2. 1. What did you find the most challenging and why?
There were many challenges that we came across whilst recreating the
music video to Rihanna ‘You Da One’. One of the biggest challenges we
came across was adding the fonts on to the video once it was edited.
Because we edited the video using iMovie, we were unable to add the
fonts that we had edited using Photoshop and saved. We saved our
video on iMovie and tried to open the file in Final Cut. When we had
opened the video on Final Cut, it had altered the seconds of the clips
therefore making the video and the song out of sync. In order to fix this,
we would have had to edit the whole video again whilst putting the fonts
over the top of the video. This would have taken a lot of time to complete
so we could not have done it as we did not have any time left. We
decided not to add the text over the video and to just keep the video
shots of our ‘Rihanna’ singing. The video does not look bad but it would
have been a lot better if we had be able to add the text.
3. 2. What will you do differently when you make your A2 product next year?
When I make my A2 product next year I will use Final Cut to edit my
product. This is because the things you can do on iMovie are limited whilst
Final Cut has many options such as adding personalized text onto the clip.
This will be helpful for me should I decide to add any text onto my video
for my A2 product. Another thing that I will do differently when creating my
A2 product next year is that I will be more organized with my props. When
recreating this music video, our ‘Rihanna’ needed to use a smoke pen in
order to release smoke from her mouth. On the day of filming, I had
forgotten to bring the smoke pen because I was also responsible for
bringing a number of other props such as the blonde wig and hat leaving
me to forget about the smoke pen. Fortunately, a family member was able
to drive to college and give it to me so we did not miss out on the scene
with the smoke.
4. 3) How has doing this task helped you and why? What have you taken away from this
experience?
This task has helped me a lot as I now know what I need to do in order
to make a music video. Even though I had to recreate an existing music
video instead of being creative and making an original one, I saw some
videos that may inspire my A2 product such as shots types, camera
movements and also props and such for the mise-en-scene. Because of
this task, I now know how to make the video and song sync together to
create a more realistic and professional looking music video and will
use this knowledge when creating my product during A2.
5. 4. How successful was your product? Why do you think it was successful or unsuccessful?
I think that our product was successful as the shots that we filmed were
correct and match those of which we see in the Rihanna ‘You Da One’
music video. We also dressed our ‘Rihanna’ very similarly to the real
Rihanna in her video by dressing her in high waisted black trousers, a
black vest top and gold jewelry but most importantly, a blonde wig. The
only thing that we were unsuccessful at was adding the text over the
video so that it would be almost exactly the same as the existing music
video. Even though we encountered this problem, we now know how to
avoid it in the future when creating our A2 product.
6. 5) How do you feel about developing to A2 level now you have completed this task?
I am confident that in A2 I will be just as hardworking as I was during AS.
The problems that we had whilst completing this transition task have not
deterred me from continuing on to A2, if anything it has made me even
more determined to go on to A2 and overcome or avoid those problems. I
feel that this transition task has given me many ideas for the product I will
create in A2. I think that our product was successfully created and of a
high standard and was created in just 3 weeks. I am confident that given
even more time in A2, the product that I will create will be even better.
7. 6. What do you like most/least about your final product?
The thing that I like least about my final product is that there is no text
over the video. When watching the original ‘You Da One’ video, the text
plays a big part in the video as there is a piece of writing across the
screen for almost every shot. Without the text we are just left with the
shots therefore making it different from the original. The thing that I like
most about my product is the effects that we added on top of the clips to
give it a black and white effect and to also increase the contrast and
brightness. Another thing that I like about my final product is the shot
where the smoke slowly comes out of our actress’s mouth. To make it the
same as the one Rihanna does, we used iMovie to play it in slow motion,
making it similar to the one seen in the original video.
