The Benefit Of The Internet
The Internet is a revolutionary tool that people utilize on a daily basis. People can easily research
and communicate on the Internet efficiently and effectively. The efficiency and accessibility of the
Internet improves learning in classrooms and communication. It allows people to communicate with
others around the world. The Internet can be useful in the classroom by allowing students to learn
comfortably, learn at their own pace, express their creativity in different mediums for projects, and
access an infinite amount of information at their fingertips. This useful tool is used by all people
such as students conducting research, people living abroad or in the military, and businessmen or
women. People may argue that the Internet is dangerous or untrustworthy, but I argue that the
Internet improves communications, learning, and overall quality of life.
First, the Internet is one of the best ways to connect to people all around the world. It is used
internationally, therefore, anyone can easily communicate to a friend or family member that is ten
thousand miles away. This allows people with access to the Internet learn about different cultures
and connect with people across the nation or across the globe. By communicating on the Internet,
anybody can have a meeting, or from personal experience, be tutored, or have a casual conversation.
The Internet allows beings to be aware and considerate of people from different backgrounds, social
classes,

Engineering Design Process
Engineering Design Process Flight decks on planes are a complex series of buttons, switches, knobs
and lights. But pilots use each of these controls to operate a different piece of equipment and
navigate the plane safely. How do engineers design the flight deck so it works most efficiently for a
pilot? Its questions like that which must be asked and successfully answered for a piece of
equipment to be functional and successful in a plane. Kirschen Seah is a systems engineer for a
commercial avionics electronics company. She works closely with other engineers in her company,
as well as with customers to imagine, design and evaluate new flight deck controls. Understanding

The designer starts making a rough model by using simple things like clay and ping–pong balls.
Keeping the materials and design simple and flexible allows the designer to easily experiment with
and change the prototype. A prototype is the first working draft of a piece of equipment. Once the
designer is satisfied with the shape, they make a drawing of the controller on a computer. Using the
computer allows the team to change the components shape and move the knobs and switches around
easily. Once they have an initial
concept drawn up for the controller, they can "print" a three–dimensional copy of the controller
using a special device called a stereolithography printer. This lets them handle the controller and
check out the feel and position of the buttons, knobs and trackball. If they want to change their
position it is still easy to do at this phase. If this all goes well, they are ready for testing. Kirschen
helps with the projects by providing hardware and software, which simulate an aircraft flight deck.
This mockup allows designers to test out new designs. Here designers can evaluate their projects in
a dynamic flight simulation and make sure they work correctly and are easy for the pilots to use.
Once the component has successfully passed on the requirements it is ready for delivery to the
client. How Can You Think Like and Engineer Engineering and science are largely about using a

Silence Of The Lambs
The opening sequence of Clarice Starling frantically jogging through the labyrinth–like foggy forest
in director Jonathan Demme's The Silence of the Lambs (1991), sets the visual design standard for
the rest of the thrilling film. The visual design of a movie is comprised of the contents of the frame
and how they are used to enhance the viewing experience for the audience. There exists a multitude
of visual design elements, each one playing a major role in every motion picture. Visual design
elements affect the mood and atmosphere in a film. The mood of a film is the emotion that is evoked
when viewing a movie, whereas the atmosphere is external, the physical, sensory qualities of the
film. Throughout the duration of the 138–minute masterpiece, ... Show more content on

The set design in The Silence of the Lambs also adds to the disturbing mood of the overall film. As
aforementioned, when visiting Lector at the prison, Starling has to walk past an abundance of cells,
almost as if she is descending into more and more evil, deeper into the depths of Hell. When
Starling finally arrives at her destination, she sees Lecter behind a thick pane of glass, rather than
the standard steel bars of the other prisoners. This distinct choice in set design is made to convince
the audience that they should be scared and unsettled for future encounters with Lector. Since the set
designers placed Lecter behind maximum security glass, he is no ordinary bad–guy, but a smart
mastermind and a brilliant criminal who needs to be treated with extreme

Personal Narrative Essay : What I Did This Summer
What I did this summer. That`s a good question to be honest, I did a lot of things that were
considered fun for me, like shopping, hanging out with my family, hanging out with my friends,
going to the beach, the water park and much more. But I will only break it down to two or three of
my favorite things I did this Summer, so stick around to see what my favorite things about this
Summer were. Like I said in my introduction, this paragraph will be about when I went shopping
multiple times with my family. I know it might sound dumb for a first paragraph but, too me it was
awesome. That's because, I love spending time with my family, especially when we're all getting
along. Let me break down this day for you. First it was a good morning, my mom made me
breakfast and everyone was in a good mood. My Brother was happy, my Dad was being hilarious,
and my Mom just seemed like she was having a great time. Then we all got dressed, I was making
sure that I looked extra stunning. So we get into the car and my favorite song comes on "Despacito"
so my family and I all started singing it together. About an hour later we get to the South lake Mall
and we went to four stores, Hollister, Vans, Journeys, and American Eagle. My Mom, Brother, and I
all went to those four stores while my Dad went shopping somewhere else. It was going well , we
were all having a fantastic time together. Then once we were done shopping we went to McDonald's
got some food because, who doesn't adore McDonald`s right? Then we headed back home, it was a
great day and for sure one of my favorite memories from this Summer. Keep in mind my family and
I did this like 2 or 3 times this year, so it was extra fun. My second paragraph will be about when I
went to Deep River Water–park with my friends, Eliot Cates, Ben Herz, Adam Collard, Cole
Watson, and Alden Cates. It was honestly such a great time especially because, I was with my close
friends. We went there for Eliot`s birthday. I was so excited when my Mom showed me the text
saying I got invited, I got all my snacks, clothes, and towels ready, days before it was actually time
for the "party". We were supposed to go on Wednesday, in July. So I get all ready and we head off
for Eliot`s house, everyone

The Importance Of Security In School Security
Identification and exploration of need
I aim to design a simple system to implement into the schools existing security as at the moment it
is very easy for people to enter and exit the school both in and out of school hours. Also with
incidents involving the school poorly set up security system makes more of a need for an update the
current one.Although it is a bad thing be so open it also does have the benefit of allowing staff and
students to leave when allowed but also allowing them to leave without permission.Having a stricter
system may slow down the process of people exiting and entering the school legitimately
Areas of investigation
Areas i believe need to be investigated–
How often staff or students leave the school with permission within school hours ?
Is it a danger not having it ?
Consideration of design factors
Criteria to evaluate success
The success of this design will be assessed from the function and ergonomics of this design as it
needs to function and solve the problem of the lack of security currently, yet whilst stricting the
security make sure people that are trying to leave and enter the school properly can do so.Meaning
that the system will be deemed successful if it is aesthetically pleasing and welcoming to students
and and the community yet have a distinct look that will deter unwanted people. Also it will need to
perform the the task of keeping people inside the school safe and the schools property safe as well

