Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London
"To Build a Fire" by Jack London is set in the harsh landscape of the Yukon Wilderness where the
sun does not shine for months and the temperature is continuously more than 50 degrees below zero.
London introduces us to the main character whom he only calls "the man" and to his companion, a
wolf–dog. The man is headed for an old claim on the left fork of Henderson Creek to meet the
"boys". As they travel, the dog is aware of the brutal cold, however, the man is only aware of the
cold when his spit crackles in the air. Yet, the man isn't concerned about the cold. The man continues
traveling at about four miles per hour until, he reaches Henderson Creek and notices traps that hide
pools of water under the snow. He takes care to avoid these traps by forcing his dog to travel ahead
of him. At 12:30 p.m., the man arrives at the forks of the creeks and eats his lunch. In the act of
trying to eat, he is astonished by the rate at which his fingers become numb from the cold. After the
man makes a fire and has a smoke, he moves on. At a place where there were no signs of any trap
beneath the ice, the man falls through and wets himself halfway to the knees. Knowing the danger of
his predicament, the man quickly builds a fire to dry out his feet. Unknowingly, the man built his
fire underneath a snow–covered tree and just as the fire is roaring to life, an avalanche of snow falls
onto the fire putting it out. "The man was shocked. It was as though he had just heard his own

"Radical vs Incremental Innovation" Banning the Cultural stereotypes
Introduction
The objective of this paper is to examine two particular forms of innovation – "Radical" and
"Incremental", find relevance and discrepancy in–between and observe an impact triggered by one
or two particular forms of innovation. The first part of the paper further elaborates on radical and
incremental forms of innovation, draws parallels and emphasizes Its impact on the nature of
innovation. The second part of the paper introduces the case study when MA Creative and Cultural

There are number of definitions for these innovation forms, however many of them are putting an
emphasis on the degree "to which an innovation represents a departure from existing practice"
(Schilling, 2011:48).
Radical innovation should present a new product, service, practice or solution that significantly
differs from previous experience. It usually comes with higher risks as there is no prior knowledge
and competencies are low (Schilling, 2011:vi). Introducing of a third–generation (3G) telephony
could be a good illustration of a radical innovation. 3G was launched with an increased bandwidth
that could not only transmit a voice but support more diverse multimedia applications
(http://searchtelecom.techtarget.com). To switch from 2G to 3G the telecommunication service
required significant investment in the development of relevant equipment and infrastructure, such as
larger device display, memory, and battery capacity, etc. Besides, it was not quite clear how would
customers react to this innovation. So, companies and their managers had to evaluate different risks
simultaneously, including technical achievability, reliability, costs, and demand.
Incremental innovation, on the other hand, does not need to be an exceptionally new or
revolutionary. It can be the same product, service or process with simple adjustments or minor
advancements (Munson and Pelz 1979). For example, the difference between two generations of

The Impact Of Social Media On The Economy Of Silicon Valley
Introduction
For decades now Silicon Valley(a nickname for the San Francisco Bay southern region)has been the
capital for major US technology firms and has become a thriving ecosystem for innovation.
Household names in tech ranging from Apple to WhatsApp continue to drive innovations that
improve or replace today's major industries and business practices. Although many start–up
companies fail to gain traction or wide spread success, a handful of companies have risen to world–
wide success and multi–billion dollar valuations at a pace never before seen in business history. The
well–known social media company Facebook has built a value of over $245 Billion dollars(greater
than the value of Wal–mart) and the car service phone application Uber has seized a notable share of
the taxi cab market although neither company existed 12 years ago. These rapid innovations and
general culture of innovation are overthrowing well–entrenched incumbents and revamping the
structure of a diverse array of markets. Destructive innovation, however, is not a new concept.
Technological advancement has been the cornerstone of growth for most economies and particularly
for the United States for hundreds of years. The railroads seized the market that once belonged to
horse drawn carriages and the digital camera brought an end to the dominance of the Polaroid
camera. Disruptive innovation and growth lead to the reallocation of value amongst firms within any
given sector and between the sectors of the

A Summary Of Traditional Religion In Society
Butler uses traditional religion in the novel to demonstrate the ways in which it can be a destructive
or constructive force in society. Butler demonstrates the dangers of dogmatic, authoritarian religion
when it is used as an excuse to ignore the needs of others and the changes in society. Religion is not
inherently a destructive force; it becomes a destructive force in Lauren's community when it is used
to control and limit thinking because of deference to church leaders such as Lauren's father. There is
no motivation to adapt or change. The religion in Lauren's neighborhood, led by her father, prevents
its members from moving forward as they believe "in a literal acceptance of everything in the Bible"
(Butler 23). The community's interpretation of the Bible does not help them adapt as society
changes. By taking the Bible literally rather than using it as a guide for understanding the world
around them, as an example of how to extend community to the people who have been ostracized,
the community uses religion as an excuse to focus on themselves rather than focusing on others with
further supports the neoliberalism in their society. Lauren's community is willing to leave the safety
of the community to have a baptism in "big tub of expensive water" (Butler 16). Lauren points out
that it would be less expensive and less dangerous to be baptized at home in a bath tub, but no one
pays attention to her idea. She writes, "to adults, going outside to a real church is like

New Methods Of Managing And Communication
Introduction
Things change. New products are invented. New markets are created. New jobs are shaped. New
methods of managing and communication are established and there are new norms, values, and
regulations. But then again, old products disappeared, old jobs died out, old markets vanished, and
many other old things are gone nowadays. This is because of creative destruction, a term coined by
Joseph Schumpeter (1942). It refers to the transformation of industry practices.
However, transformation is not as easy as it may seem. There are many aspects that make such
transformation very difficult to achieve. Uncertainty for the future for example, entrepreneurs might
be hold back because the future state is unknown. Furthermore, there is inertia that lies in the
psyche, which means that humans tend to resist things that are different and there is the fear of
social sanctioning. Additionally, markets need to be ready for a change, ideas need to be legitimized
and external developments play a significant role in realizing creative destruction as well.
Entrepreneurs need to understand how to see beyond these barriers in order to create the foundation
for radical change. In this essay all processes of creative destruction will be discussed and within
every process the difficulties of transformation will be explained. Relevant examples, such as Jon
Bannenberg's new superyacht design, will be used to underline the explanations.
First, the term creative destruction will be

Prisoner Of War Essay
These fences with their isolation properties have me feeling more like a criminal in a Prisoner of
War camp, held here for seeking a better, safer life with a better future for my girls. We've been here
for months, a year, longer, I don't know. I have no way to know, no communication, no luxuries to
make you feel at home, not even a calendar to cross of the days that come again and again but every
day is the same. Is as prison like as I know. I brought my girls in hope for them to live a life free of
corruption, control and guns. My girls remember little of the life we used to have, they have spent so
long in this prison, these walls and bars is all they really know.
Before we left Iraq, the rebel group of ISIS was clearing its way down through the country, forcing
many people away from home and down into the major cities. They destroyed anything in their path
and everything that had religious significance to many people. Their power crumbled bustling cities,
small towns and helpless farming villages. We had a small farm in the hills to the east of the coast,
with a lovely little herd of cattle, others had goats or chickens that would be shared out amongst the
quiet village. The perfect, tranquil life removed from the control ... Show more content on

Tornado : A Short Story
In the towns of Greece, there was a certain gray eyed, black haired boy named Tornado. What no
one knew, was that he would grow up to treacherous things. Tornado was troubled as a young boy,
with his father never home and his mother lying in her grave, he was depressed and lonely. He
would go to school to find, his classmates either teasing, or harassing him and using him like a toy.
His world started to slowly fall apart, and with Tornado being alone, he grew angry. Over the next
few years of his childhood, his father left him alone with nobody to tell him wrong, and guide him.
He was a lost puppy. When he became a young adult, he couldn't contain it anymore. He was a
balloon, ready to pop. He had enough. Tornado started to thrash out on innocent citizens in his town.
He no longer had emotions, except one; anger. One day, his blood was boiling and he was as red as a
tomato. He stormed around the streets of Greece, knocking down everything in his path, creating
destruction and lowering the citizens self–esteem. He was a ticking time–bomb. Citizens were
screaming at him to stop what he is doing, but Tornado's anger deafened him. Nobody was able to
calm him, and they knew that. So the citizens waited his tantrum out. This wasn't the first time this
has happened, so they knew what to do. They all went in their houses, away from him, so he
couldn't do harm to anyone. But they kept a close eye on him, waiting for the devil to leave. While
no one confronts him, scared

Horrific Affect of Pestcides in A Fable for Tomorrow from...
Everyday people all over the world try to improve the qualities of their lives. Nonetheless, they
forget that what they do can have severe harms and damages on the environment and other
organisms. In the excerpt "A Fable for Tomorrow" from the book Silent Spring, Rachel Carson
describes the disastrous and horrific effects of pesticides on the environment and animals of the
town. In the essay "Our Animal Rites" by Anna Quindlen, she shows the inhumanity of animal
hunting by human. Furthermore, she argues how human migration is destroying the natural habitats
that belong to the animals. In the excerpt "Reading the River" from the autobiographical book Life
on Mississippi, Mark Twain describes how he loses the ability to perceive the ... Show more content

This suggests that the roadsides was once beautiful and bloomed with healthy and lively vegetation;
however, they are now destroyed due to the use of pesticides. From these examples, it can be shown
that even though pesticide is beneficial, its deadly effects outweigh its benefits; in addition, it is a
dangerous substances to the environment, organisms, and even human. Animal hunting is not only
inhumane but can also lead to the extinction of many species. In the essay "Our Animal Rites",
Quindlen asserts that it is "pathetic to consider the firepower" the hunters use in order to "bring
down one fair–sized deer" (33). In this quote, she explains that the use of firepower by human to kill
innocent animals is unfair and heartrending. Furthermore, Quindlen describes that even though the
bears are killed by the "smiling" and triumphant hunters after the "three bear days in the autumn,"
the bears look "more dignified than they do" (33). This suggests that hunting animals is not
entertaining but rather unacceptable and disgraceful. Furthermore, many species can become extinct
due to excessive hunting. In an ecology class, I learned that the extinction rate of species each year
is approximately two hundred to two thousand each year. This is an extremely high and alerting rate
since there is only around two million species that has been scientifically identified on the planet. In
these examples, it can be concluded that the hunting of innocent animals is atrocious and

