Short Story Of Dystopia
John lives with his wife, patricia and a daughter named sia in a big, fancy mansion. John and
patricia own the best coffee shop in the town, dystopia. Sia loves the pumpkin spice latte with
strawberry whip cream. The coffee shop became popular when sia was born five years ago, 2116.
The chocklit family do grocery shopping in macadame loft for their coffee shop. Everyone in 2121
in Dystopia pay with their face. There are security scanning machines with facial recognition
system. Everyone pays with their face in the coffee shop. One day, a young man ordered a
chocolate, whipped cappucino and almost walked out the door.
John saw the man running away and hit the star screw laser to lock the exit doors. The man touched
the door and got shocked and fell down. John caught him and tied him up to a chair. He asked him
why he did not pay. The man started to cry and asked for forgiveness. He wanted a refreshing drink
and said he could not afford it. Patricia got teeny mag to scan the man's face. John used the device to
scan his face that he was supposed to pay with. All the details and record of the man came up.
Brown eyes, brown hair, 5 feet and 11 inches tall, born and lives in Dystopia and unemployed,
David Rafany. There was a gloomy and sympathetic impression on John's face. John decided
without hesitation, offered David a job at the coffee shop until he is able to stand up on his feet.
Patricia introduced all rules to David and said he will be supervised at all times. He was grateful and
praised them. John finally untied him. John tried to scan the man's face so many times but did not
work. The alarm went off and the alarm heat up. He dropped it and the device blew up. Smoke
everywhere, customers ran out and the fire began to spread within the shop. Patricia pushed the red
knob to call fire rescuers. Fire rescuers rushed in and destroyed all the face scan payment devices.
"Oh no! These devices are out of control" Sia said. David apologized.
John decided without hesitation and offered David a job at the coffee shop until he is able to stand
up on his feet. Patricia introduced all the rules to David and said he will be supervised at all times.

It Requires Maximum Effort For Ensuring Secure Boundaries...
It requires maximum effort to ensure secure boundaries of this company's network from. After
people, information is our greatest asset which is why it would be in the company's best interest to
invest in its protection. When we take the defensive approach we tend to attempt thinking along the
lines as an attacker. It's helpful to be familiar with several of the tools that are made available to
them and the ways these devices are used. More often than not an attack is planned. These incidents
happen in segments and there is a method to an attackers approach.
Therefore, most attacks do not merely happen. The attacks are elaborately planned out in phases.
There is the research phase, which is when the attacker collects data on its target. ... Show more

We could then act to protect those areas so that they are not unwanted doors to our critical data.
Once the vulnerability scans are active and in place, I suggest a strong stateful firewall that will
detect infiltration. This firewall should be capable of stateful inspections. Network/Host Intrusion
Detection Systems (IDS) are helpful in alerting of a breach. In addition, an unused ports should be
closed and filter the excess. Firewalls can help with the ports as well as port scanners (EC Council,
2010, p. 3–18). These are recommended administration tools that will defend against network
attacks.
Scanning tools can aid the work on a network on either side. They are comparable guns, they can be
used to harm or protect. Security scanners move through a list of known areas of weakness and
explore each system (Tittle, 2003). There are also IP scanners, audits, and web server scanners
available to add to the protective layers. Attackers' access to tools to assist in their attacks and the
key is to be the best position to prepare for those attacks. Popular among the Black hats are port
scanners similar to Hping2. Used maliciously port scanning is based on a system or rhythm to
search for ports in order to gain entry (Stewart, 2000). Hping2 is a command line based tool capable
of using ICMP echo request to analyze data. The tool is powerful in that it's not only a port

Muckrakers in the Progressive Era
Muckrakers The term "muckraker" was originally coined in a speech in 1906 accredited to President
Theodore Roosevelt. It was alluding to the man with the Muck–Rake in Bunyan's "Pilgrim's
Process. The Man with the Muck rake seeks material advances by raking filth. Roosevelt defined
this term as "one who inquires into and publishes scandal and allegations of corruption among
political and business leaders". Muckrakers in the Progressive Era, a time from 1820 until 1920
when America quickly industrialized, pushed for reform and have altered the way we live today.
These reformers brought about the awareness and tackled women's rights, economic concentration,
corporate power, poverty, food safety, and political corruption. ... Show more content on

In time, she became the group's association's state organizer during the years of 1980 to 1892. Mrs.
Catt soon started working in the national organization of National American Woman Suffrage

In 1892, she was asked by Susan B. Anthony to address Congress on the proposed suffrage

legislators to give women the right of suffrage as citizens. After women achieved the franchise, Catt
reorganized the National American Women Suffrage Association into the League of Women Voters.
Carrie Chapman Catt formulated a plan to achieve women's suffrage. In April 1911, Carrie began a

Nessus Research Paper
Nessus is a top–notch vulnerability scanner produced by Tenable and is used by home and corporate
users. Basically, it looks for bugs in your software. It sets the standard for accuracy and scanning
speed for vulnerability assessment. Nessus will test for security problems that a hacker may use to
get into your system. The Tenable research staff constantly designs programs to detect new
vulnerabilities called plugins. Plugins use a set of generic remediation actions and algorithms to test
for vulnerabilities. (Tenable) It is written using Tenable's own NASL, Nessus Attack Scripting
Language. (TechTarget Network) The NASL language lets individual attacks be described simply by
security professionals. Nessus administrators use the NASL to customize their own scans with the

An Overview of Modern Philosophies of Education
Overview
Philosophy means "love of wisdom." It is made up of two Greek words, philo, meaning love, and
sophos, meaning wisdom. Philosophy helps teachers to reflect on key issues and concepts in
education, usually through such questions as: What is being educated? What is the good life? What
is knowledge? What is the nature of learning? And What is teaching? Philosophers think about the
meaning of things and interpretation of that meaning. Even simple statements, such as "What should
be learned? Or What is adolescence?" set up raging debates that can have major implications. For
example, what happens if an adolescent commits a serious crime? One interpretation may hide
another. If such a young person is treated as an adult criminal, what ... Show more content on

Plato also believed that the soul is fully formed prior to birth and is perfect and at one with the
Universal Being. The birth process checks this perfection, so education requires bringing latent ideas
(fully formed concepts) to consciousness.
In idealism, the aim of education is to discover and develop each individual's abilities and full moral
excellence in order to better serve society. The curricular emphasis is subject matter of mind:
literature, history, philosophy, and religion. Teaching methods focus on handling ideas through
lecture, discussion, and Socratic dialogue (a method of teaching that uses questioning to help
students discover and clarify knowledge). Introspection, intuition, insight, and whole–part logic are
used to bring to consciousness the forms or concepts which are latent in the mind. Character is
developed through imitating examples and heroes.
Pragmatism –is the philosophy of considering practical consequences or real effects to be vital
components of meaning and truth. Pragmatism is generally considered to have originated in the late
nineteenth century with Charles Pierce, who first stated the pragmatic maxim. It came to fruition in
the early twentieth–century philosophies of William James and John Dewey and, in a more
unorthodox manner, in the works of George Santayana. Other important aspects of pragmatism
include anti–Cartesianism, radical empiricism,

