs, then the whole medieval structure will fail, causing the kingdom to fall. Carpenters, masons, and blacksmiths were important craftsmen in building castles and villages and you had to go through apprenticeship for many years before becoming one of the three master craftsmen. Before becoming a master craftsman, the child started their training at the age of eleven or twelve and became an apprentice. A child would be able to choose his own profession or follow the family business. Some craftsmen that a child can become include: carpenters, masons, and blacksmiths The apprentice would last from five to nine years depending on the trade. It could be filled with chicken bones or garden leaves or old newspapers, but instead it was filled with mom. It gave Marty a comforting feeling. He decided to watch some television and dragged the Hefty bag into the den where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Hey, Ma, can I borrow some money?" he sheepishly asked. The bag wasn't speaking. "WELL, YOU KNOW I'M BROKE!" Marty suddenly boomed. Without knowing what he was doing, Marty began clawing at the twisty garbage tie. He opened up the bag and lurched back at the sight. His mother's face was upturned, her eyes rolled back in their sockets, her blue lips parted in a frozen scream. The bag was already beginning to smell and he was glad tomorrow was trash day. Perched on Leona's lap, clutched between her rigor mortis claws, was her vinyl imitation Gucci handbag. Marty leaned over and apprehensively reached inside the garbage bag trying to get at the purse, until his ear was practically over her mouth. His mother's beefy cellulite thighs were parted, displaying thick support hose. Marty's fingers finally reached the purse strap but she had a death grip on it with her icy fingers and wasn't about to let go. "Come on, Ma, give it to me. GIVE IT TO ME!" Marty tried peeling back her rigid fingers but it was no use. "You don't want me to get the poultry shears, do you?" cautioned Marty. At that moment, Leona's pudgy fingers released the ... Step, punch, kick, block, she looked like a dancer who had finally perfected a routine, but this was just her warm up, no wonder she had become an apprentice so early. The girl's name is Maryzallia. Maryzallia is very young for her ranking; generally apprentices are 20–22 years of age. Maryzallia is 18, and only supposed to be a junior or even a pupil. She pulled the note off of the arrow, and walked mechanically over to him showing no emotion. " Master, I... I was too late." She sighed, and handed him the note. He read it, and his face fell even more than it already had. "What is it? Is there going to be a war? What's going on?" She needed answers. "I will explain it all later, but for now you have advanced to graduate. This means that you have access to everything the masters have, but you are too young to take on an apprentice and go on solo missions. I know you are confused, but I have to deal with other things right now." "Okay, I will go pack my possessions." She walked away with no intention of packing; she needed to tell Olive the bad news. After all the time that is spent learning the craft, they gained more skill and experience. Once they've finished their experience as an apprentice and learning everything they needed to know, they would work as Journeymen. They would then work and save up all of the money that they earned to one day open up a store of their own. It was interesting to learn that women also took part in guild. Unfortunately, they were not treated as well as the men. They were treated as second–class workers and second– class members. Women worked as servants, petty retailers, spinsters, midwives, prostitutes, and any occupation that didn't involve any skills. Most women were arranged to marry Guild Masters. Some of the crafts they worked on were silk pinning and embroidery. Even though they were involved in some production of goods, they were completely controlled by the men. Some merchants became wealthy and some weren't so lucky. Wealth did not depend on status or hierarchy; it depended on your success in business. Some merchants even made their way up to nobles because of how good they were as businessmen. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Church's looked down upon those who made their living as merchants. In a time when numerous significant specialists are productive –, for example, Drake – or universal – Rihanna, Beyoncé – the New Orleans–conceived craftsman has taken as much time as is needed and stayed under the radar. • 78. The Nature Of Elizabethan Acting ARTICLE 1 Elizabethan Acting Author(s): Alfred Harbage Source: PMLA, Vol. 54, No. 3 (Sep. 1939), pp. 685– 708 The debate over the nature of acting during Shakespeare's time has been there for a long time. As early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What was the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people into two schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early days were characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan acting was formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and naturalism. However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to look at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether acting is formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their presentation never changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one audience but the same could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the other. Alfred Harbage wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the two could have been present in the Elizabethan period. He argues that "Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the actor who remains in character and tends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
