LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field athletes have recorded three NCAA Division II Automatic qualifying
marks (two men and one women) and 75 provisional efforts (34 men, 41 women). See the LSC performance

LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2016 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the Adams State Indoor
Bubble and Fieldhouse in Alamosa, Colo. on February 20-21.
The meet was scheduled to take place at the Texas Tech Athletic Training Center in Lubbock, Texas, but on
December 31 the roof of the ATC deflated due to Winter Storm Goliath canceling all events.
The Adams State facility has a 200-meter track with six lanes on the oval and eight sprint lanes. The entire
facility is a Beynon surface. The Indoor Bubble hosts several regular season meets and has been home to the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships in previous years.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Geoffrey Kipchumba, West Texas A&M University, SO, Kapsabet, Kenya, St. Lucy Education Center
Kipchumba anchored the distance medley relay that ran the third-fastest time in the nation, 9:47.86. The
quartet of Jamie Taylor-Caldwell, Daniel Gyasi, Alexander Korn and Kipchumba broke the existing school and
Lone Star Conference records. He also posted a provisional mark in the 3000-meters with a time of 8:22.94.
MEN’S FIELD
Zach Weatherly, West Texas A&M University, SR, Amarillo, Texas, Tascosa HS
The senior from Amarillo, Texas finished third in the shot put at the Grizzly-Buffalo Clash. He threw a seasonal
best mark of 54-08.25 (16.67m) to pick up a provisional mark. He is currently ranked No. 17 in the nation in
that event.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Klaudia Szych, Eastern New Mexico University, SR, Szczecin, Poland, V Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace
Szych registered a fourth-place finish in the women’s 800-meter run at the New Mexico Classic and provisionally
qualified for the NCAA Championships, with a time of 2:11.28. Her time was .13 better than fifth-place finish
Alexandria Sokolova from NCAA Division I Lamar College, and stands as the eighth-best time in Division II.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Kami Norton, Angelo State University, SO, Albany, Texas, Albany
Norton had one of the top performances in the nation in two separate events. The sophomore recorded a
NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark in the pentathlon with a score of 3,909 points. It is currently the
second best mark in the country. During the pentathlon, she continued to raise the bar in the high jump. She
cleared 5-8 (1.73m) which is the No. 3 jump in NCAA Division II this season and a provisional qualifying mark.
Both marks are personal bests for the Albany, Texas, native.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Julian Clark-Coronado, Eastern New Mexico University, finished 26th in the 60-meter preliminaries, with a
time of 6.93 at the New Mexico Classic. Clark-Coronado also won his section in the men’s 200m dash.
Shanice Cameron, West Texas A&M University, had an outstanding weekend at the Grizzly-Buffalo Clash
where she ran 24.69 in the 200 meters to break the school record. She broke the existing record set by Bianca
Farrington in 2014.
Libby Strickland, West Texas A&M University, best performance of the weekend came in the high jump
during the pentathlon competition. She broke the multi-facility record with her clearance of 5-07.25 (1.71m).
That is the ninth-best mark in the nation this year.

Eastern New Mexico
A strong performance from the Eastern New Mexico indoor track & field team was highlighted by Klaudia Szych
at the New Mexico Classic. The senior a time of 2:12.02 in the 800-meter run to place fourth and provisionally
qualify for the NCAA Championships. Szych’s time was .13 better than fifth-place finish Alexandria Sokolova
from NCAA Division I Lamar College, and stands as the eighth-best time in Division II. Sabrina Huelga finished
tenth in the event to meet qualifying standards, with a time of 2:16.10. In the distance running, Amber Saiz
crossed the finish line with a time of 5:14.61, to place ninth in the one-mile race. Coley Norcross finished 15th
in both the one-mile and 3,000-meter run with times of 5:30.11 and 11:02.88. Shelby Jones won the first flight
in the shot put and placed 11th overall, with a toss of 40-0.75. Adilene Adame took 16th place in the event.
Julian Clark-Coronado finished 26th in the 60-meter preliminaries, with a time of 6.93. Victor Cruz took 32nd in

the event and was 25th in the 200-meter dash. The men’s team saw four runners (Clark-Coronado, Cruz, Avery
Rasher, and Gus Swanson) win a flight in the 200-meter dash. Swanson also finished 23rd in the 400m, with a
time of 49.54, after he won the seventh section. Valentin Caudron took 13th in the men’s one-mile with a time
of 4:33.59, just 1.03 behind USC’s Trent Rule. He also had a 14th-place performance in the 3,000-meter run.
The ENMU indoor track & field teams will return to action on Friday, for the Northern Arizona Invitational.

The Buffs and Lady Buffs had a successful weekend at the Grizzly-Buffalo Clash. The Lady Buffs were led by the
record-breaking performances of Shanice Cameron, Nikolina Hrelec and Courtney Head. All three broke school
records and picked up provisional marks. Cameron ran 24.69 in the 200 meters while Hrelec ran 2:13.95 to put
their names atop the all-time list. Head broke her own school record in the weight throw with her mark of 51-
11.25 (15.83m). Cameron came back and ran the second-fastest 60-meter dash in school history in 7.65. Libby
Strickland won both the pentathlon and high jump. She provisionally qualified in the pentathlon with a score
of 3,619 which is the fifth most in school history. During that competition, she set a multi facility record in the
high jump with her clearance of 5-07.25 (1.68m). That mark ranks her ninth in the nation. The quartet of Jamie
Taylor-Caldwell, Daniel Gyasi, Alexander Korn and Geoffrey Kipchumba broke the existing Lone Star Conference
and school record in the distance medley relay on Friday night. Their time of 9:47.86 is the third-fastest in the
nation this year. Kipchumba came back on Saturday and ran a provisionally qualifying time in the 3,000 meters.
His time of altitude-adjusted time of 8:22.94 ranks him 26th in the nation. Other notable performances came
from Alexander Korn, Grant McLain and Coalson Brown. Korn ran the third-fastest 800 meters in school history
in 1:52.62. McLain won the heptathlon with the third most points in school history, 4,267. Brown finished in the
heptathlon while setting a new multi facility record in the high jump. His mark 6-06.75 (2.00m) is the seventh-
best mark in school history.