Federal Tax Policies For The United States
Despite the revisions on the Amendment throughout the following decades, and on into the
twentieth century, the in come tax today is as reasonably fair to the public as the taxations have ever
been, and probably ever will be. The Primary concern here is that today, federal income tax accounts
for somewhat half of the federal revenue. With tax reform, the government never sought a way out
of debt for their homeland, it was, and always will be a way to claim money from the human
resources it ultimately requires to participate in war, then takes the majority of that money and funds
war. The US tax policies will always–incorporate enough revenue to stay at war, even if the well
being of the US is not in direct threat of any entities either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Republican parties seem to favor lower tax rates with less movement of the rates of taxation
across the tax bracket. The Democratic parties are leaning more towards raising taxes on those in
higher tax brackets on the basis that the government should obtain more revenue from those who
can afford it more easily. However, as the Amendment is written, maybe the 16th Amendment
wouldn't be fare to those households with higher income being taxed at a heavier rate than those of
lower income households. The 16th Amendment is written to contain such elements to ensure it
being constitutional, however these same elements could do just the opposite. In regards to the
abilities of the 16th Amendment, Erik Jenson shows that is possible, " A simple example makes the
point: suppose states A and B have equal populations, but state A's citizens have double the income
of those in state B. With apportionment, the total collected from the two states would have to be
equal. On average, the citizens of state B would have to pay tax at double the rates applicable to
citizens in state A". (Jenson, 109:799(2014)) This would be the part where we show thanks that the
government doesn't weigh heavier taxes on those who of higher income homes because the
pendulum swings both ways. The New Deal of the 1930's may also be constitutional; as well at it
may also be apportioned. With the Presidents passed being concerned with the freedom and equality

Features of a Good Tax System
QUESTION 1
Discuss the features of a good tax system and review the Malaysian income tax system in relation to
those relevant features. Explain how you would bring about a better tax system, particular with
reference to personal taxation, if you were given such an opportunity.
Taxation means the government impose charges on the citizen and corporate entities in order to
finance their expenditure. Taxation is use to encourage or discourage certain economic decision such
as reduction in taxable personal income by the amount paid as interest on home mortgage loans
results in greater construction activity and generates more jobs.

The tax system should be simple, plain and intelligible to the common understanding. For example,
the Malaysian taxation scope of charge before the year assessment 2004, the tax was imposed on the
income accruing in or derived from Malaysia or received in Malaysia from outside Malaysia. After
the year assessment of 2004, no tax will be imposed on the income received in Malaysia from
outside Malaysia excluding the company that involve in banking, insurance and sea and air
transport.
Stability: The government needs a stable and dependable source of tax revenue so they can manage
the country's economy. The aim of tax reform is to make sure the federal government can achieve its
economic objectives. Malaysian tax law system is stable and remained unchanged for so many
years. These unchanged tax law will attract foreign investors to invest in Malaysian company thus
improve the economic growth.
General deductions: General deductions functions is to help lighter the burden of the tax payer
which is the corporations. All outgoings and expenses wholly and exclusively incurred during that
period in the production of gross income from that source will be deducted. Outgoing and expenses
refers to the business losses which incurred due to theft, bad debts and etc. The deduction will be
given to the wholly and exclusively expenses incurred for the direct purpose of the business. The
expenses need to be incurred for the purpose of earning the gross income.

The information found is supported by evidence and is the same we use in our practice. The problem
is that insurance companies will pay for standard screening with Nuchal Translucency, but they will
not pay for cell–free DNA testing unless the standard screening comes back high risk, the patient is
advanced maternal age, or has a history of a previous birth affected by aneuploidy. Cell–free DNA
testing includes X Y analysis, so the patient is able to find out the sex of the baby around 10 weeks.
This is becoming a popular request just to find out the gender. Insurance companies have now
caught on to this trend, and are refusing to pay for the X Y analysis of the cell–free DNA test, which
does include specific abnormalities associated with X Y abnormalities. Medicaid will cover the
standard screening, but will not pay for cell free DNA testing. We have 3 patients at high risk and
have done prior authorizations through Medicaid, they still refuse to cover. One being a patient who
tested high risk for trisomy 21 on her standard screening, one who is advanced maternal age, and
one who had a previous pregnancy with a child with Down

Update the Recurring Sin Tax Law that Was Newly...
Rationale of the Study This study was drawn to update the recurring sin tax law that was newly
implemented by the President of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino by assessing its effect to the
consumers of sin products and has given fruitful grounds and suggestions for future research in this
field.
In belief, the purpose of the imposition of excise tax on sin products is to raise revenues and
discouraging the consumption of the tobacco products and alcoholic beverages. It is claimed that
higher excise taxes on tobacco will make some smokers to quit, and reduce consumption of
continuing smokers, and prevent others from starting (Sunley, 2009). Because the demand for
cigarettes is relatively price inelastic, the expectation is that higher taxes will yield higher revenues
in the near term while preventing smoking in the longer term. If a tax is imposed on a good, verbally
express excise taxes on alcohol or tobacco, it may possibly have influenced the decision of how
many to consume and make efficiency cost (Badenes–Plá & Jones, 2003). In contrast, according to
McGee (2000), liquor and cigarettes are had insensitive to changes of price that many of the
consumers of sin products continue to buy it regardless of the increase in its prices. Then, it becomes
usual that there will be a protest on excise tax for the reason that this sin tax law will not cause a
reduction to their demand in sin products. In worldwide tax rates, Philippines obtain the lowest rate

America 's Tax Policy Is Not Appropriate For The United...
A very controversial topic in today 's society is America 's tax policy. Currently, there is three
different solutions to the current tax system. One is lowering the rate for progressive tax, our current
tax system, which is progressively higher tax rate with more income. The second is fair tax, which is
where people are only taxed for buying goods, not their income. The most suitable solution, is where
everyone is treated fairly and must pay the same percentage of tax; this is known as flat tax. Our
current tax policy is not appropriate for the United States of America.
The current tax system is named progressive tax. Progressive tax is established off the people who
make more money pay more in taxes while the people who make less money pay less in taxes. This
system does not fit in well with today 's society because the more compensated are charged much
more than the less compensated, "the top 1% of taxpayers have consistently paid more in federal
income taxes than the bottom 90% since 2003 and that share has increased almost every year since
1980" (Phillips). Having the top 1% of taxpayers pay more than the super majority of the country is
extraordinarily unfair to the 1%. A main principle of the United States is equality, so the tax policy
should be more equal. With flat tax enacted every person would be paying the identical percentage
of tax. With this in mind, it is not exactly equal, but very close. On the flip side, it does give the
lower income people a break while

Women in the Progressive Era Essay
In the 1890s, American women emerged as a major force for social reform. Millions joined civic
organizations and extended their roles from domestic duties to concerns about their communities
and environments. These years, between 1890 and 1920, were a time of many social changes that
later became known as the Progressive Era. In this time era, millions of Americans organized
associations to come up with solutions to the many problems that society was facing, and many of
these problems were staring American women right in the face.
Women began to speak out against the laws that were deliberately set against them. Throughout this
time period, women were denied the right to vote in all federal and most state held elections.

Progressivism was not just a single movement, rather it was several different organizations of people
trying to accomplish their own goals. Keep in mind, this era was a few decades long, so many things
were accomplished over a long period of time. Women exercised what they saw as their rights as
citizens to shape public policy and create institutions.
Progressivism generally took two forms: Political and Social reform. What most social reformers
found was that they could not rely on people doing the "right" and "moral" thing all the time. If law
is going to be used for social reform, who is going to make the law? Politicians. However, politics

that the future for a new America ultimately depended on changing the government and politics.