Power: The Panther
Through the ages people have seen the rapid decline of many different species. Unfortunately due to
habitat loss, hunting, and other anthropocentric reasons the loss of wildlife is a norm in the world
today. The southern region of the United States is just a remnant of the beautiful landscape that used
to cover the area. One species that has seen a direct negative implication of the development in this
landscape is the majestic Florida Panther. This creature has been slowly decreasing ever since the
first settlers in 1539 (Silverstein et al., 1997). Throughout the 1900's people were both encouraged,
and often times paid, to hunt them (Silverstein et al., 1997). The panther is still in danger today due
to the destruction of their habitat with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is learned that they believe that the world was created through a storm. The hurricane that occurs
in this section is very important because it is a end of an era and a start to a new one. What is
interesting in this section is the aspect of the great Methuselah tree that is finally taken down by the
storm. This tree is almost prehistoric and has been there since anyone can remember. I think this part
of the book represents the fact that no matter what you are the idea of "mother nature" will always
be a force that cannot be reckoned with. By dredging certain areas in Florida we have created a even
bigger problem when rains come from storms. The Everglades were a natural sponge for excess
water in this area. Unfortunately because so much has been destroyed the water has nowhere to go
and flooding occurs. Because we have changed the landscape so much we haven't just endangered
other animals, such as the panthers, but in the process, ourselves.
Linda Hogan write, " For the Panther. May Their Kind Survive." . She writes this book to raise the
awareness of the anthropocentric destruction occurring throughout the Southern United States.
Through the watchful eyes of Omishto we see what the destruction of wildlife does to the southern
landscape. The Taiga people, who are seen as being close to nature and part of the panthers, are
being marginalized and being brought to extinction just like the panthers. Omishto

Causes Of Animal Extinction
Across the world, animal extinction is a problem causing thousands of animals to die each year.
Throughout time hundreds of animals are being slaughtered across the world. Some of the animals
that we may know and love are slowly becoming extinct. Although it may not be animals such as
our precious dogs or adorable kittens, there are animals in the world slowly declining in their
population size. Animals such as rhinos, eagles, and different species of fish are becoming
endangered and some are on the brink of extinction. Animal extinction is a problem that is gaining
recognition across the world. The most known causes of animal extinction are habitat fragmentation,
poaching, and deforestation. The first problem animals face is habitat fragmentation. Habitat
fragmentation "is the process by which habitat loss results in the division of large, continuous
habitats into smaller, more isolated remnants". This is a problem because it means that large groups
of animals are losing their homes. This causes them to try and look for new homes for survival. This
later causes a problem for animals that have a small chance for survival without a home. For some
animals, their home is the most protective place for them. These animals may not possess many
predatory traits for survival. Unfortunately this makes them an easy target for the animals that are
big and dangerous. For the animals lucky enough to find a new home, they still have problems to
face for survival. Animals choose their habitat based on their environment. For a habitat to be
suitable, it has to fit the requirements for that animal. It should be close to a food source. It must be
an appropriate size for that animal. As well as provide a secure location for the animal and its
possible children. Once this habitat is destroyed, it is hard for an animal to find another home that it
fits their essential needs. This means that it may take too long for that animal to find a new home
which makes its chances of survival slim. This can be fixed by providing homes for those animals
that no longer have one. Rescue centers are working hard to find animals that have lost their homes.
Once they are found, the people nurture them back to a stable healthy state, and give

Savagery In Lord Of The Flies
Man's savage impulses and the protection of society in Lord of the Flies Men, without rules, can be
led towards destruction. Lord of the Flies depicts at first a group of boys trying to maintain order,
and a later descent into savagery. One of the most direct, apparent examples of this is through Roger.
Through the contrast of the self–restraint Roger has at the beginning of the novel and the murder he
absentmindedly commits at the end, Golding illustrates how man's desire for savagery is restrained
only by the enforced civilization of society. The self–restricted actions of Roger before savagery
fully settles on the island are the result of the imposed order of everyday human life. Roger is
playfully throwing stones at Henry, but does not allow any of them to hit his target. To show the
importance and connection of Roger's actions, Golding writes, "Roger gathered a handful of stones
and began to threw them. Yet there was a space around Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into
which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life" (Golding 62).
Roger, throwing rocks at someone to begin with, has a desire to hurt people. The "taboo of old life",
however, is able to completely restrict this desire from doing any harm, being "invisible yet strong"
as well as making Roger unable to "dare" to throw a stone close to Henry. This language makes it
seem as if Roger, having gone through the civilization of "old life", is forced to

The Pros And Cons Of Creative Destruction
Joseph Schumpeter was one of the most famous author and economist in the 20th century. Among
his numerous findings, one stands out; creative destruction. Creation refers to – disruptive –
innovation on one side, while destruction alludes to the disappearance of some jobs, industries or
even sectors on the other. A popular example is transportation. When combustion engines were
invented, horse drawn–vehicles suddenly became out of age. On the short term, there was a lot of
job destructions too. If there was no need for horse–drawn vehicles, all adjacent sectors were hit
hard: horse breeders were probably left with less demand, horse–drawn vehicles companies began to
lose their clientele. In creative destruction, neither does the creation part nor the destruction part
happen overnight. Before being affordable to the masses and cause the economic disruption
mentioned above, the auto industry had to undergo several incremental – as opposed to disruptive –
changes. Eventually, fordism, which has been a cause of destructive creation as well, came along the
way and created millions of jobs in the auto industry. When one looks at the jobs created directly,
indirectly – with auto–part suppliers, auto–dealers – and thanks to new trade opportunities made
possible by this new technology, it becomes obvious that if jobs losses can be painful, on the long
run, benefits from creation overweight its drawbacks. (Creative destruction, Ricardo Caballero, MIT

On Thursday, July 26, 1945 United States (US) President Harry S. Truman, United Kingdom (UK)
Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Chairman of the Nationalist Government of China, Chiang

Cloning Endangered Species only Delays Extinction
Last week, scientists revealed they have successfully cloned an endangered Asian gaur –– a stocky
ox–like animal with a humped back. Such a technological breakthrough provides confidence that we
will soon have the endangered species problem under control. Or does it?
Though the university's burgeoning squirrel population seems to indicate otherwise, species
extinction is a grave problem in most parts of the world. Species are imperiled by myriad causes, but
the four main perpetrators are habitat destruction and alteration, exotic or invasive species,
overhunting and pollution. The gravest threat is the loss of physical habitat: The clearing or large–

Unless we rapidly restore large tracts of their natural habitat, giant pandas are doomed.
Some people will argue that pandas are not extinct until the last individual –– wild or captive –– is
dead. But representation in zoos does not substitute for a natural existence. Nor does it satisfy future
generations –– some of whom will certainly wish to see the magnificent animals in their native
habitats. And a life of captivity is certainly not the best solution for the pandas themselves.
The scientists responsible for the cloning did not claim that their technology would single–handedly
solve the biodiversity crisis. And unless the gaur ––"Noah" –– suffers species confusion from being
birthed by a domestic cow, his addition will certainly be a small help in the attempt to stave off
extinction.
But before we throw our money into technological solutions, we should consider the opportunity
costs. While the funds for such efforts come from biotechnology firms –– who benefit from flashy
stunts such as cloning –– environmentalists will take all that they can get. But the moment
governments start investing precious conservation dollars into these techno–fixes, environmentalists
will go up in arms. They already know how to protect endangered species. For the cost of one gaur

Long Distance Movements Of Animals
Introduction
For most species, movement is essential for life. Movement of seeds helps plants disperse, while
animals move to forage, reproduce, find alternate habitat types, repopulate areas where they have
been extirpated, and maintain genetic diversity needed to adapt to change. If individuals cannot
move across a landscape to mix with individuals of other populations, local extinctions can result.
Additionally, the smaller a population is, the more vulnerable it is to extinction if that population is
also isolated (i.e., lacks the ability to intermix with other populations (Fagan & Holmes 2006)).
Juveniles are often especially important for movements that help maintain genetic diversity in
populations (Rothermel & Semlitsch 2002).
Long distance movements of animals can take one of two forms, migration or dispersal. Migratory
movements consist of daily, seasonal, or even generational movements among habitat types while
dispersal movements are movements away from a normal range, providing for the mixing of genetic
materials, or the population of new habitats or repopulation of previously occupied but currently
vacant habitats.
When animals migrate, it is because there is a need for individuals in a population to move to a
different habitat patch. These movements can be to reach a breeding site (Sinevro 2007, Webster et
al. 2002), a more favorable climate (Peñuelas & Filella 2001), an overwintering area (Wilcove &
Wikelski 2008), or better forage (Olson et al. 2006).

