1. 1) In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of a real media
product?
AS Media Evaluation
Mollie May Allison
4. Through all my media product, they all show continuingly and that they belong to
the same magazine, as I have chosen a colour theme that is the same and used it in
all three products. I have used black for the extra information on my contents and
front page as well as using black text for the main article on my double page
spread. I have also used red text for the pull quotes on my double page spread and
contents to show that they belong to the same magazine. As well as this, I have
used the same text blending option for my featured artists name to also show a link
between all my products. I have included in all my products the same colour for
each different section of text so that the colour isn’t overwhelming with different
colours and shows that my magazine is sophisticated and professional. I have used
the same text styles for the information on my front cover to the contents page
information for the featured section and also for the article on my double page
spread. Thus linking my products together and creating continuality. I have made
my magazine model wear clothes that you would stereotypically associate with a
country artist singer in this current era. By doing this, it allows the readers of the
magazine to identify my music genre form all my media products. I have included
props that also allow help the reader to identify my genre as I have used a guitar in
my front cover and contents and a cowboy, country straw hat in my double page
spread. By looking at country music artist on the cover of country magazine, it help
me create an ideal image on my head of what an artist of my genre would look like.
This helped to follow the conventional features you would expect to see on a real
country magazine. I used my research to inspire the layout of my magazine so that
it also follow the same style of a real like magazine.
5. I included a skyline on the front of
my cover as looking at different
types of magazines I noticed all
included one. I had the repetition
of the word ‘NEW’ as when the
readers read this, they know they
are reading information that
nobody has heard before and is
exclusive to my magazine.
I chose to add a dark outline on
the text of the featured artists
inside my magazine, so that it
stands out from the rest of the
magazine. I chose the colour
light blue because it is
associated with being outside
and relaxed which is links to the
type of genre my magazine is.
Here some of the text is in bold, this is
because it is informing the readers of an
exclusive competition. The words ‘win’
and ‘Nashville Studio’ is in bold and
slightly bigger as these are the key parts
of the competition. If the reader sees
these first, it will make them want to
buy the magazine more to read about
the competition. Nashville studio is
used because the place is well known
for being associated with country music.
The featured artist is in a
larger text size to show
the importance of the
the name. When the
reader sees this, they
know there going to get
relevant information
about her inside.
I have used the word
exclusive to show that the
interview with my artist is
only available to readers of
the magazine. This makes
the audience believe that
they are important and
connects the reader with
the magazine.
A medium clos up of my
model holding a guitar,
positioned as though she is
playing. Follows similar styles
to country music magazines
and reinforces my genre. She
looks straight at the camera
connecting herself with the
reader as it is though she is
looking at them.
The title is on top of a light
blue backdrop as this makes
the yellow stand out against it.
Barcode and price on the front of my front
cover to show the conventional features
that would be on every magazine.
6. The title of my magazine
is on the contents page
as shows unity between
my front cover and
contents page. Its shows
that they both belong to
the same magazine.
The ‘featured’ text and
page numbers are in the
same text colour and
have a pink shape round
them to draw the reader
to where everything is in
my magazine.
The artists featured on
my front cover are in the
same colour to show
that they are the cover
stories of my magazine.
The main artists name is in yellow
which is the same colour as the
colour of the title text. This shows
that the artist is exclusive to the
magazine and tells the reader that
no other magazine has this kind of
information.
The quote used here is in the
same style of text and colour
as on the DPS, which again
shows that they belong to
the same magazine and
shows a link between them.
The name of the artist that
is the main cover story is in
the same text style and
colour as on the front page
and DPS. This shows that
they are all link to the
same magazine.
The model has the same
clothes as on the front cover
and has the same guitar.
Showing she is the main
cover artist and is the same
person as on the front of the
cover. She is also
recognizable to the reader.
Also she’s again looking at
the camera, creating a
connection with the reader.
The ‘up coming tours’ is
written in a different colour
text compare to the artists
featured in my magazine.
This is because the colour
chosen is red, which can
signify importance. This will
stand out to the audience
reading my magazine as it
will stand out to them.
7. The main image of this article
goes over the double page
fold, which represents her
importance in the magazine.
Conventionally this is done in
most magazines.
The artists name is in the
same text style, colour and
blending option as all the
other times I have used her
name in my products.
The pull quote
that I have used
here is the same
colour and text
font that I used in
my contents page.
Which links the
products together
as part of the
same magazine
A drop cap has been used at the beginning
of the article to show where the reader is
suppose to start reading. Most magazines
do this technique for the same reason and
to stand out from the rest of the article.
Here there is information on how readers can get in touch with
the magazine and if they want to read more about the
interviews this magazine has done. This is an important
convention for a magazine as it connects the reader to the
magazine. It also allows them to follow the magazines activities
and know more about what the magazine has to offer.
The article is
positioned into two
columns so that it
looks as though there
isn’t much to read. I
have structured it so
that it is question
and answer as most
magazines do this as
they want there own
questions to be
answers, and it also
shows the audience
that they have input
into the magazine.
The backdrop that
the main image is
on, is the same
backdrop as the
one I used on the
contents page. I
have done this so
that it shows that
they have the
same theme and
unity between all
the products. Also
it fits in well with
the genre of my
music as country
can be associated
with the country
side and it being all
sunny and relaxing.
The model is in the
same clothes as the
image on the front
cover of my magazine
and contents page
which shows the reader
that it is the same
model and fits again
with the genre of my
music magazine. The
hat used, is what you
would stereotypically
see a country singer
wearing. This reinforces
my chosen music genre.