Equine Center Design
Throughout the entire design process of the Phoenix Center, Studio 6 has designed along the lines of
incorporating the concept of split yet connected. Each structure works as a whole to meet the
functions mentioned in the program, but in certain areas, the overall structure splits to form separate
spaces. The equine center, clinic, treehouse, cabin, bathhouse, as well as the pavilion all have a
sense of separate yet connected to allow for a sense of continuity throughout the site's design. At the
beginning of the design process for the equine center, we went with a more noticeable split yet
connected element. As the design process evolved and changes were made, the separation of the
elements gradually decreased. Each design still emphasized ... Show more content on

The connection of the arena and the round pin to the barn, was a challenge we encountered. After
doing research, we came together and decided to incorporate a colorful walkway that compliments
the aesthetics as well as making the building more appealing to the clients. While the equine center
has the colorful walkway, the clinic and the bath house have a louver system along the exterior
facade. This louver system will allow the clients to interact with the building, as well as being in
control of the environment that is around them. The thought of physically being able to move the
louvers grants the client the option to leave their mark on the building. The design of the clinic is
three separate parts that all connect at the corners. This design is connected together at the center
with an interactive outdoor corridor. Underneath the overhang for the outdoor corridor are stepping
stones that have the option for children to have their own specific stepping stones that are different
from an adults. On the clinic, Studio 6 incorporated a sense of biophilia by using a small creek,
flowing from the exterior of the structure into the courtyard. This small element brings an overall
relaxing sense to the clients and increases one's chance of overcoming the trauma they have been
through. Along with the creek, we emphasized on the

The Task was to design an irrigation system, since the football field needed a new one. Then
determine the best route for the water pipes The areas of the field the sprinkler waters, the location
of sprinklers, and how much of the field the sprinkler waters. The whole field has to be covered and
not overwatered. Adobe illustrator was used to create a scale design for the system that the students
selected, layers had to be included to represent the different parts of the irrigation system. The cost of
the materials for the system also had to be determined. The design process was set up like this, the
angle of the sprinklers was 360 degrees. The radius of each sprinkler is 40 feet. The number of
sprinklers was determined on how the sprinklers were positioned. How the placement of the
sprinklers were determine was the head to head range .How the placement of piping was determined

Essay on The ReMotion Prosthetic Knee
The ReMotion Prosthetic Knee
ReMotion is a project created by D–Rev (Design Revolution), a not for profit organization working
in third world countries, which creates and supplies prosthetic knees to amputees living on under $4
a day (Krista Donaldson, 2013). One of the company's major constraints when designing the knee
revolved around creating a product that performed at a standard equivalent to the high end
prosthetic knees, but at a cost that was affordable and allowed for mass production. The project has
been running since 2009 (Krista Donaldson, 2013) and over five and a half thousand amputees have
since been fitted with the ReMotion knee, with the third version being made publicly available mid

It can also involve making sketches of a product, recording data, computing that data to ensure it
matches with specifications, analyzing results and writing reports. Designing products is additional
part of the specific engineering discipline. This however is likely to a small component compared to
the testing and eliminating of production problems aspect.
Major decisions would have to be decided on and resolved throughout the process of designing and
implementing the knee. Part of D–Rev's design ideal revolved around creating a high–end prosthetic
knee that could be produced at a lower cost. Previous cheap alternatives for prosthetic joints and
limbs greatly traded efficiency for a lower cost. While D–Rev would have aimed to avoid this trade–
off between quality and cost, it is likely to remain imbalanced. Of course, the quality could have
been lifted to a higher standard, but the cost would have been raised too, thus defeating their
purpose of making a quality and cheap product.
Another major decision revolved around maintaining quality with a simplistic design. By keeping
everything straightforward, it allows for easy fitting and repairing of the joints without extensive
training. While this may decrease the quality, it increases the practically as it takes lower
qualifications to fit the product to the amputee and can easily occur in their home country. The

Collaboration Within Systems Of Our Physical Environment
COLLABORATION WITHIN SYSTEMS OF OUR PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT We are all part
of an interlinking system, a system that needs balance with humanity and nature at the forefront. As
Designers it is important that we take self interest out of design and instead collaborate within our
physical environment and make sure that from the get go, our designs should work around a
collaborative system that has a wide breadth of professional fields and influence from existing
infrastructures found within our world. Victor Papernak writes "eighty percent of the environmental
impact of the products, services, infastructures around us is determined at the design stage." I have
chosen to explore collaborations within the natural world, our industrial ecology and social design
as examples of how important working together with other professionals and the environment we
live in are for the bigger picture. In Victor Papernak's book Design for the real world, Papernak uses
an anecdote to stress the importance of collaboration for successful design. " several years ago a
new low–cost plough was designed, built, and distributed in areas of southeast asia that commonly
use a forked stick weighted down by a rock to till the soil. After a few years it was discovered that
the ploughs were not in use–they were rusting away. In the religious beliefs of the inhabitants, metal
makes the soil sick...a cross–disciplinary design team, including anthropologists, engineers,
biologists, and physiologists, would have

Laboratory Design Dq
For this task I am analysing why a good laboratory design is important for efficiency and
effectiveness. The main aim of an effective lab design is to create space which reduces the traffic
flow and allows the technicians to move around the lab in a suitable way. Good lab designs will also
improve the environment in the lab. An effective design allows space for cleaning systems and
processes such as ducting. I will have a ducting system coming from the fume hoods, through the
cooling system and out of the laboratory. I will include this here because it is the shortest possible
way of making an exit for the system. Having a tidy and efficient lab makes the work easier for the

This makes the staff able to perform more tasks, making the lab and the amount of work more
efficient. There will be chemicals used to dilute different solutions in my lab which may perhaps be
toxic or hazardous. I have included special facility storage in my lab which ensures safety and
protection for the staff. To make the lab more efficient, I have placed rooms in areas in terms of
logic so it makes the work easier to do and avoids contaminating anything by trailing samples
through the lab. If I was to have a poor design, this would make the lab dangerous as dangerous
chemicals could be leaked over other samples and potentially the technicians if they aren't wearing
the appropriate clothing. I have also included an open space area in order to allow more tasks to be
performed, meaning more tasks get completed and is therefore more efficient. All around my lab I
have included fire exits, which further more protects the staff and gives them a sense of comfort
knowing that there is a nearby escape route from wherever they are working. I have also added other
safety features such as eye wash stations and protective

Inclusive or Universal Disign
What is inclusive design and to what extent are we as interior designers and architects successful at
designing these spaces? Inclusive or universal design is the design of a product or a service to
accommodate as large a percentage of the population as possible, including but not limited to, those
with disabilities. It aims to remove the barriers in products and services that create undue separation
and enables everyone to participate equally with ease and confidence. This does not end at
ergonomics and anthropometrics, inclusive design includes signage, lighting, material choices and
colour contrasts. By designing a space inclusively, it can be used with confidence and comfort by
people with disabilities, both physical and mental, the elderly and people with young children. Any
frustration or caution can be overcome by inclusive design. At some point in their life everyone will
experience a moment of limited mobility whether it's dragging a large suitcase around at an airport,
pushing a pram or using a wheelchair. It is important that these issues are thought through and
addressed early on in the design process. This means, where possible, designing inclusively from the
very outset of the design process, and where not possible, adapting existing spaces as best we can.
This demand began in the 1990s in response to a growing awareness of the ageing population and
an aspiration by people with disabilities to be included in the use of mainstream spaces. This

