Question 6
1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT
ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES
FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
2. Film camera.
• Using the film camera proved to be a challenge at times. One
example would be the tracking shot we achieved in the first
section. This was created due to the small car that was made with a
motor to pull along the camera which was secured onto a 4
wheeled cart when attached to the car by string. We then stuck
down curtain rails to allow the car to be pulled in a straight line.
Even though the first few attempts were hard to get, as we had to
make sure all the scene was in shot, we believe we achieved a
successful tracking shot.
• Another time the camera was hard to use was when we had to get
the close up shots of the science equipment. This was hard as we
had to keep the camera still to get the effect we wanted. Keeping
the camera still when we created a high angle shot was hard as we
had to keep it balanced. Even though this was an obstacle we over
same it and achieved the shot we wanted.
3. Adobe premier.
• Before I started Media I had never used adobe premier. Due to this it
proved a challenge to learn the skills to make it effectively. One problem
that we encountered was trying to make sure all of our footage flowed
easily. As we didn’t film our footage in order of appearance, it was hard to
cut it and then make sure it all made sense. However after a few attempts
we achieved the edit that we wanted.
• Another problem we found was trying to animate our production
company logo. We found a green screen smoke effect that we were able
to use that we wanted to add over the image. As we didn’t know how to
do this at first it proved to be a problem to find out how to achieve the
effect we wanted. After looking at a few youtube tutorials and asking the
technician, we were able to get what we wanted.
• I now know how to use basic tools on adobe premier such as cutting and
adding titles
4. K’nex car.
• In our opening sequence we wanted a tracking shot. Early on we
found out that it would be a problem to create a good clean
tracking shot with the equipment that we were able to use. Due to
this we had to think of alternatives to create a good tracking shot.
Again, we looked on YouTube and Google to look for ideas that
would help us. One video we saw was a man using a small remote
control car, this inspired us to try out this technique. As no one in
our group had a remote control car that was stable enough for us
to place a camera on top of, we decided to create a car out of
k’nex. This was hard to create at first because we had to make sure
the car held the weight of the camera. This was not going to
happen so again we had to think of an alternative. We found a small
4 wheeled cart that the camera could be attached to that could be
pulled along by the k’nex car. This was a successful idea as it helped
us achieve the tracking shot we wanted.
5. Photoshop.
• Working with Photoshop has been a struggle. When creating out
production companies we had an image in our heads that we
needed to create. However when we actually came to create our
production company logos we discovered that it was harder to
actually make our initial ideas. For example creating our ‘test tube
productions’ logo was difficult as we had to find an image that was
exactly what we wanted which took a lot of time to find. we then
had to edit it the way we wanted to make the writing look like
smoke which none of us knew how to do. We looked on YouTube
for tutorials and after finding on that we wanted to found out that
making it look like smoke was easier than we originally thought.
Using Photoshop has made me realize that it was a really useful
piece of soft wear to understand as it can help make things look
more creating and visually appealing.
