3. • I carried our audience research which consisted of asking
people in my target audience on their opinions of my
magazine. Before I showed them my magazine I asked them
what they look for in a magazine and the main responses
were: “it has to be bright, clear and consistent”. They
mentioned a few more things such as they would prefer the
masthead being across the page so it is clear who made the
magazine or what it is about. They also wanted the main
images of the magazine to be high quality and especially
eye catching. I took all this feedback into consideration
when designing my my cover page, contents page and
double page spread.

4. I made sure my top priority was to have
the masthead across the whole page.
Not only because this is what my target
audience wanted but also the majority
of professional magazines do this. I
made it clear and colorful.
My audience wanted to be able to
clearly see what the magazine features
inside. I have four cover line positioned
around the main image with different
stories that will be inside. They are in a
red and black font on top of a beige
background which helps the stand out
more.
I have placed the artists name in bold across the
bottom of the page in a different font to the masthead.
This is because I wanted to give credit and some
spotlight to the artist. However it is in the same shade
of red as the masthead. I followed it up with a
subheading as it gives the audience a little bit of
knowledge of the artist and this is what they wanted
I decided to go with a medium shot
instead of a long shot or close up as
according to my audience this is
visually more attractive on a magazine.
They wanted the image to be big
enough so that they know it is about
the artist which I feel like I have done
well.
In the bottom two corners I have
included a barcode and sticker. My
audience told me that the barcode was
one of the most important features on
a magazine as it makes it look
professional. I included a sticker in the
bottom left corner as it takes up blank
space which was a negative by my
audience

5. In my double page spread my peers
told me that it is easier to work with
a long shot image as it takes up
more space. I agree with this and as
you see I worked around the main
image. I also made the image eye
catching as it involved a lot of
money. This shows confidence and
character from my artist.
Similar to my cover page I made sure
the two first things you see as the
audience are the image and the
artists name. This is important as it
evolves around him. From my
research I discovered that humans
will always read left to right therefore
anything placed on the left hand
page will be seen first.
As you can see compared to my
contents page and cover page I
included a lot more colors such as
green and blue. Even though I
wanted it to be simple I was also told
by my audience that it needs to
stand out.
Another thing that my audience
didn't’t want to see on my double
page spread was a lot of “boring
writing”. This was difficult to
overcome as I had over one
thousand words to include however I
feel like I have done a good job. I
split up the writing into columns so it
looks a lot less then it is and also
included little headlines after each
paragraph to make them more fun.

6. The contents page is as important
as the cover page in terms of
drawing people in to read your
magazine. This means that it has
to be colourful and clear. From
my research they said that a
contents page should have more
than one image. With all different
costume and lightings. I made
sure that I had three images on
my contents page. One main
images and two small images that
add colour.
The layout of the contents page was
one of the hardest to get right as
there were not many examples I
could have worked from. I asked my
target audience “what do you want
to see in a contents page in terms of
layout?” which they replied “it needs
to be about the writing as well as the
image”. It was very hard to get the
scale between the two perfect
however I feel like I have done well
A problem I had with the artists
name “DJ MAZZA” is that according
to my audience it was very hard to
see. I added in a drop shadow effect
which essentially highlights the text
so that it is easier to read. I also
copied this with the masthead
(CONTENTS). I made sure I had
different colors in my images and
different camera shots from long
shots to medium shots as it is
important to show different angles.
The issue date was a
problem in my previous
draft as it stood out to
much. This is because I had
set the font size to “45”
which is used as a font for
mastheads. I decreased the
size so that it isn't the first
thing you see as a reader
and decreased the opacity
