EVALUATION QUESTION 4
HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?
By Halimat Dada
RESEARCH AND PLANNING
 These are the technologies used for research and planning:
 Computers and /ICT
 Blogger, YouTube(generic research statistics), Prezi, Google
(adverts and target audience), Baver media, UK tribes, BBC class
test, Slide share(word and PowerPoint), Powtoon, Sysomos, Sony
Vegas, Camera (target audience) and a voice recorder.
 This was used to as part of the secondary research for my
research and planning, this shows that 31 percent of the videos
are music based on YouTube which has the most views and
uploads.
 This helped my group to understand the percentage of the
people who still watch music videos and our target audience
age group.
BAUER MEDIA
 This is where I did my secondary research
on what the target audience could be
and what the websites think of R&B
music videos in general.
 This helped my group with what websites
that could possibly promote the video.
YOUTUBE
Youtube was used as primary research
because we used it to find new and fresh
information for our target audience and
how the genre we wanted was rated and
if people still have an interest in the genre.
This helped us the most because this is
where we are going to put our music video
for people to watch and comment.
PREZI
 Prezi was a great source for my
blog, this is where I could present
my work. This was very helpful
because this is where I posted my
Evaluation question, student
analysis videos, digipak and
magazines etc.
 This was done my me presenting my
work through my target audience,
primary, secondary research etc.
 The use of Prezi was a bit limited
because the school had a lot of
technical difficulties, because of this
some of the tasks were not made.
Blogger was used to present and
organise my work, this is done by posting
my work in order . Like I said before there
were technical difficulties so therefore
because of this some pictures were not
able to post at the time and because of
this my posts are npot organised as I
woukld have liked it to be because I
posted as they worked; because of this
some posts were delayed.
BLOGGER
SLIDESHARE
 I used slide share to upload
documents from word and
PowerPoint to show I can use a
range of media technologies to
present my work.
 Because of technical difficulties I
couldn’t use slide share as much
as I would have wanted to.
 However slide share was very
helpful because this is where I will
post this question and some of
the rest of my work such as
Evaluation Question 3, job roles,
mise en scene etc.
FACEBOOK
I used Facebook for primary research
because I wanted to get information
on what people liked and found
interesting about the video and the
genre.
Facebook was helpful because this is
where we posted the link for our misic
video, in order to get more feedback
and more views and opinions on our
music video.
CAMERA
 We had to use the camera to record
most of what we did for research and
planning.
 The camera was very helpful because it
helped us record different parts of our
research and planning such as target
audience, interview, focus groups and
auditions.
 However we did have some limitations
when it came to borrowing the school
camera because we were all doing the
same thing at the same time because it
was on a first come first served basis, so if
we didn’t ask ahead of time others may
get it.
We used Sony Vegas to edit our target
audience, interview, focus groups and
auditions.
This helped us because we were able to
understand our target audience and what
they want and would like in our music
video.
SONY VEGAS
CONSTRUCTION
 Camera
 Sony movie studio
 Adobe Photoshop
 Sound forge
 Phone for logistics
 Phone camera
 Stage lighting
SD CAMERAS AND NIKON
 Firstly we used the SD camera which is provided by the school but we realised that we
didn’t like the quality of the footage so we decided to use sekemis camera which she
bought for her photography coursework last year.
 The quality of sekemis camera was better and made a massive difference, so we just
decided to stick to it.
 The camera was the most important part of the construction
SONY VEGAS
 This is where we edited our music video, halimat edited our music
video because she did media at gcse and we both thought she
would be better at editing the music video.
 Using Sony Vegas is quite easy and simple to use, Sony Vegas
also has a range of filters to give the videos effects they need. It
also allows you to import and export various clips from different
places.
 Sony Vegas allows us to use various editing techniques such as
cross cuts, multi framing, fades, overlapping etc.
SONY VEGAS CONTINUED
 Tools used - Black and White: We used black and white in some parts of our video. This was to meet the
conventions of our genre R&B and to show the past in their relationship and when thy used to argue. This
effect was easy to apply to particular clips in our video. To do this, I selected the clip I wanted to put into
black and white, then went to ‘video FX’ then ‘black and white’ and dragged the effect on to the selected
clip.