Essay On Animal Extinction
Pleading Guilty to Animal Extinction Animal extinction rates have skyrocketed within recent years
due to the numerous detrimental human and environmental activities that currently wreak havoc on
our planet. Human beings alone are placing enough strain on animals to leave lasting and harmful
effects for years to come. Due to the steadily growing population, individuals are turning untouched
pieces of land into developmental projects to benefit humans. However, these sources of land are
home to a multitude of species whom are now struggling to survive due to these changes to their
habitat. Along with dismantling species environments, some individuals are also engaging in illegal
wildlife trade in order to keep up with the growing demand for numerous types of products. In
addition, deforestation is another activity humans participate in that negatively impacts animals
environments to benefit their own. However, there are also numerous types of environmental
activities that affect animals as well. Climate change and different types of pollution are proving to
be harmful as well. Overall, unless action is taken to overcome the consequences animals currently
face due to the harmful activities caused by humans and environmental factors, species will continue
to fall victim to extinction. Animals are losing their habitats at a rapid rate due to the detrimental
acts humans engage in throughout their life. Individuals are destroying animals habitats in order to

The Fate of Our Homeless Animals
In our world today, there are countless numbers of homeless animals. Every year, millions of
animals are abused. Of those, thousands don't make it. According to the UN, 200 species go extinct
every day. In the US alone, more than 1 million animals are run over every day. These are just some
the cruel realities that exist in our current state. It may be too late for some, but there is still time,
still hope for others. We need to invest more in preventing animal cruelty before it's too late. We
need to speak for those who don't have a voice of their own.
First, animals that are used for our entertainment are inhumanely abused. When I was younger, I
always dreamed of going to the circus. Seeing clowns and their funny acts, but most of all, I wanted
to see the elephants do their amazing tricks. I never did get to go to the circus, but now I have lost
all desire to. Once I learned what really was going on, I was outraged. Elephants are dragged away
from their mothers shortly after birth and chained for up to 100 hours at a time. Tricks are learned by
binding them with ropes, using bull hooks, and even electric shockers on their head. Orcas from
SeaWorld are captured from their natural habitat, and those that aren't taken away are killed. In the
wild, orcas can live up to 100 years, but in captivity, the average age is only nine. In the wild,
dolphins and whales usually swim up to 100 miles a day, where as in SeaWorld, they're kept in tanks
that are ,in an oversized dolphin's

Causes Of Habitat Loss
This world is filled with several natural areas and landscapes and not only are they extremely
beautiful, they are also extremely useful to a variety of species. However, we humans have pushed
the boundaries and started to replace those naturally made landscapes with what we desire most,
want, and need. Habitats and ecosystems of all kinds: prairie landscapes, woodlands, and wetlands
are disappearing by the minute. The more we humans exercise our ability to want and need, the
more these habitats will be lost. For you to truly understand what habitat loss is, you need to know
what a habitat is. A habitat is where a certain species lives, whether that be an animal or plant. Every
species requires a necessary food and water source, along with shelter and territory space within that
environment or habitat. They also need a variety of physical features such as trees, rocks, and
lakes/ponds. Habitat loss is when that certain species' basic needs, such as food, water, shelter, and
space are destroyed or altered, which can be caused by a number of things (Michael Evans). One of
the primary causes for the loss of a species habitat are humans. Like I said before we humans need
and want things and will exercise that action at any cost. More good and space is required as the
world's population grows. The only way to get those things is by taking it. Agriculture land is in
high demand with the amount of people that need to be fed and housed. We are able to achieve these
lands by

Comparing Sea Of Destruction In Deucalion And Phyrra
The non–conceding waters wash over the lands, destroying all in their path. This is one thing
constant in all three stories of the flood. Yes, these stories are similar, but their differences are great.
How many days of destruction and chaos ensued? How was the boat of salvation constructed? Who
was chosen to survive? These stories all have different answers to these questions. These
differences, as well as the similarities, will be seen and the reasons these stories have survived
through history, revealed. In all of these stories, the waters of doom reigned upon the Earth, but only
for a given amount of time. Noah witnessed the power of destruction for forty days and nights while
Deucalion and Phyrra only suffered the ending of the world for nine days and nights. Utnapishtim
felt the sorrow of seeing his world be swept away for just six days and nights. These people were
given salvation because they were righteous and just, but they were also given the worst punishment
of all. They had to stand by and watch as their world crumbled. They were unable ... Show more

In all these instances, the vessels were made, not by gods, but by the ones chosen to survive. Though
they were all made by man, none of these incredible masterpieces were made exactly the same.
Noah's arch was three hundred cubits by fifty cubits by thirty cubits. The single God in this story
was very specific as to what the dimensions were. The several gods in The Epic of Gilgamesh (when
referring to the flood section) were not very specific, giving Utnapishtim the directions to build a
vessel and nothing else. His dimensions were one acre at the base, each side of the deck measured
one hundred and twenty cubits which made it a square shape and he eventually made seven of these
decks in all. The Greek gods in The Great Flood gave Deucalion and Phyrra only the instruction to

Mammal Essay
Introduced Mammals
Bovidae, Suidae and Equidae
The introduced Bovidae, Suidae and Equidae families members found at Currawinya National Park
are Bos Taurus, Capra hircus, Sus scrofa and Equus caballus (Queensland Government (c), 2017).
Or more commonly European cattle, goats, pigs and horses.
Habitat requirements
The Bovidae, Suidae and Equidae members found in the park have the capability to adapt to a wide
range of habitats. Each family being able to occupy temperate terrestrial habitats such as savanna,
grassland, forest and many more (Clement; Mileski).
Feeding requirements
The Bovidae and Equidae are herbivores feeding on primarily leaves, stem, bark, nuts and grains
while Sus scrofa from the Suidae family is an omnivore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vulpes vulpes lives in a varied habitat ranging from desert to forest to human populated areas
(L.Fox).
Feeding requirements
Similar to habitat requirements, the feeding requirements of Felis Catus and Oryctolagus cuniculus
differ fairly significantly being carnivorous, consuming terrestrial vertebrates such as birds and
insects and herbivorous consuming leaves, tubers, seeds, fruit and flowers respectively (Tislerics;
Birch). Again like the habitat requirements Vulpes vulpes falls in the middle being an omnivore
consuming a diet including birds, mammals, reptiles and fruit (L.Fox).
Influences
Vulpes vuples and felis catus are two of the most prominent predators with in Currawinya National
Park, predating on families such as the Dasyuridae, Muridae, Tachyglossidae and Thylacomyidae
(The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species , 2017 ; Burbidge & Woinarski, 2016).
Influences at Currawinya National Park
For many of the families present at Currawinya National Park, habitat degradation is one of the
main influences on their survival across the country, while much of the habitat degradation in the
park is natural ware away and break down, some is due to high visitor usage of particular areas
(Queensland Government , 2001). However it is important to note that any degraded sites across the
park such as possible erosion, area disturbances or washouts are rehabilitated to allow

The Earth Has Vast Oceans
Out of the eight planets in our solar system, Earth is the only planet circling the Sun on which life as
we know it could (and does) exist. Unlike any other planet, the Earth has vast oceans with millions
of small islands in them, green vegetation, huge landmasses, different topographies, like the
mountains, ice caps and deserts, all of which present an amazing variety of color and texture. be the
extremely cold Antarctica, where hardy microscopic beings thrive in ponds, tiny wingless insects
live in patches of moss and lichen, and plants grow and flower yearly or the extremely warm desert
of Sahara plants such as date palms and acacia put down long roots to reach life–sustaining water or
often the seeds of flowering plants sprout quickly after a rain and complete their growing cycle and
producing seeds in a matter of days, before the soil dries out, one can find some form of life other in
almost every ecological niche on earth. From the outer layers of the atmosphere to the deep sea beds
at the bottom of the oceans and from the coldest poles to the warmest equator, life thrives here. Till
date, no convincingly true evidence of life has been found on any planet. [1] While the Earth has
been around for 4.6 billion years and our ancestors have been around for about six million years, the
modern form of humans is claimed to have evolved only about 200,000 years ago. The present

Implementation Of Characters And Platform Design
Implementation characters &platform design Most of the detached body and platform elements were
imported through asset store of Unity and the rest of them were found online, which saves lots of
time for us in preparation phase. We designed totally three characters by splicing all the individual
parts of the body then created 4 animations, running, jumping, standing and idly for each. The most
important part when doing this is setting the layers and the hierarchical structure of parts of the body
to be more lifelike according to the real physical model. Similarly, the animations of each character
meet the needs of actions in game time. Figure 3 places the basic profile of characters we designed.
Figure 3. Character profiles After the preparation of characters, the phase coms to the platform
design. The main platform contains 5 main layers laying out the players, background, UI, front
ground and tiles. With distinguished layers of the objects in scenes, we could use camera's culling
mask to render objects or write special events for certain layers. For example, background layer is
for the basic background of the platform while front ground is the front landscape up forward the
players and tiles. There all the objects placed in the scenes are just for normal pass mode because the
platform for this mode is fixed since the difficulty of each level should be increasing with certain
level design. First, we edited the segment items and merged then into single object which can be

Essay on America Needs Music Censorship
America Needs Music Censorship
"Obscene: so excessive as to be offensive" (http://www.webster.com/cgi–bin/dictionary). This is the
way the Webster dictionary defines obscene. How do you? Some say obscene is vulgar; others say
the best way to describe obscene is through disgust. No matter how it is thought of, obscene material
is everywhere in society. Television is becoming more liberal, magazines are less edited, and music
is more abrasive. At some point, the public must put its foot down and demand censorship in order
to keep decency in the world.
Hilary Rosen, the president and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America said, "The

"Numerous studies indicate that a preference for heavy metal music may be a significant marker for
alienation, substance abuse, psychiatric disorders, suicide risk, sex–role stereotyping, or risk–taking
behaviors during adolescence" (http://www.aap.org/policy/01219.html). This statement, and others
like it, has been used as a hypothesis as to why the students opened fire killing 13 and wounding 23
at Columbine. The explicit lyrics have been thought to motivate teenagers into committing acts of
violence. Take, for example, the lyrics from a band named Drowning Pool, "Push me again, this is
the end, skin against skin, blood and bone, you're all by yourself, but you're not alone, you wanted
in, now you're here, driven by hate consumed by fear, let the bodies hit the floor"
(http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/drowningpool/bodies.html). This song is titled Bodies and speaks
out about committing murder because of alienation. All teenagers feel these feelings at some point
while they are growing up. While most teenagers can look to someone or something to get them
through this difficult time, some find release in music. If they are exposed to these types of lyrics,
without any rationality, the teenagers can find themselves in

An Analysis Of Weisman 's The World Without Us
The Power of Nature: Rhetorical Strategies in Weisman's The World Without Us: Unbuilding Our
Homes In the book World Without Us, author Alan Weisman talks about what would happen to the
natural and built environment we've established if humans suddenly disappeared. In Chapter two,
Unbuilding Our Home, Weisman effectively informs his readers of the total control that nature has
on our society by describing the immediate effect it takes on our own homes. He forces the readers
to recognize that we coexist with nature yet nature has the upper hand on man–made objects.
Weisman achieves this by targeting the reader's emotions through description and personification
and by providing insight that appeals to the reader's intellect of the future. In Chapter 2, Weisman
walks us meticulously through the steps that lead inevitably to the complete destruction of almost
every single part of our houses. The first and last enemy is water. Water sneaks in at the weak points
of roofs, near the chimney. Mold begins to grow on wet wood; under the mold, "threadlike filaments
called hyphae are secreting enzymes that break cellulose and lignin down into fungi food." (page
16) The roof falls in. More water enters through the windows, some shattered when birds flew into
them. The floor corrodes. Squirrels and lizards eat the drywall. Vinyl siding begins to crack as its
plasticizers weaken. Even aluminum begins to break down, as salt eats it away. Steel gas pipes begin
to rust away.

