LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2016 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the Adams State Indoor
Bubble and Fieldhouse in Alamosa, Colo. on February 20-21.
The meet was scheduled to take place at the Texas Tech Athletic Training Center in Lubbock, Texas, but on
December 31 the roof of the ATC deflated due to Winter Storm Goliath canceling all events.
The Adams State facility has a 200-meter track with six lanes on the oval and eight sprint lanes. The entire
facility is a Beynon surface. The Indoor Bubble hosts several regular season meets and has been home to the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships in previous years.

MEN’S TRACK
Javier Lopez, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, JR, Cóodoba, Spain, Dionisio Ortiz
Lopez set another qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday at the Pittsburg State Invitational at the
Robert W. Plaster Center. Lopez’s 7.79 in the 60m hurdles preliminaries broke the facility record with the
second best mark in school history, breaking Justice Burks’ previous record of 8.11 on Dec. 5, 2015. It is the
second consecutive automatic qualifying time for the Spaniard, and the mark is the fastest in NCAA Division II
this season.
MEN’S FIELD
Jordan Yamoah, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SR, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Arlington
Yamoah qualified for nationals in the pole vault on Friday at the Pittsburg State Invitational at the Robert W.
Plaster Center. Yamoah’s vault of 16-11.5 (5.17m) tied for first (second overall) and gave the former national
champion an automatic qualifier as the senior registered the fifth best mark in school history. He leads the LSC
and ranks second in NCAA Division II.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Kaina Martinez, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SR, Seine Bight, Stann Creek, Belize, Independena
Martinez shattered Texas A&M-Kingsville’s indoor track mark in the 200-meter dash on Friday at the Pittsburg
State Invitational at the Robert W. Plaster Center. Martinez’s 24.36 in the 200m dash was an NCAA Division II
provisional mark and the best in Javelina history. Martinez also placed third in the 400m dash with a time of
56.01, a provisional qualifying time and the eighth best mark in school history. Both marks are the best in the
LSC this year, and her efforts rank fourth and 11th in the NCAA, respectively.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Kami Norton, Angelo State University, SO, Albany, Texas, Albany HS
Norton recorded three NCAA Division II provisional-qualifying marks at the Pittsburg State Invitational including
the No. 5 long jump in the Division II. The sophomore recorded a jump of 19-2.75 (5.86m) for second place in
the event. It is the No. 5 jump in Division II currently. Norton also cleared 5-5.75 (1.67m) in the high jump and
sits at No. 23 nationally and ran 8.73 in the 60-meter hurdles, a personal best time.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Luis Romero, Texas A&M University-Commerce, looked like a man among boys at the Pittsburg State
Invitational as he ran an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time in the 800-meter run. Romero’s time of 1:51.51 ranks
second in the Lone Star Conference, 10th in Division II, and is a new school record. Romero also anchored the
Distance Medley Relay, crossing the line at 10:08.69. This time ranks first in the LSC, 15th in Division II, a new
A&M-Commerce school record, and was one second shy of the NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark. His fellow
relay members consists of Andrew Cobos, Erick Quiroz, and Steeven Martinez.
Chase Rathke, Tarleton State University, performance in winning the mile run highlighted Tarleton’s day
at the track. Rathke ran the mile in 4:05.08 and broke his own school record (4:08.27 in 2015) and claimed a
provisional mark in the process. Rathke’s time is the third-fastest recorded in NCAA Division II this season and
the fastest in the LSC. Rathke also finished third in the 800m run in a time of 1:52.41 to earn a provisional mark.
Julian Clark-Coronado, Eastern New Mexico University, posted his second provisional qualification in the
60-meter dash, with a time of 6.90 at the Pittsburg State Invitational. He currently ranks fourth in the LSC in the
event.
Jamie Taylor-Caldwell, West Texas A&M University, ran away from the field in the mile at the Pittsburg State
Invitational to pick up the Buffs lone victory of the meet. His time of 4:12.95 is the eighth-fastest time in school
history.
Devontae Steele, Texas A&M University-Commerce, has the leading long jump in the LSC of 22-11.75 (7.00m)
and the No. 2 triple jump mark in Division II of 50-5.5 (15.38m). That mark was the winning jump at the
Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas and qualifies as another conference leading jump for Steele.