Reflection : My Chorus As The Chorus In The Middle School
Going into this class, I was not expecting to learn much or enjoy it very much. I expected it to be
like chorus was in middle school when we lip sang and messed around all class. I chose chorus as
my music credit because I didn't expect that I would be so nervous going into the concert. I thought
that I would just cruise through the concert and not have to sing at all. Shortly into the semester, I
realized that this class was for real. I started to learn about all of the singing techniques that I was
never taught about and I began to enjoy singing. As I improved and the year progressed, I was not
bothered by the amount of effort that we had to put in every single white day. I was ready to come in
and work on our songs to perfect them for the upcoming concert. After seeing how I was actually
singing now and enjoying it, I began to get nervous for the concert. I was nervous because I was
now going to showcase what I have been working on for months.
Going into the first rehearsal at the church, I didn't know what to expect. I was curious to see what
would happen when we started to sing in that huge church. I was also curious to see what it would
feel like to be facing the crowd instead of being a part of it. For the past three years, I have gone to

Personal Statement : Physical Design Engineering
While growing up, many adults would ask me, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I did
not know how to respond to them back then and I still do not know but now I know some qualities I
would prefer in a career. I desire a career I truly enjoy, not one based off of pay. Having a career
where I follow instructions will be ideal. Despite following instructions, others must acknowledge
and consider my ideas. However, the most important aspect of a career to me is to improve the
quality of life of the community. It is vital to start exploring careers now to make a good lifelong
decision. A career that both intrigues me and has qualities I desire is physical design engineering. A
physical design engineer is responsible for building a portion of a computer chip. The engineer's job
revolves around placing and routing components of a chip. During the placement portion of the
building of a chip, the engineering team must figure out the most effective way to place the
components of a chip and properly route the wires into the proper locations. After an engineer
properly routes the wires, a physical design engineer transforms the design into a blueprint.
Blueprints are essential to the development of a chip. Without blueprints, the cost of producing a
finalized chip would be much higher. A physical design engineer is must interact with other
engineering teams to propose designs and solve problems. Interacting with other engineering teams

The Pont Du Gard In Nimes From 20-16 BCE, And The Pantheon
Roman Architecture has always been embraced deeply due to the simplicity and the aesthetic
sensation it communicates. However, the actual reason it is truly recognized, is by its very
structured and functional design methodology. The idea of design methodology can be broken down
into many aspects. These aspects include ideas such as, materials used (brick and concrete), design
concepts, design techniques (arches, vaults, domes) and how each design satisfies its intended
purpose and large exterior and interior spaces. There are many important Roman designs, but the
two designs that demonstrate the Roman design methodology is the Pont du Gard in Nimes from
20–16 BCE and The Pantheon from 125 A.D.

In the Pantheon, the primary materials used in the Pantheon include brick, granite, concrete,
volcanic rock. The importance of concrete in this designed is it helped create the so famous dome in
the Pantheon. (Encyclopedia Britannica). The dome has a circular oculus in the middle which emits
light. The heavy dome is held by concrete foundations and is made of concrete which demonstrates
how they mastered concrete so greatly. According to (Encyclopedia Britannica), the dome measures
about 142 feet in diameter and has a rising height of 71 feet above its base. (The dome also is said to
have a brick faced walls inside the design for support. The design also has arches and vaults that
serve as a structural load. The arches are laid around the dome in a manner that acts as compression
to the dome. This design technique of using arches as support for domes is very crucial to
understanding why the Romans could have such heavy structures. The vaults also served as a crucial
aspect in this design because vaults are a series of arches that create a structural load. The arches
helped created compression between the domes and the vaults which were in the bottom of the
pantheon help create compression with the arches making the dome very strong. Understanding the

Methods Of Design For Social Capital
Methods of Design for Social Capital Social capital in collaborative economy intermediaries is
incorporated by design. This section outlines some of the available methods for designing for
inclusivity. Much of the existing research around designing for trust online focuses on increasing
users' trust. Researchers Riegelsberger, Sasse, and McCarthy (2005) instead decided to design a
framework focusing on factors that lead the "trusted actor" (service provider) to act in a trustworthy
manner. The design heuristics include stable identity, traceability/accountability, group membership,

This is the most common way to establish trust in the collaborative economy. A complaint of these
reputation systems is the accuracy of reviews given and the tendency to only provide extremely
satisfied or extremely unsatisfied reviews. Some platforms are aware of this and incorporate
mechanisms to encourage accurate, average reviews. For example, Airbnb added a feature in 2014
to reveal host and guest reviews simultaneously to make both parties feel comfortable in leaving
honest reviews without the worry of a dishonest retaliatory review. The ATB gig site will not only
reveal reviews simultaneously, it will have a template for constructive feedback. The template will
ask for a rating and/or review of specific behaviours, such as adhering to the terms of the agreement.
Both parties, in advance of the gig, will negotiate the agreement to facilitate clear communication
and expectations. Rare and used mostly in online gaming, hybrid trust models use both network
structure and interactions to compute trust. In this model, interacting users exchange friend lists that
are saved as a friendship graph. The more frequent the interactions and the longer their duration, the
higher the trust value. This is an infrequently used trust model. This model may be considered for a
future iteration of the site, but only for ATB employees to identify service providers who would be a
good fit for a permanent role with ATB.

Personal Narrative-Duty Gambling
It was in the late November and I was heading over to my friends house around 6 PM to go to a
sleepover at my best friend Anthony's house. My dad said "don't sneak out tonight or anything like
that." So I nodded my head yes because he was my dad. When I got out my other friends Drew,
Griffin, Bryan all said hi to me than we continued to go into the house to play some video games
and we always have call of duty tournaments to see who is the best one. Than I won the call of duty
tournament than we went to the movies around 7 than I remember it was a cheesy scary movie that
wasn't that good but we messed around in it like ignorant the ignorant kids we were. So we got
home around 9. Than we just played a couple of games of hide and seek in the pitch black house and
all scared each other so bad. At one point in the game my friend griffin jumped out of the closest
with a clown mask and i just about had a heart attack. By the time we were done in the house and
the parents were dead asleep it was about 2 in the morning. We were all super bored than Anthony
had a "great idea" and said "Let's go ding dong ditching" so we all agreed because none of us have
ever snuck out before so we were pretty excited. We went outside and it's was darker than usual
because Anthony's street lights were off and it felt like the perfect ... Show more content on

Enhancing The Benefits For The Selected Ewb Project,...
Enhancing the benefits for the selected EWB project, understanding systems The design: The design
area chosen is aimed at providing the health clinics and posts with a more efficient water supply.
Their current supply is collected through operating generators which were installed to pump the
bored water into tanks close to the health clinic. However, the generators only run for a few hours a
day due to insufficient funds for diesel. During the time the generators are not running the staff have
to walk to the closest borehole to collect the water for use (Engineers Without Border, 2016). This is
where the design could be integrated into the community. Implementing solar, and wind boring

