OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson pupils will be able to:
Affective: (i) exhibit signs of enjoyment and pleasure
Psychomotor: (ii) play the rhythm of songs on non-melodic percussion instruments
Cognitive: (iii) identify rhythms of musical pieces by matching song titles to rhythms
heard
(iv) state the meaning of rhythm
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: - Pupils have listened to and clapped rhythms. They have
also played rhythm games.
- Pupils can identify long and short.
RESOURCES: body percussion, non-melodic percussion instruments (traditional and
pupil-made).
SET INDUCTION: The teacher engages the class in a ‘Rhythm Round’ game based on
the theme football.
BODY OF LESSON:

and perform rhythmic
patterns in the song

CLOSURE: Students sing ‘Bump Dity Bump’ and play its rhythm using
body percussion and non-melodic percussion instruments.
EVALUATION: i Match song titles to rhythms heard
ii.Orally explain the meaning of rhythm
FOLLOW-UP LESSON: Rhythm - the concept of BEAT.

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS
CLASS: Std. 1
TOPIC: Rhythm LESSON: Exploration of Rhythm
SET INDUCTION:
Activity of stomping to rhythms. First eight count and movement in a circle. Then saying
the days of the week and months of the year.
LESSON ACTIVITIES:
Creating and performing rhythms:
- each pupil performs the rhythm of his/her name.
- sing ‘I’ve Got the Rhythm’
- repeat substituting animal sounds and actions.
CLOSURE:
Sitting in circle, perform rhythm of song using body parts.
EVALUATION:
Play rhythm of familiar nursery rhymes and songs.

  • 2. 1 VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS LESSON PLAN CURRICULUM AREA: Visual and Performing Arts SUBJECT: Music TOPIC: Rhythm LESSON: concept of rhythm CLASS: Std. 3 AGE RANGE: 9 – 10 yrs. DURATION OF LESSON: 40 - 40 min NO. OF PUPILS: ------- DATE: -------- OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson pupils will be able to: Affective: (i) exhibit signs of enjoyment and pleasure Psychomotor: (ii) play the rhythm of songs on non-melodic percussion instruments Cognitive: (iii) identify rhythms of musical pieces by matching song titles to rhythms heard (iv) state the meaning of rhythm PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: - Pupils have listened to and clapped rhythms. They have also played rhythm games. - Pupils can identify long and short. RESOURCES: body percussion, non-melodic percussion instruments (traditional and pupil-made). SET INDUCTION: The teacher engages the class in a ‘Rhythm Round’ game based on the theme football. BODY OF LESSON: SECTION TEACHER ACTIVITY PUPIL ACTIVITY 1. Defining the concept of duration in music - Reviews words from previous activity and describe as long or short. - say words and describe length - invites pupils to voice long and short sounds - create and voice sounds - sings short phrase of ‘Oklahoma’ - listen and identify short and long syllables -explains concept of duration in music - listen and respond

Establishing the concept of rhythm - Performs short rhythmic phrases and invites pupils to create their own - individuals create and others imitate - guides group activity - in groups play game of ‘add-on rhythm’ (memory game) - teaches song ‘Bump Dity Bump’ - observe and respond - guides pupils to identify and perform rhythmic patterns in the song - participate in identifying rhythmic patterns CLOSURE: Students sing ‘Bump Dity Bump’ and play its rhythm using body percussion and non-melodic percussion instruments. EVALUATION: i Match song titles to rhythms heard ii.Orally explain the meaning of rhythm FOLLOW-UP LESSON: Rhythm - the concept of BEAT.
  • 4. 3 NOTES FOR A LESSON VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS CLASS: Std. 1 TOPIC: Rhythm LESSON: Exploration of Rhythm SET INDUCTION: Activity of stomping to rhythms. First eight count and movement in a circle. Then saying the days of the week and months of the year. LESSON ACTIVITIES: Creating and performing rhythms: - each pupil performs the rhythm of his/her name. - sing ‘I’ve Got the Rhythm’ - repeat substituting animal sounds and actions. CLOSURE: Sitting in circle, perform rhythm of song using body parts. EVALUATION: Play rhythm of familiar nursery rhymes and songs.
