Micromeritics - Fundamental and Derived Properties of Powders
Question 2
1. Ugis Character
We represented Ugi as a typical gangster from the clothes he wears to his
actions, we start the opening sequence off with Ugi playing snooker in an
arcade with his mate which is very casual and a nice thing to do just like Liam
Neeson is spending time with his family in Istanbul but once he receives a call
like Liam Neeson does his character changes from a nice guy to somebody
picking up a pistol in central London which can represent his character as
dangerous or threatening. Also, Ugis height is around 177/8 compared to the
antagonist Berks who is around 170/1 which automatically makes him look
tough and strong compared to Berks who is more vulnerable. Ugi is also
emotionless when shooting Berks in the head which is very hard to do as your
mental strength either has to be very low or high as any normal person would
hesitate but Ugi doesn’t hesitate a single bit.
2. From the start as a group our first idea was to recreate a
Taken movie but in a different manner, however, although
we wasn’t trying to create a new Liam Neeson we did
instead follow in his footsteps, as you can see in the
photos on the left both of the protagonists are wearing
causal clothes e.g. Jeans and a Jacket.
There style is also the same as they are both ruthless but in
everyday life they seem like any other person as seen in
our arcade shot where Ugi is playing snooker with his
friend and Liam Neeson spending time with his family.
3. Our protagonist Ugi is not wearing any makeup, the reason for this is that in the opening sequence we
really want to express to the audience how powerful of a character Ugi is and if we did do makeup it
wouldn’t be what the average person thinks but more of a facial damage makeup where we fake
the cuts and grazes he will receive from fights and crashes, however, like I said there is none used in
the opening sequence because he doesn’t obtain any scratches as there is no fight or crash scenes
because our character Berks is so inferior compared to Ugi he can not simply inflict any damage.
Ugis costume is fairly simple which is what many elements of our opening sequence is like e.g. Title
credits is Verdana and this is because Ugi is from the Ghetto (Hackney) and although he is wearing
expensive clothing like GSTAR he is still wearing a simple “gangster” associated type of jacket which
can be used to conceal items and also make you seem stronger than you are. His hat is also very
simple and a lot of Action movies are from the USA which is a country where people wear snapbacks
and due to this we wanted our character to wear a normal baseball cap as it represents the UK and
where this film is created in.
Ugis persona is very easy to see in the opening sequence as the simple acts he does are actually
when thought about quite crazy! The fact that he has a gun hidden in a public area which is patrolled
by a lot of police compared to the other parts of the UK is absolutely nuts. On the phone Ugi is also
speaking with slang which shows his lack of care and ruthlessness. Later on he also chases Berks down
a public road which is Chinatown where nearly all tourists visit and this is also crazy as he deals with his
business anywhere anytime.
4. On the image on the left you can see an image of our
protagonist Ugi where there is a 3D effect and in the actual
movie there is a pan in each corner in a curve motion
alongside the stereoscopic 3D RGB effect and this is because I
wanted to help construct a representation of Ugi as if he is
currently very happy like he took a drug or something while
playing snooker with his friend. This represents Ugis other side of
being peaceful and happy compared to what you see in the
rest of the movie of him being destructive and ruthless.
5. Berks Character
We represented Berks as someone who use to work with Ugi before it went
down south which suggests he is on the same page as Ugi ruthlessness wise.
When Berks comes out the Massage parlour it is obvious he isn’t there for a
massage as the clothes he is wearing in a bright day isn’t in correct format,
like Ugi he is wearing Jeans and a puffed up jacket to make him seem
stronger than he actually is but speed wise and strength wise he straight
away loses compared to Ugi which is why he is killed of immediately in the
opening sequence as he isn’t powerful and strong enough. We don’t really
get too see an in depth view of Berks character as we don’t really know
much about him.
6. Stereotypes
Stereotypes were definitely used in our opening sequence. The dress code itself first of all is very
stereotypical as you usually associate ghetto dressing with immigrants and all of our characters are
from Turkey with beards apart from Berks who shaved but other than that Ugi and the other
character playing snooker has a beard.
Our English is also very bad as stereotypically associated with Turks as knowing the least amount of
English which is conformed to in our opening sequence where Ugi is speaking slang and swearing
like he has Tourette's.
Another stereotype is that Turkish people are violent and we again conform to this when Ugi when
first picks up a gun and we know he doesn’t want to solve his problems verbally but by violence
and this stereotype was first started when Galatasaray fans in Turkey started to stab Leeds united
fans in Turkey.