Government, Politics, And Economics
Think about the US government. When people usually surmise about the US government, a few
general words come about. Some of the words people will say are: corruption, politics, and
economics. Economics or money is usually the first that comes to people's mind. Why ? Because it's
all around about us, and it's a heavily debatable topic. The US government was given the right to
control money in different areas of the public economy. Some of those areas being in foreign
commerce, tax regulations, and social security. However these amendments have made the US adopt
the theory of laissez faire. The United States needs to extend more economic regulation. The first
time the US government had implemented the idea that taxes would generate money was about 100
years ago. In the US about a century ago, taxes were very archaic. Americans would fill out a page,
about a half a page or so and they'd be done. Today, it's like trying to find Waldo in crowd of
millions of people. The article
Simplifying Taxes Is the Fairest, Fastest Way to Grow Our Economy By Peter Rush stated: "to
reform the tax system, Congress should look to the original tax code that was simple with few
deductions and a flat, but progressive tax rate––as high as 6 percent! All income was equal––there
was no distinction on how money was earned whether it came from wages, rent, dividend and
capital gains. That change by itself would create a more uniform and less politically volatile
discussion of taxation. Warren Buffet

Protecting American Jobs Essay
Protecting American Jobs
For the past two decades Americans have been getting laid off because their jobs are being
transferred offshore. "Advances in technology and low–cost telecommunications now mean that a
computer programmer, data entry specialist, or help–desk operator answering calls for a U.S.
company can work as easily from India or the Philippines as from Iowa––and save parent
companies some 30 percent to 70 percent in costs" (Otterman, 2004). This poses the question should
the government protect American jobs by imposing stiff penalties on companies that transfer jobs
offshore by outsourcing or manufacturing. No, stiffer taxes are not going to significantly effect the
number of jobs that are being transferred off shore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consumers want the best quality at the lowest price and the investors want to see a high profit, so to
do that companies have to find the middle ground. Which means they have to find the best solution
for everyone even if it means outsourcing jobs offshore because it more cost effective for the
company. According to Jagdish N. Bhagwati, "employing workers at lower cost allows U.S.
companies to be more efficient and productive, permitting them to create the same amount of goods
with fewer resources. In turn, this lowers the price of the goods in the United States, strengthening
U.S. companies and freeing workers for other tasks. The savings allows U.S. companies to stay
afloat and expand in a highly competitive global market" (Otterman, 2004). Outsourcing is not
always a bad, it is a change, and change is what pushes both our economy and our nation forward.
Another good point that has been made is, the average global tax rate on multinational corporations
is about 27 percent, compared to 39 percent in the United States (Wolverson, 2011). Given this
information it would seem that instead of penalizing our multinational corporations for increasing
international trade, maybe the United States government should focus more on bring in
multinational corporations from other countries. This would not only create more jobs in the untied
states to compensate for the ones that are being lost overseas but also

The Progressive Era
The Progressive Era – Liberal or Conservative
During the latter part of the nineteenth century, presumably around the 1890's, it became known as
the Progressive Era, a time of change, reform, and adaptation. As Vernon L. Parrignton put it, it was
a "democratic renaissance" (Vernon L. Parrington in The Progressive Movement: Liberal or
Conservative). So what was Progressivism? Well, its main goals were to curb corporate power, to
end business monopolies, and to wipe out political corruption. They also wanted to democratize
electoral procedures, protect working people, and bridge the gap between social classes. They called
for reforms such as the referendum, initiative, and the recall. They wanted the Americanization of
the immigrant and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is clear here that he supported that the Progressive Movement was liberal.
The term conservative is used to describe someone or something that favors traditional views and
values, and tends to oppose change (Dictionary.com: Conservative). Unlike the historians like Hicks
and Parrington, others, such as John Chamberlain and Richard Hofstadter believed that the
Progressive Movement was that of a conservative one. Instead of seeing progressivism as a
movement to correct American society, John Chamberlain saw it as a complete and abysmal failure,
nothing but a bunch of people who "were motivated by an escapist desire to return to a golden past
where honesty and virtue had dominated over egoism and evil" (The Progressive Movement: Liberal
or Conservative). If the Progressive Movement is looked at as a conservative movement, one can
concur that it was just a cover up for a moral crusade. During the latter part of the nineteenth century
people of high status such as lawyers, professors, and clergymen were being ousted out of power. In
response, these people went on a moral crusade to restore individualistic values based on the idea
that only men of character should rule. (Richard Hofstadter in The Progressive Movement: Liberal
or Conservative). According to George E. Mowry, progressivism was nothing but a "movement by a
particular class aimed at reasserting its declining position of leadership" (George E.

We have adopted a culture of providing high–level health services to small communities to match
those available in large urban areas. We offer impressive capabilities such as 24 hour service seven
days per week which we consider to be our competitive advantage in this industry. Our people have
always been committed to maintaining Quinte's culture of integrity and personal attentiveness to the
health services we provide.
There is significant demand for MRI scans in the United States. The annual scan rate is
approximately 68 per 1000 people. It is anticipated that the demand for MRI scans in Adelaide
County will continue to grow at approximately 15 percent per year. In addition, the Cancer rate of
Adelaide County is higher than the national average, making this partnership with BCMC a
sustainable business decision for Quinte.
At time of opening, turnkey operations were set up in the mobile clinic to service BCMC at full
capacity. We leased and installed a 1.5–Tesla GE short–bore high–speed MRI system at the
hospital's request. The incentive of entering into this deal with BCMC was to hold 100% interest
and be responsible for most of our operations and management. This was a strategic move since
interest held in all of our other clinics is currently less than 20 percent.
When we negotiated the contract with BCMC, we did not discuss training requirements

The Death Of The Frontier And Progressive Era Essay
Ragtime is full with a myriad number of characters, from Harry Houdini to Booker T Washington,
but the pivotal characters in my eyes were Mother and Father. There's something to be said when the
main characters of a novel don't even have names, unlike the many other minor characters, who
were major players in history. What makes them stand out even more is the fact that Mother and
Father weren't the only fictional characters, however, they as long as all of the members of their
family, including Little Girl who would join Mother's family at the end of the tale, were the only
ones who were not named. That's because it's an obvious way for Doctorow to use them as a symbol
for the typical middle–class American family during the Progressive Era. However, this is not the
only role they had. In addition, the death of the Frontier and the birth of the Progressive Era is
shown in Ragtime through the developing relationship between Father and Mother who represent
the Frontier and Progressive Era respectively. The relationship they share is a unique one and vital to
the image Doctorow is trying to depict, the change occurring in time. There's a reason Father and
Mother, a married couple, were used in this way rather than another relationship, and that is because
an era does not erratically die, but rather the merging of new and old ideas forms a marriage
between the two eras before one is completed. Just like two time periods, Father and Mother change
positions. While Father grows

Freedom Writers Film Techniques
The film "Freedom Writers" by Richard LaGravenese has been successful in terms of expressing the
emotions of students through their diaries but also engaging the audience emotions through the
characters' gang experiences. The character of Mrs Gruwell(Mrs G) is a teacher of low performing
students trying to achieve their goals against all odds. Techniques the director used to show this
include flashbacks, non–diegetic sound, spot light and pan shots which are all important in sending
the message to the audience that family problems and violence have a big impact on the students
lives.

