• Charles Dickens was
born in 7 February 1812
and died in 9 June 1870.
• He was an English writer
and social critic . He
created some of the
world’s best known
fictional characters and
regarded by many as the
greatest novelist of the
Victorian era.
•The Pickwick papers,
Oliver Twist , Nicholas
Nickleby etc his notable
works.
About the Novel
• Oliver Twist was first Published 1837.Oliver Twist
was Dickens’s second novel and his first real social
novel.
• Oliver Twist has also become one of the most
dramatized of Dickens’s works it was produced in
multiple theaters.
•Oliver Twist is a revolutionary novel .Concept of
childhood is very Power full . Oliver Twist is the title
character and protagonist of the novel . He was the first
child protagonist in English novel.

His true identity is the central
mystery of the novel . His
mother name not known to
anyone in the town.
• His mother dies right after giving
birth to him and he is sent to the
parochial orphanage, where he
and other orphans are treated
terribly.
• The other boys , unable to stand
their hunger any longer , decide
to draw straws to choose who will
have to go up and ask for more
food . Oliver loses on the
appointed day after finishing his
first serving gruel , he goes up
and asks for more to Mr. Bumble
the beadle and the board are
outraged and decide they must
get rid of Oliver .
Mr. Bumble
Mr. Bumble is the
beadle of the parish ,a
fat and choleric man
who takes great joy in
abusing those below
him , and is often
offended by their
impositions on him
The pompous , self
important beadle a
minor church official for
the workhouse where
Oliver is born . He treats
very badly with Oliver
and give him to Mr. and
Mrs. sowerberry.
Fagin
He was very old man.
Fagin was the leader of
a gange of boy thieves
.He takes in homeless
children and trains them
to pick pockets for him.
Fagin tries to turn
Oliver in to a thief . He is
also a buyer of other
People’s stolen goods
.He rarely commits
crimes himself.
Mr. Brownlow
•He is a very
respectable looking
gentlemen . He likes
Oliver even Oliver
stealing his
handkerchief.
•He was first
benefactor of Oliver
. He gave him good
food and good
cloths to Oliver .
•Oliver was very
happy with him.
Nancy
•She also commits
perhaps the most noble
act in the novel when
she sacrifices her own
life in order to protect
Oliver.
•Nancy’s moral
complexity is unique
among the major
characters in Oliver
Twist.
•She gives her life for
Oliver when sikes
murders her for
revealing Monk’s plots.
Agnes
Fleming
•She was Oliver’s
mother . She was a
beautiful , loving
woman Oliver’s
face closely
resembles hers.
She falling in love
with Mr. Leeford .
He wants to marry
with Agnes but he
dies . so she was
mother without
marriage.
Other characters of the Novel
•The novel is full of characters who are all
good and evil. Rose , sikes , monks , Mr. and
Mrs. sowerberry , Artful Dodger they all are
part of the novel.
