2. Step One
• Firstly, I had to chose an image to use on the front cover.
• Once I chose my main image, I had to edit it. To do this, I used photoshop,
however it didn’t need much editing as the background of my image was going
to be the background on my front cover.
• In photoshop, I used the crop tool to crop out as much of the picture on the
wall as could without accidently cropping out any of my model. I couldn’t crop
it all out, so after this I used the clone tool to make the whole background blue.
This involved selecting part of the blue background and dragging the mouse
over the remaining bit of the picture frame. After this, I inserted the image into
a fireworks document.
3. Step Two
• Once I had the main image on the fireworks document, I had to create a
title/masthead. To start with, I looked on a website called ‘dafont’, but I
couldn’t find a font that I liked. As well as this, to use a font off that website,
you had to screenshot it. This meant that the masthead was of quite bad
quality.
• Instead, I found a font fireworks that I liked and thought suited my magazine.
Following this, I had to decide on a name for the magazine. It was originally
called ‘Sound’ but after asking other people for their opinions, I made the
decision to change it to ‘Encore’.
4. Step Three
• After adding my masthead to the fireworks document, I had to add in all of the other
text that surrounds the image.
• Firstly I had to make the other main piece of text on the page, the part that says
‘Olivia Weston’. I wanted the font to be different to the rest of the text, and I wanted
it to be quite girly to fit in with the genre. I selected a font on fireworks and made it
blue to fit in with the colour scheme.
• Then I had to add in all of the other text boxes about the other features in the
magazine. Again to fit in with the colour scheme, I made the text blue and pink.
• I also had to come up with a slogan for the magazine to go next to the masthead.
This took quite a lot of time to come up with, but I eventually decided on ‘A passion
for pop’. I made this blue to stick with the colour pattern but I wanted it to be
different from the title, because the title is meant to be the thing that stands out the
most on the page.
5. Step Four
• The final part of creating my front cover was to add in the little details.
• This included the date, issue number and the barcode.
• Although they are only small in comparison to everything else on the page,
they very important conventions of all types of magazines.
• I used the barcode creator on ‘dafont’, and picked a random date and issue
number.
6. • After finishing my front cover, I asked for
peoples opinion and suggestions on what I
could do better.
• A lot of the people I asked said that it looked
quite dark.
• I took this into consideration and then altered
the brightness and contrast on fireworks.
• I then had my final product.
