My Idea
The concept for my product is a feminism/wellbeing fanzine, the fanzine is targeted at both men and women,
but will mainly be designed and constructed for a female audience as I think they will be more interested in
the fanzine. The fanzine is a diverse and unique edition as it was mainly feature photoshoots, the main aspect
of the fanzine is photography and most of the ideas for my photoshoots are inspired by mental wellbeing. I
think it could be risky including photography inspired by mental wellbeing due to trigger warnings but if done
responsibly and respectfully. There will also be articles and illustrations in the fanzine for variety and to
engage the readers. I have planned a range of different ways I can include illustrations and animations I can
involve in my fanzine through my problem-solving research. My fanzine will also include content about
feminism and the power of women as this is an important aspect of the fanzine, but the photography will be
mainly aimed at mental wellbeing. The two main recurring features of the fanzine will be mental wellbeing
and feminism but as well as these the fanzine will also have articles and photography relating to student/young
adults due to the target age group being 16 - 25, I will include articles about life and normal issues to break up
the serious topics and, also to introduce a different assortment of materials. Hopefully, my fanzine will include
an array of different pieces of art from different people. I decided to create a fanzine because I was interested
in making a magazine, but I decided that a fanzine gives me more freedom and the independence to create my
own structure.
Time Schedule
Colour Scheme
My fanzine is different to other products as it doesn’t follow any specific theme or a strict colour scheme, this is because the fanzine layout creates it’s own structure that doesn’t
obey any traditional magazine structures. A magazine would usually have a group of coordinated colours that were used frequently through the magazine to give the magazine a
certain vibe, the consistency of the same colours gives the magazine a regular flow which consequently makes the magazine feel more put together and thought through. The
colour scheme can completely change the aesthetic of the product depending on what colours are used. There are certain connotations with different groups/shades of colour, the
stigmas that some colours carry is a very important thing to take into consideration because it can change the interpretation of the fanzine for the
reader. For example, colour schemes that include pastel pinks and purples will always be used as stereotypes against girls, describing the colours as
’girly’ and ‘feminine’. So, for my fanzine I want to make sure that I stay clear of setting colours like this for the colour scheme because I don’t want
the colours to define women, women should be defined as a vary of colours for different reasons, not just pink because it’s girly. In my fanzine I will
obviously still use these colours occasionally if it suits the page. I decided to look at other colour schemes that would follow different themes to see if
there were any that I would be interested in including in my fanzine that was better suited. Instead of specifically searching for colour schemes I
decided to search a topic and then the word aesthetic after, then I would take colours from the group of photos I was given, this technique gives me
colours that are more accurate to the themes I’m searching.
To start the aesthetic - colour scheme technique I thought it was important to search ‘feminist aesthetic’ I knew the type of
result that I would get but still thought it would be useful to my production to explore feminist aesthetics. As I said the colour
pink is usually used to describe women as it is stereotypically girly, however In a lot of recent feminists instead of rejecting the
colour for it’s stigma they embrace the bright colour and match it with strong powerful quotes and statements in order to give
the colour strength. The colour pink is covered all over a lot of feminism mood boards. Also, a bright colours like blue and
purple are often used to promote feminism.
Next I searched ‘mental health aesthetic to see what kind of colours were usually used in this kind of theme, I had less
knowledge about this kind of aesthetic because it isn’t as talked about on social media as feminism is. The type of aesthetic and
colours used were similar to feminism in some ways. The mental health results shared the block colour vibe, I think this style is
very popular and common at the moment for posted motivational quotes to. The colours used are different to the colours from
feminism, although a few posts feature the colour pink. The main colours used are what would be stereotypically interpreted as
‘unisex’ colours like orange, yellow and green. I think this is because these colours are the most welcoming and often
associated with qualities like peacefulness and happiness.
Another style that I discovered while searching for different aesthetics I found a lot of posts that were just black and white, this
makes sense because mental wellbeing can often be associated with darkness. The black writing on a white/pale background
with a black illustration is a very common style used in the mental health aesthetic, I really like this style and can see multiple
different ways I can bring it into my own product.
Colour Scheme
For my photography I’m not going to have a specific colour scheme as most of my shoots are taken in different places with different
lightings so to attempt to include a specific colour to each photo would be too difficult and wouldn’t look effective with my work
because each different shot has a different aesthetic and theme, so to label them with a certain colour would make them ineffective and
take away the character and uniqueness of each shoot. So, to add a specific colour scheme with a limited number of colours to the
photography is something that I wouldn’t be interested in exploring, however, after looking into different ways that I could make my
photos have a similar aesthetic I discovered more information about the two integral parts of the colours in a photo, the hue and
saturation. Hue is one of the main aspects of a colour it is described as ‘the degree to which a stimulus can be described as similar to or
different from stimuli that are described as red, green, blue, and yellow’ so it is really what the colour is called at first sight. The
saturation describes how intense the colour is, it describes the deepness of the colour, this chart shows how the saturation works. The
redder the image, the higher the saturation. These aspects are important to my photography work because they represent and symbolize
different things in a photo, for example, like I was saying before the colour of a photo immediately suggests a stigma or stereotype that
is automatically associated with the colour. Here is a mind map including different information I found about colours and their attributes.

Filmmaker. Available: https://nofilmschool.com/Film-color-theory-and-color-
schemes. Last accessed 13 Mar 2020.
To explore the different levels of hue and saturation and explore how they work I decided to take a photo that I took in my problem
solving research and edit the hue and saturation of it in Photoshop to see if there were anyways that I could apply the same edits in my
own photos to give the photos a authentic and distinctive characteristics.
The tool is easy to use and easy to control the settings, here are some examples of me figuring out the hue/saturation tools:
Test with hue
Level +100
Test 1 with saturation
Level -100
Test 2 with saturation
Level +100
Doing the experiments and messing around with the hue and saturation was
useful because it showed me how extreme the settings can be, it also showed
me what differences they both cause.
In my project I am not interested in changing the hue levels as I think it is too
intense and not subtle, I also don’t need any photos that are this late. However,
after shooting some of my photos might develop to dark and lifeless, in this
case I would use the hue gently to make the photo brighter and more colorful.
I think I will use the saturation tool in my first chapter of the photography
because I want the photos to have a dark and lighting to follow the topic of
‘The Withering’.
TheTitle
An important part of the fanzine is the name of it. This is important because the title is the first thing that will attract the readers. The
name will determine the aesthetic and the overall vibe of the product, a strong, unique name is more likely to stick with readers and
be more memorable. The aim is to have a name that is unforgettable, so it stays in the readers minds. However, I want the title to be
unique and thoughtful and not something obvious and common. The titles of traditional fanzines vary, the oldest and one of the most
popular fanzines is called ‘Riot Grrrl’ this title is very exclusive and self explanatory, arguing with normality by spelling ‘girl’ as
‘grrrl’. The title almost immediately explains the theme of the fanzine, whereas sometimes the title can vary and have no obvious
relevance to the topic of the fanzine, for example, a fanzine I researched awhile ago called ‘Sunlight peaks through the curtains’.
To collect my ideas together I decided to use the website bubbl.us so create a mind map.

The Equipment I need
To produce this fanzine I am reliant on a range of different pieces of equipment because my fanzine has a lot of different layers and aspects. The first most integral equipment I
need to be able to produce the fanzine is access to computer software's such as, Photoshop, Premiere, and InDesign.

