2. Blue screen
I am going to use the blue screen for my front cover so that I can have a plain
background that I can manipulate on Photoshop to be black. The black
background will represent rock music because stereotypically, black is a rock
colour as it’s dark and will make the cover moody which often is the message that
people perceive when looking at rock covers. I will represent gender by using a
girl which will show that the magazine is targeted towards girls. The model will be
a student which will also represent the age of the target audience.
3. Field
I am going to use a field for an image of a group of girls that represent a girl rock
band. The shot will be a wide shot so the girls will be shown from head to toe. The
models will be in the middle of the field wearing dark clothes and dark makeup
which is represent the rock style fashion along with the gender the magazine
targets. The dark and dull location will fit the genre of rock because rock uses
dark colours to represents the genre. Here, I am following the stereotype of rock
music being moody, deep and dark by using a location that represents this too.
4. Metal bars
I have chosen this location to take pictures at because of the bricks and the metal
bars. I plan on having the models sitting in a slouched position on the bars as this will
give the impression of a moody attitude which is a stereotype in rock music that most
rock artists are moody and have an attitude. The metal bars also convey the genre
because metal represents danger and appears quite masculine. However, because
my models are girls, this will the subvert the stereotype to show the psychofemme
idea of pretty girls looking more masculine. Sub genres of rock like ‘heavy metal’ use
5. Brick wall
I am using this location of a brick wall
because it looks rustic. Rock music can
also be described as rustic with the guitar
and drum sound. This area looks worn down
and unkept which represents rock music
because rock has stereotypes of being wild,
rebellious and a having a ‘don’t care’
attitude. Using this location further conveys
these stereotypes because having the old
bricks and a model with dark clothes and
makeup will convey the rebellious, rustic
vibe of rock music. The model of a girl will
subvert the stereotype as girls are supposed
to be pretty and perfect. Here I am
representing this gender in an opposite way
to appeal to the female audience as I am
breaking stereotypes that are old fashioned
and very out dated.
