2. Existing Product
This image is a vogue
interior design magazine
cover, this is very similar to
what I want my final product
to look like this is because
the mise en scene of the
background image is a full
image (long shot) and the
lighting grabs the attention.
The colour scheme also does
this as the colours are
creams which gives a calm
mood.
By using photoshop I will be
able to edit my image for my
background and add
different lightings and to
create a layout similar to
this. I also really like these
fonts because the colours are
darker than the background,
so they mix well, and the
different size of fonts stands
out a lot to me.
The theme of this
magazine is also
‘ideal homes’ so my
focus is of taking my
photographs in living
rooms or any other
home décor. I also
really liked the idea of
the cover lines on this
magazine and the
main cover line of
‘French chic’ this has
inspired me to add
similar coverlines on
to my final product
and I now have a lot
more ideas with
wording them. This
makes the audience
want to buy this
magazine through the
detail on the front of
the magazine and it
gives of classy vibes.
3. Existing Product
This second similar
existing product I chose
was the Elle decoration
magazine. I chose this
because this cover really
grabbed my attention
through the matching
colour scheme of the
light pastel pink which I
really like and want to
include in my final
product. This magazine
also has one big main
image as the
background with mostly
white colours so the
font colours stand out
over the image, I think
this really gives it a
diverting effect. This
image is also a full long
shot which I prefer
because it shows every
aspect.
In this magazine I also
like the script font used
under the main title
font. Script font is a font
which think is effective
and finishes of the
magazine therefore I
will be adding this into
my final product. The
mise en scene setting is
perfect lighting in the
room of the image and
isn’t too dark or light.
Lastly, this makes the
audience want to buy it
because this magazine
makes you want to look
through it because of
the main image used
and also looks like a
stylish up to date
magazine which the
audience might prefer.
4. Existing Product
This magazine is from
‘ideal homes’ and I chose
this magazine because I
really liked the layout of
it and how it involves a
lot of information.
This magazine hasn’t just
got one main
background image it
includes mini photos on
the side this is a teaser
as to what types of
themes will be inside.
The conventions are also
all on the magazine like
the barcodes, headlines
and the price but the
price is hidden which
most magazines do if it’s
a high price because this
is less noticeable and
makes the audience
want to buy it.
The masthead is in
white and the colour
scheme matches the
other headlines to
make it look more
appealing and attract
the audience. In this
magazine the plug is
placed in the front with
a pink colour scheme
this appeals towards
women, and grabs the
audiences attention to
the ‘buyers guide'. This
magazine also has a
sub heading I think this
is catchy and gages the
audience in, the
background is a grey
colour scheme so the
pink colour makes the
font stand out from its
background.
5. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– In the existing products the common features are mostly the
layout because they all are very similar styles and all the cover
lines are placed in the same places, the colour schemes are also
all light and the magazines give a modern vibe to them all.
Another convention is they all have a main background image this
also grabs the audiences attention through the image size. Lastly
all the magazine have the same featured fonts in common they
are serif fonts and a very large this also grabs the audiences
attention to the magazine.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
– After focusing on the existing products, I decided that the layout
of the magazine will be included in my work and will be very
similar to each other featuring all the conventions in the products
I have researched. I also want to include the type of colour
scheme, so my magazine will have these neutral, modern colours.
Lastly I am also looking to include the different fonts, serif fonts
and script fonts because I find these one most appealing to my
female audience and they will stand out to my audience.
7. Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
25-54 • This appeals to this audience because by
this age they will be financially independent
and would be looking for ideas for designing
there homes.
Gender
female • This is because more females prefer to look
for ideas in a magazine for designing there
own home décor (inspiration)
Psychographic
achievers • I think this category fits best because
achievers focus on individuality and power
which relates to people having there own
homes and focusing on themselves.
Social Status
balanced • This is a mixture of achievers and social
conscious groups. This also benefits
everyone and will benefit my magazine.
