2. During the research of my music magazine I looked at how existing media products attracted their target audience, and I found that they did this by the different fonts, photo, images, language and different colours all across their designs. My target audience was girls and boys from the ages of 14-19 so when designing my magazine I had to bear in mind what style I used.
3. When I was deciding the font I was going to use, I made sure that it was informal because this would appeal to the teenage audience much more. Also I had to make sure that the font attracted their attention and that it was striking enough. Also as my target audience was for girls and boys I had to make sure it wasn’t too masculine and not too feminine. Next the actual font I used was ‘Diamond Heavy’ I used this same font throughout because that would keep the same mise-en-scene and also it would make the whole thing look more neat and professional. This font is big and bold and stands out very well. I think that these aspects are suited to my rock magazine and suited to my target audience as it draws their attention to the magazine and makes them want to pick it up.
4. When thinking about the colour scheme of my magazine I had to bare in mind that my magazine was for boys and girls so I had to make sure that the colour suited both genders. When it came to deciding my background colour I used Black because both gender’s wear black and generally see it as a good colour, and also by using black it sticks to the mise-en-scene of a rock magazine. Next the colour black makes the whole thing seem very neat and modern so this would appeal to the teenage audience because they would see it as being more professional. But then I also thought that using just black would be extremely boring so I had to use other colours to contrast with the black well and to make the font stand out more, So when deciding what colour font to use on my front cover I went for the yellow and white, because I feel that the white contrasts very well with the black and that would appeal to the contrasting views of girls and boys and also come off as very sophisticated and that would appeal more to the more mature people of my target audience. I decided on using yellow as well because I felt that this would add a little colour to the whole thing and break up some of the headlines better, this would appeal to the audience because it would bring the whole mise-en-scene away from heavy metal and hardcore music. When designing my contents page I had to make sure that it was a vibrant colour because this would relate to the very energetic aspects of the current generation of teenagers personalities, I felt that red would suite this role very well as it is a colour used for both genders. Also with using all these colours I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t too childish and that it would appeal to teenage audience.
5. I also made sure that the language I used wasn’t too childish because I didn’t want to patronize my teenage audience, so I made it as informal as possible without being childish and immature. When it came to deciding the main cover photo I had to make sure it would appeal to both genders and also make sure it looked like a rock magazine. So when I was directing the photo shoot I made sure that the ‘band’ was dressed up very casually and typically fashionable so this would appeal to the female side of my audience, and then I made the band look more serious which would appeal to the male part of my audience because they would be a lot more interested in the music that was produced. Also I felt that the band being male would appeal to the female side because they would maybe have a crush on one of them and with the boys they would aspire to be like the band musically and want to be as successful as them.