It will discuss any potential beneficial or adverse impacts of this design strategy on the other
projects. It will comment on how they can be avoided or mitigated in the case of the negative, and
enhance them in the case of the positive. Finally, the report will adopt a holistic view and discuss the
contribution of the selected project to the overall EWB Challenge. Relationships and linkages
between this and other projects: There are five design areas that would easily link into this design
project. The first is a low cost iron filter (Engineers Without Borders Australia, 2014). A low cost
iron filter would easily integrate into our design and the benefits would be vast. The water would be
safer and healthier for the people of Mayukwayukwa to drink and it would also extend the life of
each system as there would be less iron in the equipment. The second linked project is hand washing
(Engineers Without Borders Australia, 2014). As the water is stored in a number of tanks, this
allows for easy installation of taps all around to base of the tank. These allow for easy water
collection and also allow for hand washing with clean water. The third linked project is energy
(Engineers Without Borders Australia, 2014). These systems can easily be converted in to clean
energy providers. All that is needed is a battery pack for the solar and a generator and battery pack
for the wind. The fourth linked project is health (Engineers Without Borders

Murmuring the words, I immediately look from place to place at the scene before me, entirely awe

beautiful clear sky ever seen by human eyes. I lift my hand to move some hair from my face only to
stop dead in my tracks. Attempting to jump around like a little schoolchild before realizing the

seconds before would I not have fallen on my butt. Shuddering in "pain," I find myself becoming
more excited than before once seeing my legs sprawled on the ground.

Business Competition in the Current Environment
In the design thinking – customer is really important. Every innovation comes from observing the
customers, deep insight about their behaviour could be crucial. So first of all in the companies the
consumer has to be the heart of the organisation. Secondly, the interactions and communication with
the real clients are needed to get to this third point. Thirdly, understanding the customers' behaviour,
they are never wrong or right, everything is really meaningful. It is because all those experiences are
allowing us to have deeper understanding of their motivations and needs. With all this useful
information it is possible to come up with all kinds of fascinating insights. Those insights can help
to produce products or services which will help to improve customers' lives. To enable businesses to
start adding value and to achieve customer centred innovations and the great way to do that would
be design thinking. It will help to discover consumers' indirect and underlying needs and turn them
into demand. To begin with, we can see that it makes sense to do everything from customer–centred
perspective because it allows us to exploit the assets that the companies already possess. For
example: large customer base, brands which are trusted and recognised, support systems and
customer services, extensive distribution and supply chain. So the large companies are better
positioned to look for innovations from within their markets. I read Tim Brown's book "Change by

Inquiry Questions
What is design? A design is a plan or a sketch produced to show the function or the workings of a
specific space which are made before constructing or applying the product. (Farlex)
What are the elements and principles of design?
The elements of design
1. Line: A line is a recognizable path created by a point moving in space. Lines are one–dimensional
that differ and contrasts in length, width and dimension. Lines every so often describe and outline
the edges of a method or a form. A line can be diagonal, horizontal or vertical. (Paul)
2. Shape: A shape is an independent clear area of geometric (ex: circles and squares), creating a
positive space using a shape will lead directly to a negative space. (LOVETT)

Color – Color is the light reproduced and replicated off objects. It has three main features: type or its
name (red, green, blue, etc.), value (dark or light), and strength (dull or bright). (Elements and

The principles of design
Balance – Balance is the visual and graphical equality between all the elements of design. It
provides and offers stability, steadiness and structure to a design. (LOVETT)
Proximity – Proximity generates and creates the relationship between elements. It provides a
principal point. Proximity means that the elements of design should be visually connected and
linked in some way. (Paul)
Alignment– Alignment allows the creation of organization and order. Aligning elements allows
them to create a visual connection with each other.
REPETITION – Repetition strengthens a design by tying together individual elements. It helps to
create association and consistency. Repetition can create rhythm (a feeling of organized movement).
CONTRAST – Contrast is the juxtaposition of opposing elements (opposite colours on the colour
wheel, or value light / dark, or direction – horizontal / vertical). Contrast allows us to emphasize or

Pierre Chareau
Pierre Chareau and his works Pierre Chareau rose from Bordeaux, a humble beginning to rise to
become one of the most sought after designers in both France and the rest of the world. He balanced
the opulence of traditional French decorations with interior designs in his elegant furniture in a way
that remains in sync with modern life. Chareau was a Secular Jew, born in Paris, France. He studied
at the Beaux–Arts school. Extraordinarily, rare woods and exotic materials that blended to create
clean profiles of movable parts that appeal to the sensibility of progressive art characterize his
furniture. Chareau is celebrated most for the legendary Maison de Verre collaboration in 1932. It
was the first house made of steel and glass and thus an evolution of modern architecture. Those who
know about his work celebrate him as a father of modernity, however, he tremendously failed in a
number of things for instance, the exam at Ecole Des Beaus in Paris leading him to take a job as an
apprentice for a British furniture manufacture in Paris. Eventually he rose to become a designer. In
the mid 1920s, he opened his first two shops, one for cushion sales and the other to sell furniture
and lighting. He continued designing his own works until he was called upon by Dr. Jean Dalsace to
build the glass house (Cohen 854). In addition, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

exhibition at the Jewish Museum. Most assume that his best works were his furniture designs, by
combining materials such as glass and metal, but he also was gifted in his work of interiors. By

Why Design Can Not Remain Exclusive The Writers
Since the NSFNet was decommissioned in the early 1990's and restrictions on commercial traffic
was removed, (Costello,2016) we have seen the individual empowered to a point where they can
compete with the tradition, media, retail and content outlets.(Abel, 2011) 'Right now, with social
networks and other tools on the Internet, all of these 500 million people have a way to say what they
're thinking and have their voice be heard.' (Heussner, 2016) With this technological advancement,
the individual has been emancipated from total reliance on the publishers, record labels and
retailers. Any individual with access to the internet, can share their work and has the opportunity to

In the book Open Design Now: Why Design Cannot Remain Exclusive, Open design is defined as,
''distributed manufacturing' processes that emphasise the use–related capabilities of openness'. (Van
Abel, Evers, and Klaassen, 2014) Through information technology, digital manufacturing uses a
network of collaborative facilities that enable manufacturing to be sourced locally. We no longer
have to be restricted to using a single factory or distributor (Liu, Wang, and Wei, 2009). This
method compared to traditional low cost labour options, is more economically sound. In an Article,
'The Rise of Distributed Manufacturing and 7 advantages over Traditional
Manufacturing'(Robinson,2014), writer Adam Robinson gives two examples of an imaginary
company that goes through the traditional means of manufacturing and distributed manufacturing.
In the traditional example a company must source cheap labourers for the production of their
product. when the product is made they are sent via shipping containers, emitting fuels and taking
additional time from the transportation process. If the product were to undergo a distributed
manufacturing process then the company would locally source experts, there would be a higher
labour cost for the design process but the additional costs would be proportionate to the time and
expense saved in the transport costs involved in the Traditional method.(Robinson,2014) So what

