A feast of great days, Saturday, at Queen Mary’s Theatre, where
former and actual employees of University Emergency Hospital
have been celebrating three decades of existence of the institution,
in the presence of some prominent guests from Oradea and abroad.
“There are timesinlife when youare grantedwithtrustto do importantthingsforthe community. Our
chance was the fact that thistownhad people whowantedthe rebirthof the hospitals.Fortunately, this
thingsucceededinourcase and letme say that our hospital hasrebirthinthe last7 years”, saidthe
manager Gheorghe Carp, who openedthe event, reminding about the “political will” of those
who made the unit really deserve the title of clinical emergency hospital, but also the reputation
of high class, due to the national medical acheevements, such as the first thrombolysis, made
recently, in Romania.
Time zero, decentralization
2. While the curtain used as screen was projecting images reflecting the activity of the Hospital,
Carp gave thanks, one at a time, to the main guests, the first one being the former Minister of
Health of the Government Boc, now a senator, Cseke Attila (foto), for the courage to implement
the decentralization of the health system by shifting most important hospitals in every county to
local authorities.
Cseke , in return responded by giving thanks, to “the teams of, City Council, City Hall and the
County Council”, and also to doctors from Oradea, who as opposed to those from the rest of the
country, “You have received me warmly even though I was a minister who was not a doctor ”,
then joking that wouldn’t have been excluded a comeback on this post, although “I think at the
Ministry of Transport would be a greater need of me ', given the degradation of road
infrastructure.”
After he received a plaque from the manager of the hospital, as everyone else invited- was about
to, Cseke was followed by his successor at the Ministry, dr. Ritli Ladislau, who has been present
at the inauguration 30 years ago, too, and whom Carp presented with humor, saying “I was chief,
and he was chief, and we are still friends.”
Hints for the County
3. As there were three prefects in the room, two former (Bolojan Ilie and Gabriel Ghilea), plus the
actual one, Carp gave the microphone to Claudiu Pop, whom he referred to for the effort to be
keen to participate after being in Tulcea a night before this event.
Instead, the manager thanked, ironically the County Council representative, Anca Dodescu
(foto), saying that “we owe much to County Council, for granting us in charge of City Hall of
Oradea” (an allusion to the fact that in 2010, when the President of County Council was Radu
Ţîrle, he gave the Municipal Hospital to the Ministry of Health), and “for the money it will
support us with in the future.”
One by one, talked the chief executive of the National Health Insurance, Vasile Ciurchea (who
promised that “I will think more to support the County Hospital in Oradea”), his predecessor,
Cristian Buşoi, rector of the University of Oradea, Paul Negruţ, rector of Emanuel University,
Constantin Bungău (who praised the partnership with the Municipal and County Hospital, saying
that medical students now benefit from all the facilities for practical training), the general Ioan
Baş Head of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the quaestor Liviu Popa, Police Chief of
Bihor (to whom Carp said they are the beneficiaries of Forensic Medicine department), former
Secretary of State in the Ministry of Health Cristian Irimie, former prefect Gavrila Ghilea and
others.
Open stage eulogy
4. One of the greatest expert of the medicine area in Cluj, neurosurgeon Ioan Ştefan Florian, told
Oradea`s citizens that are “very lucky” because they had two ministers of Health, while
“we had a Prime Minister (N.r. - Emil Boc), but we didn’t managed to do as much as Oradea.”
The professor from Cluj praised, also, the mayor Ilie Bolojan and the manager Gheorghe Carp,
repeating that “I can only envy”, the modernizing hospitals in Oradea, at a level he never met in
the country.
Surprisingly, the mayor Ilie Bolojan was praised also by the former medical director of the
hospital, Adrian Maghiar (foto), who said that 'Oradea has a prime minister, and a local prime
minister mister mayor Bolojan, who supported county hospital as no authority ever did it”, and
the professor Gheorge Bumbu, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, head of urology,
remembering that it is due to him the status of 'flagship' that we have unity among hospitals in
the city and county.
Through the tears…
5. A touching moment, which led many to tears, occurred when manager Carp thanked Dr. Foldes
Adalbert (photo), commissioned by City Hall as a member of the Boards of Directors at both
County Hospital and at the Municipal Hospital. “It is a surprise that today I amhere,” Foldes
began, immediately bursting into tears because, as only relatives knew, he’s seriously ill. “Many
years colleagues, many years at the Hospital!”, and stopped his speech, drowned into tears.
Other strong emotional moment was the moment when Carp thanked the Soriţău family, the
prerector of the Emanuel University, who married an American lady, whose daughter,
Victoriana, was diagnosed at the age of 2 years old with a severe form of cancer. “We have
learned that when we are suffering the right question is not Why me, Lord, but What to do
now?”, said the prerector of the University of Emanuel, Carp then explained that because of this
family, more doctors from Oradea could do training courses in the USA, at elite hospitals in
Atlanta and Pensacola and other doctors have benefited from the experience of American
colleagues in Pensacola and Wichita who agreed to come to Oradea for them and share in
internships.
... sobriety ...
The last person whom the manager wanted to give thanks was the mayor Ilie Bolojan, but he said
that they were having an agreement “that we will never congratulate us, for doing our duty”, and
in consequence, did not provide a plaque as to the other guests.
6. Deeply affected, the mayor reviewed the early moments of the hospital reform in Oradea, when
it was viewed askance by some doctors as an intruder, until the present. Bolojan emphasized that
he always felt that in order to have quality health care, the city needed 'three pillars': conditions
for work performance, modern logistics and “good people”. Also, Bolojan thanked the former
ministers for cooperation, but outlined that the first step in the modernization of hospitals in
Oradea, was made by Eugen Nicolaescu, with the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery using
devices with minimally invasive angiogram which he reckoned, moreover, as 'bridge head' for all
the other amenities that followed.
Finally, Bolojan thanked both representatives of the Medical University of Cluj, of the Heart
Institute and the Cancer Institute and the University of Oradea, especially the former dean
Gheorghe Bumbu, companies from Oradea who made donations to hospitals and to “those who
have worked and are working at County Hospital, starting with the doorman, stretcher-bearer, to
nurses and doctors entering the operating room.”
…and laughter
Before the end of the event arrived with the highlighting of the heads of departments from the
hospital, which made, according to Carp “the County to be part of all national health programs”,
another special and tasted by the public moment, was the one when chief of neurosurgery,
professor Dumitru Mohan (left in photo), addressed the mayor with a special and personal
prayer, supported by all colleagues.
7. Moving very hard, supported by his son, Aurel, who is also his subordinate at the hospital,
Mohan used a true-born language of Bihor. “Mr. Mayor, do not mind that they didn’t give you a
medal. I will make you a medal like you’ve never seen before, just make parking lots for the
doctors”, he said in the applause of the counterparts.
Finally, Carp invited his classmates to attend a special performance, by musicians, just for them
by Philharmonic, who performed famous pieces from various music works.
