The document provides details on the production of a music video analyzing each scene and narrative element. Scenes show a motorcyclist in an accident with flashbacks of his life. To open, point of view shots show the accident. Flashbacks in black and white show his family life in reverse order to imply his life is flashing before his eyes. Scenes include the family without the artist, the wife grieving but moving on, and the wife visiting the crash site to pay respects, finding closure. White costumes signify the artist as a ghostly presence unable to interact with his family.
2. OPENING
• To open up our music video we
collaborated our ideas and decided to
show that the artist had a motorcycling
accident through point of view shots,
medium shots and close ups. When
editing we overlapped the clips of the
artist driving to create a sequence that
implies he is traveling for a length of
time.
• We then decided to reverse the
chronology to show that we are going to
reflect upon his life using flashbacks, and
imply to the audience that his life is
flashing before his eyes, which is the
narrative of the music video that
intertwines with this narrative.
• The mise en scene shows a country road
and his accident takes place on the grass
verge, to create continuity. His costume
reflects that of a motorcyclist as he has a
classic helmet on with leather.
3. VERSE 1
• In the first verse I suggested that we
showed the artists family life with his
wife and child. I then decided it would
be a good idea if we merged the
medium shots of the three of them to
the shot of the wife and child alone as a
connotation that the family is now
broken and the artist is no longer there.
We used long shots to establish the
street location and of the park along
with a match on action and a point of
view shot so the audience can see the
artist is watching his family live without
him.
• The mise en scene shows the artist is
ghostly through the use of white
costumes and it shows the setting to be
that a family would be associated with.
4. CHORUS 1
• In this chorus we used lip syncing of the artist in the
green room with medium shots, close up, and
extreme close ups. We edited them into black and
white to imply he is no longer living so the audience
is able to distinguish between the narratives.
• We included close up shots of the wife to show her
facial expressions along with the child which shows
that the family is moving on but are still in pain.
• The clip we used of the artist behind the bars in
white is a connotation that he is a ghostly presence
and is trapped away from his family, he can’t
communicate or reach out to them.
• The shots of the family we edited into colour to show
they are still living, equally we dressed the wife in
dull colours as a connotation that she is most
affected and is not happy anymore whereas the child
is mess aware of the situation and continues to be
seen in colour.
5. VERSE 2
• For the second verse I recorded the wife
with another man in a car showing she is
moving on and is less affected now by the
road accident and seems to be getting over
it. Then however, I recorded her alone
looking at her wedding rings to show that
when she is alone she is still grieving and it
is a front she puts on to get over the loss of
her husband.
• The clips of the roads we used establish a
new diagesis and is a connotation that life
is still going on as normal regardless of the
accident, and the sunset is a connotation
for the fact that the artists life is fading
away and will disappear.
• The wife has a brighter costume here which
implies to the audience she is less troubled,
and close ups show she is still in a little
pain at the thought of her husband.
6. CHORUS 2
• We used lip syncing again in this
chorus to create continuity for the
audience, with a lot of facial
expressions and emotions used
through close ups and medium shots
of the artist.
• I also suggested we used the clips of
the wife looking at their wedding
photo and editing it to merge into the
shot of her husband in white looking
back at it over her shoulder to show
that the wife still misses her husband.
We used a film dissolve for this edit.
• Equally I decided to have another clip
here of the artist on his bike moments
before his accident to imply that the
wife is reflecting upon the accident
still, as it is black and white is is a past
event which is a constant theme
within our music video.
7. BRIDGE
• In the bridge we used shots that I
recorded of the wife visiting the road side
that her husband had an accident on. She
took flowers which is a symbol of respect
and love, which she lays down. We used
match on action shots, close ups, long
shots, and over the shoulder shots to
show this event as it was a big step for
the wife to do. We used cut away’s that
reflected upon the accident to remind
the audience why she is paying her
respects.
• We edited the flashbacks in black and
white and the present day in colour so
the audience could easily identify the
difference.
• The wife also has a different costume on
here to show that it is a different day.
8. CHORUS 3
• In the ending chorus we used lip syncing
again as it is a theme of our choruses with
cut away’s of the family life with the artist
wearing all white to imply he isn't there
and is a ghost or angel. White is a
connotation of pure which is what people
associate with angels.
• To end the music video we decided to have
a long shot of the child playing happily on a
slide to show that she is moving on and
growing up without her father around. We
edited the speed of the shots to have more
of an impact on the audience by making
them slower.
• The last clip we used is a repeated clip of
the wife holding the flowers which is
reversed and in slow motion before it fades
to black as this will have a lasting impact
upon our audience as it shows the wife has
found closure and will move on.