The first page that the readers will see is front cover, so the front cover is a very
important aspect of the fanzine and needs to be tailored correctly so that it’s not
misleading to the subject of the zine. But it also needs to be provocative enough to
leave a layer of mystery and enigma to interest the reader and make them read it.
Fanzine front covers usually include little – no information about the fanzine, which is
very contrasting from a magazine cover which will include an array of different
features, e.g. barcodes, price, masthead, main coverline. However as a fanzine doesn’t
follow the same strict structure it doesn’t need to have anything on the front, I prefer
this layout as I think it is more modern.
So, to embrace the simplistic structure I decided for the cover I would have just a photo
and then the name of the fanzine, underneath the title I’m going to have the definition
of the word – as a subheading – because obviously the word is very uncommon and
quite random.
The photo on the cover will be of young girl behind a sheet of white card paper with a
hole that looks like it’s been ripped through, the young girl’s face and part of her
neck/shoulders will be seen through the hole in the card, her facial expression will be
KKK and passionate, the expression will be a straight face, with a slightly over the
shoulder shot and intense eye contact with the camera. The purpose of this look is to
obtain the secrecy of the photo. The fact the model is on the other side of the card
looking at the camera on her own in solitude creates an interesting illusion, the illusion
being whether she’s looking out through the card at you, or is she’s on the other side
and your looking through the card at her. This creates an interesting dynamic because as
the reader we don’t know who’s in control.
Also, the serious face is a nice juxtaposition with the title of the fanzine ‘ a pure and
well-balanced mind, a good spirit. Beautiful thinking ’ hopefully this intrigues the
reader, encouraging them to read.
For this shoot the model will wear basic makeup, you won’t really be able to tell she’s
wearing makeup because it’ll just be essentials, just enough to make her look skin look
bright and to enhance her features. She will wear; concealer, mascara and eyebrow
products. Her hair will be down and tucked behind her ears so you can clearly see her
face, her hair will be straightened.
Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it’ll cost
The front cover.
‘Euvoia’
- For this shoot I don’t need that much equipment
as the idea is quite simple and requires little
props.
- The first piece of equipment I need is a big piece
of card that should take up all of the camera
shot. This means the card needs to be A3 or
bigger. I can easily find this in College supplies
or at a stationary shop.
- I need a model to be on the other side of the
card. Through my project I have multiple
photoshoots and I want the model to be wearing
minimal, natural makeup because I think when
models wear less makeup it looks more life like
and relatable for the reader.
- For this shoot I will need a camera, battery,
memory card and a tripod. I also need studio
lights.
- I need the paper because the photo is shot
through the paper to look like someone is on
the other side through the paper. So, without
the paper the photo would be pointless.
- I need the model to be the subject of the
photo behind the card. The aim of the shoot
is to have it look as though behind the card
she is in a different world on her own.
- To take the photos with the best quality and
make sure that the camera doesn’t run out of
storage or charge, and the tripod to keep the
camera still and propped up. I need the
studio lights to light the front of the photo to
highlight the models face.
- The A3 paper should be free if I can find
it at college. However if there isn’t any I
found a £3.80 A3 notepad with 5 blank
pages in that I can purchase.
- For this the model I'm using is my sister
so she will happily conduct the shoot for
free.
- This equipment is free because I can get
it from College.
Location Why I need it How much it’ll cost
- I need a studio room with a black screen
background
- I need this background because a black screen
will create the right mysterious and intense
effect against the white card.
It’s also effective using a studio because it
makes the photo look more professional.
- I talked earlier about how I should be able
to use the studio room at college but if it’s
all booked up for the times I need then I
will have to book my own studio which
would cost £30 per hour.
The Withering page is the second page of the fanzine. Usually a magazine would include a contents page explaining what each page would feature, I wanted to include a
contents page as I think it would make the fanzine easier to read and would show readers what the fanzine had to offer, however I wanted to embrace the traditional
fanzine style and to make my fanzine authentic I needed to carry on without a contents page. So, the first page is a double page spread to introduce the first chapter of the
zine, ‘The Withering’. The withering is a chapter about mental health when it’s at it’s worth or when it’s ‘withering’. This chapter includes different pieces of
photography that are associating with how mental health can look on people and the physical affects it has on people, hibernating bad thoughts in their heads. The first
chapter is symbolic as it introduces the whole fanzine, it is a risky chapter as depending on the reader and their interpretation it could be boring and hard to understand
but from a different point of view it could be enduring. So, with the chapter being so important I wanted to introduce it in a unique and edgy way that would make it
stand out and promote its importance. So, for the first page of the double page spread I have staged a photoshoot. The photoshoot appears to be a young girls head and
part of her hand appearing from heavy mist with withered flowers decorated around her. The emerging of her head from the mist is very symbolic and interesting, it
signifies her almost drowning in the mist, the fact she’s drowning, and the rest of her body being submerged suggests that her head is the last thing to go, the point of
drowning proposes that she’s not under control and something is pulling her down, this is all routed deep in the imagination so whether readers associate this altogether is
a risk, however I think it is quite an easy link to make, especially if the model has a look of instability. Also, with her head and part of her hand a float and the tranquillity
and calmness of her body posture it shows she isn’t fighting to get out, she’s stuck and she’s content with being there, like she doesn’t have the energy try and escape the
mist. Not only is the body posture and mist significant but the withering follows positioned around her are a massive hint to the underlying subject of the photo. The
withered flowers can represent different things, I searched on Google ‘what do withered flowers represent’ and this was the most popular result ‘s a sign of melancholy,
depression, and regret about the past. In addition, they can symbolize a fake relationship with a loved one if you dreamed that the luxurious shrubs were blooming and
sweet-smelling next to them.’ Which is a common interpretation of withered flowers and just adds more mysterious connotations to the photo.
The withering flowers around the mist have an obvious association with the name of the chapter, the chapter is named after the flowers around the mist to make the page
look balanced, the chapter is called the withering because of the flowers but also because the photos in the chapter can be interpreted as the withering of a person.
This photoshoot look quite complicated to conduct however it is quite simple. For the shoot I full up the bath with water and then add milk to discolour the bath water
making it appear white, then I’ll add withered flowers/petals around the bath and then have the model in the bath. The model will be in the bath fully submerged apart
from her face and hand. Her hair will be slit back because the water will wet it and make it stick to her head, making her face clearly exposed to the camera. After this set
I will make sure the room has the correct lighting so that when I take the photo the bath water looks misty. For the shoot I will have to use the camera with flash on in
order to get the most effective result. The makeup she wears will be very similar to the first shoot with minimal makeup used only concealer, mascara and eyebrow
products.
So far, I’ve been looking through different fonts for the heading and through Dafonts searching
‘flower’ in order to find a font that matches the aesthetic of the page. Here are a few that I found.
My favourite is Flower Child because it is flowery and innkeeping but it also has a creepy twinge
to it.
Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost
‘The Withering’
and
‘The Blossoming’
- Flowers, I will need at least three flowers for this
photoshoot, the colour/type of the flower doesn’t
particularly matter as long as they are quite vibrant
and stand out. To get the flowers I will go to a shop
on Bishopthorpe road the is near my house and
sells a wide range of flowers, it also sells single
flowers which would be useful to my project as I
don’t need an entire bouquet. I need fully
blossomed flowers for one shoot but for the second
I need petals that look withered.
- Milk, I need at least2/3 litres of milk in order to
discolour the bath water, the type of milk doesn’t
matter. I can get this from the shop near me
- I need a model for the photoshoot, the model
ideally needs to be someone who was a young
adult with minimal make up on so she looks
natural.
- For this shoot I will need a camera, battery and
memory card.
- I need flowers in the bath because the flowers are
going to signify the beginning and end of each
photography chapter, so for each chapter I’m going
to feature a different stage of the a flower
blossoming. The mental wellbeing photography in
my fanzine is separated into two shoots; The
withering and The Blossoming. For the first shoot
the flower’s petals will symbolise the withering of
the flower to symbolize getting worse, then for the
second shoot I need a flower that is nearly
blossoming to symbolize getting better
- I need the milk to put in a bathtub full of water
because it will hopefully discolour the bath water so
when I take a photo the water will look misty and
mysterious.
- For the shoot I obviously need a model, I need a
model because she will be in the bath with just hr
face and a bit of her hand looking like she has
emerged from the tub.
- To take the photos with the best quality and make
sure that the camera doesn’t run out of storage or
charge.
- Flowers are usually quite expensive
for fully blossomed, pretty flowers.
I looked the shop on Bishopthorpe
‘Debbie's Flowers’. I couldn’t find
the pricing on her website anywhere
but when I looked at her Facebook
page I saw this which means that is
is quite an expensive, luxury item.
- Milk is usually £0.85p per litre. So
3+ would be at least £2.55
- For this the model I'm using is my
sister so she will happily conduct
the shoot for free. And, there is no
transport to pay for either of us
because it is shot in the bath at my
house.
- This equipment is free because I
can get it from College.
Location Why I need it How much it will cost
I need a bathtub for the photoshoot to be shot in. The
bath tub is the main setting for the shoot and will be
the only background you see.
A bathtub will be easily accessible because I have one
at home that is the correct size and shape.
The bath tub is free because it is at my
house.

My third page is the second page of the double spread for the withering, the second page goes hand in hand with the milk bath photo
as they come together. I didn’t want to start the chapters photography on the second page as I thought each photoshoot should get its
own double page spread instead of having to share with the introductory page. So, I had to find something that would match the milk
bath photo, I thought this would be quite difficult because the photo is so captivating and full of colour that anything that was on the
page next to it would look overpowered and the double page spread would look quite amateur. So, I decided not to have a second
photoshoot next to it, instead I thought it would be a nice idea if I just included a black and white poem next to it to describe the
upcoming sequence of photos. I wanted to include poetry in my fanzine because I think sometimes poetry can speak to people on a
deep and private level, the way that articles and photos don’t always achieve. For the layout of the page I’m just going to have the
poem in black writing with a white background, then if the page looks boring, I might think about using the graphics tablet to include
some illustrations, however I don’t want it to look like Rupi Kaur’s work. So, as I’m not a poetry writer and wouldn’t know where to
start to create an effective poem I decided to search for some online that would match my photos. After looking at a range of different
potential poems I found a website called ‘hello poetry’. This website publishes amateur poet’s work. I looked through a lot of poems
until I found a poet called Caterina Correia who has published 366 poems with 29.9k words, although she only has 6 followers. The
poem of hers that I want to use is called ‘Gravity’, the original version is 48 lines long I don’t plan on using the whole poem as this
would be too much for the reader and probably disengage them, for the page I plan on using only 6/8 lines. I like this poem because it
is simple and only has a few, words where most of them are repetitive but still manages to be extremely descriptive.
The lines I want to use are either:
1. I'm struggling to talk or
Its making me silent
I'm struggling to breathe
Its making me hyperventilate
I'm struggling to swallow
Its making me choke
I'm struggling to see
Its making me blind
I'm struggling to be
happy
Its making me depressed
I'm struggling to laugh
Its making me cry
I'm struggling to be calm
Its making me angry
Here
is the
full-
length
poem
However, in order to be allowed to publish the poem in my fanzine I will have to message the poet and ask if I have her
permission to use it as it isn’t mine. On the website there is a ‘message’ option, however when I went to message it is said to join
the website I had to be ‘invited’ to the community and couldn’t just join.
As her poems are published on the website I assume

This shoot is called ‘The three wise monkeys which is a play on the traditional three wise monkeys, the three monkeys are
Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth,
who speaks no evil. People believe that if you follow these three steps then you are avoiding all evil, however philosophers will
argue that there are different rules and more things to consider like utilitarianism instead of just following these simple rules. The
monkeys make being good seem so simple and obtainable by not saying, speaking or seeing any evil. The three wise monkeys
are suspected to have been around for two thousand years and are a monument frequently referred to all around the world.
I thought that for my next page it would be quite interesting to include a sequence of photos with a person discreetly mirroring
the actions of the three wise monkeys. However, to make it match the theme of my photos and fit in with the mental health aspect
of it I decided to twist the story of the three wise monkeys, so instead of wise make the three foolish monkeys, a play on the
traditional tale. With this I will take three pictures with someone in the same positions, with their hands over their ears, mouth
and eyes, but it won’t be positioned as calmly as the three wise monkeys, the model will look distressed. The oppositional
adjective of foolish compared to wise will hopefully portray to the audience that instead of not saying/doing evil instead s/he has
said/done evil. I like this shoot as I think it is quite meaningful and planned carefully.
For the shoot I’m going to have two different models, a young women and a young man in order to introduce a male perspective
because through the fanzine so far it has only featured a female and her perspective. I also think it will be interesting to see the
differences and similarities for the male vs female shoot.
Then after I have taken a photo for each type of monkey, I will take the photos to Photoshop, once they are downloaded on
different layers, I will change the opacity on each layer so that the layers will merge into each other.
For this shoot the clothes that the models are wearing won’t matter because only the top of the shoulders will be seen. But for the
makeup on the girl I’m going to carry follow my aesthetic with a subtle amount of makeup, however, for this shoot I’d prefer if
the model wasn’t wearing concealer, and I might even apply brown eyeshadow under the eyes to enhance black bags portraying
the model as tired. This shot will be shot in a white studio room, so the lighting is very important, for the lighting I want their to
be a healthy amount of light so that we can really see the details in the photo, but I don’t want it to be overly white making the
photo look positive, so with the studio lights I will only use two, to highlight the faces but not stream the photo.

The Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost
‘The Three Foolish Monkeys’
- For this shoot I don’t need a lot of
equipment because I am just reliant
on the model and her facial
expressions and emotion. I need a
two young models, a boy and a girl.
- For this shoot I will need a camera,
battery, memory card and a tripod. I
also need studio lights.
- I need a boy and a girl to represent
that boys can also go through the
same emotions and feelings instead of
just focusing on girls.
- To take the photos with the best
quality and make sure that the camera
doesn’t run out of storage or charge,
and the tripod to keep the camera still
and propped up. I need the studio
lights to light the front of the photo to
highlight the models face.
- The models again won’t cost because
I can get my college peers to feature
in the shoot. I won’t pay them but in
return will feature in their project.
- This equipment is free because I can
get it from College.
Location Why I need it How much it will cost
- I need a studio room with a white
screen background
-I need a white background because I
think if it was black then it would shift
focus from the models in the photo but I
want the attention to be strictly on them.
- I talked earlier about how I should be
able to use the studio room at college
but if it’s all booked up for the times I
need then I will have to book my own
studio which would cost £30 per
hour.
The next pages are 4,5 and 6,7 the pages are a series of the same photoshoot. This
photoshoot is called ‘The bed feels bigger’. The shoot is a women in a bed curled up
in different positions that suggest she can’t sleep and suggest that she has something
on her mind, e.g. curled in a ball shape. The first shot will be the empty bed, then the
following will have her in it. The point of the shoot is just to relate to that feeling
when you can’t sleep when something’s on your mind. The name is associated with
the shoot because it’s implying that she lost the person who used to sleep in the bed
with her, and now that that person has left the bed feels bigger because the space, they
used to take up has gone, leaving her to sleep in it alone.
This shot is different to other pages because it is the first shoot where the model is
supposedly caught of guard without their face in shoot. Other shoots have all featured
the model acknowledging the camera by looking into the lens, but this time the
subject is in bed and unaware of the camera.

Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost
‘The bed feels bigger’
- I need a double bed. Ideally I need the sheets to
be white and plain for the most effective results.
I also need just one pillow on the bed.
- I need a model for my shoot, the makeup the
model wears isn’t as important as other shoots
because the face will be covered.
- I want to include the same series with a boy
model instead, however I think it might be
difficult to find a male model for this shoot.
- I need a double bed because the
bigger the bed the smaller the
subject will look on it and I want
the subject to look little in
comparison to the bed. I also want
the sheets to be white because if
they were patterned or a certain
colour I think they would look quite
childish and throw the tone of the
shoot, making readers take it less
seriously. I want to have one pillow
on the bed instead of two because
one signifies that she is on her own
in the bed.
- I need her to be the subject of the
photo and lie on the bed.
- I want to include one of the shots
from a male perspective as well to
share awareness for male mental
wellbeing.
- This shouldn’t cost anything
because at my house I have a
double bed and white sheets, so
these should be easily obtainable.
- For this the model I'm using is my
sister so she will happily conduct
the shoot for free. And, there is no
transport to pay for either of us
because it is shot in my room at my
house.
- Hopefully, I can find a male friend
or college student to be in the shoot
but if not, I would think about
hiring a model.
Location Why I need it How much it will cost
- The location would be in a bedroom with a
double bed.
- I need it to be set in a bedroom
because the shoot needs to look like
it is realistically someone at home.
- This shouldn’t cost anything because
again it is shot at my house.
Page 8, 9 are the last for the first series of photos in the first chapter of ‘The
Withering’ and it ends with two photos of a letter on a door with an old shoebox on
the doorstep. The pages are called ‘the things you left behind’ The letter is filled with
stereotypical pointless things that an Ex would accidently leave behind after a
breakup the letter lists things that were left behind but then at the end it includes ‘my
heart’ as the last thing, including ‘my heart’ at the end identifies that the subject of the
letter has left and subsequently broke her heart by leaving her behind. Putting the ‘my
heart’ at the end of the list speaks massive amounts because it indicates that the heart
he left behind is as insignificant to you as a pair of earphones are. Comparing the
disregard of the loss of your cufflink is the same as the neglection of your heart. This
shoot should be quite emotive for a reader who has experienced a messy breakup.
For the photoshoot I need a sunny day because by having the letter stuck to a door it
means that I have to be outside and therefore reliant on the weather. If the weather is
sunny it will make a better photo as if it’s raining it will effect the lighting and
exposure making the photo worse quality. An advantage of this shoot is that it
shouldn’t take long and doesn’t require a complicated set up, so if the weather is nice
then I could immediately go out and shoot.
Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost
‘The things you left behind’
- I need a white A4 blank piece of
paper.
- A pen to write with.
- Tape.
- I need this to write all the ‘thing
you left behind’ on. I’m using a
plain white piece of paper because
it is the most realistic as if this
were real then a person would use
just a white piece of paper and
nothing fancy.
- I need a pen obviously to write the
items on. What colour the pen is
doesn’t make a difference.
- I need tape to stick the note to the
door
- I can easily access this from
college for free.
- I can also get this from college for
free or find a pen from home.
- This is easily accessible at college
Location Why I need it How much it will cost
- For the location I just need a door.
The door can be anywhere and
doesn’t need to be a certain colour or
type.
- The door is the background because
it’s meant to look like ’the ex’ has
stuck in onto his door for him to find.
- This won’t cost anything as I can use
any door.

Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost
- For this shoot I need a small bandeau
top. Preferably a light colour, like white
or skin tone.
- I need a model.
- Glitter, any colour, maybe a gold
symbolic colour.
- I need this because for the shoot you’ll
just be able to see the models shoulders
and a bit of her back, so with a bandeau
it’ll look like she’s not wearing
anything and hopefully her hair will
cover the bandeau. This is for an artistic
effect because the idea of her sitting in
the wilderness makes her appear open
and free.
- I need a model for the subject of the
photo, to sit in the middle of the
wooded area in the middle to symbolize
balance and harmony.
- The glitter is for the second photo to
com from her mouth.
- A small bandeaux isn’t expensive. From
looking online I found a small light
pink bandeau for £6.00.
- For this the model I'm using is my sister
so she will happily conduct the shoot
for free. There could be possible
transport fees for us both depending
where we plan on shooting.
-There are a range of different colour
glitters from Claire's for £3.00 each, so if I
wanted to mix two colours I would need to
spend £6.00
Location Why I need it How much it will cost
- The location for this shoot needs to be in
a wooded area, preferably with a lake. A
location I thought of was York Railway
pond and reserve. The pond is photogenic
and open which is perfect for the shoot.
- I need this location for the shoot because
a wooded area with a pond suggests
peacefulness and harmony.
- This wont cost anything as it is an open
reserve for anyone going past.
- There will be not additional travelling
cost because the reserve is a 17 minute
walk or 3 minute drive from my house.

Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost
‘Live like it’s the 90’s’
- For this photoshoot the only
equipment I need is my phone and a
charger
- I only need a model and then I am
reliant on the locations.
- I only need my phone because for
this photoshoot I’m using the app
HUJI which is only downloadable on
my phone not the camera. I need a
charger incase the phone runs out of
charge.
- I need the model in the photos.
- This will not cost anything because
I’, using my own phone and the app
is free.
- For this the model I'm using is my
sister so she will happily conduct the
shoot for free. The photoshoot is
based in Liverpool as it is an
upcoming and photogenic city. I will
have to pay for the transport for both
of us to get there. The prices range
depending on what train I use, the
standard price for an adult return
with two weeks advance notice is
£50.70.
Location Why I need it How much it will cost
- Liverpool Jamaica Street, The
Liverpool Wings
- The Tate Museum
- I’ve chosen to conduct part of my
shoot here because the Liverpool
Wings are a very well known
monument.
- I want to conduct a shot in the Tate
museum because I feel like art
museum’s are not as popular now
that art can be looked at in photos, I
also liked the arty-cultural aesthetic.
- This will be free.
- The Tate Museum is a Museums that
relies just on donations from visitors,
the preferred donation is £4.00.
Finance on props/equipment altogether
The piece of equipment The price
A3 paper £3.80
Studio room £30 per hour.
Flowers From the ‘ ‘ I would assume for the
amount of flowers I want it would be around £10 - £12.
Milk £0.85 per litre at Tesco's, so at least £2.55.
The prop The price A picture of the prop
Pink bandeau £6.00
Glitter £3.00 each, or £6.00 for two.
Train tickets to Liverpool £50.70 each, £101.40 for two.
Tate Museum donation £4.00 preferred donation
Total of the props/
equipment
£165.75
Altogether the price of the equipment and props I need in production is £165.75. This seems like a lot of money for
production, however, this is all the worst-case scenario prices, so this pricing through production will most likely not
hit this number, this planning is just so if I do have to take each precaution then I know how much it would cost.
Finance – Location, models, Equipment, paper
According to my plans my project shouldn’t be too dependent on any extreme finance costs. And if so, I should be able to find the funds myself as they aren’t
anything extravagant.
Photoshoots
The first aspect of production where I might need to plan my finance is in the Photoshoots. I plan on conducting multiple photoshoots in different locations. So far
most of my planned photoshoots don’t require me to book/reserve any locations that would make me pay. A location I need that I would need to be reliant on someone
for is the Studio Room at college, this won’t cost anything as it is free for York College media students to use, the only issue would be if there was no bookings left not
allowing me to use the room. In this case I would have to hire out a similar room. I looked online to find any studios that would be suitable for me, I found a studio on
8 Bridge Street called York Digital Media that hired a photography room out for £30 an hour, this price is quite reasonable compared to others, so if there wasn’t a
compatible time for me to conduct my photoshoots at college I could hire the room out for an hour. Although to cut costs I will just book the studio room in advance to
be sure I’ve got it.
One of my shoots circulate around the Liverpool as it’s an interesting and photogenic city, I have planned places to visit in Liverpool in preparation for the day, most
places are outside and/open to the public however some of the locations might cost. For example, one of the locations I have planned to visit to conduct my Photoshoot
is a Liverpool hot spot called ‘Me Oh My’ building with an impressive view from the rooftop, the building is a café and requires you have food to be able to see the
rooftop garden, so this could cost maximum £10. Secondly, in Liverpool I wanted to visit an art gallery/ museum to involve culture, however I thought that this could
be quite expensive. So, I conducted some research and discovered that the Tate Museum Liverpool is funded reliant on donations, the preferred donation is £4 per
person. So far, the other shoots are set in locations that I don’t need to pay for.
Camera Equipment
For the camera equipment there shouldn’t be any pieces of equipment that I need to pay for, my project is unlike other projects and doesn’t depend on excessive,
expensive equipment tools. All pieces of equipment I need I can get through York College. As it stands for my project I will need; a camera, a memory card, a battery,
and a tripod, through the production my photoshoots might require some extra equipment, but it should be available through college.
Models
For my shoot I’m not planning on using professional models so this will defiantly help save the money I have to spend on other more important things. However, if I
was interested in involving paid models, I thought I could visit the fashion/design or drama students and see if they had any potential students interested in gaining
some model experience, this would be a lot cheaper then having to pay for a professional model.
paper
The paper I print the fanzine out on is the most expensive and trickiest aspect of the finance.
Camera Shot
and Angle type
In my project so far, I have referred to camera work because the smallest difference in angling can change the entire
perspective of the photo, giving them a completely different feeling or meaning. Here is a brief explanation of the angle
types that I could use in my photography: Point of View , Birds Eye View, high angle, low angle. For my project I intend
on using a range of different angles. The other aspect of photography work which is just as important as angle type is
shot type, shot type contains a lot more differentiations; extreme wide shot, long shot, wide shot, full shot, medium long
shot, medium shot, medium close up, close up, extreme close up and over the shoulder shot..
For my project the angle and shot type is very important because my photos are all about creating a aesthetic and a
specific impression that it leaves on the reader, and as I said earlier the angle/shot can completely change the tone of the
photo if the wrong one is chosen.
For my project I plan on using different angles and shots to keep it interesting but a lot of my shoots do follow the same
style, I think this is risky because the readers might get bored of the same structure, but I think it is an effective way to
brand the photos but it is also important to give them their own personal style.
Chapter 1
Planning the angles and shots for my shoots
Shot/angle 1 My first shoot is my front cover, judging chronologically and not in order of production. For this shoot I
have planned it as a medium – close up shot using a POV angle (point of view angle). I have decided to use a medium-
close up for this shot because although I think a close up shot would look really effective I think it would be slightly too
intense for the front cover, a close up shot would be good because you would defiantly be able to convey emotion and
passion as we had get a powerful view of her face expression, but I think that would be too harsh for the cover. First, I
would rather set the tone of the fanzine with a less overpowering photo. I decided to use a point of view angle because I
like the eye contact that it felt through the POV angle, it creates a more intimate and relatable atmosphere on the page.
The POV angle is often used on covers to grab people’s attention as the intensive glare is difficult to ignore. I also think
it was the angle that was most suitable for the shot, it allows us to properly understand the photo.
Shot/angle 2 My second photoshoot is the ‘The Withering’ and ‘The Blossoming’ shoot. I will conduct this shoot using
a medium – close up/ with a bird's eye view, this is the same shot type as the first shoot because both shoots rely on the
focus on the models face to fully understand the photo. A medium – close up is applicable for this shoot because
although the focus is on the models face and her facial expression the focus will shift to the nature of her setting, the
photo will look like she is in mist with flowers, this setting is to set a mysterious and alluring scene to entice the readers
so a close up shot would waste the background and subsequently ruin the aesthetic of the shot. The angle is from a birds
eye view, I will take the photo from above the model with the model looking up at the camera, it will e a birds eye view
because if I take it on the side or face on I risk being able to see beyond the bath tub and this would ruin the photo. The
birds eye view with the model following the camera with her eyes will look quite captivating and inviting.
Camera Shot
and Angle type
Shot/angle 3 My third shoot is the ‘The three wise monkeys’ , for this shoot I will have the camera positioned in a medium – close up shot
with a POV, medium angle, featuring the model’s face and part of their shoulders. The medium - close up shot is perfect for this shot because
the photo is meant to portray a lot of emotion and angst so a medium close up shot is close enough to grab the model’s expression but there’s
also enough room to set the scene with the shoulders and enough space to see the background. The POV angle is so that we can properly see
the model’s face, also following the traditional picture of ‘the three wise monkeys’ we always see the monkeys from a medium shot.
Shot/angle 4 My next photoshoot is ‘the bed feels bigger’ this photo finally ventures away from the same medium – close up shot I've been using, for this shoot I will take
the photo using a bird’s eye view angle with a long shot. This shoot features a bird’s eye view shot because the point is to see the subject in a position in which she looks
distressed on the bed, for this we need to see the position she’s doing and have the setting of the bed, the only way to effectively capture all this in one clear, descriptive shot
is to use a birds eye view. And I am using a long shot to fit the whole scene in, the long shot will successfully set the scene and is appropriate for the scene because with this
shot you don’t need to see the model’s face, therefore, a close up shot would be pointless.
Shot/angle 5 and 6 My last shoot in the first photography chapter of my fanzine is the ‘The things you left behind’ shot, this is quite a straightforward shot as it doesn’t
have any model’s or live subjects in it, the first shot will be a long shot so that the whole door is featured to set the scene, the second shot will be a medium – close up shot so
that we can read the writing on the letter, but, not a close up shot, so we can still see a bit of the door.
Chapter 2
Shot/angle 7 and 8 The first shoot in my second chapter of the fanzine is the shoot at the York Railway Pond, the first photo will me taken at an extreme long shot, with a
medium, POV, angle. The shot will be taken using an extreme long shot in order to capture the scenery of the photo because for this shoot the scenery is one of the most
important aspect as it sets the scene and helps tell the story of the picture as well as the model. The shot will be at a medium, POV, angle because with the angle we can get
the whole view of the pond and the greenery around instead of using a different angle that could limit the scene. The second shot type in this shoot is a medium shot with a
side profile angle. The medium shot is to make sure that the readers can still see scenery but can also focus on the model this time as her face is now in the shot, the side
profile angle is because the photo is taken on the side with the model still looking forward not at the camera, if the model was looking at the camera from a side profile then
it would be classed as an over the head shoulder but as the model is still looking forward it makes it a side profile. I like this angle because it is different from others that I
have shot so far in my fanzine.
Shot/ angle 9 My last photography shoot so far is my ‘Live like it’s the 90’s’this shoot has more freedom with it’s shot and angle types as it is dependent on whatever looks
most effective on the day. The shots I will mainly use are medium – close up shots with long shots, this is because these shots will successfully include the Liverpool
backdrop but also focus on the model in the photos.
YouTube
A part of the social media aspect that I’m very excited about is creating my own YouTube channel and uploading videos of me through production on certain
photoshoots, I’m planning on setting up my phone camera and vlogging the shoot, so I can show the readers exactly what happens in the behind the scenes and how I
created the photoshoot. Vlogging is very popular among young people and are some of the most watched videos on YouTube. The footage will be too long to watch all
the way through so I will speed up the videos making it them really fast making, this is a popular technique used by Youtubers in videos like makeup tutorials, it means
that the video isn’t as long so it’s still interesting and moves fast. Because if the video was a lengthy video of me explaining each step it would be boring for viewers.
But if I speed up the video and then add music to the background it will be interesting for the viewers. I think this would be successful as people enjoy watching videos
like this as they are relaxing, and they don’t require any thought process. It will be difficult to do a video for each photoshoot because some of them are boring and will
be hard to film so the photoshoots that I will aim to vlog is the; front cover shoot, the milk bath shoot, and with smaller scale shoots like ‘the three wise monkeys’ and
‘the bed feel bigger’ I might put them in the same video, depending how long they are, I wont vlog the ‘the things you left behind’ shoot because it would be too boring
and short as the shoot itself is self explanatory of its production, I will attempt at vlogging the outside shoot at the Railway Pond, and I wont shoot any footage at
Liverpool because I will be taking the photos using my phone so can’t use them for both at the same time. I’m filming the footage on my phone instead of a
professional camera to give it a real authentic vlogging fee, also it will be a lot easier to use my phone as I can move it more free and easily and I wont be able to use
two cameras at the same time without things getting overcomplicated, with a phone I can set it up somewhere and leave it but with a camera I would have to keep
checking it was set up properly and it would distract me from the real photoshoot.
A YouTube account is easy to set up and all I need is a google email and from then on it is easy and free to upload any amount of videos, I can choose whether to make
it public or private, for the purpose of the account I’ll make it public. Below is the YouTube account I’ve made with the name and a brief description of the account.
ON the left is a screenshot from the page showing how easy and simple it is to upload a video.
Instagram
My fanzine is aimed at a young audience from ages 16 – 25, in my research for the project I explored the
different types of social media and what different platforms had affected different age groups, through my
research I discovered that among young people Instagram was one of the most popular and used apps with 64%
of the 500 million users being aged between 18 and 29, although this is slightly out of the lines of my target
audience it still covers a large percentage of my potential audience and therefore is the most appropriate social
media site for my product.
For my product I’m going to create a social media page on Instagram, I will control the posts and the followers.
Hopefully, this will make the fanzine more authentic and give some depth to the fanzine, giving it more
platforms to be published and acknowledged. This will also hopefully introduce a new audience for people all
over to look at and entice them to the fanzine. The Instagram page will be updated regularly with simple
updates about the production, e.g. updates about the flowers that I bought for the shoot/where I bought them.
The fanzine will uphold a professional and serious aesthetic, so the Instagram page will be a chance for the
readers to see the behind the scene footage and the layers of production that went into the shoots and the pages,
this will hopefully make the fanzine more human and understandable. It will also create a bond between the
reader and the fanzine because they will second hand see the work that has gone into different shoots. I’m going
to try and keep the Instagram page up to date by including a range of shots throughout. I will include posts
about the models I use, and I will also include small teasers of the vlogs that I have made, promoting my
YouTube channel.
An Instagram account is easy and simple to set up, it takes a matter of minutes, it requires a back up email and
phone number but apart from that it doesn’t require anything else. When setting up the account unfortunately
there was already an account that had the name ‘euvoia’ that I wanted to call my account, so I had to find
another that hadn’t already been used. I decided to use ‘euov.ia’ I like this username because it is still obvious
that it’s the name of the fanzine and it looks quite edgy.
It is easy to upload photos, just by clicking the + symbol it takes you either to a camera where you can straight
away take a photo, or it leads you to your camera roll where you can upload a previously taken photo, then it
appears on your account where it currently says ‘ Share photos and videos’.

