3. From our audience feedback before we
begun production knowing that our product
was going to be for a band in the indie pop
genre, as this was the most popular genre
when we asked people their favourite genre.
After our final pieces were finished we asked
the same people we got research feedback
from, what they thought of our pieces and
whether they thought that our media product
seemed like a real media product and used
the same codes and conventions as real
products do.
4. They as the audience seen our product as a
definite indie piece and the theme and style
of all the pieces came across. The audience
feedback also showed that our video, website
and digipak all followed the same theme and
easily recognisable as part of the band.
Although, the audience seen errors in the
video, as the narrative of our video wasn't
completely clear and not everyone
understood what was happening. They also
found that the website was easy to navigate,
yet they believed it was quite limited in that it
consists of only one page.
5. This audience feedback taught me that, when
making a music video with narrative, the storyline must
be evident and understandable, because if people
are not able to follow the narrative, the video isn't
correctly made. Also with the digipak, I think if I was to
make it again, I would include images from the video,
this way people could instantly connect the video
and narrative to the certain band and song. With the
website, I would try to make a more layered site, with
many more pages and external links rather than a one
page site, yet I would still want the navigation of the
site to be as easy. Overall, I would try to ensure a
greater connection with the main product with the
ancillary pieces.
7. When constructing our main product, we used
final cut pro to create the video. This software
is sometimes difficult to use and it at times
takes a while to render clips. To record our
video we used a smart phone as the camera
was at a much higher quality to the other
cameras that we could have used. This
ensured that each clip was high definition and
this meant that our video was able to look like
a real media product as real music videos
would be shot with HD cameras. When using
final cut pro we were able to add a variety of
filters to our clips to give them a typical indie
look.
8. When creating our digipak I used photoshop, I found
this software easy to use as I was able to edit colours,
opacity and filters. This allowed me to create the
double exposure image that features of the front
cover of the digipak and also allowed me to
incorporate the bands logo onto my created image,
making the image look like a real media product. With
the construction of the website we used
DreamWeaver, this software proved difficult as some
of the coding had to be done manually, so someone
in our group who had experience in creating websites
wrote the code and our website turned out very good
and look like a professional website.
9. When doing my research and planning I used
different indie bands and their websites to look
for inspiration and I also looked at their music
videos on websites such as vevo and youtube.
In my evaluation I used final cut pro to make a
video evaluation for question one and two,
then microsoft powerpoint and slideshare for
question three and four. Using these media
technologies has been beneficial for me as
the presentation of my pieces, research and
planning and evaluation has been increased
significantly.