Effective And Efficiency Related Criteria Construction Essay
Effective and efficiency Related Criteria Construction The overall purpose of thesis as we mention
in the beginning of this chapter is to select the appropriate multi–project strategy design, more
specific objective for selecting the suitable strategy design it's important to create a connection
between multi–project strategy with multiple criteria decision making.in other word selection multi–
project strategy will be as multiple criteria decision making problem. However this section presents
the construction of two types of criteria shown in Figure 4.2 and Figure 4.3 The propose of

Aluminum Foils
Before building the design that is best fit for the presentation, there was many models that had
"failed". To start off with, the first design to successfully float with 50 pennies for 20 seconds was
Tyler's design that was built with two pop cans and two sheets of aluminum paper (one is used to
wrap the cans while the other is used to make a "cup" to hold the pennies). However, when the
group weighed this in class, it was around 31 grams, which is 4.5 grams overweight (the
requirement is 26.5 grams). Seeing this, the group cut the top of both cans off, this decreased the
weight and allowed the boat to meet standards. Sadly, since the opening was big, small amounts of
water leaked in while tested, this made the group reconsider using this design in the final
presentation. Following Tyler's design, Jalen created a design that had one pop can and aluminum
foil wrapped around it, however, when Jalen tested this at home, it did not work. During this time,
Claire made a design to Tyler's. Instead of using aluminum foil to wrap around the two cans, Claire
poked two holes through both cans and used a metal strip (a strip of aluminum cut from a pop can)
and connected the two cans. Knowing that it will be overweight, Claire cut both tops off. ... Show

Starting off with Tyler's design, the surface area of this boat is bigger, this allows the pressure from
the pennies to spread out. Claire's design is similar to Tyler's, its advantage over the previous design
is that it is lighter, however, it is also unbalanced making the boat float in an awkward angle. Lastly,
there is the group design, which has the advantage of disabling the water to cover its insides but a
disadvantage of a higher number in the depth of the displaced area. To prove this, the group should
test all three boats out during the presentation, this would help communicate the designs on each

The weather was beautiful that day. The water was a million shades of blue. The The waters were
calm, with the occasional swell rolling to shore. I stood at the helm of this luxurious 40 foot boat. It
was an all white boat that had a special design for SCUBA Diving and Open Water fishing, called a

and sheer cliffs to the south. The green vegetation clearly contrasted with the black lava fields
around it.The water was deep in the bay. Yet the coral reef was visible even in the deepest spots. The
boat was swaying ever so slightly rocking with the tides as i stepped away from the helm. I dropped
the anchor and looked over to my best friend Brianna. She was sitting on a bench near the stern of

Gramazio + Kohler, Made by Robots: Challenging Architecture at a Larger Scale
The book questions whether the new digital technologies can impact and change the architectural
and material practice of today, Gramazio & Kohler explored the potentials of robot– induced design
and how robots can help enrich the physical nature of architecture, to inform the material processes
and to merge the computational design with the construction realization.
The employment of robotics in architecture is creating an entirely new aesthetic and functionality
that could alter and challenge the architectural design at a larger scale. By using the cost–efficient
fabrication machines that are both reliable and flexible such as the articulated arm robots or the
industrial robots that are known for their versatility and their ability to perform an unlimited variety
of non–repetitive tasks that can help expand the range of the architectural design and the production.
The initial introduction of the robotic systems to the building construction was not a success, the
book explains how the robots used in the building construction before were exclusively used to
optimize the productivity without taking into account the design process and not adding any real
lasting architectural value, this changed with time and now the architectural design and its
production process has to inform the approach to the robotic fabrication and not

Impact Of Technology And Design On Modernisation Of...
When looking at the effects of technology and design on the modernisation of Melbourne during the
interwar period of 1919–1939, you are able to capture a lot about how Australian design advanced
largely through such a small time frame. "Modern is the aspect in which you take in the present
time, to look forward into the future, and not look back" (2014, ilearn). It is where designers are
able to explore new ideas rather than continuing on with the ones from the past. However
modernism may have many meanings, but it largely expresses the design movement within the 20th
century, in how aspects of design has been influenced by many cultures and these ideas have then
been brought into consideration when the designer embarks on their own design journey.
Moving onto the postmodernism era, it was considered as "less is a bore" where households would
clutter up their homes with ornaments and a lot of handmade bulky furniture whereas when
modernism came into play it was considered where "less is more", which was a rejection of overly
used decorations and ornaments within the household, taking in favour the simplicity and
standardised forms that were suited to machine production. By having "less" in the house it allowed
the user to appreciate their surroundings more and move around more freely, rather than having the
risk of bumping into something.
During the 1930's was the so–called "depression–era", it was where objects were brought together to
create a whole new design, such as

Becoming An Art Director
Art directors create nearly every creative aspect of television programs, video games, motion
pictures, and more. They develop specific details for creating photographs, audio, or graphics used
in broadcasting and advertising. Also, they oversee everyone working around them to make sure the
job is done correctly and exceptionally. Some of their most important tasks include managing
budgets, approving materials, completing storyboards, and selecting and training staff members. Art
directors use both computers and handheld materials to build incredible sets and designs. Without
art directors, there would be very few of the beautiful works of media seen today (Art Directors).

Later studies, in the early 1990s, have documented the effect of IT on a diverse regular of measures,
(Love et al., 2013), improving performance investing in IT (Stone et al., 2007) such as operating

that IT can lead to better customer service and product quality. Although the trade literature has

Engineers used simple tools (pencils, tracing paper and ruler) to define their buildings. However,
with advances in maths, computing, technology the design and the building materials changed and

the project management appeared. The initial studies of the construction industry date from the

Designing Spaces Made For A Space
As designers our role is to make a space not only aesthetically pleasing but functional. However
countless spaces to this day do not function properly because every person who enters it cannot use
it. Accessibility is often not considered in many interior space designs, which excludes people with
difficulties of mobility, vision, hearing, or dexterity. This exclusion or added difficulty means the
design has failed. As we have continued to learn about human factors with a focus on accessibility, I
have now looked at how I should design much differently. I am not thinking "how would I like it", I
am now thinking "how could everyone use this". Universal design is of utmost importance and as
designers we have a duty to ensure everyone that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example weakness, arthritis or low stamina, adding the wheelchair radius of 1700 mm
eliminates more of the complications. The next design feature and ergonomic consideration for the
Assisted Living Centre was an accessible two level reception desk. This design can and should be a
feature that comes with all reception desks. Having a two level reception desk allows people to
either be served standing, or served in a wheelchair. It also ensures children to be seen and helped.
Having an obstacle free desk where a wheelchair can fit underneath so the person can seek the
assistance they need is optimal universal design. There was also a lot of thought that went into the
flooring choices for not only the common areas but the retirement suites. Dealing with seniors there
is a higher concern for falls or slips. Choosing a floor that allowed a wheelchair or walker to pass
over it as well provide traction and grip was a must. There also had to be considerations of the
hardness of the floor to eliminate any chance of injury steering clear of unforgiving hardwoods was
the decision that had to be made. Flooring can be aesthetically pleasing as well contribute to the

