1. How does your productrepresentparticularsocialgroups?
Our main Character is male, which is typical of most films, not
just teen dramas. This shows inequality, as only 30.8% of
speaking characters in films are women. Yet, it’s clear that male
leads are more popular
with the audience.
All the three characters
we introduced were teenagers, which
shows the audience more about the
film and its genre. However, our main
character is obviously lower class,
which could show diversity, or be
thought to be biased. This is because we’re showing a life story from the
underdog and not the popular person. Although, mostteen films, such as
submarine, are about the underdog becoming betterand their life working
out in the end.
Our characters also fit into another social group, as they are all white and
so far there has been no ethnic minority. This could be seenas racism.
The dark lighting was specificallychosen to
show the low in characters life. This low key
lighting emphasizes the characters unhappy
mood. The rock music that our main
character listens to gives the audience an
insight into the character's personality. The location of our film is mainly set
in a college, which represents a typical teenagers life. Our character is
dressed like a typical teenagerin his social group, we made him a bit chavy
2. and he didn't care how he looked- He slept in his clothes he was wearing
from the night before and pick dirty clothes of his messybedroom floorto
wear to college.
Teenagers are known to struggle with is relationships, we portray this by
our main character having a crush. Comparing our film to Whip it, where
the film isn’t based around a romance, but the romance in it has a big
impact.
Another thing teenagers face in their daily life is getting up early for college.
We portray this by the clear shot of the alarm clock going off at 7am, to
really emphasis this stereotype.
Teenagers are also known to go to to bed
late, which
we also
emphasis
by showing
the time on
the alarm
clock.
Our main character best friend is dressed
like typical teenage boy but we made him slightly more nerdy and quirky,
with the addition of an old fashioned gameboyand clashing clothes, this
was to show that not everyone sticks to the status quo. In comparisonto 17
Again where the main character, who is considered popular, becomes
friends with an unknown lonely guy.
3. In Shifty we see a young man with
his hood up, which makes him seem like a mysterious closed person. It’s a
stereotype that moodyteenagers and chavs have their hoods up, as it’s
thought that they’re hiding from the trouble they’ve caused. This stereotype
give our character mystery.
