3. Draft front page sketches
Masthead is placed at the top and in front of the
artist to show that the brand is most important and
shows off the brand when it is placed higher than
most of the content.
Logo placed in the corner next to the masthead so it
can be noticed easily when people look at the
masthead they will see the company logo next to it.
Strapline is placed at the top so it doesn’t get in the
ways of any other content and also so it doesn’t take
up much space.
Main image is placed in the centre because the
image will be the first thing a reader will notice so
the quality and arrangement of the image will effect
their view on the magazine and their decision to buy
it or not.
Cover lines will be placed on the sides surrounding
the main image but not touching it, because the
main image must be the centre of attraction and
therefore there shouldn’t be anything on it to take
away the attention from the image.
Main headline is placed at the bottom left hand side
and goes over the main image this is only because
the main headline is to do with the main image and
therefore only brings the attention back to the main
image.
4. Draft front page sketches
Masthead is placed at the top of the page
so that it is easily recognised and can be
spotted easily.
Main image is placed in the centre
because I want most of the attention to be
on the main image because readers look at
the main image first and so I have made it
big and in the centre so it is spotted easily.
Cover lines are placed around the main
image and some of the cover lines stretch
onto the main image.
Main headline is placed in the bottom
centre over the main image so it can be
seen easily.
Barcode is placed at the bottom right of
the page so it doesn’t interfere with any of
the other content.
5. Draft double page spread sketches
Main image is place in the middle
DPS because this will make the
page look more unique and show
that both pages are connected to
one topic about the artist.
Logo will be placed on right page
of the DPS at the top so that it can
be recognised easily.
Advertisement of a product the
artist promotes will be shown on
the side of the right page on the
DPS.
The content will surround the
main image and will be on both
pages.
The main header will be on the
left page of the DPS and on the
left hand corner so it will be the
first thing they read.
A quote of the artist will be
displayed next to the main image
on the left page of the DPS.
Page number
Question and answers
will be within the content
of the interview.
6. Draft double page spread sketch
Main header will be on a separate page to with
the main image so it stands out from all the
other content
Main image will be placed on the left page of
the DPS because I want it to have lots of room
and need to be big so that the reader spots it
straight away an d gets drawn into the article by
the image.
A quote of the artist will go on the same page
as the main image to show that its from the
artist.
All of the content of the interview will be
on the right page of the DPS because I
want the left page to be covered mostly
by the image and therefore will no have
much space for the content. The web link to the publishers website will be
shown at the bottom of the page.
The logo will also be at the bottom of the page
so that it doesn’t get in the way of anything but
also so that it can be recognised instantly when
they see it.
Question and answers will be within the
content of the interview.

8. House style
• My magazine will consist mostly of the colours grey, white and yellow. My magazines
background will be a dark grey with masthead being a pale yellow, which will contrast on
another and make the mast head stand out more because it has a more brighter colour. I will
have grey and white text for my magazine front cover because by doing this I can show to
people that it is a mature magazine by showing them that it doesn’t need to use many
different bright colours to make it stand out and that it can look appealing to my target
audience with simple colours. For my double page spread I will have black content because I
want people to be able to easily read it so if I put it light shade of yellow it would be difficult
to read and not very appealing to look at. The reason why I have chosen different shades of
grey is because I can’t things around the artist to be in s dull colour and the artist and the
masthead has to shine through with their bright colours. This will help distinguish the brand
and help the magazine be easily spotted on shelf's in stores.

Cost of one - £319.99
Cost of 7 – £2,239.93
I will only need 3 computers to
start from because I am only a
start-up business and therefore
shouldn’t not put all my money at
risk by buying lots of equipment
and then not getting good enough
profit back from it.

22. Masthead idea
http://www.dafont.com/
These are the fonts that I have narrowed down
to include in my magazines.
Fighting Spirit
I chose this font because it has
sharp edges which goes with the
name stinger.
Olympic Branding
I chose this font because it looks
very none formal and a relaxing
font. By using this type of font it can
easily indicate to the viewer that the
magazine talks openly with the
audience.
Husky Stash
I chose this font because this has wide spaces
between its letters which indicates calmness.
This is helpful to make the reader feel like we
are thinking about them and we consider the
readers feelings when reading the magazine.
60s Pop
I chose this font because the font itself looks very retro
and it looks like it’s meant to be for Pop magazines
because of it’s groovy and retro look.
Linkin Park
I have chosen this font because it is very bold
and sharp and because of this it will be easily
noticeable on shelf's amongst other magazines.
