BBC Radio 4 Podcast – Landscapes
This Podcast is 3 separate documentaries where the landscapes become a character.
The audio in these stories include slow, emotional and at sometimes, dramatic music
depending on what was being told. The second documentary of this podcast was a
kind of magical story about a Danish folklore in which the person telling the story
would speak with a sense of mystery and amazement which was accompanied with
relaxing, nature inspired type music.

BBC Radio 4 Podcast – The Witching Hour
This podcast was completely different to the first one I had listened to as the theme
was creepy and supernatural stories. The dialogue featured lots of imagery of the
woods and a sense of being alone in a creepy and unsettling environment. As the
podcast were scary stories in the woods type setting, the audio featured noises like
branches rustling and twigs snapping. The music was slow and was made to sound like
the noises in the natural environment such as wind.

BBC Radio 4 Podcast – Afterimage
This radio podcast talks about memory's that stay with you. The language that the
man used when describing the story being his emotional repeat encounter was
more formal as the story was based when he was deployed in Iraq and featured
many feelings such as happiness and excitement however this was outweighed by
his feelings of fear, grief and sympathy. The music used behind the story was very
mesmerising, almost making his story very dream like to emphasise the fact that
he is describing distant memories. He also did this by featuring long pauses in his
speech to imply that he is describing his memories as he is remembering them.
Distant conversations and sounds from the environment in which the memory is
set in are also featured alongside certain parts of his dialogue. These sounds
further engage the listener as it gives you further insight into his story. The
dialogue is also very interesting and is spoken and recorded in a way that it ensure
the audio is clear and understandable for a pleasant listening experience.
5. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
• They use music related to the story's theme such as the use of dramatic, or emotion music to engage the
listener and make them feel included or dark and eerie for the creepier kind of story. They all also feature
environment sounds that match the setting of the story for example; wildlife and distant conversations.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
• I will include similar descriptive vocabulary however in terms of sounds and music, my product will feature
those similar to the kind of sounds and music featured in ‘The Witching Hour’.
