2. MY āARTISTā
ā¢ When choosing the actor to portray my artist I considered a variety of people as my original
plan had been to have a band of three people, however, I changed my idea due to the fact I
didnāt know of three people who really fitted the look of my genre.
ā¢ I also considered using one of my friends to be my artist, but in my mind map I stated that
they should be late teens to early twenties and I still think this will look more believable as
there are very few artists younger than late teens, regardless of the music genre.
ā¢ Because of all these different factors I have decided to use my sister as my artist, as she will
be 18/19 when the photos are taken so she visually fits the description, but also because she
happens to enjoy listening to the alternative genre of indie pop. This was something I
thought was really important as I wanted to make sure my artist was accessible to my target
audience so they feel more connected to the music, so by using someone who is essentially
part of my target audience to visually portray my music, it will reinforce the idea that my
artist is relatable and just like you and I.
3. COSTUME CHOICES
I wanted to keep the location and outfit for my images
more neutral as it is quite common in the indie pop
genre to have muted colours and a sort of transparency
within their advertisement and imagery, so having an
entirely black base for my outfit replicates this. The
photo of the mesh top Iāve included is done no justice by
the lighting, but in real life it is iridescent and shifts from
a blue to green reflection. This again is black when is bad
lighting, but hopefully when my actor wears it the lights I
use will nicely reflect small hints of the colour so itās not
overbearing. One concept I thought would be in
interesting to try out was to juxtapose the bleak
surroundings to my artist by making her very colourful. I
didnāt want to put her in an outrageous outfit but I still
wanted the subtle contrast so thought the use of face
paints or facial glitter could be a good medium to use ā
especially the glitter as it will reflect the studio lights
well.
4. PROPS AND PLACEMENT
ā¢ Props wise I donāt need anything for my artist, but I do need a glass prism for the
shoot as I thought it could be good to experiment with as it gives different effects in
different lighting, but if also reflects really nicely and again reinforces the theme of
transparency or transience.
ā¢ On the right is 4 examples of prism photography

ā¢ As for how my actor will pose, I donāt really have a
singular position or stance in mind but I know I want
to be shooting within mid shot range and maybe from a slightly downward
angle.