This font is also very unique with its letters being
stretched out and having sharp ends. The font is
well aligned apart from the random unusual lets
stepping out this could connote that the
magazine some times goes out of its boundaries
to get us good content because by the letters
being rebellious and stepping out of their
alignment shows that the magazine is also a bit
rebellious.
23. Masthead
• The idea for my magazine has lots of inspiration from the original layouts of the
VIBE magazine and have also edited some features of vibe which I though where
not as well dispelled such as usually the cover line text is really small on most Vibe
magazines. While this is a great idea to draw more attention to the masthead by
the cover line being to small makes it feels as if the they aren’t as interesting as
the main headline. This makes people want to skip over the short stories and only
read the main story all because the text was to small. So that is why I am keeping
at size 16 and the masthead at size 34.
• Another key feature I am adding in my magazine is advertisement of a competition
which will draw people in because they would can’t to win the price. This will be
presented in the form of a Puff/Promotion.
• My main article will be an interview write a background story about an artist by
researching about that person and displaying it as a story.
24. Draft articles
Ollie Dean is a man with potential’, which is how his former manager Joe Hock described him as. Yet now Will Dean’s potential has turned into to perfection with his new album ‘The Craze’ making up to £7 million
within a month of its release. This star has gained mass amounts of popularity within a year.
This is Ollie Dean’s first year as a star and within this year he has accomplished much more than any ordinary star of our current time. This man has changed the music industry and is now thinking of bringing in even
more talent into the industry. He has also been working alongside Bruno Mars and Eminem to help write new songs.
Ollie Dean started off his career by working as a sound technician in a studio called ‘The Height’ in Birmingham. It was later that he realised his passion for music when he heard a young man called Mathew Brin in the
studio sing and noticed that his pitch was too high and thought to himself he could manage to reach the right pitch and sing that song. So then he went in and asked the studio manager if he could have a shot at it and
after one try the manager of the store realised Dean’s potential and recommended him to Joe Hock. Today we will be joined by Ollie Dean himself to find out what happened after he went under the wing of Joe Hock.
So Dean tells us what happened after you went and accepted Joe Hocks offer?
Ehh well what happened was that I went to him yea and me I was all nervous cause I hadn’t done this before you know what I’m saying, and then when I my man Joe he like showed me around the new studio and all
the people who helped out there and stuff. So like I, I still couldn’t soak this all in right so everything Joe said went into my ear and came out the other ear. So then like I went home yea and sat down yea and just
looked at myself in the mirror and went wow dude your gonna be rich bro and I was about to pass out from all the excitement and thrill that idea gave me. So yea ehhhmm, after that I just got with the moment and
just carried on the rest of the journey, which like got me here, like right know.
Dean how are you coping with sudden spike of popularity you now have?
Oh my God like bro like this right here is like a dream come true and I’m like so struck back by It I mean to know that I have so many fans who like my music, oh like bro it’s like amazing. Like the other day right I just
walked out me hotel to go to get a bite right and these people were like waiting outside my hotel to see me and I was like wow wow wow, like is this for real. So yea man it’s quite a big thing to cope with you know but
like I think I can probably handle it, like bro who doesn’t like fame and glory right.
Is it true that you are going to settle down in Italy for a while?
Naa naa I am like gonna settle down and stuff right but not know like I’m just too much in that flow you know what I’m saying. So yea but I will like on want to settle down in Italy someday because like it’s a nice place
right. But like for now right all I’m focused on is like my future ahead cause I can go back since I have ‘I made the jump’ from being an ordinary guy to like a big superstar and like there is now way I’m like stopping so
early in the game.
Is it true you refused to work alongside Jay- Z?
Haa yea the dude was a straight up jerk to me like when he came up to me and asked to do like a song with me he didn’t even have a smile on his face. But like I was thinking about the money then so like I dint care if
he wasn’t smiling as longs as I had stacks of green with me, you know what I’m saying. But for real though I like got a proper view of how much of a jerk he was when we started producing our song. Like he would
never come and talk to me directly right he would send like members of his crew or something to talk to me yea and I had to have special permission by him to go to speak to him. Then it got to a point right where it
was l like what the hell man, we both like respected artists so show me the respect then jerk. So yea brov the went like that and I straight up told him I didn’t want to work with anymore and we he blew of the contract
like right there and that was the end of that.
Now Dean I heard that you have been having some issues with your health recently, could you explain what happened to you throughout that period?