The Benefit Of The Internet

  • 1. The Benefit Of The Internet The Internet is a revolutionary tool that people utilize on a daily basis. People can easily research and communicate on the Internet efficiently and effectively. The efficiency and accessibility of the Internet improves learning in classrooms and communication. It allows people to communicate with others around the world. The Internet can be useful in the classroom by allowing students to learn comfortably, learn at their own pace, express their creativity in different mediums for projects, and access an infinite amount of information at their fingertips. This useful tool is used by all people such as students conducting research, people living abroad or in the military, and businessmen or women. People may argue that the Internet is dangerous or untrustworthy, but I argue that the Internet improves communications, learning, and overall quality of life. First, the Internet is one of the best ways to connect to people all around the world. It is used internationally, therefore, anyone can easily communicate to a friend or family member that is ten thousand miles away. This allows people with access to the Internet learn about different cultures and connect with people across the nation or across the globe. By communicating on the Internet, anybody can have a meeting, or from personal experience, be tutored, or have a casual conversation. The Internet allows beings to be aware and considerate of people from different backgrounds, social classes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Engineering Design Process Engineering Design Process Flight decks on planes are a complex series of buttons, switches, knobs and lights. But pilots use each of these controls to operate a different piece of equipment and navigate the plane safely. How do engineers design the flight deck so it works most efficiently for a pilot? Its questions like that which must be asked and successfully answered for a piece of equipment to be functional and successful in a plane. Kirschen Seah is a systems engineer for a commercial avionics electronics company. She works closely with other engineers in her company, as well as with customers to imagine, design and evaluate new flight deck controls. Understanding the Design Process You may wonder how they come up with the design for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The designer starts making a rough model by using simple things like clay and ping–pong balls. Keeping the materials and design simple and flexible allows the designer to easily experiment with and change the prototype. A prototype is the first working draft of a piece of equipment. Once the designer is satisfied with the shape, they make a drawing of the controller on a computer. Using the computer allows the team to change the components shape and move the knobs and switches around easily. Once they have an initial concept drawn up for the controller, they can "print" a three–dimensional copy of the controller using a special device called a stereolithography printer. This lets them handle the controller and check out the feel and position of the buttons, knobs and trackball. If they want to change their position it is still easy to do at this phase. If this all goes well, they are ready for testing. Kirschen helps with the projects by providing hardware and software, which simulate an aircraft flight deck. This mockup allows designers to test out new designs. Here designers can evaluate their projects in a dynamic flight simulation and make sure they work correctly and are easy for the pilots to use. Once the component has successfully passed on the requirements it is ready for delivery to the client. How Can You Think Like and Engineer Engineering and science are largely about using a process to ask and answer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Silence Of The Lambs The opening sequence of Clarice Starling frantically jogging through the labyrinth–like foggy forest in director Jonathan Demme's The Silence of the Lambs (1991), sets the visual design standard for the rest of the thrilling film. The visual design of a movie is comprised of the contents of the frame and how they are used to enhance the viewing experience for the audience. There exists a multitude of visual design elements, each one playing a major role in every motion picture. Visual design elements affect the mood and atmosphere in a film. The mood of a film is the emotion that is evoked when viewing a movie, whereas the atmosphere is external, the physical, sensory qualities of the film. Throughout the duration of the 138–minute masterpiece, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The set design in The Silence of the Lambs also adds to the disturbing mood of the overall film. As aforementioned, when visiting Lector at the prison, Starling has to walk past an abundance of cells, almost as if she is descending into more and more evil, deeper into the depths of Hell. When Starling finally arrives at her destination, she sees Lecter behind a thick pane of glass, rather than the standard steel bars of the other prisoners. This distinct choice in set design is made to convince the audience that they should be scared and unsettled for future encounters with Lector. Since the set designers placed Lecter behind maximum security glass, he is no ordinary bad–guy, but a smart mastermind and a brilliant criminal who needs to be treated with extreme ... • 5. Personal Narrative Essay : What I Did This Summer What I did this summer. That`s a good question to be honest, I did a lot of things that were considered fun for me, like shopping, hanging out with my family, hanging out with my friends, going to the beach, the water park and much more. But I will only break it down to two or three of my favorite things I did this Summer, so stick around to see what my favorite things about this Summer were. Like I said in my introduction, this paragraph will be about when I went shopping multiple times with my family. I know it might sound dumb for a first paragraph but, too me it was awesome. That's because, I love spending time with my family, especially when we're all getting along. Let me break down this day for you. First it was a good morning, my mom made me breakfast and everyone was in a good mood. My Brother was happy, my Dad was being hilarious, and my Mom just seemed like she was having a great time. Then we all got dressed, I was making sure that I looked extra stunning. So we get into the car and my favorite song comes on "Despacito" so my family and I all started singing it together. About an hour later we get to the South lake Mall and we went to four stores, Hollister, Vans, Journeys, and American Eagle. My Mom, Brother, and I all went to those four stores while my Dad went shopping somewhere else. It was going well , we were all having a fantastic time together. Then once we were done shopping we went to McDonald's got some food because, who doesn't adore McDonald`s right? Then we headed back home, it was a great day and for sure one of my favorite memories from this Summer. Keep in mind my family and I did this like 2 or 3 times this year, so it was extra fun. My second paragraph will be about when I went to Deep River Water–park with my friends, Eliot Cates, Ben Herz, Adam Collard, Cole Watson, and Alden Cates. It was honestly such a great time especially because, I was with my close friends. We went there for Eliot`s birthday. I was so excited when my Mom showed me the text saying I got invited, I got all my snacks, clothes, and towels ready, days before it was actually time for the "party". We were supposed to go on Wednesday, in July. So I get all ready and we head off for Eliot`s house, everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Importance Of Security In School Security Identification and exploration of need I aim to design a simple system to implement into the schools existing security as at the moment it is very easy for people to enter and exit the school both in and out of school hours. Also with incidents involving the school poorly set up security system makes more of a need for an update the current one.Although it is a bad thing be so open it also does have the benefit of allowing staff and students to leave when allowed but also allowing them to leave without permission.Having a stricter system may slow down the process of people exiting and entering the school legitimately Areas of investigation Areas i believe need to be investigated– How often staff or students leave the school with permission within school hours ? Is it a danger not having it ? Consideration of design factors Criteria to evaluate success The success of this design will be assessed from the function and ergonomics of this design as it needs to function and solve the problem of the lack of security currently, yet whilst stricting the security make sure people that are trying to leave and enter the school properly can do so.Meaning that the system will be deemed successful if it is aesthetically pleasing and welcoming to students and and the community yet have a distinct look that will deter unwanted people. Also it will need to perform the the task of keeping people inside the school safe and the schools property safe as well Time and action plan Term 2 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Equine Center Design Throughout the entire design process of the Phoenix Center, Studio 6 has designed along the lines of incorporating the concept of split yet connected. Each structure works as a whole to meet the functions mentioned in the