The Cage Of Poverty In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
The Cage of Poverty In the short story "Marigolds", the author, Eugenia Collier, uses several key
events throughout the short story to represent the unseen cage that the main character, Lizabeth, is
trapped in, and ultimately breaks. The story is set in a shanty town, likely taking place during the
Great Depression. Throughout the story, Lizabeth goes through a difficult stage in life, a stage in
which she is in conflict about whether she wants to be a carefree, innocent child, or an educated,
compassionate adult. The climax of the story, when Lizabeth tears and rips up Miss Lottie's
marigolds, is such an emotional moment for Lizabeth that she finally completes her transition to
adulthood, understands her endless cycle of poverty, and breaks the final bar of the cage. The author
uses a seemingly endless cycle of poverty to emphasize the cage in which the characters are trapped.
As Lizabeth muses over her childhood, she recalls the daily cycle of how "each morning our mother
and father trudged wearily down the dirt road and around the bend, she to her domestic job, he to his
daily unsuccessful quest for work." (1). Every morning began the same way, passed the same way,
and ended the same way. Lizabeth feels trapped, forced to go through the same series of events for
what seems to be the rest of her life, with the same people, in the same place. When the author pairs
this with the "dusty" setting of the town and the time placement of the Great Depression, it creates
an effect of hopelessness for the first part of the story. This is only furthered by Lizabeth continually
returning to the idea that "Poverty was the cage in which we were all trapped." (1). Lizabeth opens
the story by first giving a description of her hometown as "dusty", remembering the poverty and
hopelessness. She then continues by referring to the cage of not having enough money, and the cycle
that it put them through, and ends by alluding to her future being limited to her poverty. As the story
progresses, so does Lizabeth. Having entered a difficult stage of her identity, Lizabeth is unsure of
whether to be an innocent, carefree child, or to be a knowledgeable, aware adult. She begins to sense
a change in the coming, and a feeling of end

The Music Of Guns N ' Roses '
Guns N' Roses is a heavy metal band that helped the rise of heavy metal as the mainstream genre in
the 1980's. Their music has a unique sound with influences from heavy metal and hair metal/glam
metal periods. One song that illustrates both of these musical influences is the song "Welcome to the
Jungle" on the album "Appetite for Destruction".
The members of Guns N' Roses got their start as a band in Los Angeles, California. At the time of
their band rising to fame, America was still in the transition of heavy metal becoming a mainstream
genre again. Although metal was present throughout the 1980's it was not until the late 80's when it
achieved mainstream success. The popular music genres at the time were hip–hop, electronic music,
soft rock, alternative rock, and pop music. Country music was also a popular genre of music in the
early 1980's but eventually got less popular. While Guns n' Roses were building up their popularity
it took nearly a year to get the gigs they were looking for. In that year the odds were against the
band. They had a hard time when it came to getting gigs because "... a series of frenzied, violent
shows landed the Gunners on the shit list of everyone, including club owner, rival bands and the
press – everyone but the fans, who grew in numbers with each passing gig," (Del, "Axl Rose: The
Rolling Stone Interview"). Once they had a large fan base, Tom Zutaut noticed the bands popularity
and decided to sign them to Geffen Records in 1986. Even though

Why Did Joey Become Evil?
Once upon a time there was a village named Catastrophe. I'm sure you all are wondering why the
village is named this, well that is a long story. Many years ago there were two brothers, twins in
fact. The evil twin was named joey, while the good twin was named timmy. How did joey become
evil? well, it all started when they were little. Timmy always got all the attention growing up,
everyone always gave him praise for all his good work. Joey felt neglected, so he decided that if
they wouldn't give him the attention he deserved he would make them. Timmy never understood
why Joey hated him. As Joey grew older he became more envious and jealous of Timmy. Joey began
to try to catch the villages attention. He just had to figure out how first, and then it came to him. He
decided to terorrize the people that neglected and ignored him. Joey began building a bunch of
machines and traps to hurt the people. No one knew about his evil plans to hurt the entire village, he

Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God Analysis
"If I could, I'd trade it all. Trade it for a halo. And she said that she'll pray for me. I said, 'it's too late
for me.'" These dark lyrics in the song, "Ordinary Life" by The Weeknd contradict the general
Christian concept of forgiveness. Because The Weeknd feels he has strayed so far from God he
believes he can not be forgiven, even though the Christian Church teaches that you can always
repent your sins to God and be forgiven. This is similar to Jonathan Edwards views on God at the
time because he opposed the idea of God being a loving savior, and said he was capable of mass
destruction with his ultimate power. In the short story "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"
Jonathan Edwards preaches that God is a powerful and dangerous leader of his people through his
use of imagery of natural elements, such as water, fire, and weather. Although water is necessary for
people to survive, in some cases it can be deadly. Edwards uses the imagery of water to show how
God is powerful and can use water to destroy. When Edwards is telling about the rage god is holding
back he describes it as, "If God should only withdraw his hand from the floodgate, it would
immediately fly open, and the fiery floods of the fierceness and wrath of God, would rush forth with
inconceivable fury, and would come upon you with dominant power"(Edwards 2). Edwards
preaches that god is all powerful and warns that God can destroy the whole world whenever he sees
fit to do so. God has the whole word in his

Potential Spatial Structures Of Peregrine Falcon Populations
In addition to the conservation benefits of recognizing that metapopulations have spatial structure, a
number of important conservation risks arise when conservationists do not account for the various
potential spatial structures of metapopulations. One of the risks of assuming homogenous spatial
structure is that the models will produce falsely high numbers, as the actual population violates the
assumptions of the model. Wootton and Bell (1992) highlight the importance of addressing spatial
structures in their model of Peregrine Falcon populations, as the census data alone would predict a
falsely healthy population. Additionally, management plans in populations might be terminated
prematurely if conservationists do not understand and account for the dynamics of source and sink
metapopulations, which may have fluctuating levels of colonization and extinction rates that are
normal for the dynamics of the population (Wootton and Bell 1992). Kauffman et al. (2004) echo
this finding, as they emphasize the importance of understanding habitat–specific demographic data
instead of an overall population count alone, which might carry the assumption of homogenous
spatial structure and lead to a misdiagnosis of a population. Another conservation risk of not
accounting for spatial structure is that conservationists are likely to miss the connections between
spatial structure and genetic structure, both of which play a major role in conservation. Fronhofer et
al. (2012) ran several

Technology And Technology Essay
In this modern age, technological innovation inundates us. Nearly every person, regardless of
income, has a cell phone, computer, and a car. The pace of innovation is so fast that some people
believe the government should take a leadership role in its production. They fail to realize, however,
that if the government were to assume control, progress would be tied up in red tape, and we would
never know what innovations could improve our lives.
The rapid growth of technology causes concerns about unemployment. Consequently, some petition
the government to protect their jobs. Is this a wise decision? As John Stossel says in his TV special
Tech Revolution, "Whenever there's been innovation, experts predict that employment will decline.
But the experts can't imagine the new jobs." A well–known example of technological progress
without government interference is Henry Ford's mass production of cars. He developed a system of
conveyor belts that reduced the time it took to make cars from 12 hours to 2 hours and30 minutes.
At first, not many people could transition from a carriage to an automobile. Yet, as more were
produced, prices dropped, and more people could enjoy the benefits of faster, lower maintenance
transportation. True, some people undoubtedly lost their jobs making carriages. They had to find
new jobs, possibly at Henry Ford's factory. His system of conveyor belts led to the creation of the
assembly line mode of production, an innovation that brought vastly greater

Innovation Theory Of Creative Destruction
The concept of innovation varies greatly on the point of view of the philosopher. Based on this idea
of innovation, the understanding of what it means to create a new idea also transforms. However, in
terms of dealing with people the perspectives may vary, but generally the struggles of innovation
stem from similar ideologies. These thoughts ring true for Schumpeter and Kracauer in their very
different concepts of innovation. Schumpeter, overarching concept of innovation centers around his
theory of creative destruction, whereas Kracauer focuses on the power of boredom.
For Schumpeter, innovation means completely restructuring desire of the individual. This does not
mean reshaping, but rather revolutionizing what the consumer wants and ... Show more content on

Innovation never ceases, it is a never ending process of change.
To create a new idea involves developing something that completely transforms the status quo.
Schumpeter coined the term, industrial mutation, or something, "that incessantly revolutionizes the
economic structure from within, incessantly destroying the old one, incessantly creating a new one.
This process of Creative Destruction is the essential fact about capitalism. It is what capitalism
consists in and what every capitalist concern has got to live in." (Schumpeter, The Process of
Creative Destruction, 83). In a capitalist society, as referenced in creative destruction, the creation of
a new idea often means the destruction of and/or the replacement of a pre–existing belief, product,
or understanding. Sometimes this is completely beneficial to all of society, but more often than not,
there is some detriment, or the detriment of some. This group is usually those already marginalized
most by the current system.
In terms of Schumpeterian innovation, there are multiple obstacles or sources of resistance that have
to be overcome. First off, there is whatever is being destroyed in the creative destruction. Take Uber
for example. In an instant this startup company revolutionized the way that people look at
transportation. People had never considered the ease and brilliance of an app that allowed you to
summon a taxi in minutes. However, with this came a huge decline of the taxi industry: they

Comparing The Haunted Palace And Fire And Ice By Frost
Every known poem no matter how many lines or how complex the words are, cannot be interpreted
in one particular manner. Based on personal experiences we are able to decipher poems in unique
ways. "The Haunted Palace" by Poe and "Fire and Ice" by Frost, have various interpretations that
can be used in regards to politics, physical Interaction, or philosophical meanings, but the main idea
these poems use is towards the environment. These poems link the description of the environment to
human experiences by adding certain elements such as, "Radiant palace–reared its ugly head" (4)
and "But if it had to perish twice" (5) in order to hint the readers that the poem has a connection to
human behavior. The Haunted Palace tells us the story of how ... Show more content on

