2. They liked it!!
• The 2nd question was whether they liked it and
overall, we got:
• Out of 17 participants –
• ALL 17 LIKED THE VIDEO!!!!
3. What they thought was good?
• They enjoyed the believable and realistic
narrative
• The filming and flashbacks
• Quick Cuts
• Interesting angles
• The video reflecting the song well
4. What was not so good?
• The shaky Camera work was very much
commented in the feedback
• The narrative was often confusing for people
and although many understood it, they felt
they had to work too hard to get it.
• Transitions into flashbacks as well as grey filter
to make it clearer
• The singing… :’)
5. Did they understand the story within?
• Based on Stuart Halls reception theory:
• Dominant Reading – 10
• Preferred – 3
• Oppositional – 4
(Didn’t understand in this case)
6. Why did they not understand?
• The biggest issue they felt was the text
messages were ‘cryptic’ and they were unsure
of what chris did.
• The issue with the C hris issue is it was
meant to be left to the audience to decide,
but what was clear was he did something to
her.
• This was our downfall.
7. Did they think the video worked well
with the song…?
• YES!!!
• 17 said yes!!!!
8. What did I learn from this feedback?
• Better steadicam in future, definitely use
shoulder mount and tripod more often for
moving shots.
• Make the narrative clearer and give the
audience more to read from. There was not
enough encoded for them to decode our
messages and thus it became ‘crytpic’.
9. More that I’ve learned?
• Perhaps ask more of the actors and actresses
involved? However, this was not an issue until
it was written in the feedback.