 Tools used - Contrast: On some of our natural high key lighting, we wanted to adjust the contrast to make
the subject and the artist become more dominant. We were able to do this on Sony Vegas by using the
video FX. After dragging the effect onto the clip you could choose the amount you wanted it to contrast by
dragging the cursor left or right and by clicking on the clip and dragging down the opacity.
 Tools used - Split Screen: We created a split screen effect because it was something that we had seen in
many other R&B and Hip Hop videos, we did this by creating a new layer and using the ‘event/pan crop’
tool to select the amount of the video that we wanted to use, because we had such a large amount of
editing and different effects in our video, every time we went to watch it back, it was lagging; this is simply
because of the software we used in school. This wasn’t very useful for the amount of editing we had to do
and it was also a downfall to the making of the video.
PHOTOSHOP
 I used adobe photoshop CS4 for both my digipak and magazine advert, we
used this to edit the images to make them suit the chosen genre.
 This was the software we used to edit and create our digipak and magazine
advert. Sekemi did the editing and Halimat suggested some ideas. We
chose Sekemi to edit this part of our coursework because already knew how
to use this software because she did AS photography. Halimat didn’t really
know but about Photoshop so Sekemi did all the work when it came to
adobe Photoshop.
 Photoshop allows us to use different layers to merge the images and text for
our digipak and magazine advert.
 The making of our digipak and magazine was quite simple and easy
because we didn’t have to make shapes or anything like that, all we
needed to do was to type the text in for the track list, artist name, album
name, website, copyright information etc.
PHOTOSHOP CONTINUED
 There were some tools used whilst editing such as layers and
effects.
 On Photoshop, there are many different fonts, texts and styles to
chose from. After choosing our fonts and styles we were also able
to position them anywhere on the advert that we wanted to. We
were also able to layer images on top of the first image on here.
This was useful as we wanted to include the image of our digipak
and record label, iTunes sign and website. Photoshop helped us
to create a professional looking finished piece.
PHONE
 We used our phones to organise the actors, our schedule, to take
pictures (still shots for filming updates), weather(if the weather
wasn’t right we wouldn’t be able to film for example if it was
snowing we wouldn’t want those types of scenes or shot because
the continuity would be different form the rest of the shots).
EVALUATION
 Prezi
 Voice recorder
 Blogger
 YouTube
 Facebook
 Slide share
PREZI AND VOICE RECORDER
 Prezi was used to present evaluation question 1 because
question 1 has the most information and it would have been
easier and more organised if I did it through Prezi. I also needed
to add YouTube clips.
 The voice recorder was used for question 2 because it wasn’t as
long and would have been better portrayed through a voice
recorder and a video through YouTube. The video would be
edited through Sony Vegas.
BLOGGER AND YOUTUBE
 YouTube was used when presenting videos, it was used in Prezi's,
emaze, blogger, slide share etc. Screen shots were also taken
through YouTube to show what I am trying to present clearly.
 Blogger was used to present organise my work accordingly so my
teacher and the examiner will know where each task is.
FACEBOOK AND SLIDE SHARE.
 Facebook was used as another platform to show our music video
to our target audience and to get feedback.
 Slide share is another media technology for us to present and
show our work. Slide share would be used to present evaluation
question 3 and 4.

Evaluation question 4

  • 1. EVALUATION QUESTION 4 HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES? By Halimat Dada
  • 2. RESEARCH AND PLANNING  These are the technologies used for research and planning:  Computers and /ICT  Blogger, YouTube(generic research statistics), Prezi, Google (adverts and target audience), Baver media, UK tribes, BBC class test, Slide share(word and PowerPoint), Powtoon, Sysomos, Sony Vegas, Camera (target audience) and a voice recorder.
  • 3.  This was used to as part of the secondary research for my research and planning, this shows that 31 percent of the videos are music based on YouTube which has the most views and uploads.  This helped my group to understand the percentage of the people who still watch music videos and our target audience age group.

  • 6. SLIDESHARE  I used slide share to upload documents from word and PowerPoint to show I can use a range of media technologies to present my work.  Because of technical difficulties I couldn’t use slide share as much as I would have wanted to.  However slide share was very helpful because this is where I will post this question and some of the rest of my work such as Evaluation Question 3, job roles, mise en scene etc. FACEBOOK I used Facebook for primary research because I wanted to get information on what people liked and found interesting about the video and the genre. Facebook was helpful because this is where we posted the link for our misic video, in order to get more feedback and more views and opinions on our music video.