  • 2. My Idea The concept for my product is a feminism/wellbeing fanzine, the fanzine is targeted at both men and women, but will mainly be designed and constructed for a female audience as I think they will be more interested in the fanzine. The fanzine is a diverse and unique edition as it was mainly feature photoshoots, the main aspect of the fanzine is photography and most of the ideas for my photoshoots are inspired by mental wellbeing. I think it could be risky including photography inspired by mental wellbeing due to trigger warnings but if done responsibly and respectfully. There will also be articles and illustrations in the fanzine for variety and to engage the readers. I have planned a range of different ways I can include illustrations and animations I can involve in my fanzine through my problem-solving research. My fanzine will also include content about feminism and the power of women as this is an important aspect of the fanzine, but the photography will be mainly aimed at mental wellbeing. The two main recurring features of the fanzine will be mental wellbeing and feminism but as well as these the fanzine will also have articles and photography relating to student/young adults due to the target age group being 16 - 25, I will include articles about life and normal issues to break up the serious topics and, also to introduce a different assortment of materials. Hopefully, my fanzine will include an array of different pieces of art from different people. I decided to create a fanzine because I was interested in making a magazine, but I decided that a fanzine gives me more freedom and the independence to create my own structure.
  • 4. Colour Scheme My fanzine is different to other products as it doesn’t follow any specific theme or a strict colour scheme, this is because the fanzine layout creates it’s own structure that doesn’t obey any traditional magazine structures. A magazine would usually have a group of coordinated colours that were used frequently through the magazine to give the magazine a certain vibe, the consistency of the same colours gives the magazine a regular flow which consequently makes the magazine feel more put together and thought through. The colour scheme can completely change the aesthetic of the product depending on what colours are used. There are certain connotations with different groups/shades of colour, the stigmas that some colours carry is a very important thing to take into consideration because it can change the interpretation of the fanzine for the reader. For example, colour schemes that include pastel pinks and purples will always be used as stereotypes against girls, describing the colours as ’girly’ and ‘feminine’. So, for my fanzine I want to make sure that I stay clear of setting colours like this for the colour scheme because I don’t want the colours to define women, women should be defined as a vary of colours for different reasons, not just pink because it’s girly. In my fanzine I will obviously still use these colours occasionally if it suits the page. I decided to look at other colour schemes that would follow different themes to see if there were any that I would be interested in including in my fanzine that was better suited. Instead of specifically searching for colour schemes I decided to search a topic and then the word aesthetic after, then I would take colours from the group of photos I was given, this technique gives me colours that are more accurate to the themes I’m searching. To start the aesthetic - colour scheme technique I thought it was important to search ‘feminist aesthetic’ I knew the type of result that I would get but still thought it would be useful to my production to explore feminist aesthetics. As I said the colour pink is usually used to describe women as it is stereotypically girly, however In a lot of recent feminists instead of rejecting the colour for it’s stigma they embrace the bright colour and match it with strong powerful quotes and statements in order to give the colour strength. The colour pink is covered all over a lot of feminism mood boards. Also, a bright colours like blue and purple are often used to promote feminism. Next I searched ‘mental health aesthetic to see what kind of colours were usually used in this kind of theme, I had less knowledge about this kind of aesthetic because it isn’t as talked about on social media as feminism is. The type of aesthetic and colours used were similar to feminism in some ways. The mental health results shared the block colour vibe, I think this style is very popular and common at the moment for posted motivational quotes to. The colours used are different to the colours from feminism, although a few posts feature the colour pink. The main colours used are what would be stereotypically interpreted as ‘unisex’ colours like orange, yellow and green. I think this is because these colours are the most welcoming and often associated with qualities like peacefulness and happiness. Another style that I discovered while searching for different aesthetics I found a lot of posts that were just black and white, this makes sense because mental wellbeing can often be associated with darkness. The black writing on a white/pale background with a black illustration is a very common style used in the mental health aesthetic, I really like this style and can see multiple different ways I can bring it into my own product.
  • 5. Colour Scheme For my photography I’m not going to have a specific colour scheme as most of my shoots are taken in different places with different lightings so to attempt to include a specific colour to each photo would be too difficult and wouldn’t look effective with my work because each different shot has a different aesthetic and theme, so to label them with a certain colour would make them ineffective and take away the character and uniqueness of each shoot. So, to add a specific colour scheme with a limited number of colours to the photography is something that I wouldn’t be interested in exploring, however, after looking into different ways that I could make my photos have a similar aesthetic I discovered more information about the two integral parts of the colours in a photo, the hue and saturation. Hue is one of the main aspects of a colour it is described as ‘the degree to which a stimulus can be described as similar to or different from stimuli that are described as red, green, blue, and yellow’ so it is really what the colour is called at first sight. The saturation describes how intense the colour is, it describes the deepness of the colour, this chart shows how the saturation works. The redder the image, the higher the saturation. These aspects are important to my photography work because they represent and symbolize different things in a photo, for example, like I was saying before the colour of a photo immediately suggests a stigma or stereotype that is automatically associated with the colour. Here is a mind map including different information I found about colours and their attributes. Bibliography Jason Hellerman. (2019). How a Film Color Palette Can Make You a Better Filmmaker. Available: https://nofilmschool.com/Film-color-theory-and-color- schemes. Last accessed 13 Mar 2020. To explore the different levels of hue and saturation and explore how they work I decided to take a photo that I took in my problem solving research and edit the hue and saturation of it in Photoshop to see if there were anyways that I could apply the same edits in my own photos to give the photos a authentic and distinctive characteristics. The tool is easy to use and easy to control the settings, here are some examples of me figuring out the hue/saturation tools: Test with hue Level +100 Test 1 with saturation Level -100 Test 2 with saturation Level +100 Doing the experiments and messing around with the hue and saturation was useful because it showed me how extreme the settings can be, it also showed me what differences they both cause. In my project I am not interested in changing the hue levels as I think it is too intense and not subtle, I also don’t need any photos that are this late. However, after shooting some of my photos might develop to dark and lifeless, in this case I would use the hue gently to make the photo brighter and more colorful. I think I will use the saturation tool in my first chapter of the photography because I want the photos to have a dark and lighting to follow the topic of ‘The Withering’.
  • 6. TheTitle An important part of the fanzine is the name of it. This is important because the title is the first thing that will attract the readers. The name will determine the aesthetic and the overall vibe of the product, a strong, unique name is more likely to stick with readers and be more memorable. The aim is to have a name that is unforgettable, so it stays in the readers minds. However, I want the title to be unique and thoughtful and not something obvious and common. The titles of traditional fanzines vary, the oldest and one of the most popular fanzines is called ‘Riot Grrrl’ this title is very exclusive and self explanatory, arguing with normality by spelling ‘girl’ as ‘grrrl’. The title almost immediately explains the theme of the fanzine, whereas sometimes the title can vary and have no obvious relevance to the topic of the fanzine, for example, a fanzine I researched awhile ago called ‘Sunlight peaks through the curtains’. To collect my ideas together I decided to use the website bubbl.us so create a mind map.
  • 7. TheTitle Out of all my title ideas I have decided to choose the name ‘euvoia’ because I think it is memorable and eye catching, and I think it will suit my fanzine the most

  • 9. The Equipment I need To produce this fanzine I am reliant on a range of different pieces of equipment because my fanzine has a lot of different layers and aspects. The first most integral equipment I need to be able to produce the fanzine is access to computer software's such as, Photoshop, Premiere, and InDesign.

