As we know Hip–Hop and R&B contain many similarities they also share many differences. I am an
individual who sees the beauty and greatness in all music, but happen to be passionate about two
genres, Hip–Hop and R&B when I listen two these genres I tend to notice the differences and the
same that they have. The two music genres, Hip–Hop and R&B Shares many similarities and
differences especially involving the lyric and the tone and/or melodies.
R&B was created by African Americans at the end of World War II (1941–45) and the early 1960's
from Soul music, Jazz, Gospel, Pop music and Blues as time went on R&B was born. In its earlier
days, R&B Music was all about racial issues, and artists gave a lot of importance to the style and
arrangement, which included different instruments and rhythms to produce different types of

When hip–hop first emerged in the streets of New York in the 1970s, nobody predicted that this new
type of sound would become as admired and widespread as it has become. This new genre of music
has encouraged and motivated numerous artists from not just the United States, but elsewhere to
integrate their own originality and create a new sound that several audiences can enjoy throughout. I
started to pay attention to Puerto–Rican rap group Calle 13 when I first heard their song "Atreve–
Te–Te". This track had a different sound and lyrical content from other songs that were playing on

When it came to music, I usually just listen to whatever was around me, radio, TV, YouTube, etc, no
matter the genre. Until recently, I never had a "favorite type" of music, but now I've become fond of
rock and most of all classic rock. If there was a genre that I'd have to say I personally don't like, it's
rap and most of all, hip hop. I don't like hip hop for a few reasons, the lyrics, its "evolution", and its
rhythm. I would go on, but I'll discuss these, since I find these to be the biggest problems I have

In order to understand hip–hop dance, it is important to recognize hip–hop music and where it came
from. Many scholars of rap music relate the founding of rap to African and African American oral
and musical traditions, specifically African griots and storytellers. They link the rhythm of rap to the
use of drums in Africa and to African American music in the United States, from slave songs and
spirituals to jazz and R&B. Scholars have found very interesting connections between rap music and
Black nationalist traditions (traditions historically practiced by black people that serve as part of
their racial identity). Rap is similar to the "call and response of the black church, the joy and pain of
the blues, the jive talk and slang of the hipsters and jazz musicians, the boasting of street talk, the
sidesplitting humor of comedians, and the articulateness of black activists." All of these African

traditional African societies, the spoken word and oral culture included poetry, storytelling, and

community in America. Some people believe that it has a negative impact while others feel that it