This is achieved through the use of pan shots, combined with non–diegetic sounds. In the scene
where Brandy was reading her diary, a pan shot was used to show that she was living in a poor
neighbourhood and the negative conditions associated with it. When her dad aggressively pulled her
mum through the room and out of the house she described the violence the family experience at the
hands of her dad. A mid shot was used to express the anger in the dad's face but also the tears and
screaming in her mum's face. This focuses the audience's attention on the domestic violence that
Brandy experiences. The director portrays this through Brandy's voice over dialogue, " I watched
my mother being half beaten to death....." This is a powerful use of non diegetic sound combined
with a pan shot. This allows the audience to see that the whole family was living in a small house
with one bedroom. The reason why the director combines the panning effect with sound is to have a
stronger effect and draw stronger emotions from the audience. The use of voiceover and non
diegetic sounds create a stronger and more realistic mood for the audience. The use of voiceover
during the scene of her mum getting violently pulled and pushed is mixed with panning shots to also
show the reaction of the rest of the family as they witnessed the violence. Through the use of these
techniques the director encourages audience to think about and emotionally understand what a lot of
young people in abusive families go through and the struggles which make them who they are

The Pros And Cons Of Electronic Voting
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a ballot is defined as, "a sheet of paper used to cast a
secret vote" or "the action or system of secret voting". Why talk about what a ballot is though? The
answer is quite simple actually. There is a question going around Eaton County right now; a
question on almost every voter's mind. Should Eaton County switch to electronic voting or stick
with paper ballots? In order to understand what this question is asking, we should look at what a
ballot is, ergo the reason of the definition of a ballot. Now there are only two decisions to the
question of electronic voting or sticking with paper ballots. In all honesty, Eaton County should not
change to an electronic–based ballot voting system and instead stay with the paper ballots. One of
the reasons why Eaton County should stick with paper voting is because of the complications that
would arise if the county was to switch to electronic voting. There would be the hassle of getting the
electronic voting machines, of setting them up, the maintenance that would have to be done with
them. It would end up costing the county more money than the paper ... Show more content on

One of the many upsides to electronic voting is the fact that the voting process speeds up. Now there
is a machine doing all the counting and sending out all the information, people don't have to count
the votes by hand and send out the information themselves anymore. There is also the fact that basic
election faults, like picking too many or no candidates can also be stopped easily by the machines
themselves. Ballot tampering is also reduced as a problem in voting fraud because of electronic
voting (Espinoza and Lin, 2007). In a place like Eaton County though, there really is no need for
electronic ballots. It is not a huge place to be in the first place, and once again it would be a waste of
time and money to do something like

The Flat Tax And Tax
The flat tax carries many names. Among these names are the "fair tax," "progressive tax" or a
"consumption tax." Despite these nicknames, the flat tax is a proposal that taxes are collected on
different goods and services. The basic premise is that everyone pays a certain percentage of tax on
the things that they buy. This percentage varies depending on who is making the particular proposal.
This idea of a tax on goods rather than on income has different arguments for and against it. The
first major argument of the flat tax is that it everyone pays the same percentage. This seemingly
simple statement has managed to split up into sides. One side of the coin, there is a certain amount
of fairness employed. Everyone pays the same exact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second major argument in regards to the flat tax is that it creates a simple tax rate that is easily
calculable by the average individual. While there is no argument about the complexity of the tax
code, there are still arguments pertaining to making taxes simple. One side is concerned about the
economic effects that simplification of the code will have on business operations. Since many of the
tax exemptions center around corporate operations, there are potentially some business that might
see a dramatic increase in taxes while other will see a dramatic drop in rates. Those businesses that
operate solely in selling consumer goods such as cars will see a much higher tax bill than those that
operate more on offering services. On the other side of this, the tax code will be simple enough that
anyone can calculate it. This means that people can estimate how much they are going to spend on
taxes. The argument is that this will boost the economy because people are able to plan and spend
their money better. With better planning, people may invest more and save more. Better money
management also leads to better credit scores and will help to loosen up the credit market. However,
that won 't always be the case since there are many different factors that play into how a consumer
spends their money. The third major argument is that it will shrink Government.

Progessives and The Pure Food and Drug Act Essay
At the turn of the century America entered a new age that many historians call the Progressive Era.
During this time period, the American Political system changed its view on how America should be
brought about. It provided a purification of the American government through direct democracy.
This era included many social and political reforms, which were brought about due to monopolies,
and trust corporations. One the key pieces of legislation that was a prime example of the progressive
era, was the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906. This law came about due to muckraking, and also
because of public and political interests. Muckraking, such as Upton Sinclair's piece, "The Jungle",

These articles shifted the popular opinion in favor of a law being made to protect the regulation of

There were other measures that formed this bill, but it was the muckraking that pushed for the

question the quality of their food and how it was being processed. Also locals would write about
such instances, such as when Adams wrote about the quality of the machines that came in contact
with the meat. This outraged many citizens causing many groups to bombard Congress with their
concerns. Also during this time, there were certain advances that labeled the food market during this
time one of which is the development of cheaper food products. These cheaper products allowed for
more competition between these cheaper brands and the more dominant more expensive brands.
However, these cheaper brands did provide stiff competition for the dominant brands, but in this
case was not necessarily a good thing. While the cheaper products did save those companies money,
it hurt them in the public interest in the long run. This was because there were no regulations and the
companies could alter the food and deceive the consumer, because of this. There was also the fear of
the unknown, such as what the company has to done the food product and how their food was being

Los Angeles police are using biometrical recognition now. Biometrics, the ability to indentify an
individual by measuring key unique biophysical attributes, such as a picture of the iris could
revolutionize the policing. If we step back on the history, the twentieth century saw fingerprinting

biometrics. Some reports suggest that recognition error rates can be as high as ten per cent. No

Once the picture of the iris is taken, the storage process begins; template will be stored in the

Persuasive Essay On Society Hacking
Have you ever had your phone or computer hacked before? I know I have, and many times it
happens without me even realizing it. In today's society hacking has become so easy that even the
most inexperienced hackers can manage to steal your private data. This is one of my main reasons

integrity of the vote it also saves states on the hefty costs to obtain and routinely maintenance these
machines. EVMs also may sound good to the new generation of Iphone and Android cell phone

the words that can be used to describe America as it moved into the twentieth century; change was

Though the people of the progressive and reform era are labeled as progressives, the fact that they
share a name does not mean that all their ideals were the same as well. Progressives were divided
mainly into two camps and from those into even smaller ones. There were the progressives who
wanted to go back to the good old days, those who wanted to preserve the way of life that was
slipping through their fingers, and then there were those who wanted to address the changes by
making changes. Some progressives felt that it was necessary to preserve the way of life that was
fast disappearing in America. On the other hand some progressives felt that the government needed
to be run differently because of all of the changes in public and private sector. Either way, change
was part of the equation. The progressive era was composed of many people, each possessing one,

Abstract
At present day's usage of computers, laptops, mobile phones and security systems increasing day by
day. In order to protect the data from unauthorized access authentication is necessary. The most
common methodology used for authentication are passwords and passcodes which has some
disadvantages. To overcome the disadvantages of Passwords and Passcodes, Biometric Scan
Technologies are introduced. Biometric scan Technologies are most advanced and reliable
authentication techniques than Passwords and Passcode authentication methods. In this paper we
discuss the importance of Biometrics Scan Technologies over Passwords and Passphrase.
Introduction
The most important part in the Data Security is Authentication of user. The authentication is a
process of verifying the identity of the users based on the credentials (username and passwords). "In
security systems, Authentication is distinct from authorization which is the process of giving
individuals access to system objects on their identity "(3). Authentication merely ensures that
individual is who he or she claims to be, but says nothing about the access rights of the individual
discussion. Passwords and passcodes are used to authenticate devices. Biometric scan technology
are recently introduced to authenticate the users by finger prints, retina scanner and facial scanner.
The reliability and security of the Biometric scan methods is superior to the Password Technology.