Zach Weatherly, West Texas A&M University,
finished 12th in the shot put at the Pittsburg State
Invitational. His throw of 51-6.25 is the fifth best
mark in the conference this season.
Kamryn McKee, Texas A&M University-Commerce,
excelled in the quarter race this past week at the
Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas.
McKee ran 56.94 seconds in the 400-meter dash,
which was an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time
ranking second in the Lone Star Conference, and 23rd
in the NCAA Division II.
Aly Coughlin, Tarleton State University, the reining
LSC Female Runner of the Year for cross country,
had a smooth transition to the track by winning the
5000m run at the Houston Invitational and claiming
a provisional qualifying mark by breaking her own
indoor school record with a time of 17:17.70.
Coughlin finished in third in the 3000m run with
a time of 9:57.41. Coughlin broke her own school
record of 10:05.61 and claimed her second provision
mark of the meet. Both of Coughlin’s times are tops
in the league this season.
Klaudia Szych, Eastern New Mexico University,
placed third in the women’s 800-meter run at last
week’s Pittsburg State Invitational to earn provisional
qualification to the NCAA Championships. Her time
of 2:14.29 leads the Lone Star Conference and ranks
14th in the country.
Jasmine Sillemon, Angelo State University, clocked
two NCAA Division II provisional-qualifying marks in
the 60-meters and the 200-meters at the Pittsburg
State Invitational. The junior ran 7.71 in the 60-meters
to place No. 15. She turned around to cross the line
in a 25.03 in the 200-meters for 11th overall. It is the
first provisional marks for her career at Angelo State.
Victoria Rausch, West Texas A&M University,
continued the impressive start to her freshman
campaign with a seventh place finish in the 60 meter
hurdles at the Pittsburg State Invitational. Her time of
8.68 in the final broke her own freshman record and
is the sixth-fastest time in school history.
Alta Abbott, Texas A&M University-Commerce,
jumped 5-7 (1.70m) in the high jump at the Pittsburg
State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas. This jump is
a NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark, and is tied for
the leading mark in the Lone Star Conference. The
clearance also serves as the No. 9 mark in NCAA
Division II competition and is a new A&M-Commerce
program record.
LaGa’e Brigance, Texas A&M University-Kingsville,
in the women’s high jump posted a mark of 5-5.75
(1.67m), a DII provisional mark and the fifth best in
Texas A&M-Kingsville history.
Malika Ouedraogo, West Texas A&M University,
opened her indoor campaign with a fourth place
finish in the triple jump at the Pittsburg State
Invitational. Her jump of 39-5.75 (12.03m) was a
provisional qualifying mark and currently ranks her
sixth in the nation.

Eastern New Mexico
The Eastern New Mexico University indoor track
& field team continued its strong start to the 2016
season and saw a number of athletes earn provisional
qualification at the Pittsburg State Invitational, late
Friday night. The women’s distance medley relay
team finished in first place to qualify, while Julian
Clark-Coronado posted a qualifying time in the
men’s 60-meter dash. The quartet of Amber Saiz,
Kiana Covington, Klaudia Szych, and Sabrina Huelga
finished the distance medley with a time of 12:08.8,
more than eight seconds faster than the runner-up
team from Murray State. That quartet also produced
two individual provisional qualifiers, with Huelga and
Szych turning in big performances. Huelga was the
runner up in the one-mile run with a time of 4:56.78,
while Szych took third in the 800-meter run with a
time of 2:14.29. Clark-Coronado had another strong
showing in the 60m, and crossed the finish line at
6.90 to take 20th place. Azalia Rodriguez had a 21st-
place finish in the women’s 800-meter run at 2:20.65,
while Saiz was fifth in the one-mile at 5:07.21. Laura
Grube was 34th in the weight throw with a toss of 42-
6.2. The Eastern New Mexico University indoor track
& field team will return to action next weekend at the
University of New Mexico.
Midwestern State
Tarleton State
Tarleton track and field wrapped up its opening meet
at the Houston Invitational by claiming eight new
school records. DeAijha Hicks-Boyce (60m), Ariel
Ballard (200m), Haley Dennard (800m), Aly Coughlin
(3000m, 5000m), the 4x400m relay consisting of
Ariel Ballard, DeAijha Hicks-Boyce, Leslie Zupanic,
and Jamine Owens, Chase Rathke (mile), Dylan
Willet (3000m), and Peyton Heinig (5000m) all
broke Tarleton indoor records. Rathke won the mile,
Coughlin won the 5000m and the women’s 4x400m
relay all took home first-place honors. Tarleton will
return to the University of Houston to compete in the
Howie Ryan Invitational on Feb. 12.

Texas A&M-Kingsville
Texas A&M University-Kingsville men’s and women’s
indoor track and field received some good news
Tuesday as the men’s program moved up from
No. 15 to No. 9 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and
Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Poll
and the women cracked the top 25 at No. 22. The
Javelinas are coming off setting two NCAA automatic
qualifiers and two school records at the Pittsburg
State Invitational last week. Javier Lopez set another
qualifying time in the 60 meter hurdles, Jordan
Yamoah qualified for nationals in the pole vault and
Kaina Martinez and Michal Idziak shattered Texas
A&M University-Kingsville’s indoor track and field
marks in the 200 meter dash and 800 meter run on
Friday at the Pittsburg State University Invitational at
the Robert W. Plaster Center.
West Texas A&M
The Buffs and Lady Buffs picked up two school records,
three freshman records and four provisional marks at
the Pittsburg State Invitational. On the women’s side,
Lacy Harris and Courtney Head both broke the school
records in their respective events. Harris’s height of
12-0 (3.66m) broke her own school record that she
had set the week before while Head’s mark of 50-10
(15.49m) put her atop the list. Both of those marks
lead the LSC. Jasmine Pitts, Libby Strickland, Malika
Ouedraogo and Haly Berry all picked up provisional
marks. Pitts ran the second-fastest 60 meter dash of
all-time (7.70) to place 13th. Victoria Rausch lowered
her own freshman record in the 60-meter hurdles
placing seventh in a time of 8.68. On the men’s
side, Jamie Taylor-Caldwell won the mile in a time
of 4:12.95 just missing a provisional mark. Geoffrey
Kipchumba and Blake Whalen went 4-5 in the 3k
while Tyson Wieland finished third in the 5k.