The poem starts off with the argument between people that believe the world would end in fire, or

anger, greed, and hate. The quotes "From what I've tasted of desire" (3) and "I hold with those who

The poet warns us how peoples desires can lead them the harming of other people, and the
destruction it could cause, but he also tells us about ice. The quotes "I think I know enough of hate"
(6), "To say that or destruction of ice" (7) and "Is also great" (8) is where the poet explains how cold
feelings such as depression, cold–heartedness, and sadness are equally as great in destructive powers
as fire. The feelings of emptiness people have, are what lead them to have an attitude of not showing
concern or interest at specific things such as wars, stereotype issues, and personal problems. The last
quote "And would suffice" (9) is the authors description of how ice could easily replace fire in terms
of destroying the world. This poem is the poets idea of spreading a message warning people to be
careful of not what they generally perceive as bad characteristics, such as anger, or hate, but rather

Journey to Destruction in Steinbeck's Flight and London's To Build a Fire
Not many people have to face death in the cold wasteland of the Arctic or rugged mountains of
California, but Pepe and "the man" do. Although the ironic destruction of Pepe and the man were
caused by relentless forces of nature, their attitudes and reasons for going on their journeys differed.
The setting in both stories consisted of extreme climate and conditions. In Flight the climate was
desert hot during the day and chilling cold at night. "The Torres family had their farm, a few sloping
acres above a cliff that dropped to the brown reefs and to the hissing white waters of the ocean.

Both of the men's attitudes lead to their destruction. Pepe was very lazy and immature. "All day you
do foolish things with the knife, like a toy–baby," his mother stormed. "Big lazy, you must catch the
horse and put on him thy father's saddle." Pepe also had a hot temper. During the travel to Monterey,
Pepe had a little to drink and ended up killing a man. "There was wine to drink. Pepe drank wine.
The little quarrel––the man started toward Pepe and then the knife––it went almost by itself. The
man said names to me I could not allow." In the other story, the man's attitude problem was that he
was too self–confident. He pushed himself to the limit which was farther than he could go. "But the
temperature did not matter." He also didn't listen to the advice of others. "The man from Sulphur

The Relationships Between Michael Porter’s Theory of...
Extract
Eighteen years ago in his masterpiece "The Competitive Advantage of Nations" Michael Porter
developed a model to analyze the competitiveness and economic development of nations, regions,
and cities, a model that is still a milestone in this field of enquiry. In this work I will try to show how
that theory about competitiveness is related with some important aspects of economics of
innovation, also in the light of the already visible effects of globalization.
Introduction
I will first explain the effects of globalization as Kotler identified them in the last edition of his
best–seller; then I will briefly resume the main concepts of Porter's theory of competitiveness,

main interesting and innovative business model ever created, the Ikea one for the furniture

the creation of an efficient and high technological supply–chain that links forests cutting with paper

that the government didn't invest a lot of money in "rain fall" helps to the company: it was really the

Fire and Ice by Robert Frost Essay example
Fire and Ice by Robert Frost
The poem Fire and Ice is a poem written by Robert Frost, and published in 1923. This is a nine–line
poem:
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I have tasted of desire,
I hold those who favor ice.
But if I had to parish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice. This is one of Robert Frost simplest poems. When I initially read this poem, the
first thing that came to my mind was the biblical theory. In the second line "Some say in ice"
furthered my theory. In the Bible it is told that God destroyed Earth with water the first time he

I was thinking that Frost wanted to basically put a question on our minds, If you had to choose a
way to die would you choose fire or ice? In lines seven through nine, "To say that destruction ice is
also great and would suffice". To me this is saying you would have to choose the lesser of the two
evils. Weighting the pros and cons of the two. Asking which one is better for you, a cold slow death
or a hot slow death. But in the end of the poem Frost is saying the no matter which one he picks they
are both going to give you the same results, death. To analyze the poem better I took each word as if
it symbolized a certain characteristic. In lines three and four, "From what I've tasted of desire I hold
those who favor fire" it led me to believe that Frost was trying to use desire as a metaphor to fire.
Desire, can usually be used a negative or a positive manner depending on the context it's use. In the
poem I think that Frost is using it in a negative sense, because he is uses words like end, perish, and
destruction in the poem. Negatively the word desire can mean the drive to win or receive something
at any cost, the urge for power, which is very destructive. In lines six and nine "I think I know
enough of hate to say that for destruction ice is also great and would suffice". Saying that ice is a
metaphor to hate. The word hate is worldly known to have a negative condensation. Hate is also

Coast Jaguarundi is an extremely rare subspecies of the Jaguarundi family. This cat is mainly found
in certain parts of Northern America, in the Western Gulf coastal grasslands of southern United
States and Northwestern Mexico. This subspecies of Jaguarundi have a reddish or a charcoal gray
fur, short ears, and short legs. As a predatory cat, the Jaguarundi is a great swimmer and can also
climb very well. The Gulf Coast Jaguarundi eat fish they catch in rivers, as well as small mammals,
such as; rabbits and armadillos, or even jump and catch low flying birds. The International Union

This creature is also able to jump into the air to catch low flying birds, such as doves. The Gulf
Coast Jaguarundi often do their hunting in thorn scrubs. Although recently, due to habitat loss, they
have been venturing on to agricultural properties and pursuing domestic bird species. Females tend
to produce litters of anywhere from one to four kittens after an approximately seventy to seventy
five day gestation period. Kittens are born with spots that disappear as they age, similar to cats such
as cougars and lions. When kittens are around six weeks of age, they begin a diet of solid food.
Then, at the age of two to three years, they reach sexual maturity. Like most other animals, the Gulf
Coast Jaguarundi has a certain time of year in which mating occurs. For this species of wildcat,
mating usually takes place as early as November and as late as the end of

Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London.pdfAnalysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London