Essay about Fair Tax: Avoidance of Taxes
PA 8720 – "Fair Tax" Policy Analysis
John Maynard Keynes stated that "the avoidance of taxes is the only intellectual pursuit that carries
any reward," (Waters, 2011). In Missouri, while seeking to avoid an income tax, advocates for the
"Fair Tax" have seemingly presented a proposal that is the antithesis of the pursuit Keynes deems
worthy. They are proposing a constitutional amendment that would impose a sales tax that no
Missourian could avoid. The "Fair Tax" would cost everyone, no matter their income level and even
have its greatest impact on the most vulnerable among us. Even as a tax of this type would expand
the tax base, the repercussions to the taxpayers, the state budget, and the state economy would
present hurdles too high to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The initiative petition however, caps the state sales tax at seven percent ("Constitutional amendment
to," 2012); leaving no mechanism for recovering such a substantial loss in revenue. James Moody, a
former budget director, called the proposal "fiscally untenable," stating that it would "either
bankrupt the state, or in the alternative, bankrupt the poor and working lower and middle income
classes." (Moody, 2011).
This dilemma is furthered when exemptions are taken into account. Just as Irene Rubin noted in The
Politics of Public Budgeting (2010), "as the burden on a group increases, the demand for exceptions
for that group is likely to increase." Moody applies this notion to the "Fair Tax" when stating that
"the simple math is that exemptions from taxation lower the taxable base," and that "the more tax
exemptions assumed, the lower the tax base, and the higher the tax rate has to be," (2011). In a
Columbia Daily Tribune editorial, Henry Waters stated "the new sales tax would instantly become
riddled with exemptions," and that "for every exemption, the rate must go up," (2011).
Under the proposal, cities and counties would have the ability to levy an additional sales tax on top
of the tax imposed by the state, but the total is not to exceed ten percent. If current local rates stood,
those shopping in St. Louis city would need to pay up to 11.275 percent on most purchases, with
those in St. Louis County paying up to

Analysis Of Progressive Moms In Hymn Berkin
Progressive moms composed via Hymn Berkin is about the imperative part ladies played all through
the Progressive War and how they were influenced. It clarifies all angles in a lady's existence with
an extensive variety of individual records from all kinds of different backgrounds, rich and poor.
Any individual who is occupied with the historical backdrop of the progressive war or the lives of
ladies amid this time and might want to look further into it would appreciate this book. It isn't just
for researchers however understudies too because of the magnificent way it was composed and how
the ladies' stories were told.
Tune Berkin is an educator of American History at Baruch School and the Graduate focus of the city
College of New york. Berkin composed this book to uncover a side of the Progressive War that few
had seen. She trusted the Progressive War depicted an improbable perspective of sentiment, gallant
leaders and dashing aristocrat all dreams which had nothing to do with the monstrous reality. Some
of these truths were families who were torn separated, ladies who were assaulted and the general
every day life of a lady amid this period.
In the earliest reference point of Progressive Moms the parts of ladies amid the eighteenth century
were clarified. In one case from Representative Edward Hopkins it was said that he trusted his better
half had gone insane and the thinking behind it he knew was from perusing books; something he
accepted just men ought to do since

The Progressive Era Was A Political Movement
The Progressive Era was a political movement aimed towards eliminating the influence and
corruption of corporations in politics, and making the California government more of a democracy.
This took place at the beginning of the 20th century and started in the local government of big cities
such as San Francisco and Los Angeles. At this time corporations held monopolies and these
corporations, due to their size and power, were able to control much of the economic policy of the
time. James Madison, a federalist and writer of Federalist #10, believed that humans were too
ignorant and/or too selfish to govern themselves. The Progressives worked to shift the power with
political reforms such as nonpartisanship, office block ballots, primary ... Show more content on

In fact, "Of more than 19,000 elected public officials in California, less than 300 are elected in
partisan races." From this one can conclude that, the Progressive Movement was a huge influence on
California government and politics. Madison would have been against this because he believed that
humans would choose a candidate that only helps themselves, instead of common wealth. Another
reform made during the Progressive Era was primary elections. Primary elections are elections held
to elect candidates to run for office. In a primary election a party nominee must receive more votes
than the other nominees in that party. These types of elections are also used to select presidential
candidates. Before primary elections political parties chose candidates during caucuses. Madison
would have preferred caucuses because politicians are aware of what goes on where as citizens may
not be as informed in politics. This reform gave voters more say in who they wanted in office and,
again, gave less power to the political corporations who could drive a certain politician's or party's
campaign and get who they wanted elected into office. The Progressives wanted more power in the
hands of the people. The Progressives gave voters the power of direct democracy through initiatives,
referendums and recalls. Initiatives are citizen made proposals and amendments that can be put on
ballots during elections; they are the most frequently used out of the

Essay on Tax Reform in The United States
The current tax policy in the United States is very confusing and it is very costly for our government
to administer it. It is in the best interest of our country and its citizens to revise or replace our
current tax policy. While most taxpayers agree that tax reform is necessary for our country the
problem they encounter is the difficulty they experience when trying to understand all the political
terms used when discussing tax reform. This paper is an attempt to help the taxpayers of our country
to better understand the political terminology and gain knowledge about some of the proposals that
have been explored. Like most taxpayers, many politicians also agree that tax reform is necessary in
the United States, but that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last option that Warren explained was rationalization of the relationships between two tax bases
such as income and social security taxes, state and federal taxes, and federal corporate and
individual income taxes. "Integration of the corporate and individual income taxes has come to
mean eliminating the double burden of the corporate and individual income taxes, where it exists,
and substituting a system in which investor and corporate taxes are interrelated in a manner that
eliminates or reduces the foregoing distortions. The goal is to produce a uniform levy on capital
income, whether earned through corporate enterprise or not" (Warren 9).
One popular method of tax reform that some of the experts in this field think is worth considering is
implementing a flat tax also known as a consumption tax. J. D. Foster says that "any tax with a
single tax rate could be considered a flat tax." An article from the website Tax Policy Center defines
consumption as being "income less savings" (Gale). The major difference between an income tax
and a consumption tax is the way savings are taxed. With an income tax all income is taxed when it
is earned and again when interest is earned on any savings. Critics of an income tax say that this is
double taxation and