  • 11. The first page that the readers will see is front cover, so the front cover is a very important aspect of the fanzine and needs to be tailored correctly so that it’s not misleading to the subject of the zine. But it also needs to be provocative enough to leave a layer of mystery and enigma to interest the reader and make them read it. Fanzine front covers usually include little – no information about the fanzine, which is very contrasting from a magazine cover which will include an array of different features, e.g. barcodes, price, masthead, main coverline. However as a fanzine doesn’t follow the same strict structure it doesn’t need to have anything on the front, I prefer this layout as I think it is more modern. So, to embrace the simplistic structure I decided for the cover I would have just a photo and then the name of the fanzine, underneath the title I’m going to have the definition of the word – as a subheading – because obviously the word is very uncommon and quite random. The photo on the cover will be of young girl behind a sheet of white card paper with a hole that looks like it’s been ripped through, the young girl’s face and part of her neck/shoulders will be seen through the hole in the card, her facial expression will be KKK and passionate, the expression will be a straight face, with a slightly over the shoulder shot and intense eye contact with the camera. The purpose of this look is to obtain the secrecy of the photo. The fact the model is on the other side of the card looking at the camera on her own in solitude creates an interesting illusion, the illusion being whether she’s looking out through the card at you, or is she’s on the other side and your looking through the card at her. This creates an interesting dynamic because as the reader we don’t know who’s in control. Also, the serious face is a nice juxtaposition with the title of the fanzine ‘ a pure and well-balanced mind, a good spirit. Beautiful thinking ’ hopefully this intrigues the reader, encouraging them to read. For this shoot the model will wear basic makeup, you won’t really be able to tell she’s wearing makeup because it’ll just be essentials, just enough to make her look skin look bright and to enhance her features. She will wear; concealer, mascara and eyebrow products. Her hair will be down and tucked behind her ears so you can clearly see her face, her hair will be straightened.
  • 12. Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it’ll cost The front cover. ‘Euvoia’ - For this shoot I don’t need that much equipment as the idea is quite simple and requires little props. - The first piece of equipment I need is a big piece of card that should take up all of the camera shot. This means the card needs to be A3 or bigger. I can easily find this in College supplies or at a stationary shop. - I need a model to be on the other side of the card. Through my project I have multiple photoshoots and I want the model to be wearing minimal, natural makeup because I think when models wear less makeup it looks more life like and relatable for the reader. - For this shoot I will need a camera, battery, memory card and a tripod. I also need studio lights. - I need the paper because the photo is shot through the paper to look like someone is on the other side through the paper. So, without the paper the photo would be pointless. - I need the model to be the subject of the photo behind the card. The aim of the shoot is to have it look as though behind the card she is in a different world on her own. - To take the photos with the best quality and make sure that the camera doesn’t run out of storage or charge, and the tripod to keep the camera still and propped up. I need the studio lights to light the front of the photo to highlight the models face. - The A3 paper should be free if I can find it at college. However if there isn’t any I found a £3.80 A3 notepad with 5 blank pages in that I can purchase. - For this the model I'm using is my sister so she will happily conduct the shoot for free. - This equipment is free because I can get it from College. Location Why I need it How much it’ll cost - I need a studio room with a black screen background - I need this background because a black screen will create the right mysterious and intense effect against the white card. It’s also effective using a studio because it makes the photo look more professional. - I talked earlier about how I should be able to use the studio room at college but if it’s all booked up for the times I need then I will have to book my own studio which would cost £30 per hour.
  • 13.
  • 14. The Withering page is the second page of the fanzine. Usually a magazine would include a contents page explaining what each page would feature, I wanted to include a contents page as I think it would make the fanzine easier to read and would show readers what the fanzine had to offer, however I wanted to embrace the traditional fanzine style and to make my fanzine authentic I needed to carry on without a contents page. So, the first page is a double page spread to introduce the first chapter of the zine, ‘The Withering’. The withering is a chapter about mental health when it’s at it’s worth or when it’s ‘withering’. This chapter includes different pieces of photography that are associating with how mental health can look on people and the physical affects it has on people, hibernating bad thoughts in their heads. The first chapter is symbolic as it introduces the whole fanzine, it is a risky chapter as depending on the reader and their interpretation it could be boring and hard to understand but from a different point of view it could be enduring. So, with the chapter being so important I wanted to introduce it in a unique and edgy way that would make it stand out and promote its importance. So, for the first page of the double page spread I have staged a photoshoot. The photoshoot appears to be a young girls head and part of her hand appearing from heavy mist with withered flowers decorated around her. The emerging of her head from the mist is very symbolic and interesting, it signifies her almost drowning in the mist, the fact she’s drowning, and the rest of her body being submerged suggests that her head is the last thing to go, the point of drowning proposes that she’s not under control and something is pulling her down, this is all routed deep in the imagination so whether readers associate this altogether is a risk, however I think it is quite an easy link to make, especially if the model has a look of instability. Also, with her head and part of her hand a float and the tranquillity and calmness of her body posture it shows she isn’t fighting to get out, she’s stuck and she’s content with being there, like she doesn’t have the energy try and escape the mist. Not only is the body posture and mist significant but the withering follows positioned around her are a massive hint to the underlying subject of the photo. The withered flowers can represent different things, I searched on Google ‘what do withered flowers represent’ and this was the most popular result ‘s a sign of melancholy, depression, and regret about the past. In addition, they can symbolize a fake relationship with a loved one if you dreamed that the luxurious shrubs were blooming and sweet-smelling next to them.’ Which is a common interpretation of withered flowers and just adds more mysterious connotations to the photo. The withering flowers around the mist have an obvious association with the name of the chapter, the chapter is named after the flowers around the mist to make the page look balanced, the chapter is called the withering because of the flowers but also because the photos in the chapter can be interpreted as the withering of a person. This photoshoot look quite complicated to conduct however it is quite simple. For the shoot I full up the bath with water and then add milk to discolour the bath water making it appear white, then I’ll add withered flowers/petals around the bath and then have the model in the bath. The model will be in the bath fully submerged apart from her face and hand. Her hair will be slit back because the water will wet it and make it stick to her head, making her face clearly exposed to the camera. After this set I will make sure the room has the correct lighting so that when I take the photo the bath water looks misty. For the shoot I will have to use the camera with flash on in order to get the most effective result. The makeup she wears will be very similar to the first shoot with minimal makeup used only concealer, mascara and eyebrow products. So far, I’ve been looking through different fonts for the heading and through Dafonts searching ‘flower’ in order to find a font that matches the aesthetic of the page. Here are a few that I found. My favourite is Flower Child because it is flowery and innkeeping but it also has a creepy twinge to it.
  • 15. Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost ‘The Withering’ and ‘The Blossoming’ - Flowers, I will need at least three flowers for this photoshoot, the colour/type of the flower doesn’t particularly matter as long as they are quite vibrant and stand out. To get the flowers I will go to a shop on Bishopthorpe road the is near my house and sells a wide range of flowers, it also sells single flowers which would be useful to my project as I don’t need an entire bouquet. I need fully blossomed flowers for one shoot but for the second I need petals that look withered. - Milk, I need at least2/3 litres of milk in order to discolour the bath water, the type of milk doesn’t matter. I can get this from the shop near me - I need a model for the photoshoot, the model ideally needs to be someone who was a young adult with minimal make up on so she looks natural. - For this shoot I will need a camera, battery and memory card. - I need flowers in the bath because the flowers are going to signify the beginning and end of each photography chapter, so for each chapter I’m going to feature a different stage of the a flower blossoming. The mental wellbeing photography in my fanzine is separated into two shoots; The withering and The Blossoming. For the first shoot the flower’s petals will symbolise the withering of the flower to symbolize getting worse, then for the second shoot I need a flower that is nearly blossoming to symbolize getting better - I need the milk to put in a bathtub full of water because it will hopefully discolour the bath water so when I take a photo the water will look misty and mysterious. - For the shoot I obviously need a model, I need a model because she will be in the bath with just hr face and a bit of her hand looking like she has emerged from the tub. - To take the photos with the best quality and make sure that the camera doesn’t run out of storage or charge. - Flowers are usually quite expensive for fully blossomed, pretty flowers. I looked the shop on Bishopthorpe ‘Debbie's Flowers’. I couldn’t find the pricing on her website anywhere but when I looked at her Facebook page I saw this which means that is is quite an expensive, luxury item. - Milk is usually £0.85p per litre. So 3+ would be at least £2.55 - For this the model I'm using is my sister so she will happily conduct the shoot for free. And, there is no transport to pay for either of us because it is shot in the bath at my house. - This equipment is free because I can get it from College. Location Why I need it How much it will cost I need a bathtub for the photoshoot to be shot in. The bath tub is the main setting for the shoot and will be the only background you see. A bathtub will be easily accessible because I have one at home that is the correct size and shape. The bath tub is free because it is at my house.

I'm struggling to talk Its making me silent I'm struggling to breathe Its making me hyperventilate I'm struggling to swallow Its making me choke I'm struggling to see Its making me blind I'm struggling to listen Its making me deaf I'm struggling to run Its making me walk I'm struggling to jump Its making me stop I'm struggling to move Its making me freeze I'm struggling to remember Its erasing my memories I'm struggling to think Its making me un smart I'm struggling to be happy Its making me depressed I'm struggling to laugh Its making me cry I'm struggling to be calm Its making me angry I wanna move I wanna talk I wanna see I wanna breathe I cannot move I cannot talk I cannot see I cannot breathe I'm pushing, But its pulling I'm pulling, But its pushing I'm fighting, And its fighting back’hel I'm struggling, And its winning I wanna be free I wanna go forward My freedom is punished And to go forward is forbidden My third page is the second page of the double spread for the withering, the second page goes hand in hand with the milk bath photo as they come together. I didn’t want to start the chapters photography on the second page as I thought each photoshoot should get its own double page spread instead of having to share with the introductory page. So, I had to find something that would match the milk bath photo, I thought this would be quite difficult because the photo is so captivating and full of colour that anything that was on the page next to it would look overpowered and the double page spread would look quite amateur. So, I decided not to have a second photoshoot next to it, instead I thought it would be a nice idea if I just included a black and white poem next to it to describe the upcoming sequence of photos. I wanted to include poetry in my fanzine because I think sometimes poetry can speak to people on a deep and private level, the way that articles and photos don’t always achieve. For the layout of the page I’m just going to have the poem in black writing with a white background, then if the page looks boring, I might think about using the graphics tablet to include some illustrations, however I don’t want it to look like Rupi Kaur’s work. So, as I’m not a poetry writer and wouldn’t know where to start to create an effective poem I decided to search for some online that would match my photos. After looking at a range of different potential poems I found a website called ‘hello poetry’. This website publishes amateur poet’s work. I looked through a lot of poems until I found a poet called Caterina Correia who has published 366 poems with 29.9k words, although she only has 6 followers. The poem of hers that I want to use is called ‘Gravity’, the original version is 48 lines long I don’t plan on using the whole poem as this would be too much for the reader and probably disengage them, for the page I plan on using only 6/8 lines. I like this poem because it is simple and only has a few, words where most of them are repetitive but still manages to be extremely descriptive. The lines I want to use are either: 1. I'm struggling to talk or Its making me silent I'm struggling to breathe Its making me hyperventilate I'm struggling to swallow Its making me choke I'm struggling to see Its making me blind I'm struggling to be happy Its making me depressed I'm struggling to laugh Its making me cry I'm struggling to be calm Its making me angry Here is the full- length poem However, in order to be allowed to publish the poem in my fanzine I will have to message the poet and ask if I have her permission to use it as it isn’t mine. On the website there is a ‘message’ option, however when I went to message it is said to join the website I had to be ‘invited’ to the community and couldn’t just join. As her poems are published on the website I assume https://hellopoetry.com/caterina_/poems/

