2. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
3. iMovie Editing Software We used iMovie editing software, simply because it was the best available software that we could use, it helped us formulate our transitions properly and it helped us over lap our music to fit our music video. We also used iMovie to help us with colourisation, we used a few black & white shots, by using iMovie we were able to create any type of colour effects we could possibly think of. Limitations of using iMovie; bar a few there wee hardly any limitations that we came across apart from split screens, we wanted to be able to use split screens so we could have to images running at the same time, this wasn’t able to be achieved as iMovie did not has this type of editing or transitions.
4. Serif Page Plus 11 Serif Page Plus 11 was available through the schools soft ware, we used this software to create our ancillary tasks. We were able to specify the correct dimensions of the sized paper we needed to fit the regulations of a normal CD digipak. This was a great help to us as we were able to manipulate the photographs that we had taken for our ancillary tasks, making them brighter and changing the contrast of the tone and shadows of the photo. Page Plus 11 also made it possible to change the layout to a style that we wanted and were able to match the back ground or ‘white space’ with the correct colour of the image back ground, we used a magic selection tool to achieve this. Limitations of Page Plus 11; as with any standard package it wasn’t the most high equip software and didn’t have any technical tools such as a professional manipulation program such as Photoshop would have. Also we found it difficult to be able to get a unusual type face that would make our music video stand out.
5. www.Blogger.com Blogspot was used to document all out our planning, it was really useful as we were able to use it as a diary basically, we could record everything that was done, said all of our problems and was really useful. Limitations; nothing really to say about limitations, I mean the obvious limitation is the fact that it is internet based, and if you don’t have internet connection there is no possible way of you getting on it to update your blog. Also the uploading pictures tool also played up a little, I found that I had to publish my post then re-edit it again if I had already uploaded an image… it wouldn’t let me upload it again.
6. Nikon D40 This was personally my favorite piece of equipment as I love photography, so using this in my final piece really worked out well, it was so much easier to use than a normal DV camcorder and the quality of it is 100x better, the footage from the camcorder was grainy and too dark and really wasn’t working for us so we switched to using this as well as a Sony T300, another stills camera which my partner owns. The quality of the image was so good on a bigger screen that the Dv’s which was amazing. There was also the option of being able to change the colour of the image (black and white, sepia, solarization etc.) if it was my choice I would have a Nikon camcorder also with in the school as the quality is far better. The quality of the camera helped us create the effect we wanted, clear images that would give an almost crisp perfect finish to our video.
7. Sony T300 This was my partners still camera, although being a consumer camera the quality of the image was far higher than the Sony DV camcorder which was surprising as they are both the same make. We used this also to help us document our planning and help making the final piece. Was a nice piece of equipment to use, it is a lot smaller than the Nikon D40 which made it easier for us to carry around and document our findings etc. Again the quality of the camera and stills really gave us the look we wanted
8. Sony DV Camcorder This was the piece of equipment provided by the school, in all fairness it was an easy thing to use but the quality of it was terrible if you filmed any time before 9am or after 4pm (basically you have to use it in daylight or the camera was grainy). We filmed up to about 1 hour 50 minutes with this camera and decided to stop using it as our idea was about lights and we had to film in almost complete darkness to create the effect we wanted. I really cannot say that I would use this again, the quality is appalling.
9. Slideshare.net Slideshare was an easy web based software that allowed me to publish presentations on to my blog. This allowed me to present my evaluation more creatively and for my examiners to be able to view my questions easier with out any complicated links.
