2. The 1975s current digipak
To capture the sound of The 1975,
we researched their existing Digipak
for inspiration for our own. We
wanted to keep the idea the same,
as their songs have a ‘deep’ feel to
them. As you can see, their existing
one follows a very similar theme to
what they are about. There is a
scheme of black and white which not
only follows the CD, and songs but
their style as a band identity. It
follows a ‘block’ layout which we
plan on interpreting onto our own,
but with a twist. The back cover has
the songs inside the square which
links to the front cover which has the
name of the self-titled album, so
there is a clear link between the
whole piece.
3. Back cover
Another version includes the image to the
left, this states all their songs onto one back
cover as opposed to their several different
ones which separate them into EP versions
and discs. The font used is kept the same
through out, which is important as it looks
more professional and creates a link
between the digipak and advert. Again, the
black and white scheme is followed onto
this also.
4. New album
The band are releasing a new
album, due to release in
February. This digipak is clear
example of band exploration,
as they change their sound,
style and colours from black
and white to a vibrant pink.
They however, have kept the
‘block’ layout which keeps
their brand identity alive, even
through their many changes –
the fans/audience can still tell
that it’s the same band despite
the change.
5. With the introduction of life
and bright colours, The 1975
have clearly broadened their
horizons to a new style. We
are keen to adapt to this for
our own digipak/advert as it
makes it easily recognizable.
We also plan to adapt to the
‘block’ style as this is the
only thing that has
remained for the cover.
6. The CD
The CD image they go for is
usually very minimalistic
and simple, as they print out
the bands name/the self-
titled album name on a plain
black background. The font
used is slightly darker, as
although you can still see
and read it, it is not very
obvious that they is text
there. This could link to the
bands ambiguity and
openness to interpretation.
7. Our digipak
Researching the bands
existing material proved to
be successful as when
creating our own, we are
able to adapt to certain
aspects of theirs which are
liked. In terms of what we
plan for our own, we will
keep the ‘block’ layout, as
this has remained through
most of The 1975’s
advertising pieces, giving
them a brand identity.
Another thing, we plan on
adapting is the scenic
background; the band don’t
tend to put themselves on
covers and we will apply this
to our own as its
conventional to do so. We
originally experimented with
images of the female
protagonist, but upon
further speculation, we
decided against it as scenery
would work better.