  • 1. Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London "To Build a Fire" by Jack London is set in the harsh landscape of the Yukon Wilderness where the sun does not shine for months and the temperature is continuously more than 50 degrees below zero. London introduces us to the main character whom he only calls "the man" and to his companion, a wolf–dog. The man is headed for an old claim on the left fork of Henderson Creek to meet the "boys". As they travel, the dog is aware of the brutal cold, however, the man is only aware of the cold when his spit crackles in the air. Yet, the man isn't concerned about the cold. The man continues traveling at about four miles per hour until, he reaches Henderson Creek and notices traps that hide pools of water under the snow. He takes care to avoid these traps by forcing his dog to travel ahead of him. At 12:30 p.m., the man arrives at the forks of the creeks and eats his lunch. In the act of trying to eat, he is astonished by the rate at which his fingers become numb from the cold. After the man makes a fire and has a smoke, he moves on. At a place where there were no signs of any trap beneath the ice, the man falls through and wets himself halfway to the knees. Knowing the danger of his predicament, the man quickly builds a fire to dry out his feet. Unknowingly, the man built his fire underneath a snow–covered tree and just as the fire is roaring to life, an avalanche of snow falls onto the fire putting it out. "The man was shocked. It was as though he had just heard his own sentence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Radical Vs Incremental Innovation : Banning The Cultural... Irine Surmanidze 09.11.2017 1 "Radical vs Incremental Innovation" Banning the Cultural stereotypes Introduction The objective of this paper is to examine two particular forms of innovation – "Radical" and "Incremental", find relevance and discrepancy in–between and observe an impact triggered by one or two particular forms of innovation. The first part of the paper further elaborates on radical and incremental forms of innovation, draws parallels and emphasizes Its impact on the nature of innovation. The second part of the paper introduces the case study when MA Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship students worked in classroom settings to ban one object/issue, to deal with the consequences and a gap between a product and a market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are number of definitions for these innovation forms, however many of them are putting an emphasis on the degree "to which an innovation represents a departure from existing practice" (Schilling, 2011:48). Radical innovation should present a new product, service, practice or solution that significantly differs from previous experience. It usually comes with higher risks as there is no prior knowledge and competencies are low (Schilling, 2011:vi). Introducing of a third–generation (3G) telephony could be a good illustration of a radical innovation. 3G was launched with an increased bandwidth that could not only transmit a voice but support more diverse multimedia applications (http://searchtelecom.techtarget.com). To switch from 2G to 3G the telecommunication service required significant investment in the development of relevant equipment and infrastructure, such as larger device display, memory, and battery capacity, etc. Besides, it was not quite clear how would customers react to this innovation. So, companies and their managers had to evaluate different risks simultaneously, including technical achievability, reliability, costs, and demand. Incremental innovation, on the other hand, does not need to be an exceptionally new or revolutionary. It can be the same product, service or process with simple adjustments or minor advancements (Munson and Pelz 1979). For example, the difference between two generations of iPhones – iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 – could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Impact Of Social Media On The Economy Of Silicon Valley Introduction For decades now Silicon Valley(a nickname for the San Francisco Bay southern region)has been the capital for major US technology firms and has become a thriving ecosystem for innovation. Household names in tech ranging from Apple to WhatsApp continue to drive innovations that improve or replace today's major industries and business practices. Although many start–up companies fail to gain traction or wide spread success, a handful of companies have risen to world– wide success and multi–billion dollar valuations at a pace never before seen in business history. The well–known social media company Facebook has built a value of over $245 Billion dollars(greater than the value of Wal–mart) and the car service phone application Uber has seized a notable share of the taxi cab market although neither company existed 12 years ago. These rapid innovations and general culture of innovation are overthrowing well–entrenched incumbents and revamping the structure of a diverse array of markets. Destructive innovation, however, is not a new concept. Technological advancement has been the cornerstone of growth for most economies and particularly for the United States for hundreds of years. The railroads seized the market that once belonged to horse drawn carriages and the digital camera brought an end to the dominance of the Polaroid camera. Disruptive innovation and growth lead to the reallocation of value amongst firms within any given sector and between the sectors of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. A Summary Of Traditional Religion In Society Butler uses traditional religion in the novel to demonstrate the ways in which it can be a destructive or constructive force in society. Butler demonstrates the dangers of dogmatic, authoritarian religion when it is used as an excuse to ignore the needs of others and the changes in society. Religion is not inherently a destructive force; it becomes a destructive force in Lauren's community when it is used to control and limit thinking because of deference to church leaders such as Lauren's father. There is no motivation to adapt or change. The religion in Lauren's neighborhood, led by her father, prevents its members from moving forward as they believe "in a literal acceptance of everything in the Bible" (Butler 23). The community's interpretation of the Bible does not help them adapt as society changes. By taking the Bible literally rather than using it as a guide for understanding the world around them, as an example of how to extend community to the people who have been ostracized, the community uses religion as an excuse to focus on themselves rather than focusing on others with further supports the neoliberalism in their society. • 9. New Methods Of Managing And Communication Introduction Things change. New products are invented. New markets are created. New jobs are shaped. New methods of managing and communication are established and there are new norms, values, and regulations. But then again, old products disappeared, old jobs died out, old markets vanished, and many other old things are gone nowadays. This is because of creative destruction, a term coined by Joseph Schumpeter (1942). It refers to the transformation of industry practices. However, transformation is not as easy as it may seem. There are many aspects that make such transformation very difficult to achieve. Uncertainty for the future for example, entrepreneurs might be hold back because the future state is unknown. Furthermore, there is inertia that lies in the psyche, which means that humans tend to resist things that are different and there is the fear of social sanctioning. Additionally, markets need to be ready for a change, ideas need to be legitimized and external developments play a significant role in realizing creative destruction as well. Entrepreneurs need to understand how to see beyond these barriers in order to create the foundation for radical change. In this essay all processes of creative destruction will be discussed and within every process the difficulties of transformation will be explained. Relevant examples, such as Jon Bannenberg's new superyacht design, will be used to underline the explanations. First, the term creative destruction will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Prisoner Of War Essay These fences with their isolation properties have me feeling more like a criminal in a Prisoner of War camp, held here for seeking a better, safer life with a better future for my girls. We've been here for months, a year, longer, I don't know. I have no way to know, no communication, no luxuries to make you feel at home, not even a calendar to cross of the days that come again and again but every day is the same. Is as prison like as I know. I brought my girls in hope for them to live a life free of corruption, control and guns. My girls remember little of the life we used to have, they have spent so long in this prison, these walls and bars is all they really know. Before we left Iraq, the rebel group of ISIS was clearing its way down through the country, forcing many people away from home and down into the major cities. They destroyed anything in their path and everything that had religious significance to many people. Their power crumbled bustling cities, small towns and helpless farming villages. We had a small farm in the hills to the east of the coast, with a lovely little herd of cattle, others had goats or chickens that would be shared out amongst the quiet village. Tornado was troubled as a young boy, with his father never home and his mother lying in her grave, he was depressed and lonely. He would go to school to find, his classmates either teasing, or harassing him and using him like a toy. His world started to slowly fall apart, and with Tornado being alone, he grew angry. Over the next few years of his childhood, his father left him alone with nobody to tell him wrong, and guide him. He was a lost puppy. When he became a young adult, he couldn't contain it anymore. He was a balloon, ready to pop. He had enough. Tornado started to thrash out on innocent citizens in his town. He no longer had emotions, except one; anger. One day, his blood was boiling and he was as red as a tomato. He stormed around the streets of Greece, knocking down everything in his path, creating destruction and lowering the citizens self–esteem. He was a ticking time–bomb. Citizens were screaming at him to stop what he is doing, but Tornado's anger deafened him. Nobody was able to calm him, and they knew that. So the citizens waited his tantrum out. This wasn't the first time this has happened, so they knew what to do. They all went in their houses, away from him, so he couldn't do harm to anyone. • 15. Social Media And Its Impact On Business Management For decades now Silicon Valley has been the capital for major US technology firms and has become a thriving ecosystem for innovation. Household names in tech ranging from Apple to WhatsApp continue to drive innovations that improve or replace today's major industries and business practices. Although many start–up companies fail to gain traction or widespread success, a handful of companies have risen to world–wide success and multi–billion dollar valuations at a pace never before seen in business history. The well–known social media company Facebook has built a value of over $245 Billion dollars and the car service phone application Uber has seized a notable share of the taxi cab market although neither company existed 12 years ago. These rapid innovations and a general culture of innovation are overthrowing well–entrenched incumbents and revamping the structure of a diverse array of markets. Large, successful firms that fail to adapt their products, business models, and strategies will inevitably decline at hands of small disruptive competitors. Destructive innovation, however, is not a new concept. Technological advancement has been the cornerstone of growth for most economies and particularly for the United States for hundreds of years. Disruptive innovation and growth leads to the reallocation of value amongst firms within any given sector and between the sectors of the greater economy. The first part of the paper further elaborates on radical and incremental forms of innovation, draws parallels and emphasizes Its impact on the nature of innovation. Radical innovation should present a new product, service, practice or solution that significantly differs from previous experience. It usually comes with higher risks as there is no prior knowledge and competences are low (Schilling, 2011:vi). Introducing of a third generation (3G) telephony could be a good illustration of a radical innovation. 3G was launched with an increased bandwidth that could not only transmit a voice, but support more diverse multimedia applications (http://searchtelecom.techtarget.com). To switch from 2G to 3G the telecommunication service required significant investment in development of relevant equipment and infrastructure, such as larger device display, memory and battery capacity, etc. Besides, it was not quite clear how would customers react to this innovation. So, companies and their managers, had to evaluate different risks simultaneously, including technical achievability, reliability, costs, and demand. Incremental innovation, on the other hand, does not need to be an exceptionally new or revolutionary. It can be the same product, service or process with simple adjustments or minor advancements (Munson and Pelz 1979). For example, difference between two generations of iPhones – iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 – could be considered as incremental while improving camera ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the essay "Our Animal Rites" by Anna Quindlen, she shows the inhumanity of animal hunting by human. From these examples, it can be shown that even though pesticide is beneficial, its deadly effects outweigh its benefits; in addition, it is a dangerous substances to the environment, organisms, and even human. Animal hunting is not only inhumane but can also lead to the extinction of many species. In the essay "Our Animal Rites", Quindlen asserts that it is "pathetic to consider the firepower" the hunters use in order to "bring down one fair–sized deer" (33). In this quote, she explains that the use of firepower by human to kill innocent animals is unfair and heartrending. Furthermore, Quindlen describes that even though the bears are killed by the "smiling" and triumphant hunters after the "three bear days in the autumn," the bears look "more dignified than they do" (33). This suggests that hunting animals is not entertaining but rather unacceptable and disgraceful. Furthermore, many species can become extinct due to excessive hunting. In an ecology class, I learned that the extinction rate of species each year is approximately two hundred to two thousand each year. This is an extremely high and alerting rate since there is only around two million species that has been scientifically identified on the planet. • 23. Causes Of Animal Extinction Across the world, animal extinction is a problem causing thousands of animals to die each year. Throughout time hundreds of animals are being slaughtered across the world. Some of the animals that we may know and love are slowly becoming extinct. Although it may not be animals such as our precious dogs or adorable kittens, there are animals in the world slowly declining in their population size. Animals such as rhinos, eagles, and different species of fish are becoming endangered and