Assure Method
Wednesday: Gettysburg Address and Emancipation Proclamation
A- Teaching about Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and Emancipation Proclamation to 22,
5th grade students. The students range from 10 to 11 years in age. The class is comprised of 13
girls, 9 boys, 2 ADHD children, 7 African Americans, 5 Hispanics, and 8 Caucasians.
S- The 5thgrade students will know in depth about Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and
Emancipation Proclamation by the end of the day with 100% accuracy.They will be constantly
assessed on their knowledge of the famous speech and act through the various materials listed
below.
S- The materials they will use to ensure their success will be two Web Quests and a Storytelling
YouTube video.
U- There are two Web Quests the first is a follow up from Tuesday on some of Abraham
Lincoln’s accomplishments throughout the Civil War. The second Web Quest is for students to
learn about Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation through interaction online. The
Storytelling YouTube video will be played during class for the students to watch and listen to the
speech being given. The video was made to catch the student’s attention by playing the
Ghostbusters Theme song. The students will listen to the speech given and then we will go
through the written copy of the speech and I will explain the meaning behind what Abraham
Lincoln was saying.
R- The students will interact with the Web Quests and complete the tasks given to them after
reviewing the information. Then the students will interact with me after watching the Storytelling
YouTube video.
2. E- The 5th grade class will be assessed throughout the day based off of their answers to the
questions on the Web Quests.The final evaluation of this information will occur at the end of the
week once they complete their final project.
