How new media technologies were used in A2 Media project
1. A2 Media: Evaluation
Question 4
HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND
RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?
2. Go Pro Hero 3+
The majority of my footage across all locations and times of my Music Video
were shot on my GoPro Hero 3+. When cycling in the different locations it was
mounted on my chest mount in order to capture the surrounding locations and
give a First-Person view of the various places. I also wanted to include the
handle bars of the various bicycles I was riding in these places as a way of
linking the shots. I.e. the locations changed, but the handle bars remained at the
base of the shot at all times. It was also used when filming my underwater shots
towards the end of the video, both in the Sea and in several swimming pools.
The GoPro is fantastic because it is portable and great for travel, but also shoots
in HD which was perfect for maintaining a high quality impression to my video.
The only slight issues with the GoPro is depending on which shots one uses,
sometimes the Fisheye effect can detract away from the quality of the shot.
Having said that, I could not have achieved the Music Video I did without my
GoPro – without doubt.
3. Canon 600D
I used the 600D for filming the beginning and concluding
sections to my music video when I am in the house, leaving it and
arriving back home. From previous experience using the Camera
at AS, I am now very competent in the use of it and seen as
though the filming I need to do was relatively simple, I didn’t
encounter any issues whilst filming the few scenes. Without the
‘Bookends’ to my video, it could have been unclear to the
message behind my video, so the filming I did the 600D was vital
to the overall impression of the Music Video.
4. Motorola G4 Plus
At very brief occasions during my video I have included footage
I shot on my phone. The reason I did this was because firstly, at
the time of shooting it was spontaneous and unplanned and
therefore secondly, I did not have a 600D or my GoPro on me
at the time. Other than those small pieces of footage, which do
in fact link my video very well as most are of the flying shots, I
did not use my phone for anything else.
5. Adobe Premiere Pro CS5
For every aspect of my A2 Music Video, I have used Adobe
Premiere Pro for editing all my footage and any editing I needed
to. The reason being as I am now the most competent using
Premiere Pro over other editing software due to the experience I
gained using it for the first time at AS. I have spent a huge
amount of time on Premiere Pro editing my video and I simply
could not have achieved a music video of the same quality and
standard without using Premiere Pro. Especially when editing a
Music Video is much harder than a Film Beginning (AS) as almost
everything has to be edited to a beat or the video would have
looked awful and not flowed well at all.
6. Adobe Photoshop CS5
For the Digipak (CD Case) and Poster we had to produce, I
used Photoshop to edit them both. This took sometime
(longer than it should have taken) due to my lack of
experience using Photoshop before. However, I knew that
for best results, I needed to use it so I worked through a
couple of basic tutorials online and used the expertise of
my peers to help me. I used the same photo as the main
one for both the CD and Poster as it is a memorable
section of my music video so to have the link of all 3 parts
together would be very effective in my opinion. I am very
happy with the final product and actually once you have
some experience using it, the tools and functions are
relatively simple to use.
7. Microsoft Office 2013
Through both my Pre-Production and Evaluation, I have used Microsoft
Office on multiple occasions – more specifically Word and PowerPoint.
For a quarter of my Evaluation (Question 3), I have used it to summarise
my audience feedback and represent my feedback clearly in a grid
format. A further quarter (Question 4) was answered using this
programme, PowerPoint. It is simple, clear and effective was of
representing a lot of information. Microsoft Office was used most in my
Pre-Prod. For various tasks such a my Recce sheet, Production Schedule
and my Target Audience. IT was invaluable to me in terms of ease and
efficiency for working. I have a lot of previous experience using all
programmes on Office, especially Word and PPT so it allowed my work
through the tasks on Office proficiently and with the best results for my
coursework.
8. SlideShare
Before A2, I had only ever used SlideShare at AS for uploading Word
documents and PowerPoints in order for me to upload them to Blogger (ref.
next slide). SlideShare has allowed to uploading process to be simple and easy
by allowing me to use an embed code to put my work onto a Blogger post. I
would have struggled to find a more effective piece of software to do this job
for me and with my previous knowledge I would not have known any other
software to do the job SlideShare does.
9. YouTube
Although rarely, YouTube was used predominantly for uploading
my complete Music Video to both my personal account and on the
School’s ‘RingwoodMedia’ account where everyone’s videos are
uploaded upon completion. I also used it for sometimes watching
my artist’s, Avicii, existing videos and also videos from the same
genre as mine (EDM)in order to create the best and most
appropriate video for my artist and genre. I believe that doing this
greatly assisted in my ability to both shoot and edit my footage in
a way that I knew would be effective to my audience.
10. Blogger
Blogger has been used at A2 Level in the same way it was at AS.
Blogger has been at the centre of everything I have done since the
beginning of the year. All of my work for my Coursework and
Theories has been uploaded to my named Blog for A2 Media
Studies. Blogger is completely customizable and it really gave my
the opportunity to create my blog exactly how I wanted, similarly
to my AS Media Blog. Every aspect of my coursework from Pre-
Production, Production and Post Production for my Music Video
has been uploaded to my blog. I had to use Slideshare (ref.
Previous Slide) to embed certain document types onto Blogger.