some are on the brink of extinction. Animal extinction is a problem that is gaining recognition across the world. The most known causes of animal extinction are habitat fragmentation, poaching, and deforestation. The first problem animals face is habitat fragmentation. Habitat fragmentation "is the process by which habitat loss results in the division of large, continuous habitats into smaller, more isolated remnants". This is a problem because it means that large groups of animals are losing their homes. This causes them to try and look for new homes for survival. This later causes a problem for animals that have a small chance for survival without a home. For some animals, their home is the most protective place for them. These animals may not possess many predatory traits for survival. Unfortunately this makes them an easy target for the animals that are big and dangerous. For the animals lucky enough to find a new home, they still have problems to face for survival. Animals choose their habitat based on their environment. For a habitat to be suitable, it has to fit the requirements for that animal. It should be close to a food source. It must be an appropriate size for that animal. As well as provide a secure location for the animal and its possible children. Once this habitat is destroyed, it is hard for an animal to find another home that it fits their essential needs. This means that it may take too long for that animal to find a new home which makes its chances of survival slim. This can be fixed by providing homes for those animals that no longer have one. Rescue centers are working hard to find animals that have lost their homes. Once they are found, the people nurture them back to a stable healthy state, and give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lord of the Flies depicts at first a group of boys trying to maintain order, and a later descent into savagery. One of the most direct, apparent examples of this is through Roger. Through the contrast of the self–restraint Roger has at the beginning of the novel and the murder he absentmindedly commits at the end, Golding illustrates how man's desire for savagery is restrained only by the enforced civilization of society. The self–restricted actions of Roger before savagery fully settles on the island are the result of the imposed order of everyday human life. Roger is playfully throwing stones at Henry, but does not allow any of them to hit his target. To show the importance and connection of Roger's actions, Golding writes, "Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to threw them. Yet there was a space around Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life" (Golding 62). Roger, throwing rocks at someone to begin with, has a desire to hurt people. The "taboo of old life", however, is able to completely restrict this desire from doing any harm, being "invisible yet strong" as well as making Roger unable to "dare" to throw a stone close to Henry. This language makes it seem as if Roger, having gone through the civilization of "old life", is forced to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The Pros And Cons Of Creative Destruction Joseph Schumpeter was one of the most famous author and economist in the 20th century. Among his numerous findings, one stands out; creative destruction. Creation refers to – disruptive – innovation on one side, while destruction alludes to the disappearance of some jobs, industries or even sectors on the other. A popular example is transportation. When combustion engines were invented, horse drawn–vehicles suddenly became out of age. On the short term, there was a lot of job destructions too. If there was no need for horse–drawn vehicles, all adjacent sectors were hit hard: horse breeders were probably left with less demand, horse–drawn vehicles companies began to lose their clientele. In creative destruction, neither does the creation part nor the destruction part happen overnight. Before being affordable to the masses and cause the economic disruption mentioned above, the auto industry had to undergo several incremental – as opposed to disruptive – changes. Eventually, fordism, which has been a cause of destructive creation as well, came along the way and created millions of jobs in the auto industry. When one looks at the jobs created directly, indirectly – with auto–part suppliers, auto–dealers – and thanks to new trade opportunities made possible by this new technology, it becomes obvious that if jobs losses can be painful, on the long run, benefits from creation overweight its drawbacks. Though the university's burgeoning squirrel population seems to indicate otherwise, species extinction is a grave problem in most parts of the world. • 36. Long Distance Movements Of Animals Introduction For most species, movement is essential for life. Movement of seeds helps plants disperse, while animals move to forage, reproduce, find alternate habitat types, repopulate areas where they have been extirpated, and maintain genetic diversity needed to adapt to change. If individuals cannot move across a landscape to mix with individuals of other populations, local extinctions can result. Additionally, the smaller a population is, the more vulnerable it is to extinction if that population is also isolated (i.e., lacks the ability to intermix with other populations (Fagan & Holmes 2006)). Juveniles are often especially important for movements that help maintain genetic diversity in populations (Rothermel & Semlitsch 2002). Long distance movements of animals can take one of two forms, migration or dispersal. Migratory movements consist of daily, seasonal, or even generational movements among habitat types while dispersal movements are movements away from a normal range, providing for the mixing of genetic materials, or the population of new habitats or repopulation of previously occupied but currently vacant habitats. When animals migrate, it is because there is a need for individuals in a population to move to a different habitat patch. These movements can be to reach a breeding site (Sinevro 2007, Webster et al. 2002), a more favorable climate (Peñuelas & Filella 2001), an overwintering area (Wilcove & Wikelski 2008), or better forage (Olson et al. 2006). ... Human beings alone are placing enough strain on animals to leave lasting and harmful effects for years to come. Due to the steadily growing population, individuals are turning untouched pieces of land into developmental projects to benefit humans. However, these sources of land are home to a multitude of species whom are now struggling to survive due to these changes to their habitat. Along with dismantling species environments, some individuals are also engaging in illegal wildlife trade in order to keep up with the growing demand for numerous types of products. In addition, deforestation is another activity humans participate in that negatively impacts animals environments to benefit their own. However, there are also numerous types of environmental activities that affect animals as well. Climate change and different types of pollution are proving to be harmful as well. Overall, unless action is taken to overcome the consequences animals currently face due to the harmful activities caused by humans and environmental factors, species will continue to fall victim to extinction. According to the UN, 200 species go extinct every day. In the US alone, more than 1 million animals are run over every day. These are just some the cruel realities that exist in our current state. It may be too late for some, but there is still time, still hope for others. We need to invest more in preventing animal cruelty before it's too late. We need to speak for those who don't have a voice of their own. First, animals that are used for our entertainment are inhumanely abused. When I was younger, I always dreamed of going to the circus. Seeing clowns and their funny acts, but most of all, I wanted to see the elephants do their amazing tricks. I never did get to go to the circus, but now I have lost all desire to. • 42. Causes Of Habitat Loss This world is filled with several natural areas and landscapes and not only are they extremely beautiful, they are also extremely useful to a variety of species. However, we humans have pushed the boundaries and started to replace those naturally made landscapes with what we desire most, want, and need. Habitats and ecosystems of all kinds: prairie landscapes, woodlands, and wetlands are disappearing by the minute. The more we humans exercise our ability to want and need, the more these habitats will be lost. For you to truly understand what habitat loss is, you need to know what a habitat is. A habitat is where a certain species lives, whether that be an animal or plant. Every species requires a necessary food and water source, along with shelter and territory space within that environment or habitat. They also need a variety of physical features such as trees, rocks, and lakes/ponds. Habitat loss is when that certain species' basic needs, such as food, water, shelter, and space are destroyed or altered, which can be caused by a number of things (Michael Evans). One of the primary causes for the loss of a species habitat are humans. Like I said before we humans need and want things and will exercise that action at any cost. More good and space is required as the world's population grows. The only way to get those things is by taking it. Unlike any other planet, the Earth has vast oceans with millions of small islands in them, green vegetation, huge landmasses, different topographies, like the mountains, ice caps and deserts, all of which present an amazing variety of color and texture. be the extremely cold Antarctica, where hardy microscopic beings thrive in ponds, tiny wingless insects live in patches of moss and lichen, and plants grow and flower yearly or the extremely warm desert of Sahara plants such as date palms and acacia put down long roots to reach life–sustaining water or often the seeds of flowering plants sprout quickly after a rain and complete their growing cycle and producing seeds in a matter of days, before the soil dries out, one can find some form of life other in almost every ecological niche on earth. From the outer layers of the atmosphere to the deep sea beds at the bottom of the oceans and from the coldest poles to the warmest equator, life thrives here. Till date, no convincingly true evidence of life has been found on any planet. [1] While the Earth has been around for 4.6 billion years and our ancestors have been around for about six million years, the modern form of humans is claimed to have evolved only about 200,000 years ago. The present civilization it is only about six thousand years old, and the industrialization era started in full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Implementation Of Characters And Platform Design Implementation characters &platform design Most of the detached body and platform elements were imported through asset store of Unity and the rest of them were found online, which saves lots of time for us in preparation phase. We designed totally three characters by splicing all the individual parts of the body then created 4 animations, running, jumping, standing and idly for each. The most important part when doing this is setting the layers and the hierarchical structure of parts of the body to be more lifelike according to the real physical model. Similarly, the animations of each character meet the needs of actions in game time. Figure 3 places the basic profile of characters we designed. Figure 3. Character profiles After the preparation of characters, the phase coms to the platform design. The main platform contains 5 main layers laying out the players, background, UI, front ground and tiles. With distinguished layers of the objects in scenes, we could use camera's culling mask to render objects or write special events for certain layers. For example, background layer is for the basic background of the platform while front ground is the front landscape up forward the players and tiles. There all the objects placed in the scenes are just for normal pass mode because the platform for this mode is fixed since the difficulty of each level should be increasing with certain level design. First, we edited the segment items and merged then into single object which can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the way the Webster dictionary defines obscene. How do you? Some say obscene is vulgar; others say the best way to describe obscene is through disgust. No matter how it is thought of, obscene material is everywhere in society. Television is becoming more liberal, magazines are less edited, and music is more abrasive. At some point, the public must put its foot down and demand censorship in order to keep decency in the world. This statement, and others like it, has been used as a hypothesis as to why the students opened fire killing 13 and wounding 23 at Columbine. The explicit lyrics have been thought to motivate teenagers into committing acts of violence. Take, for example, the lyrics from a band named Drowning Pool, "Push me again, this is the end, skin against skin, blood and bone, you're all by yourself, but you're not alone, you wanted in, now you're here, driven by hate consumed by fear, let the bodies hit the floor" (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/drowningpool/bodies.html). This song is titled Bodies and speaks out about committing murder because of alienation. All teenagers feel these feelings at some point while they are growing up. An Analysis Of Weisman 's The World Without Us The Power of Nature: Rhetorical Strategies in Weisman's The World Without Us: Unbuilding Our Homes In the book World Without Us, author Alan Weisman talks about what would happen to the natural and built environment we've established if humans suddenly disappeared. In Chapter two, Unbuilding Our Home, Weisman effectively informs his readers of the total control that nature has on our society by describing the immediate effect it takes on our own homes. He forces the readers to recognize that we coexist with nature yet nature has the upper hand on man–made objects. Weisman achieves this by targeting the reader's emotions through description and personification and by providing insight that appeals to the reader's intellect of the future. In Chapter 2, Weisman walks us meticulously through the steps that lead inevitably to the complete destruction of almost every single part of our houses. The first and last enemy is water. Water sneaks in at the weak points of roofs, near the chimney. Mold begins to grow on wet wood; under the mold, "threadlike filaments called hyphae are secreting enzymes that break cellulose and lignin down into fungi food." (page 16) The roof falls in. More water enters through the windows, some shattered when birds flew into them. The floor corrodes. Squirrels and lizards eat the drywall. Vinyl siding begins to crack as its plasticizers weaken. Even aluminum begins to break down, as salt eats it away. Steel gas pipes begin to rust away. