2. What do you like about the artistic style of this portrait?
I like the way this portrait has been taken within a frame, this technique automatically draws your eyes to
the center of the frame which leads you to the young boy in the middle. In the background inside the
frame you can see some bars which are behind the boy, giving an impression of the boy being trapped
or locked somewhere.
What does this photograph tell you about this person?
This photograph tells me that this little boy is sad, I think this because of the innocent look on his face and
the way he is resting his head on his arm. Also because the photo is taken in black and white it gives a
sense of depression within the portrait as there is no colour around the little boy which is unusual as a
young child of this age would normally be surrounded by bright and vibrant colours.
What qualities in this photograph could you use when you take your own portraits?
I think that the qualities I would take from this photograph would be the idea of using a frame, I like this
as your eyes are automatically drawn to where the photographer wants them to go.

3. What do you like about the artistic style of this portrait?
In this photograph I like how there is a wide depth of field. I like how the whole space around the 2
people is quite light and then it contrasts with the peoples clothes as they are more dark with black
and grey tones. That is why it is a good choice to have done the photo in black and white. Also, I
find it interesting how there is not just one person in the portrait.
What does this photograph tell you about the person?
The photograph tells me that these two people could be quite close and makes you think whether
they are in a relationship or just friends, the boy in this photo is holding a guitar giving a sense or
calmness as they slowly walk off.
What qualities in this photograph could you use when you take your own portraits?
The qualities I could take from this portrait and use in my own work would be the black and white
theme and how much of a contrast there is between the dark and light tones. Also, I would like to try
and take the idea of having multiple people in the shot.

4. What do you like about the artistic style of this portrait?
In this portrait I like the fact the it isn’t just an ordinary photo in a studio or outside, it is underwater with the sun
beams shining through onto the woman floating and looking up out of the water, it is interesting how you can
see her reflection above her but it is distorted by the ripples in the water. The colour of her dress stands out
well on the colour of the rocky floor and the darkness around her.
What does this photograph tell you about this person?
This photograph gives an impression the this woman had got ready, done her makeup, got dressed up and
now its all ruined and it seems as though she is lost and doesn’t know who she is, I think this because of her
distorted reflection so maybe she is depressed or lonely as the look on her face is quite plain and you can not
see any expression in her eyes as they are closed.
What qualities in this photograph could you use when you take your own portraits?
The qualities I might take from this photo would be o use the idea of the colour on darkness as I think this
works really well at drawing your attention to where you want the viewer to look.
