8. Soundtrack
• Clip 1

build tension.
• Clip 2
Romantic, tension and
possible fairytale narrative
9. Shining
The techniques that have been used such as the happy, good time music and friendly
all American voice over give the trailer a much happier feel. The trailer is edited so
that instead of the image cutting out into a black screen it is cut into a white screen
that fades out like a light giving the trailer a much brighter, romantic and light hearted
look. The way the trailer is edited makes it seem like the little boy is looking for a dad
and that the main character is lonely and nice and just the perfect man to be a great
dad. For example they show the little boy playing and then they show the older man
throwing a ball around. They also show the older man hitting things off the top of
some shelves to show that there will be the typical rough patch in the middle of the
movie but in the end everyone will be happy.
10. Scary Mary
Techniques such as only using dark clips and fading to black after most clips helps to
make the trailer seem creepy. Also as the trailer goes on the clips changing picks up
speed with the intenseness of the music to build a horror style tension. The only clips
shown are ones of the children being scared and magic happening and it refers back to
a close up of Mary Poppins and then back to children being scared and magic to make
it look like Mary Poppins is the evil one.

18. Clip Analysis
• All their clothing suggests different roles of the
characters that go against stereotypes e.g. The woman
is in army combat gear and a man is in a pink t-shirt
and nice hat. This also relates to their roles as they take
on roles which would normally be of the opposite
gender. The clip also shows a posh woman who is
dominant and bossy and also a farmer who is angry,
these are classic stereotypes. The music goes from
tense to fast paced to carry the action. The
camerawork has lots of fast edits and tracking to follow
the action. The colours are mainly natural and quite
dark at times. The props, such as the guns and the
spade show the characters ability to fight.