program, but in certain areas, the overall structure splits to form separate spaces. The equine center, clinic, treehouse, cabin, bathhouse, as well as the pavilion all have a sense of separate yet connected to allow for a sense of continuity throughout the site's design. At the beginning of the design process for the equine center, we went with a more noticeable split yet connected element. After doing research, we came together and decided to incorporate a colorful walkway that compliments the aesthetics as well as making the building more appealing to the clients. While the equine center has the colorful walkway, the clinic and the bath house have a louver system along the exterior facade. This louver system will allow the clients to interact with the building, as well as being in control of the environment that is around them. The thought of physically being able to move the louvers grants the client the option to leave their mark on the building. The design of the clinic is three separate parts that all connect at the corners. This design is connected together at the center with an interactive outdoor corridor. Underneath the overhang for the outdoor corridor are stepping stones that have the option for children to have their own specific stepping stones that are different from an adults. On the clinic, Studio 6 incorporated a sense of biophilia by using a small creek, flowing from the exterior of the structure into the courtyard. This small element brings an overall relaxing sense to the clients and increases one's chance of overcoming the trauma they have been through. Along with the creek, we emphasized on the ... Essay on The ReMotion Prosthetic Knee The ReMotion Prosthetic Knee ReMotion is a project created by D–Rev (Design Revolution), a not for profit organization working in third world countries, which creates and supplies prosthetic knees to amputees living on under $4 a day (Krista Donaldson, 2013). One of the company's major constraints when designing the knee revolved around creating a product that performed at a standard equivalent to the high end prosthetic knees, but at a cost that was affordable and allowed for mass production. The project has been running since 2009 (Krista Donaldson, 2013) and over five and a half thousand amputees have since been fitted with the ReMotion knee, with the third version being made publicly available mid 2014 ('A Cheap Prosthetic Knee For ... Major decisions would have to be decided on and resolved throughout the process of designing and implementing the knee. Part of D–Rev's design ideal revolved around creating a high–end prosthetic knee that could be produced at a lower cost. Previous cheap alternatives for prosthetic joints and limbs greatly traded efficiency for a lower cost. While D–Rev would have aimed to avoid this trade– off between quality and cost, it is likely to remain imbalanced. Of course, the quality could have been lifted to a higher standard, but the cost would have been raised too, thus defeating their purpose of making a quality and cheap product. Another major decision revolved around maintaining quality with a simplistic design. By keeping everything straightforward, it allows for easy fitting and repairing of the joints without extensive training. While this may decrease the quality, it increases the practically as it takes lower qualifications to fit the product to the amputee and can easily occur in their home country. The ... Collaboration Within Systems Of Our Physical Environment COLLABORATION WITHIN SYSTEMS OF OUR PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT We are all part of an interlinking system, a system that needs balance with humanity and nature at the forefront. As Designers it is important that we take self interest out of design and instead collaborate within our physical environment and make sure that from the get go, our designs should work around a collaborative system that has a wide breadth of professional fields and influence from existing infrastructures found within our world. Victor Papernak writes "eighty percent of the environmental impact of the products, services, infastructures around us is determined at the design stage." I have chosen to explore collaborations within the natural world, our industrial ecology and social design as examples of how important working together with other professionals and the environment we live in are for the bigger picture. In Victor Papernak's book Design for the real world, Papernak uses an anecdote to stress the importance of collaboration for successful design. • 16. Inclusive or Universal Disign What is inclusive design and to what extent are we as interior designers and architects successful at designing these spaces? Inclusive or universal design is the design of a product or a service to accommodate as large a percentage of the population as possible, including but not limited to, those with disabilities. It aims to remove the barriers in products and services that create undue separation and enables everyone to participate equally with ease and confidence. This does not end at ergonomics and anthropometrics, inclusive design includes signage, lighting, material choices and colour contrasts. By designing a space inclusively, it can be used with confidence and comfort by people with disabilities, both physical and mental, the elderly and people with young children. Any frustration or caution can be overcome by inclusive design. At some point in their life everyone will experience a moment of limited mobility whether it's dragging a large suitcase around at an airport, pushing a pram or using a wheelchair. It is important that these issues are thought through and addressed early on in the design process. This means, where possible, designing inclusively from the very outset of the design process, and where not possible, adapting existing spaces as best we can. This is the most common way to establish trust in the collaborative economy. A complaint of these reputation systems is the accuracy of reviews given and the tendency to only provide extremely satisfied or extremely unsatisfied reviews. Some platforms are aware of this and incorporate mechanisms to encourage accurate, average reviews. For example, Airbnb added a feature in 2014 to reveal host and guest reviews simultaneously to make both parties feel comfortable in leaving honest reviews without the worry of a dishonest retaliatory review. The ATB gig site will not only reveal reviews simultaneously, it will have a template for constructive feedback. The template will ask for a rating and/or review of specific behaviours, such as adhering to the terms of the agreement. Both parties, in advance of the gig, will negotiate the agreement to facilitate clear communication and expectations. Rare and used mostly in online gaming, hybrid trust models use both network structure and interactions to compute trust. In this model, interacting users exchange friend lists that are saved as a friendship graph. The more frequent the interactions and the longer their duration, the higher the trust value. This is an infrequently used trust model. Extraordinarily, rare woods and exotic materials that blended to create clean profiles of movable parts that appeal to the sensibility of progressive art characterize his furniture. Chareau is celebrated most for the legendary Maison de Verre collaboration in 1932. It was the first house made of steel and glass and thus an evolution of modern architecture. Those who know about his work celebrate him as a father of modernity, however, he tremendously failed in a number of things for instance, the exam at Ecole Des Beaus in Paris leading him to take a job as an apprentice for a British furniture manufacture in Paris. Eventually he rose to become a designer. In the mid 1920s, he opened his first two shops, one for cushion sales and the other to sell furniture and lighting. He continued designing his own works until he was called upon by Dr. Jean Dalsace to build the glass house (Cohen 854). In addition, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 28. Why Design Can Not Remain Exclusive The Writers Since the NSFNet was decommissioned in the early 1990's and restrictions on commercial traffic was removed, (Costello,2016) we have seen the individual empowered to a point where they can compete with the tradition, media, retail and content outlets.(Abel, 2011) 'Right now, with social networks and other tools on the Internet, all of these 500 million people have a way to say what they 're thinking and have their voice be heard.' (Heussner, 2016) With this technological advancement, the individual has been emancipated from total reliance on the publishers, record labels and retailers. Any individual with access to the internet, can share their work and has the opportunity to create a stir within an industry. In Open Design Now: Why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book Open Design Now: Why Design Cannot Remain Exclusive, Open design is defined as, ''distributed manufacturing' processes that emphasise the use–related capabilities of openness'. (Van Abel, Evers, and Klaassen, 2014) Through information technology, digital manufacturing uses a network of collaborative facilities that enable manufacturing to be sourced locally. We no longer have to be restricted to using a single factory or distributor (Liu, Wang, and Wei, 2009). This method compared to traditional low cost labour options, is more economically sound. In an Article, 'The Rise of Distributed Manufacturing and 7 advantages over Traditional Manufacturing'(Robinson,2014), writer Adam Robinson gives two examples of an imaginary company that goes through the traditional means of manufacturing and distributed manufacturing. In the traditional example a company must source cheap labourers for the production of their product. when the product is made they are sent via shipping containers, emitting fuels and taking additional time from the transportation process. If the product were to undergo a distributed manufacturing process then the company would locally source experts, there would be a higher labour cost for the design process but the additional costs would be proportionate to the time and expense saved in the transport costs involved in the Traditional method.