  • 20. This shoot is called ‘The three wise monkeys which is a play on the traditional three wise monkeys, the three monkeys are Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth, who speaks no evil. People believe that if you follow these three steps then you are avoiding all evil, however philosophers will argue that there are different rules and more things to consider like utilitarianism instead of just following these simple rules. The monkeys make being good seem so simple and obtainable by not saying, speaking or seeing any evil. The three wise monkeys are suspected to have been around for two thousand years and are a monument frequently referred to all around the world. I thought that for my next page it would be quite interesting to include a sequence of photos with a person discreetly mirroring the actions of the three wise monkeys. However, to make it match the theme of my photos and fit in with the mental health aspect of it I decided to twist the story of the three wise monkeys, so instead of wise make the three foolish monkeys, a play on the traditional tale. With this I will take three pictures with someone in the same positions, with their hands over their ears, mouth and eyes, but it won’t be positioned as calmly as the three wise monkeys, the model will look distressed. The oppositional adjective of foolish compared to wise will hopefully portray to the audience that instead of not saying/doing evil instead s/he has said/done evil. I like this shoot as I think it is quite meaningful and planned carefully. For the shoot I’m going to have two different models, a young women and a young man in order to introduce a male perspective because through the fanzine so far it has only featured a female and her perspective. I also think it will be interesting to see the differences and similarities for the male vs female shoot. Then after I have taken a photo for each type of monkey, I will take the photos to Photoshop, once they are downloaded on different layers, I will change the opacity on each layer so that the layers will merge into each other. For this shoot the clothes that the models are wearing won’t matter because only the top of the shoulders will be seen. But for the makeup on the girl I’m going to carry follow my aesthetic with a subtle amount of makeup, however, for this shoot I’d prefer if the model wasn’t wearing concealer, and I might even apply brown eyeshadow under the eyes to enhance black bags portraying the model as tired. This shot will be shot in a white studio room, so the lighting is very important, for the lighting I want their to be a healthy amount of light so that we can really see the details in the photo, but I don’t want it to be overly white making the photo look positive, so with the studio lights I will only use two, to highlight the faces but not stream the photo. http://www.omalayatravel.com/three-wise-monkeys-symbol- explained/
  • 21. The Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost ‘The Three Foolish Monkeys’ - For this shoot I don’t need a lot of equipment because I am just reliant on the model and her facial expressions and emotion. I need a two young models, a boy and a girl. - For this shoot I will need a camera, battery, memory card and a tripod. I also need studio lights. - I need a boy and a girl to represent that boys can also go through the same emotions and feelings instead of just focusing on girls. - To take the photos with the best quality and make sure that the camera doesn’t run out of storage or charge, and the tripod to keep the camera still and propped up. I need the studio lights to light the front of the photo to highlight the models face. - The models again won’t cost because I can get my college peers to feature in the shoot. I won’t pay them but in return will feature in their project. - This equipment is free because I can get it from College. Location Why I need it How much it will cost - I need a studio room with a white screen background -I need a white background because I think if it was black then it would shift focus from the models in the photo but I want the attention to be strictly on them. - I talked earlier about how I should be able to use the studio room at college but if it’s all booked up for the times I need then I will have to book my own studio which would cost £30 per hour.

  • 24. The next pages are 4,5 and 6,7 the pages are a series of the same photoshoot. This photoshoot is called ‘The bed feels bigger’. The shoot is a women in a bed curled up in different positions that suggest she can’t sleep and suggest that she has something on her mind, e.g. curled in a ball shape. The first shot will be the empty bed, then the following will have her in it. The point of the shoot is just to relate to that feeling when you can’t sleep when something’s on your mind. The name is associated with the shoot because it’s implying that she lost the person who used to sleep in the bed with her, and now that that person has left the bed feels bigger because the space, they used to take up has gone, leaving her to sleep in it alone. This shot is different to other pages because it is the first shoot where the model is supposedly caught of guard without their face in shoot. Other shoots have all featured the model acknowledging the camera by looking into the lens, but this time the subject is in bed and unaware of the camera.

  • 26. Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost ‘The bed feels bigger’ - I need a double bed. Ideally I need the sheets to be white and plain for the most effective results. I also need just one pillow on the bed. - I need a model for my shoot, the makeup the model wears isn’t as important as other shoots because the face will be covered. - I want to include the same series with a boy model instead, however I think it might be difficult to find a male model for this shoot. - I need a double bed because the bigger the bed the smaller the subject will look on it and I want the subject to look little in comparison to the bed. I also want the sheets to be white because if they were patterned or a certain colour I think they would look quite childish and throw the tone of the shoot, making readers take it less seriously. I want to have one pillow on the bed instead of two because one signifies that she is on her own in the bed. - I need her to be the subject of the photo and lie on the bed. - I want to include one of the shots from a male perspective as well to share awareness for male mental wellbeing. - This shouldn’t cost anything because at my house I have a double bed and white sheets, so these should be easily obtainable. - For this the model I'm using is my sister so she will happily conduct the shoot for free. And, there is no transport to pay for either of us because it is shot in my room at my house. - Hopefully, I can find a male friend or college student to be in the shoot but if not, I would think about hiring a model. Location Why I need it How much it will cost - The location would be in a bedroom with a double bed. - I need it to be set in a bedroom because the shoot needs to look like it is realistically someone at home. - This shouldn’t cost anything because again it is shot at my house.

  • 28. Page 8, 9 are the last for the first series of photos in the first chapter of ‘The Withering’ and it ends with two photos of a letter on a door with an old shoebox on the doorstep. The pages are called ‘the things you left behind’ The letter is filled with stereotypical pointless things that an Ex would accidently leave behind after a breakup the letter lists things that were left behind but then at the end it includes ‘my heart’ as the last thing, including ‘my heart’ at the end identifies that the subject of the letter has left and subsequently broke her heart by leaving her behind. Putting the ‘my heart’ at the end of the list speaks massive amounts because it indicates that the heart he left behind is as insignificant to you as a pair of earphones are. Comparing the disregard of the loss of your cufflink is the same as the neglection of your heart. This shoot should be quite emotive for a reader who has experienced a messy breakup. For the photoshoot I need a sunny day because by having the letter stuck to a door it means that I have to be outside and therefore reliant on the weather. If the weather is sunny it will make a better photo as if it’s raining it will effect the lighting and exposure making the photo worse quality. An advantage of this shoot is that it shouldn’t take long and doesn’t require a complicated set up, so if the weather is nice then I could immediately go out and shoot.
  • 29. Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost ‘The things you left behind’ - I need a white A4 blank piece of paper. - A pen to write with. - Tape. - I need this to write all the ‘thing you left behind’ on. I’m using a plain white piece of paper because it is the most realistic as if this were real then a person would use just a white piece of paper and nothing fancy. - I need a pen obviously to write the items on. What colour the pen is doesn’t make a difference. - I need tape to stick the note to the door - I can easily access this from college for free. - I can also get this from college for free or find a pen from home. - This is easily accessible at college Location Why I need it How much it will cost - For the location I just need a door. The door can be anywhere and doesn’t need to be a certain colour or type. - The door is the background because it’s meant to look like ’the ex’ has stuck in onto his door for him to find. - This won’t cost anything as I can use any door.

  • 37. Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost - For this shoot I need a small bandeau top. Preferably a light colour, like white or skin tone. - I need a model. - Glitter, any colour, maybe a gold symbolic colour. - I need this because for the shoot you’ll just be able to see the models shoulders and a bit of her back, so with a bandeau it’ll look like she’s not wearing anything and hopefully her hair will cover the bandeau. This is for an artistic effect because the idea of her sitting in the wilderness makes her appear open and free. - I need a model for the subject of the photo, to sit in the middle of the wooded area in the middle to symbolize balance and harmony. - The glitter is for the second photo to com from her mouth. - A small bandeaux isn’t expensive. From looking online I found a small light pink bandeau for £6.00. - For this the model I'm using is my sister so she will happily conduct the shoot for free. There could be possible transport fees for us both depending where we plan on shooting. -There are a range of different colour glitters from Claire's for £3.00 each, so if I wanted to mix two colours I would need to spend £6.00 Location Why I need it How much it will cost - The location for this shoot needs to be in a wooded area, preferably with a lake. A location I thought of was York Railway pond and reserve. The pond is photogenic and open which is perfect for the shoot. - I need this location for the shoot because a wooded area with a pond suggests peacefulness and harmony. - This wont cost anything as it is an open reserve for anyone going past. - There will be not additional travelling cost because the reserve is a 17 minute walk or 3 minute drive from my house.

  • 39. Photoshoot The Equipment I need Why I need it How much it will cost ‘Live like it’s the 90’s’ - For this photoshoot the only equipment I need is my phone and a charger - I only need a model and then I am reliant on the locations. - I only need my phone because for this photoshoot I’m using the app HUJI which is only downloadable on my phone not the camera. I need a charger incase the phone runs out of charge. - I need the model in the photos. - This will not cost anything because I’, using my own phone and the app is free. - For this the model I'm using is my sister so she will happily conduct the shoot for free. The photoshoot is based in Liverpool as it is an upcoming and photogenic city. I will have to pay for the transport for both of us to get there. The prices range depending on what train I use, the standard price for an adult return with two weeks advance notice is £50.70. Location Why I need it How much it will cost - Liverpool Jamaica Street, The Liverpool Wings - The Tate Museum - I’ve chosen to conduct part of my shoot here because the Liverpool Wings are a very well known monument. - I want to conduct a shot in the Tate museum because I feel like art museum’s are not as popular now that art can be looked at in photos, I also liked the arty-cultural aesthetic. - This will be free. - The Tate Museum is a Museums that relies just on donations from visitors, the preferred donation is £4.00.

