water quality." (Keller) A case history of river pollution is the Cuyahoga River located in
Northeastern Ohio. The river is 100 miles long flowing south to Cuyahoga Falls where it then turns
north until it empties into Lake Erie. Cleveland and Akron are two major cities located along the
river. The Cuyahoga is known as an infant glacial river, this is because it is one of the youngest river

In 1952 a fire caused a million dollars' worth of damage to river boats and riverfront businesses. On
June 22, 1969 another river fire engulfed the river, this time the media coverage captured the
attention of the nation. Time Magazine described the Cuyahoga as the river that "oozes rather that

more young adults have become victims of heroin overdoses in the past 10 years, why? In recent
new accounts, this crisis has been attributed to bad batches of this illegal drug coming from various
sources. In Ohio the Heroin epidemic has put law enforcement and law makers on the alter to
combat this dilemma, by working with the community and other entity to safe guard the well being

Abstract
This paper explores the discriminatory practices of employers. In this paper I explain what
employment discrimination means and how a business can violate an employee' rights. Some of
those rights that I explore are age discrimination, race and color discrimination, and discrimination
based on sex, one's gender. As I explain the two theories of disparate treatment and disparate impact,
I support those with several case laws for further understanding of those laws. Knowing that these
laws heavily affect business decisions, I propose a solution that many businesses are using and that
some may need to start using. The proposed solutions seek to explain why it can alleviate the
distrust and fear of the laws for businesses.

The laws that exist today regarding equal employment are used to protect individuals from
discriminatory acts from their employers or co–workers on the job. The two theories that mostly
affect business decisions are the disparate treatment and disparate impact. These two theories allows
individuals to file claims against employers for discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex,

Right Under My Nose In the book, Hidden America by Jeanne Marie Laskas, I noticed many themes
throughout. Perhaps the most important theme that occurred to me was the fact that many of these
stories were happening right here in my home state. Throughout three different chapters I truly came
to the realization that many situations to do with my life, are possible purely because of the workers
in the stories; not only around the world but in places I frequent. The three chapters I chose were:
"Underworld", "G–L–O–R–Y", and "Sputter". All of these stories were based in Ohio and I think
that has a lot to say about how oblivious we are as a community to the people that work to make our
lives how they are today. My grandparents have owned a lake cottage in Piedmont, Ohio since
before I was born. Ever since I was baby I have traveled the one and a half hour drive to our cottage.
As I grew older, I took in the scenery and the little towns along the way. One sleepy little farm town
in particular we drive through, seventeen minutes away from the lake, is called Cadiz; also known
as the town that hosts the Hopedale Mining Coal Company. Yet, I never even knew until eighteen
years later that a coal mining operation is stationed there.

1. INTRODUCTION
Does having access to direct international flights impact the attraction of foreign direct investment
(FDI) and the strength of a local and regional economy? This paper attempts to answer this question
through a two–phased research project: 1) a literature review, and 2) a case study of a possible direct
international flight from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport located in Northeast Ohio to
Frankfurt, Germany. The choice of international flight was based on the existence of German
companies in Northeast Ohio, particularly in the automotive industry, the region's potential to attract
German companies, and the available connections between Frankfurt and other destinations in the
world.
The relationship between FDI and air connectivity should not be considered static. This relationship
depends on the time period in question. The focus of this paper is the recent phase of globalization
following the invention of the internet, creation of the European Union single market, and the North
