3. These are the collection of images that I have used for my first draft; they are all indoor shots
so in order to make mine stand out from the rest I plan to take more photos in a variety of
different locations. I tried to incorporate varying looks and concepts and experimented with
different backgrounds as well as poses. I think my photos will attract my target audience
because the model looks mischievous and captivating. As I have used a female, I ensured to
cover different kinds of concepts so that my target audience are not just confined to one
gender. Having my model appear girly and fairy like will attract the younger female audience as
they have the tendency to go through a phase where they enjoy dressing up whereas the
pictures where my model is wearing dark coloured clothing and accessories would attract both
females and males as they like the ‘bad girl’ image. Using stereotypes in this manner can be
advantageous as it allows me to create something that would be liked by the vast majority of
my target audience. I can work well knowing what kind of approaches everyone likes and
ensure I have included elements from this into my final product. Gel lights were used as it was
something new that I hadn’t worked with before; by using them I thought not only was I able to
get a nice collection of images but expand my skills and techniques. The gel lights in this
instance were of the colours pink and blue; both stereotypically colours that represent one
specific gender, however I picked the two together because it creates a soft light colour that
captures the models overall pose well. In all three gel light pictures I have chosen, my model
seems like she is in thought and portrays her as a very open-minded person. Giving personality
to a picture is vital as otherwise the target audience will not be able to connect with the
magazine nor get an understanding as what the model is truly like. The pictures capture my
model looking away from the camera and to the side; this connotes that the model is a shy and
sweet yet again reinforcing the femininity appearance. There is one image I have chosen to
keep in black and white as I felt the background was the wrong choice and adding any other
effects would not work. I had to therefore compromise and go with the black and white effect,
which despite not being what I initially was going for still worked well. It makes the model
seem fierce and also grabs more attention to her face. For the picture where my model is
holding light bulbs, I encountered some difficulty getting them to show up properly when
taking the pictures, and once I managed to take them, I realised that the background was too
washed out and made the whole image look dull and gloomy. Using photo-shop I tried using
different techniques to fix the washed out background and managed to edit it in a way that
worked.
