2. Main storyline
For our film we want to include a multi-layered narrative which includes two or more plots
which connect together to make one big storyline. The main idea for our storyline is based
around a teenager/adult who runs away from their home because of a huge secret that
they are keeping. Our film will follow two main stories; the main character’s journey and
where they go after they’ve left, and also how the people around the main character
reacts to the ‘disappearance’ and how they try to find him/her.The film will be based on a
2ish month period starting from the day the person leaves.
Our film will end with the main character finding a missing persons poster of themselves,
picking it up and then ripping it up.They then walk away into the distance and the film
ends. This represents the fact that the main character does want to be found.
3. Todorov’s equilibrium theory
Our film will mostly followTodorov’s theory of what a narrative should be like and the
events it will follow. The only stage we will not include is the last one as they main
character never returns home, and everyone else is still desperate for them to come back.
■ A state of equilibrium (all is well) =The film starts as if it’s a normal morning, the main
character waking up and getting ready.
■ A disruption of that order by an event = Its revealed that its still the middle of the night
and the main character packs a bag of essentials. They then leave and doesn’t come
back.
■ A recognition that disorder has occurred =The people that know the main character
start to realize that they are missing, the days go by without them returning and they
all become increasingly worried.
■ An attempt to repair the damage of the disorder =The friends/family begin going to
the police and putting up posters in the hopes of finding the main character.
4. Characters
(The characters haven’t been given names yet as this is just an initial plan of which
characters will be included)
■ The main character – teenager/young adult who leaves/runs away from home because
of an unknown reason.
■ Stalker – person who is following the main character, they might be part of the reason
why the teenager/adult has left.
■ The teenager/adult’s friends who are concerned with the ‘disappearance’ of their
friend.
5. Settings
Throughout our film trailer we want to use a variety of settings and locations that are
realistic and that everyone has seen before:
- The teenagers house which is featured at the beginning and in a few scenes
throughout the film.
- Urban areas such as a tunnel, road, paths and housing estates.
- Wood areas and green spaces that are isolated away.
- Outside the police station.
6. Props
In our film we will use a wide variety of props to add detail to the narrative and characters:
■ Main character – Rucksack, Mobile phones, quite dark clothing and cap/hat.
■ Missing person poster, suspicious item that main character carries around.
