1. Audience Profile – Genre: Rock / Punk Rock
Target Audience:
Gender and Age (Hartley’s 7 Subjectivities)
and why
The denotation of the target audience for my new Rock magazine
is going to be aged 15-30 (Hartley) and from the male gender
because this is the stereotypical gender that listens to the Rock
gender. I will appeal to this target audience by including
promotional strategies on my front cover, for example a chance to
win tickets to a rock festival as this is stereotypically a male thing to
do. I believe my magazine appeals mostly to the male gender as
men are stereotypically seen to listen to rock music. I could also
appeal to the female genre by including pictures of male models
and also promotions for shops as this is stereotypically what
women like to see in a magazine.
Socio-Economic Needs and why:
I believe that my magazine will appeal to those in the E, D and C2
category as they are stereotypically not going to be doing a lot of
work so therefore are going to want to past the time by reading
magazines.
Katz’ Uses & Gratifications Theory and
Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
Using Katz’ Uses & Gratifications theory the audience will be
‘informed and educated’ about the artists featured in the
magazine. Using Maslow's Hierarchy of needs the audience get
esteem from reading the magazine as they can respect others from
what they read and be respected by reading the magazine.
Stereotype(s):
Dark clothes, skinny jeans, likes to go to festivals/parties, shops at
H&M, Topman, Superdry, etc.