  • 43. The prop The price A picture of the prop Pink bandeau £6.00 Glitter £3.00 each, or £6.00 for two. Train tickets to Liverpool £50.70 each, £101.40 for two. Tate Museum donation £4.00 preferred donation Total of the props/ equipment £165.75 Altogether the price of the equipment and props I need in production is £165.75. This seems like a lot of money for production, however, this is all the worst-case scenario prices, so this pricing through production will most likely not hit this number, this planning is just so if I do have to take each precaution then I know how much it would cost.
  • 44. Finance – Location, models, Equipment, paper According to my plans my project shouldn’t be too dependent on any extreme finance costs. And if so, I should be able to find the funds myself as they aren’t anything extravagant. Photoshoots The first aspect of production where I might need to plan my finance is in the Photoshoots. I plan on conducting multiple photoshoots in different locations. So far most of my planned photoshoots don’t require me to book/reserve any locations that would make me pay. A location I need that I would need to be reliant on someone for is the Studio Room at college, this won’t cost anything as it is free for York College media students to use, the only issue would be if there was no bookings left not allowing me to use the room. In this case I would have to hire out a similar room. I looked online to find any studios that would be suitable for me, I found a studio on 8 Bridge Street called York Digital Media that hired a photography room out for £30 an hour, this price is quite reasonable compared to others, so if there wasn’t a compatible time for me to conduct my photoshoots at college I could hire the room out for an hour. Although to cut costs I will just book the studio room in advance to be sure I’ve got it. One of my shoots circulate around the Liverpool as it’s an interesting and photogenic city, I have planned places to visit in Liverpool in preparation for the day, most places are outside and/open to the public however some of the locations might cost. For example, one of the locations I have planned to visit to conduct my Photoshoot is a Liverpool hot spot called ‘Me Oh My’ building with an impressive view from the rooftop, the building is a café and requires you have food to be able to see the rooftop garden, so this could cost maximum £10. Secondly, in Liverpool I wanted to visit an art gallery/ museum to involve culture, however I thought that this could be quite expensive. So, I conducted some research and discovered that the Tate Museum Liverpool is funded reliant on donations, the preferred donation is £4 per person. So far, the other shoots are set in locations that I don’t need to pay for. Camera Equipment For the camera equipment there shouldn’t be any pieces of equipment that I need to pay for, my project is unlike other projects and doesn’t depend on excessive, expensive equipment tools. All pieces of equipment I need I can get through York College. As it stands for my project I will need; a camera, a memory card, a battery, and a tripod, through the production my photoshoots might require some extra equipment, but it should be available through college. Models For my shoot I’m not planning on using professional models so this will defiantly help save the money I have to spend on other more important things. However, if I was interested in involving paid models, I thought I could visit the fashion/design or drama students and see if they had any potential students interested in gaining some model experience, this would be a lot cheaper then having to pay for a professional model. paper The paper I print the fanzine out on is the most expensive and trickiest aspect of the finance.
  • 45. Camera Shot and Angle type In my project so far, I have referred to camera work because the smallest difference in angling can change the entire perspective of the photo, giving them a completely different feeling or meaning. Here is a brief explanation of the angle types that I could use in my photography: Point of View , Birds Eye View, high angle, low angle. For my project I intend on using a range of different angles. The other aspect of photography work which is just as important as angle type is shot type, shot type contains a lot more differentiations; extreme wide shot, long shot, wide shot, full shot, medium long shot, medium shot, medium close up, close up, extreme close up and over the shoulder shot.. For my project the angle and shot type is very important because my photos are all about creating a aesthetic and a specific impression that it leaves on the reader, and as I said earlier the angle/shot can completely change the tone of the photo if the wrong one is chosen. For my project I plan on using different angles and shots to keep it interesting but a lot of my shoots do follow the same style, I think this is risky because the readers might get bored of the same structure, but I think it is an effective way to brand the photos but it is also important to give them their own personal style. Chapter 1 Planning the angles and shots for my shoots Shot/angle 1 My first shoot is my front cover, judging chronologically and not in order of production. For this shoot I have planned it as a medium – close up shot using a POV angle (point of view angle). I have decided to use a medium- close up for this shot because although I think a close up shot would look really effective I think it would be slightly too intense for the front cover, a close up shot would be good because you would defiantly be able to convey emotion and passion as we had get a powerful view of her face expression, but I think that would be too harsh for the cover. First, I would rather set the tone of the fanzine with a less overpowering photo. I decided to use a point of view angle because I like the eye contact that it felt through the POV angle, it creates a more intimate and relatable atmosphere on the page. The POV angle is often used on covers to grab people’s attention as the intensive glare is difficult to ignore. I also think it was the angle that was most suitable for the shot, it allows us to properly understand the photo. Shot/angle 2 My second photoshoot is the ‘The Withering’ and ‘The Blossoming’ shoot. I will conduct this shoot using a medium – close up/ with a bird's eye view, this is the same shot type as the first shoot because both shoots rely on the focus on the models face to fully understand the photo. A medium – close up is applicable for this shoot because although the focus is on the models face and her facial expression the focus will shift to the nature of her setting, the photo will look like she is in mist with flowers, this setting is to set a mysterious and alluring scene to entice the readers so a close up shot would waste the background and subsequently ruin the aesthetic of the shot. The angle is from a birds eye view, I will take the photo from above the model with the model looking up at the camera, it will e a birds eye view because if I take it on the side or face on I risk being able to see beyond the bath tub and this would ruin the photo. The birds eye view with the model following the camera with her eyes will look quite captivating and inviting.
  • 46. Camera Shot and Angle type Shot/angle 3 My third shoot is the ‘The three wise monkeys’ , for this shoot I will have the camera positioned in a medium – close up shot with a POV, medium angle, featuring the model’s face and part of their shoulders. The medium - close up shot is perfect for this shot because the photo is meant to portray a lot of emotion and angst so a medium close up shot is close enough to grab the model’s expression but there’s also enough room to set the scene with the shoulders and enough space to see the background. The POV angle is so that we can properly see the model’s face, also following the traditional picture of ‘the three wise monkeys’ we always see the monkeys from a medium shot. Shot/angle 4 My next photoshoot is ‘the bed feels bigger’ this photo finally ventures away from the same medium – close up shot I've been using, for this shoot I will take the photo using a bird’s eye view angle with a long shot. This shoot features a bird’s eye view shot because the point is to see the subject in a position in which she looks distressed on the bed, for this we need to see the position she’s doing and have the setting of the bed, the only way to effectively capture all this in one clear, descriptive shot is to use a birds eye view. And I am using a long shot to fit the whole scene in, the long shot will successfully set the scene and is appropriate for the scene because with this shot you don’t need to see the model’s face, therefore, a close up shot would be pointless. Shot/angle 5 and 6 My last shoot in the first photography chapter of my fanzine is the ‘The things you left behind’ shot, this is quite a straightforward shot as it doesn’t have any model’s or live subjects in it, the first shot will be a long shot so that the whole door is featured to set the scene, the second shot will be a medium – close up shot so that we can read the writing on the letter, but, not a close up shot, so we can still see a bit of the door. Chapter 2 Shot/angle 7 and 8 The first shoot in my second chapter of the fanzine is the shoot at the York Railway Pond, the first photo will me taken at an extreme long shot, with a medium, POV, angle. The shot will be taken using an extreme long shot in order to capture the scenery of the photo because for this shoot the scenery is one of the most important aspect as it sets the scene and helps tell the story of the picture as well as the model. The shot will be at a medium, POV, angle because with the angle we can get the whole view of the pond and the greenery around instead of using a different angle that could limit the scene. The second shot type in this shoot is a medium shot with a side profile angle. The medium shot is to make sure that the readers can still see scenery but can also focus on the model this time as her face is now in the shot, the side profile angle is because the photo is taken on the side with the model still looking forward not at the camera, if the model was looking at the camera from a side profile then it would be classed as an over the head shoulder but as the model is still looking forward it makes it a side profile. I like this angle because it is different from others that I have shot so far in my fanzine. Shot/ angle 9 My last photography shoot so far is my ‘Live like it’s the 90’s’this shoot has more freedom with it’s shot and angle types as it is dependent on whatever looks most effective on the day. The shots I will mainly use are medium – close up shots with long shots, this is because these shots will successfully include the Liverpool backdrop but also focus on the model in the photos.
  • 47. YouTube A part of the social media aspect that I’m very excited about is creating my own YouTube channel and uploading videos of me through production on certain photoshoots, I’m planning on setting up my phone camera and vlogging the shoot, so I can show the readers exactly what happens in the behind the scenes and how I created the photoshoot. Vlogging is very popular among young people and are some of the most watched videos on YouTube. The footage will be too long to watch all the way through so I will speed up the videos making it them really fast making, this is a popular technique used by Youtubers in videos like makeup tutorials, it means that the video isn’t as long so it’s still interesting and moves fast. Because if the video was a lengthy video of me explaining each step it would be boring for viewers. But if I speed up the video and then add music to the background it will be interesting for the viewers. I think this would be successful as people enjoy watching videos like this as they are relaxing, and they don’t require any thought process. It will be difficult to do a video for each photoshoot because some of them are boring and will be hard to film so the photoshoots that I will aim to vlog is the; front cover shoot, the milk bath shoot, and with smaller scale shoots like ‘the three wise monkeys’ and ‘the bed feel bigger’ I might put them in the same video, depending how long they are, I wont vlog the ‘the things you left behind’ shoot because it would be too boring and short as the shoot itself is self explanatory of its production, I will attempt at vlogging the outside shoot at the Railway Pond, and I wont shoot any footage at Liverpool because I will be taking the photos using my phone so can’t use them for both at the same time. I’m filming the footage on my phone instead of a professional camera to give it a real authentic vlogging fee, also it will be a lot easier to use my phone as I can move it more free and easily and I wont be able to use two cameras at the same time without things getting overcomplicated, with a phone I can set it up somewhere and leave it but with a camera I would have to keep checking it was set up properly and it would distract me from the real photoshoot. A YouTube account is easy to set up and all I need is a google email and from then on it is easy and free to upload any amount of videos, I can choose whether to make it public or private, for the purpose of the account I’ll make it public. Below is the YouTube account I’ve made with the name and a brief description of the account. ON the left is a screenshot from the page showing how easy and simple it is to upload a video.

Instagram My fanzine is aimed at a young audience from ages 16 – 25, in my research for the project I explored the different types of social media and what different platforms had affected different age groups, through my research I discovered that among young people Instagram was one of the most popular and used apps with 64% of the 500 million users being aged between 18 and 29, although this is slightly out of the lines of my target audience it still covers a large percentage of my potential audience and therefore is the most appropriate social media site for my product. For my product I’m going to create a social media page on Instagram, I will control the posts and the followers. Hopefully, this will make the fanzine more authentic and give some depth to the fanzine, giving it more platforms to be published and acknowledged. This will also hopefully introduce a new audience for people all over to look at and entice them to the fanzine. The Instagram page will be updated regularly with simple updates about the production, e.g. updates about the flowers that I bought for the shoot/where I bought them. The fanzine will uphold a professional and serious aesthetic, so the Instagram page will be a chance for the readers to see the behind the scene footage and the layers of production that went into the shoots and the pages, this will hopefully make the fanzine more human and understandable. It will also create a bond between the reader and the fanzine because they will second hand see the work that has gone into different shoots. I’m going to try and keep the Instagram page up to date by including a range of shots throughout. I will include posts about the models I use, and I will also include small teasers of the vlogs that I have made, promoting my YouTube channel. An Instagram account is easy and simple to set up, it takes a matter of minutes, it requires a back up email and phone number but apart from that it doesn’t require anything else. When setting up the account unfortunately there was already an account that had the name ‘euvoia’ that I wanted to call my account, so I had to find another that hadn’t already been used. I decided to use ‘euov.ia’ I like this username because it is still obvious that it’s the name of the fanzine and it looks quite edgy. It is easy to upload photos, just by clicking the + symbol it takes you either to a camera where you can straight away take a photo, or it leads you to your camera roll where you can upload a previously taken photo, then it appears on your account where it currently says ‘ Share photos and videos’.