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. The Cage Of Poverty In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier The Cage of Poverty In the short story "Marigolds", the author, Eugenia Collier, uses several key events throughout the short story to represent the unseen cage that the main character, Lizabeth, is trapped in, and ultimately breaks. The story is set in a shanty town, likely taking place during the Great Depression. Throughout the story, Lizabeth goes through a difficult stage in life, a stage in which she is in conflict about whether she wants to be a carefree, innocent child, or an educated, compassionate adult. The climax of the story, when Lizabeth tears and rips up Miss Lottie's marigolds, is such an emotional moment for Lizabeth that she finally completes her transition to adulthood, understands her endless cycle of poverty, and breaks the final bar of the cage. The author uses a seemingly endless cycle of poverty to emphasize the cage in which the characters are trapped. As Lizabeth muses over her childhood, she recalls the daily cycle of how "each morning our mother and father trudged wearily down the dirt road and around the bend, she to her domestic job, he to his daily unsuccessful quest for work." (1). Every morning began the same way, passed the same way, and ended the same way. Lizabeth feels trapped, forced to go through the same series of events for what seems to be the rest of her life, with the same people, in the same place. When the author pairs this with the "dusty" setting of the town and the time placement of the Great Depression, it creates an effect of hopelessness for the first part of the story. This is only furthered by Lizabeth continually returning to the idea that "Poverty was the cage in which we were all trapped." (1). Lizabeth opens the story by first giving a description of her hometown as "dusty", remembering the poverty and hopelessness. She then continues by referring to the cage of not having enough money, and the cycle that it put them through, and ends by alluding to her future being limited to her poverty. As the story progresses, so does Lizabeth. Having entered a difficult stage of her identity, Lizabeth is unsure of whether to be an innocent, carefree child, or to be a knowledgeable, aware adult. • 58. The Music Of Guns N ' Roses ' Guns N' Roses is a heavy metal band that helped the rise of heavy metal as the mainstream genre in the 1980's. Their music has a unique sound with influences from heavy metal and hair metal/glam metal periods. One song that illustrates both of these musical influences is the song "Welcome to the Jungle" on the album "Appetite for Destruction". The members of Guns N' Roses got their start as a band in Los Angeles, California. At the time of their band rising to fame, America was still in the transition of heavy metal becoming a mainstream genre again. Although metal was present throughout the 1980's it was not until the late 80's when it achieved mainstream success. The popular music genres at the time were hip–hop, electronic music, soft rock, alternative rock, and pop music. Country music was also a popular genre of music in the early 1980's but eventually got less popular. While Guns n' Roses were building up their popularity it took nearly a year to get the gigs they were looking for. In that year the odds were against the band. They had a hard time when it came to getting gigs because "... a series of frenzied, violent shows landed the Gunners on the shit list of everyone, including club owner, rival bands and the press – everyone but the fans, who grew in numbers with each passing gig," (Del, "Axl Rose: The Rolling Stone Interview"). Once they had a large fan base, Tom Zutaut noticed the bands popularity and decided to sign them to Geffen Records in 1986. Even though ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God Analysis "If I could, I'd trade it all. Trade it for a halo. And she said that she'll pray for me. I said, 'it's too late for me.'" These dark lyrics in the song, "Ordinary Life" by The Weeknd contradict the general Christian concept of forgiveness. Because The Weeknd feels he has strayed so far from God he believes he can not be forgiven, even though the Christian Church teaches that you can always repent your sins to God and be forgiven. This is similar to Jonathan Edwards views on God at the time because he opposed the idea of God being a loving savior, and said he was capable of mass destruction with his ultimate power. In the short story "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" Jonathan Edwards preaches that God is a powerful and dangerous leader of his people through his use of imagery of natural elements, such as water, fire, and weather. Although water is necessary for people to survive, in some cases it can be deadly. Edwards uses the imagery of water to show how God is powerful and can use water to destroy. When Edwards is telling about the rage god is holding back he describes it as, "If God should only withdraw his hand from the floodgate, it would immediately fly open, and the fiery floods of the fierceness and wrath of God, would rush forth with inconceivable fury, and would come upon you with dominant power"(Edwards 2). Edwards preaches that god is all powerful and warns that God can destroy the whole world whenever he sees fit to do so. God has the whole word in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Potential Spatial Structures Of Peregrine Falcon Populations In addition to the conservation benefits of recognizing that metapopulations have spatial structure, a number of important conservation risks arise when conservationists do not account for the various potential spatial structures of metapopulations. One of the risks of assuming homogenous spatial structure is that the models will produce falsely high numbers, as the actual population violates the assumptions of the model. Wootton and Bell (1992) highlight the importance of addressing spatial structures in their model of Peregrine Falcon populations, as the census data alone would predict a falsely healthy population. Additionally, management plans in populations might be terminated prematurely if conservationists do not understand and account for the dynamics of source and sink metapopulations, which may have fluctuating levels of colonization and extinction rates that are normal for the dynamics of the population (Wootton and Bell 1992). Kauffman et al. (2004) echo this finding, as they emphasize the importance of understanding habitat–specific demographic data instead of an overall population count alone, which might carry the assumption of homogenous spatial structure and lead to a misdiagnosis of a population. Another conservation risk of not accounting for spatial structure is that conservationists are likely to miss the connections between spatial structure and genetic structure, both of which play a major role in conservation. • 66. Technology And Technology Essay In this modern age, technological innovation inundates us. Nearly every person, regardless of income, has a cell phone, computer, and a car. The pace of innovation is so fast that some people believe the government should take a leadership role in its production. They fail to realize, however, that if the government were to assume control, progress would be tied up in red tape, and we would never know what innovations could improve our lives. The rapid growth of technology causes concerns about unemployment. Consequently, some petition the government to protect their jobs. Is this a wise decision? As John Stossel says in his TV special Tech Revolution, "Whenever there's been innovation, experts predict that employment will decline. But the experts can't imagine the new jobs." A well–known example of technological progress without government interference is Henry Ford's mass production of cars. He developed a system of conveyor belts that reduced the time it took to make cars from 12 hours to 2 hours and30 minutes. At first, not many people could transition from a carriage to an automobile. Yet, as more were produced, prices dropped, and more people could enjoy the benefits of faster, lower maintenance transportation. True, some people undoubtedly lost their jobs making carriages. They had to find new jobs, possibly at Henry Ford's factory. His system of conveyor belts led to the creation of the assembly line mode of production, an innovation that brought vastly greater ... • 68. Innovation Theory Of Creative Destruction The concept of innovation varies greatly on the point of view of the philosopher. Based on this idea of innovation, the understanding of what it means to create a new idea also transforms. However, in terms of dealing with people the perspectives may vary, but generally the struggles of innovation stem from similar ideologies. These thoughts ring true for Schumpeter and Kracauer in their very different concepts of innovation. Schumpeter, overarching concept of innovation centers around his theory of creative destruction, whereas Kracauer focuses on the power of boredom. For Schumpeter, innovation means completely restructuring desire of the individual. This does not mean reshaping, but rather revolutionizing what the consumer wants and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Innovation never ceases, it is a never ending process of change. To create a new idea involves developing something that completely transforms the status quo. Schumpeter coined the term, industrial mutation, or something, "that incessantly revolutionizes the economic structure from within, incessantly destroying the old one, incessantly creating a new one. This process of Creative Destruction is the essential fact about capitalism. It is what capitalism consists in and what every capitalist concern has got to live in." (Schumpeter, The Process of Creative Destruction, 83). In a capitalist society, as referenced in creative destruction, the creation of a new idea often means the destruction of and/or the replacement of a pre–existing belief, product, or understanding. Sometimes this is completely beneficial to all of society, but more often than not, there is some detriment, or the detriment of some. This group is usually those already marginalized most by the current system. In terms of Schumpeterian innovation, there are multiple obstacles or sources of resistance that have to be overcome. First off, there is whatever is being destroyed in the creative destruction. Take Uber for example. In an instant this startup company revolutionized the way that people look at transportation. People had never considered the ease and brilliance of an app that allowed you to summon a taxi in minutes. However, with this came a huge decline of the taxi industry: they ... "The Haunted Palace" by Poe and "Fire and Ice" by Frost, have various interpretations that can be used in regards to politics, physical Interaction, or philosophical meanings, but the main idea these poems use is towards the environment. These poems link the description of the environment to human experiences by adding certain elements such as, "Radiant palace–reared its ugly head" (4) and "But if it had to perish twice" (5) in order to hint the readers that the poem has a connection to human behavior. The quotes "I think I know enough of hate" (6), "To say that or destruction of ice" (7) and "Is also great" (8) is where the poet explains how cold feelings such as depression, cold–heartedness, and sadness are equally as great in destructive powers as fire. The feelings of emptiness people have, are what lead them to have an attitude of not showing concern or interest at specific things such as wars, stereotype issues, and personal problems. The last quote "And would suffice" (9) is the authors description of how ice could easily replace fire in terms of destroying the world. Journey to Destruction in Steinbeck's Flight and London's To Build a Fire Not many people have to face death in the cold wasteland of the Arctic or rugged mountains of California, but Pepe and "the man" do. Although the ironic destruction of Pepe and the man were caused by relentless forces of nature, their attitudes and reasons for going on their journeys differed. The setting in both stories consisted of extreme climate and conditions. In Flight the climate was desert hot during the day and chilling cold at night. Both of the men's attitudes lead to their destruction. Pepe was very lazy and immature. "All day you do foolish things with the knife, like a toy–baby," his mother stormed. "Big lazy, you must catch the horse and put on him thy father's saddle." Pepe also had a hot temper. During the travel to Monterey, Pepe had a little to drink and ended up killing a man. "There was wine to drink. Pepe drank wine. The little quarrel––the man started toward Pepe and then the knife––it went almost by itself. The man said names to me I could not allow." In the other story, the man's attitude problem was that he was too self–confident. He pushed himself to the limit which was farther than he could go. "But the temperature did not matter." He also didn't listen to the advice of others. "The man from Sulphur Creek had spoken the truth when telling how cold it sometimes got in the country," and used his knowledge to his best advantage. Extract Eighteen years ago in his masterpiece "The Competitive Advantage of Nations" Michael Porter developed a model to analyze the competitiveness and economic development of nations, regions, and cities, a model that is still a milestone in this field of enquiry. In this work I will try to show how that theory about competitiveness is related with some important aspects of economics of innovation, also in the light of the already visible effects of globalization. Introduction I will first explain the effects of globalization as Kotler identified them in the last edition of his best–seller; then I will briefly resume the main concepts of Porter's theory of competitiveness, showing two examples of how his national view of industrial ... I can easily say that in this real case all the four factors Porter presented are well developed and inserted in a coherent network: as I said before in my opinion the government had the greater responsibility in creating the best organizational conditions to allow these results but the presence of high–culture social classes with definitively high expectations was and is another important trigger of Swedish development. Also the creation of an efficient and high technological supply–chain that links forests cutting with paper industry and furniture production, together with the presence of consistent capitals and high rate of competitiveness played an important role. This is a nine–line poem: Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. From what I have tasted of desire, I hold those who favor ice. But if I had to parish twice, I think I know enough of hate To say that for destruction ice Is also great And would suffice. This is one of Robert Frost simplest poems. I was thinking that Frost wanted to basically put a question on our minds, If you had to choose a way to die would you choose fire or ice? In lines seven through nine, "To say that destruction ice is also great and would suffice". To me this is saying you would have to choose the lesser of the two evils. Weighting the pros and cons of the two. Asking which one is better for you, a cold slow death or a hot slow death. But in the end of the poem Frost is saying the no matter which one he picks they are both going to give you the same results, death. To analyze the poem better I took each word as if it symbolized a certain characteristic. In lines three and four, "From what I've tasted of desire I hold those who favor fire" it led me to believe that Frost was trying to use desire as a metaphor to fire. Desire, can usually be used a negative or a positive manner depending on the context it's use. In the poem I think that Frost is using it in a negative sense, because he is uses words like end, perish, and destruction in the poem. Negatively the word desire can mean the drive to win or receive something at any cost, the urge for power, which is very destructive.