Short Story Of Dystopia

  • 1. Short Story Of Dystopia John lives with his wife, patricia and a daughter named sia in a big, fancy mansion. John and patricia own the best coffee shop in the town, dystopia. Sia loves the pumpkin spice latte with strawberry whip cream. The coffee shop became popular when sia was born five years ago, 2116. The chocklit family do grocery shopping in macadame loft for their coffee shop. Everyone in 2121 in Dystopia pay with their face. There are security scanning machines with facial recognition system. Everyone pays with their face in the coffee shop. One day, a young man ordered a chocolate, whipped cappucino and almost walked out the door. John saw the man running away and hit the star screw laser to lock the exit doors. The man touched the door and got shocked and fell down. John caught him and tied him up to a chair. He asked him why he did not pay. The man started to cry and asked for forgiveness. He wanted a refreshing drink and said he could not afford it. Patricia got teeny mag to scan the man's face. John used the device to scan his face that he was supposed to pay with. All the details and record of the man came up. Brown eyes, brown hair, 5 feet and 11 inches tall, born and lives in Dystopia and unemployed, David Rafany. There was a gloomy and sympathetic impression on John's face. John decided without hesitation, offered David a job at the coffee shop until he is able to stand up on his feet. Patricia introduced all rules to David and said he will be supervised at all times. He was grateful and praised them. John finally untied him. John tried to scan the man's face so many times but did not work. The alarm went off and the alarm heat up. He dropped it and the device blew up. Smoke everywhere, customers ran out and the fire began to spread within the shop. Patricia pushed the red knob to call fire rescuers. Fire rescuers rushed in and destroyed all the face scan payment devices. "Oh no! These devices are out of control" Sia said. David apologized. John decided without hesitation and offered David a job at the coffee shop until he is able to stand up on his feet. After people, information is our greatest asset which is why it would be in the company's best interest to invest in its protection. When we take the defensive approach we tend to attempt thinking along the lines as an attacker. It's helpful to be familiar with several of the tools that are made available to them and the ways these devices are used. More often than not an attack is planned. These incidents happen in segments and there is a method to an attackers approach. Therefore, most attacks do not merely happen. The attacks are elaborately planned out in phases. We could then act to protect those areas so that they are not unwanted doors to our critical data. Once the vulnerability scans are active and in place, I suggest a strong stateful firewall that will detect infiltration. This firewall should be capable of stateful inspections. Network/Host Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are helpful in alerting of a breach. In addition, an unused ports should be closed and filter the excess. Firewalls can help with the ports as well as port scanners (EC Council, 2010, p. 3–18). These are recommended administration tools that will defend against network attacks. Scanning tools can aid the work on a network on either side. They are comparable guns, they can be used to harm or protect. Security scanners move through a list of known areas of weakness and explore each system (Tittle, 2003). There are also IP scanners, audits, and web server scanners available to add to the protective layers. Attackers' access to tools to assist in their attacks and the key is to be the best position to prepare for those attacks. Popular among the Black hats are port scanners similar to Hping2. • 22. An Overview of Modern Philosophies of Education Overview Philosophy means "love of wisdom." It is made up of two Greek words, philo, meaning love, and sophos, meaning wisdom. Philosophy helps teachers to reflect on key issues and concepts in education, usually through such questions as: What is being educated? What is the good life? What is knowledge? What is the nature of learning? And What is teaching? Philosophers think about the meaning of things and interpretation of that meaning. Even simple statements, such as "What should be learned? Or What is adolescence?" set up raging debates that can have major implications. For example, what happens if an adolescent commits a serious crime? One interpretation may hide another. If such a young person is treated as an adult criminal, what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plato also believed that the soul is fully formed prior to birth and is perfect and at one with the Universal Being. The birth process checks this perfection, so education requires bringing latent ideas (fully formed concepts) to consciousness. In idealism, the aim of education is to discover and develop each individual's abilities and full moral excellence in order to better serve society. The curricular emphasis is subject matter of mind: literature, history, philosophy, and religion. Teaching methods focus on handling ideas through lecture, discussion, and Socratic dialogue (a method of teaching that uses questioning to help students discover and clarify knowledge). Introspection, intuition, insight, and whole–part logic are used to bring to consciousness the forms or concepts which are latent in the mind. Federal Tax Policies For The United States Despite the revisions on the Amendment throughout the following decades, and on into the twentieth century, the in come tax today is as reasonably fair to the public as the taxations have ever been, and probably ever will be. The Primary concern here is that today, federal income tax accounts for somewhat half of the federal revenue. With tax reform, the government never sought a way out of debt for their homeland, it was, and always will be a way to claim money from the human resources it ultimately requires to participate in war, then takes the majority of that money and funds war. The US tax policies will always–incorporate enough revenue to stay at war, even if the well being of the US is not in direct threat of any entities either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Republican parties seem to favor lower tax rates with less movement of the rates of taxation across the tax bracket. The Democratic parties are leaning more towards raising taxes on those in higher tax brackets on the basis that the government should obtain more revenue from those who can afford it more easily. However, as the Amendment is written, maybe the 16th Amendment wouldn't be fare to those households with higher income being taxed at a heavier rate than those of lower income households. The 16th Amendment is written to contain such elements to ensure it being constitutional, however these same elements could do just the opposite. In regards to the abilities of the 16th Amendment, Erik Jenson shows that is possible, " A simple example makes the point: suppose states A and B have equal populations, but state A's citizens have double the income of those in state B. With apportionment, the total collected from the two states would have to be equal. On average, the citizens of state B would have to pay tax at double the rates applicable to citizens in state A". (Jenson, 109:799(2014)) This would be the part where we show thanks that the government doesn't weigh heavier taxes on those who of higher income homes because the pendulum swings both ways. The New Deal of the 1930's may also be constitutional; as well at it may also be apportioned. With the Presidents passed being concerned with the freedom and equality of all the inhabitants of ... Rationale of the Study This study was drawn to update the recurring sin tax law that was newly implemented by the President of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino by assessing its effect to the consumers of sin products and has given fruitful grounds and suggestions for future research in this field. In belief, the purpose of the imposition of excise tax on sin products is to raise revenues and discouraging the consumption of the tobacco products and alcoholic beverages. It is claimed that higher excise taxes on tobacco will make some smokers to quit, and reduce consumption of continuing smokers, and prevent others from starting (Sunley, 2009). Because the demand for cigarettes is relatively price inelastic, the expectation is that higher taxes will yield higher revenues in the near term while preventing smoking in the longer term. If a tax is imposed on a good, verbally express excise taxes on alcohol or tobacco, it may possibly have influenced the decision of how many to consume and make efficiency cost (Badenes–Plá & Jones, 2003). In contrast, according to McGee (2000), liquor and cigarettes are had insensitive to changes of price that many of the consumers of sin products continue to buy it regardless of the increase in its prices. Then, it becomes usual that there will be a protest on excise tax for the reason that this sin tax law will not cause a reduction to their demand in sin products. • 47. America 's Tax Policy Is Not Appropriate For The United... A very controversial topic in today 's society is America 's tax policy. Currently, there is three different solutions to the current tax system. One is lowering the rate for progressive tax, our current tax system, which is progressively higher tax rate with more income. The second is fair tax, which is where people are only taxed for buying goods, not their income. The most suitable solution, is where everyone is treated fairly and must pay the same percentage of tax; this is known as flat tax. Our current tax policy is not appropriate for the United States of America. The current tax system is named progressive tax. Progressive tax is established off the people who make more money pay more in taxes while the people who make less money pay less in taxes. This system does not fit in well with today 's society because the more compensated are charged much more than the less compensated, "the top 1% of taxpayers have consistently paid more in federal income taxes than the bottom 90% since 2003 and that share has increased almost every year since 1980" (Phillips). Having the top 1% of taxpayers pay more than the super majority of the country is extraordinarily unfair to the 1%. A main principle of the United States is equality, so the tax policy should be more equal. With flat tax enacted every person would be paying the identical percentage of tax. With this in mind, it is not exactly equal, but very close. On the flip side, it does give the lower income people a break