(Robinson,2014) So what does the open in 'Open design' mean? ... College Application Essay Studying Communications and Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS) in college, I was a videographer and a graphic designer passionate about resolving real human problems through the use of digital design. Practicing digital video production, interactive camera motion control, and real–time system programming, I had established real–world skills to produce a thoughtful digital experience for the users. However, temporary exposure of digital works didn't satisfy my urge to influence people's perspectives in a long term. Instead, I wanted a profound contribution to improving the way of life through accessible designs. • 31. Aluminum Foils Before building the design that is best fit for the presentation, there was many models that had "failed". To start off with, the first design to successfully float with 50 pennies for 20 seconds was Tyler's design that was built with two pop cans and two sheets of aluminum paper (one is used to wrap the cans while the other is used to make a "cup" to hold the pennies). However, when the group weighed this in class, it was around 31 grams, which is 4.5 grams overweight (the requirement is 26.5 grams). Seeing this, the group cut the top of both cans off, this decreased the weight and allowed the boat to meet standards. Sadly, since the opening was big, small amounts of water leaked in while tested, this made the group reconsider using this design in the final presentation. Following Tyler's design, Jalen created a design that had one pop can and aluminum foil wrapped around it, however, when Jalen tested this at home, it did not work. During this time, Claire made a design to Tyler's. Instead of using aluminum foil to wrap around the two cans, Claire poked two holes through both cans and used a metal strip (a strip of aluminum cut from a pop can) and connected the two cans. Knowing that it will be overweight, Claire cut both tops off. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starting off with Tyler's design, the surface area of this boat is bigger, this allows the pressure from the pennies to spread out. Claire's design is similar to Tyler's, its advantage over the previous design is that it is lighter, however, it is also unbalanced making the boat float in an awkward angle. Lastly, there is the group design, which has the advantage of disabling the water to cover its insides but a disadvantage of a higher number in the depth of the displaced area. To prove this, the group should test all three boats out during the presentation, this would help communicate the designs on each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Descriptive Essay The weather was beautiful that day. The water was a million shades of blue. The The waters were calm, with the occasional swell rolling to shore. I stood at the helm of this luxurious 40 foot boat. It was an all white boat that had a special design for SCUBA Diving and Open Water fishing, called a Mako. I steered the boat into a pretty unprotected bay that had a nice black sand beach to the north and sheer cliffs to the south. The green vegetation clearly contrasted with the black lava fields around it.The water was deep in the bay. Yet the coral reef was visible even in the deepest spots. The boat was swaying ever so slightly rocking with the tides as i stepped away from the helm. I dropped the anchor and looked over to my best friend Brianna. She was sitting on a bench near the stern of the boat fiddling with her fins. She was a beautiful "Hapa" Filipino, White girl. She had the most mesmerizing eyes, that I caught myself on many occasions just staring at them, Her hair was wavy and dark brown, caked by the ocean salt. She was wearing a blue and white one piece swimsuit full of flower and tropical designs on the sides. There was an expensive, black diving mask across her forehead, as if she was wearing raised sunglasses. She had this strong athletic presence to her. And was a very confident swimmer. She always seemed to know what I was thinking. I smiled when I looked at her, I was glad she was there with me that day. Across from her stood a dear friend named patrick ... Alexandra Morales ARC 5205 Advanced Theory Professor Neil Leach Pages: 16–45 Gramazio + Kohler, Made by Robots: Challenging Architecture at a Larger Scale The book questions whether the new digital technologies can impact and change the architectural and material practice of today, Gramazio & Kohler explored the potentials of robot– induced design and how robots can help enrich the physical nature of architecture, to inform the material processes and to merge the computational design with the construction realization. The employment of robotics in architecture is creating an entirely new aesthetic and functionality that could alter and challenge the architectural design at a larger scale. By using the cost–efficient fabrication machines that are both reliable and flexible such as the articulated arm robots or the industrial robots that are known for their versatility and their ability to perform an unlimited variety of non–repetitive tasks that can help expand the range of the architectural design and the production. The initial introduction of the robotic systems to the building construction was not a success, the book explains how the robots used in the building construction before were exclusively used to optimize the productivity without taking into account the design process and not adding any real lasting architectural value, this changed with time and now the architectural design and its production process has to inform the approach to the robotic fabrication and not ... • 35. Impact Of Technology And Design On Modernisation Of... When looking at the effects of technology and design on the modernisation of Melbourne during the interwar period of 1919–1939, you are able to capture a lot about how Australian design advanced largely through such a small time frame. "Modern is the aspect in which you take in the present time, to look forward into the future, and not look back" (2014, ilearn). It is where designers are able to explore new ideas rather than continuing on with the ones from the past. However modernism may have many meanings, but it largely expresses the design movement within the 20th century, in how aspects of design has been influenced by many cultures and these ideas have then been brought into consideration when the designer embarks on their own design journey. Moving onto the postmodernism era, it was considered as "less is a bore" where households would clutter up their homes with ornaments and a lot of handmade bulky furniture whereas when modernism came into play it was considered where "less is more", which was a rejection of overly used decorations and ornaments within the household, taking in favour the simplicity and standardised forms that were suited to machine production. By having "less" in the house it allowed the user to appreciate their surroundings more and move around more freely, rather than having the risk of bumping into something. During the 1930's was the so–called "depression–era", it was where objects were brought together to create a whole new design, such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However countless spaces to this day do not function properly because every person who enters it cannot use it. Accessibility is often not considered in many interior space designs, which excludes people with difficulties of mobility, vision, hearing, or dexterity. This exclusion or added difficulty means the design has failed. As we have continued to learn about human factors with a focus on accessibility, I have now looked at how I should design much differently. I am not thinking "how would I like it", I am now thinking "how could everyone use this". Universal design is of utmost importance and as designers we have a duty to ensure everyone that ... The next design feature and ergonomic consideration for the Assisted Living Centre was an accessible two level reception desk. This design can and should be a feature that comes with all reception desks. Having a two level reception desk allows people to either be served standing, or served in a wheelchair. It also ensures children to be seen and helped. Having an obstacle free desk where a wheelchair can fit underneath so the person can seek the assistance they need is optimal universal design. There was also a lot of thought that went into the flooring choices for not only the common areas but the retirement suites. Dealing with seniors there is a higher concern for falls or slips. Choosing a floor that allowed a wheelchair or walker to pass over it as well provide traction and grip was a must. There also had to be considerations of the hardness of the floor to eliminate any chance of injury steering clear of unforgiving hardwoods was the decision that had to be made.
