2. The genre of magazines that I have looked at tend to have a dark coloured background and then the
actual masthead is a very vibrant colour such as orange, yellow, blue or red. this allows the audience
to connect with the magazine as its being controlled for and its more subtle. The masthead is always
positioned in the top middle of the page. This defines in the audiences mind who produces the
magazine and can allow for easy recognition of each edition. This simply follows the hegemonic norm.
another thing is that the spacing of letters between each other are very equal. If you compare regional
magazines that I have researched compared to ones aimed at younger audiences it is very different.
For example the font used. The fonts used for the regional magazines I have looked at are much
bolder so they can grab the readers attention

3. Colour Scheme
The codes and conventions of colours for regional magazines cant be gender defined. This implies that white is a common
colour used for text. This allows the magazine to have an audience mixed with both genders. This can make the magazine
more popular as its aimed at females and males. In all magazines, one bright colour is used which draws the attention of the
potential audience and is pleasing to the eye.
4. Images
In most regional magazines I have researched, a long shot for the front cover image is being displayed. Its used
to establish the scene of the area with connotations given of relaxation and peace. This is usually conveyed by
bright images, calm water and sunny days.
On the odd occasion, two images are used on the front page. The main image and then a smaller image placed
in the corner of the page. The image could vary of being an image of a person or just them featuring their own
magazine on their own magazine.
5. Text
On the majority of the magazines I have researched, the text is aligned on the side of the front page. this allows you to
view the background image easily. One thing that I have noticed is the more important the text is, the more bolder it is.
This means that it will grab the readers attention. This reinforces the cognitive needs. The language used is very formal.
No slang is used at all as it would turn the reader away.
Another thing that is frequently used throughout the magazine is equal spacing. Its used in the main text and the title.
This makes the work very organized which would appeal to my target audience. The san serif font also makes the page
look very sophisticated which suits to the target audience.
6. Layout
The text in terms of layout in regional magazine are usually on one side of the page. Its very rare for there to be text across
the middle of the page. The sell line is typically on the left of the page taking up any space which is left after the bulk text.
The barcode is always placed in the bottom right hand corner. Doing this does not draw attention away from the magazine
but it gives a sense of establishment. Finally a typical convention in regional magazine is that the add on’s are common on
most magazines.