while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Millions joined civic organizations and extended their roles from domestic duties to concerns about their communities and environments. These years, between 1890 and 1920, were a time of many social changes that later became known as the Progressive Era. In this time era, millions of Americans organized associations to come up with solutions to the many problems that society was facing, and many of these problems were staring American women right in the face. Some of the words people will say are: corruption, politics, and economics. Economics or money is usually the first that comes to people's mind. Why ? Because it's all around about us, and it's a heavily debatable topic. The US government was given the right to control money in different areas of the public economy. Some of those areas being in foreign commerce, tax regulations, and social security. However these amendments have made the US adopt the theory of laissez faire. The United States needs to extend more economic regulation. The first time the US government had implemented the idea that taxes would generate money was about 100 years ago. In the US about a century ago, taxes were very archaic. Americans would fill out a page, about a half a page or so and they'd be done. Today, it's like trying to find Waldo in crowd of millions of people. The article Simplifying Taxes Is the Fairest, Fastest Way to Grow Our Economy By Peter Rush stated: "to reform the tax system, Congress should look to the original tax code that was simple with few deductions and a flat, but progressive tax rate––as high as 6 percent! All income was equal––there was no distinction on how money was earned whether it came from wages, rent, dividend and capital gains. That change by itself would create a more uniform and less politically volatile discussion of taxation. Consumers want the best quality at the lowest price and the investors want to see a high profit, so to do that companies have to find the middle ground. Which means they have to find the best solution for everyone even if it means outsourcing jobs offshore because it more cost effective for the company. According to Jagdish N. Bhagwati, "employing workers at lower cost allows U.S. companies to be more efficient and productive, permitting them to create the same amount of goods with fewer resources. In turn, this lowers the price of the goods in the United States, strengthening U.S. companies and freeing workers for other tasks. The savings allows U.S. companies to stay afloat and expand in a highly competitive global market" (Otterman, 2004). Outsourcing is not always a bad, it is a change, and change is what pushes both our economy and our nation forward. Another good point that has been made is, the average global tax rate on multinational corporations is about 27 percent, compared to 39 percent in the United States (Wolverson, 2011). Taxes primary function is to pay for the government to provide our country with services such as national security, international relations, environment conservation, space exploration, agriculture stabilization, housing assistance, transportation infrastructure, education, unemployment assistance, health assistance, social security, veteran benefits, and administration of justice to name a few. As a society, there are a few questions that continually arise but are never decided upon. First, which services are considered merit goods, commodities that the public sector provides free or at a discounted price in order to encourage consumption (Britannica)? Second, how much of a merit good should be paid for by the government? Third, should the merit good be publicly or privately provided? Fourth, if there is a good which is not considered a merit good but has a large positive externality, should it be government subsidized? Lastly, should the wealthy contribute more taxes than the poor? I'm sure we can all agree that there are some goods that need to be publicly provided by the government in order to ensure that everyone has a minimum amount of benefit from the good, one example being national security. The Progressive Era The Progressive Era – Liberal or Conservative During the latter part of the nineteenth century, presumably around the 1890's, it became known as the Progressive Era, a time of change, reform, and adaptation. As Vernon L. Parrignton put it, it was a "democratic renaissance" (Vernon L. Parrington in The Progressive Movement: Liberal or Conservative). So what was Progressivism? Well, its main goals were to curb corporate power, to end business monopolies, and to wipe out political corruption. They also wanted to democratize electoral procedures, protect working people, and bridge the gap between social classes. They called for reforms such as the referendum, initiative, and the recall. They wanted the Americanization of the immigrant and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear here that he supported that the Progressive Movement was liberal. The term conservative is used to describe someone or something that favors traditional views and values, and tends to oppose change (Dictionary.com: Conservative). Unlike the historians like Hicks and Parrington, others, such as John Chamberlain and Richard Hofstadter believed that the Progressive Movement was that of a conservative one. Instead of seeing progressivism as a movement to correct American society, John Chamberlain saw it as a complete and abysmal failure, nothing but a bunch of people who "were motivated by an escapist desire to return to a golden past where honesty and virtue had dominated over egoism and evil" (The Progressive Movement: Liberal or Conservative). If the Progressive Movement is looked at as a conservative movement, one can concur that it was just a cover up for a moral crusade. During the latter part of the nineteenth century people of high status such as lawyers, professors, and clergymen were being ousted out of power. In response, these people went on a moral crusade to restore individualistic values based on the idea that only men of character should rule. • 80. The Death Of The Frontier And Progressive Era Essay Ragtime is full with a myriad number of characters, from Harry Houdini to Booker T Washington, but the pivotal characters in my eyes were Mother and Father. There's something to be said when the main characters of a novel don't even have names, unlike the many other minor characters, who were major players in history. What makes them stand out even more is the fact that Mother and Father weren't the only fictional characters, however, they as long as all of the members of their family, including Little Girl who would join Mother's family at the end of the tale, were the only ones who were not named. That's because it's an obvious way for Doctorow to use them as a symbol for the typical middle–class American family during the Progressive Era. However, this is not the only role they had. In addition, the death of the Frontier and the birth of the Progressive Era is shown in Ragtime through the developing relationship between Father and Mother who represent the Frontier and Progressive Era respectively. The relationship they share is a unique one and vital to the image Doctorow is trying to depict, the change occurring in time. There's a reason Father and Mother, a married couple, were used in this way rather than another relationship, and that is because an era does not erratically die, but rather the merging of new and old ideas forms a marriage between the two eras before one is completed. Just like two time periods, Father and Mother change positions. While Father grows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Freedom Writers Film Techniques The film "Freedom Writers" by Richard LaGravenese has been successful in terms of expressing the emotions of students through their diaries but also engaging the audience emotions through the characters' gang experiences. The character of Mrs Gruwell(Mrs G) is a teacher of low performing students trying to achieve their goals against all odds. Techniques the director used to show this include flashbacks, non–diegetic sound, spot light and pan shots which are all important in sending the message to the audience that family problems and violence have a big impact on the students lives. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is achieved through the use of pan shots, combined with non–diegetic sounds. In the scene where Brandy was reading her diary, a pan shot was used to show that she was living in a poor neighbourhood and the negative conditions associated with it. When her dad aggressively pulled her mum through the room and out of the house she described the violence the family experience at the hands of her dad. A mid shot was used to express the anger in the dad's face but also the tears and screaming in her mum's face. This focuses the audience's attention on the domestic violence that Brandy experiences. The director portrays this through Brandy's voice over dialogue, " I watched my mother being half beaten to death....." This is a powerful use of non diegetic sound combined with a pan shot. This allows the audience to see that the whole family was living in a small house with one bedroom. The reason why the director combines the panning effect with sound is to have a stronger effect and draw stronger emotions from the audience. The use of voiceover and non diegetic sounds create a stronger and more realistic mood for the audience. The use of voiceover during the scene of her mum getting violently pulled and pushed is mixed with panning shots to also show the reaction of the rest of the family as they witnessed the violence. Through the use of these techniques the director encourages audience to think about and emotionally understand what a lot of young people in abusive families go through and the struggles which make them who they are ... The Pros And Cons Of Electronic Voting According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a ballot is defined as, "a sheet of paper used to cast a secret vote" or "the action or system of secret voting". Why talk about what a ballot is though? The answer is quite simple actually. There is a question going around Eaton County right now; a question on almost every voter's mind. Should Eaton County switch to electronic voting or stick with paper ballots? In order to understand what this question is asking, we should look at what a ballot is, ergo the reason of the definition of a ballot. Now there are only two decisions to the question of electronic voting or sticking with paper ballots. In all honesty, Eaton County should not change to an electronic–based ballot voting system and instead stay with the paper ballots. One of the reasons why Eaton County should stick with paper voting is because of the complications that would arise if the county was to switch to electronic voting. There would be the hassle of getting the electronic voting machines, of setting them up, the maintenance that would have to be done with them. It would end up costing the county more money than the paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the many upsides to electronic voting is the fact that the voting process speeds up. Ballot tampering is also reduced as a problem in voting fraud because of electronic voting (Espinoza and Lin, 2007). Despite these nicknames, the flat tax is a proposal that taxes are collected on different goods and services. The basic premise is that everyone pays a certain percentage of tax on the things that they buy. This percentage varies depending on who is making the particular proposal. This idea of a tax on goods rather than on income has different arguments for and against it. The first major argument of the flat tax is that it everyone pays the same percentage. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second major argument in regards to the flat tax is that it creates a simple tax rate that is easily calculable by the average individual. While there is no argument about the complexity of the tax code, there are still arguments pertaining to making taxes simple. One side is concerned about the economic effects that simplification of the code will have on business operations. Since many of the tax exemptions center around corporate operations, there are potentially some business that might see a dramatic increase in taxes while other will see a dramatic drop in rates. Those businesses that operate solely in selling consumer goods such as cars will see a much higher tax bill than those that operate more on offering services. On the other side of this, the tax code will be simple enough that anyone can calculate it. This means that people can estimate how much they are going to spend on taxes. The argument is that this will boost the economy because people are able to plan and spend their money better. With better planning, people may invest more and save more. Better money management also leads to better credit scores and will help to loosen up the credit market. However, that won 't always be the case since there are many different factors that play into how a consumer spends their money. The third major argument is that it will shrink Government. ... However, these cheaper brands did provide stiff competition for the dominant brands, but in this case was not necessarily a good thing. While the cheaper products did save those companies money, it hurt them in the public interest in the long run. In response to all this many citizens decided that they too would make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People saw this and realized that there was a need for change, the people who saw the need for change and went after it are known as progressives for they wanted to progress their nation by addressing the problems that it was faced with. Though the people of the progressive and reform era are labeled as progressives, the fact that they share a name does not mean that all their ideals were the same as well. Progressives were divided mainly into two camps and from those into even smaller ones. There were the progressives who wanted to go back to the good old days, those who wanted to preserve the way of life that was slipping through their fingers, and then there were those who wanted to address the changes by making changes. Some progressives felt that it was necessary to preserve the way of life that was fast disappearing in America. On the other hand some progressives felt that the government needed to be run differently because of all of the changes in public and private sector. Either way, change was part of the equation. The progressive era was composed of many people, each possessing one, two, or more of the many ideals that helped define the progressive era. It can be said however, that most progressive reformers were upper middle to upper class people for whereas the poor certainly saw the problems and recognized the need to solve them, there were not in a position where they could. Essay about Fair Tax: Avoidance of Taxes PA 8720 – "Fair Tax" Policy Analysis John Maynard Keynes stated that "the avoidance of taxes is the only intellectual pursuit that carries any reward," (Waters, 2011). In Missouri, while seeking to avoid an income tax, advocates for the "Fair Tax" have seemingly presented a proposal that is the antithesis of the pursuit Keynes deems worthy. They are proposing a constitutional amendment that would impose a sales tax that no Missourian could avoid. The "Fair Tax" would cost everyone, no matter their income level and even have its greatest impact on the most vulnerable among us. Even as a tax of this type would expand the tax base, the repercussions to the taxpayers, the state budget, and the state economy would present hurdles too high to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initiative petition however, caps the state sales tax at seven percent ("Constitutional amendment to," 2012); leaving no mechanism for recovering such a substantial loss in revenue. James Moody, a former budget director, called the proposal "fiscally untenable," stating that it would "either bankrupt the state, or in the alternative, bankrupt the poor and working lower and middle income classes." (Moody, 2011). This dilemma is furthered when exemptions are taken into account. Just as Irene Rubin noted in The Politics of Public Budgeting (2010), "as the burden on a group increases, the demand for exceptions for that group is likely to increase." Moody applies this notion to the "Fair Tax" when stating that "the simple math is that exemptions from taxation lower the taxable base," and that "the more tax exemptions assumed, the lower the tax base, and the higher the tax rate has to be," (2011). In a Columbia Daily Tribune editorial, Henry Waters stated "the new sales tax would instantly become riddled with exemptions," and that "for every exemption, the rate must go up," (2011). Under the proposal, cities and counties would have the ability to levy an additional sales tax on top of the tax imposed by the state, but the total is not to exceed ten percent. If current local rates stood, those shopping in St. Louis city would need to pay up to 11.275 percent on most purchases, with those in St. Louis County paying up to ... • 154. The Progressive Era Was A Political Movement The Progressive Era was a political movement aimed towards eliminating the influence and corruption of corporations in politics, and making the California government more of a democracy. This took place at the beginning of the 20th century and started in the local government of big cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles. At this time corporations held monopolies and these corporations, due to their size and power, were able to control much of the economic policy of the time. James Madison, a federalist and writer of Federalist #10, believed that humans were too ignorant and/or too selfish to govern themselves. The Progressives worked to shift the power with political reforms such as nonpartisanship, office block ballots, primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, "Of more than 19,000 elected public officials in California, less than 300 are elected in partisan races." From this one can conclude that, the Progressive Movement was a huge influence on California government and politics. Madison would have been against this because he believed that humans would choose a candidate that only helps themselves, instead of common wealth. Another reform made during the Progressive Era was primary elections. Primary elections are elections held to elect candidates to run for office. In a primary election a party nominee must receive more votes than the other nominees in that party. These types of elections are also used to select presidential candidates. Before primary elections political parties chose candidates during caucuses. Madison would have preferred caucuses because politicians are aware of what goes on where as citizens may not be as informed in politics. This reform gave voters more say in who they wanted in office and, again, gave less power to the political corporations who could drive a certain politician's or party's campaign and get who they wanted elected into office. The Progressives wanted more power in the hands of the people. The Progressives gave voters the power of direct democracy through initiatives, referendums and recalls. Initiatives are citizen made proposals and amendments that can be put on ballots during elections; they are the most frequently used out of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is in the best interest of our country and its citizens to revise or replace our current tax policy. While most taxpayers agree that tax reform is necessary for our country the problem they encounter is the difficulty they experience when trying to understand all the political terms used when discussing tax reform. This paper is an attempt to help the taxpayers of our country to better understand the political terminology and gain knowledge about some of the proposals that have been explored. Like most taxpayers, many politicians also agree that tax reform is necessary in the United States, but that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The last option that Warren explained was rationalization of the relationships between two tax bases such as income and social security taxes, state and federal taxes, and federal corporate and individual income taxes. "Integration of the corporate and individual income taxes has come to mean eliminating the double burden of the corporate and individual income taxes, where it exists, and substituting a system in which investor and corporate taxes are interrelated in a manner that eliminates or reduces the foregoing distortions. The goal is to produce a uniform levy on capital income, whether earned through corporate enterprise or not" (Warren 9). One popular method of tax reform that some of the experts in this field think is worth considering is implementing a flat tax also known as a consumption tax. J. D. Foster says that "any tax with a single tax rate could be considered a flat tax." An article from the website Tax Policy Center defines consumption as being "income less savings" (Gale). The major difference between an income tax and a consumption tax is the way savings are taxed. With an income tax all income is taxed when it is earned and again when interest is earned on any savings. Critics of an income tax say that this is double taxation and ...