SD CAMERAS AND NIKON  Firstly we used the SD camera which is provided by the school but we realised that we didn’t like the quality of the footage so we decided to use sekemis camera which she bought for her photography coursework last year.  The quality of sekemis camera was better and made a massive difference, so we just decided to stick to it.  The camera was the most important part of the construction
  • 10. SONY VEGAS  This is where we edited our music video, halimat edited our music video because she did media at gcse and we both thought she would be better at editing the music video.  Using Sony Vegas is quite easy and simple to use, Sony Vegas also has a range of filters to give the videos effects they need. It also allows you to import and export various clips from different places.  Sony Vegas allows us to use various editing techniques such as cross cuts, multi framing, fades, overlapping etc.
  • 11. SONY VEGAS CONTINUED  Tools used - Black and White: We used black and white in some parts of our video. This was to meet the conventions of our genre R&B and to show the past in their relationship and when thy used to argue. This effect was easy to apply to particular clips in our video. To do this, I selected the clip I wanted to put into black and white, then went to ‘video FX’ then ‘black and white’ and dragged the effect on to the selected clip.  Tools used - Contrast: On some of our natural high key lighting, we wanted to adjust the contrast to make the subject and the artist become more dominant. We were able to do this on Sony Vegas by using the video FX. After dragging the effect onto the clip you could choose the amount you wanted it to contrast by dragging the cursor left or right and by clicking on the clip and dragging down the opacity.  Tools used - Split Screen: We created a split screen effect because it was something that we had seen in many other R&B and Hip Hop videos, we did this by creating a new layer and using the ‘event/pan crop’ tool to select the amount of the video that we wanted to use, because we had such a large amount of editing and different effects in our video, every time we went to watch it back, it was lagging; this is simply because of the software we used in school. This wasn’t very useful for the amount of editing we had to do and it was also a downfall to the making of the video.
  • 12. PHOTOSHOP  I used adobe photoshop CS4 for both my digipak and magazine advert, we used this to edit the images to make them suit the chosen genre.  This was the software we used to edit and create our digipak and magazine advert. Sekemi did the editing and Halimat suggested some ideas. We chose Sekemi to edit this part of our coursework because already knew how to use this software because she did AS photography. Halimat didn’t really know but about Photoshop so Sekemi did all the work when it came to adobe Photoshop.  Photoshop allows us to use different layers to merge the images and text for our digipak and magazine advert.  The making of our digipak and magazine was quite simple and easy because we didn’t have to make shapes or anything like that, all we needed to do was to type the text in for the track list, artist name, album name, website, copyright information etc.
  • 13. PHOTOSHOP CONTINUED  There were some tools used whilst editing such as layers and effects.  On Photoshop, there are many different fonts, texts and styles to chose from. After choosing our fonts and styles we were also able to position them anywhere on the advert that we wanted to. We were also able to layer images on top of the first image on here. This was useful as we wanted to include the image of our digipak and record label, iTunes sign and website. Photoshop helped us to create a professional looking finished piece.
  • 14. PHONE  We used our phones to organise the actors, our schedule, to take pictures (still shots for filming updates), weather(if the weather wasn’t right we wouldn’t be able to film for example if it was snowing we wouldn’t want those types of scenes or shot because the continuity would be different form the rest of the shots).
  • 15. EVALUATION  Prezi  Voice recorder  Blogger  YouTube  Facebook  Slide share
  • 16. PREZI AND VOICE RECORDER  Prezi was used to present evaluation question 1 because question 1 has the most information and it would have been easier and more organised if I did it through Prezi. I also needed to add YouTube clips.  The voice recorder was used for question 2 because it wasn’t as long and would have been better portrayed through a voice recorder and a video through YouTube. The video would be edited through Sony Vegas.
  • 17. BLOGGER AND YOUTUBE  YouTube was used when presenting videos, it was used in Prezi's, emaze, blogger, slide share etc. Screen shots were also taken through YouTube to show what I am trying to present clearly.  Blogger was used to present organise my work accordingly so my teacher and the examiner will know where each task is.
  • 18. FACEBOOK AND SLIDE SHARE.  Facebook was used as another platform to show our music video to our target audience and to get feedback.  Slide share is another media technology for us to present and show our work. Slide share would be used to present evaluation question 3 and 4.