Oooooh dude I was like literally struck down with like tiredness yea, like I was so tired from all the constant concert and gigs I had to be at. Like ahh…. It got to like a point where I was like I just couldn’t handle it
anymore man I was just collapsing. Like I remember right when I did like a 24 hour journey and was constantly awake right like the whole way and then like I reached the concert and was like man you got to do this
dude like common think of the fans. So I like popped a few energy tablets and just like went up on stage like proper hyped, and like I managed to carry it through the whole concert. Then dude when I got of stage I was
like ohhhhhh can’t do this dude like I was so tired and I just went bam on the ground right like was like proper
unconscious, like had no idea right that if I was gonna die or what. Then I wake up in like hospital yea and I have this bandage over my nose cause I fell on it broke it yea and I’m like dam I just broke my nose but then I
was like at least you know I’m still alive so there’s a plus. So yea that happened.
Dean I heard that you were trying to bring on of your childhood friends into the music industry and that you guys where making a song together?
Yea yea ma main man Charlie we like brothers, we like grew up together and stuff. So like I went and met up with him like last week and he like expressed his feelings about music to me right and I was like yea sure I
bet you just want in because of the money and he was like no bro I actually have a passion for music and so I was like alright I’ll give you a shot. So I gave him a chance to show make how good he was right and he was
like amazing like never know that you had that talent like inside you bro, and he was like so happy yea and then I was like to him ill help you yea to get into the industry that is. But like before that I had to fix up his
vocals a bit cause like he needed a bit of polishing then. So like after like a month of working with, for like every day and when we made it I was like dude you’ve got it and he was like thanks u so much dude like he
was like crying on my shoulders and ended up making me emotional like seriously.
Dean could you give us some information on what your future plans are?
Like my future plan is to like carry out my career right and just keep on climbing because I want to like reach the top and to do that I have to like work harder and harder. Like because hip hop is my life so I don’t want
to like just go with the flow and just settle with what I have I want like a drive to be better and better you know what I mean yea. So I was also like thinking like emm…… like gather like a group of like talented singers
right like people who are like new to the music industry, I am doing this cause like I want people to have like that opportunity that like I had to become a star.
28. Test Photography
My magazine is called stinger so I thought it would be a good idea if I did my photo-
shoot outdoors so I decided to do it in a forest. This gave me great scenery and
allowed me to capture different forms of light. I was also able capture images at
night in the forest which also gave me good silhouettes. In both of my pictures I have
chosen to include the upper body because I felt expressions can only be seen in
good detail if zoomed in. I have also positioned the artist to do different hand
gestures in the two images because I feel that hand gestures can also help to
determine the mood. Such as in the first picture the hands are freely hanging which
means that he is more relaxed and calm, but in the second image he has his hands
folded showing he is in a less relaxed mood and can even say he is angry.
Test photography goes into content acquisition of my production process which is
step 2 of my production process I researched and found. This is because content
acquisition is the gathering of resources and in my test photography I gathered all
the photos I needed to place in my magazine.
29. Process of production
• Step one is to plan out how your magazine and design the front cover.
• Step two is to decide on your editors choice. So to decide which story is going where and how
much of it is going in.
• Next step is to decide on the sub editing and make sure that the magazine is up to good quality
and if not add thing to make it to a good quality.
• Then it's time to proof read and make sure everything is in place and have no errors.
• After you print and produce the product you have to do a quality check on the product to
make sure no faults where made when producing the product.
• The you have to decide the price your are going to sell you product for.
• then finally launch the product.
http://hosbeg.com/the-
magazine-production-process/
31. Issue
Issue The issue date of the magazine will be on the
1st of January 2015. This is a good time to
start my magazine of because a new year
mark the beginning and this is a perfect time
to release my magazine because it reflects on
the beginning of Stinger.
Price The price will be set at £3 because it costs
87p per magazine to print and therefore by
charging £3 per magazine I am making a profit
of £2.18 per magazine sold.
Printed I will have 10,000 copies printed each costing
around 87p.
Distributed The magazine will use online websites and
stores such as WHSmith to sell the magazines
in.
32. Conclusion
In this LO I have created the pre-production
material needed such as the proposal, graphics
layouts, magazine drafts, flat plans and
photography plans. I have also done some pre-
production by looking at the different font I
want to use, where I will acquire them from, the
different colours I will use in my magazine, the
layout of it and its estimated budget. I have also
shown the different types of equipment I will be
using in my pre-production and their costs.
37. Copy right laws - SpinMedia
http://www.spinmedia.com/copyright
SpinMedia advices if your
IP rights is being infringed
by a user, to provide their
designated copyright
agent with the
information listed so that
they can then find the
confirmation of the
existence of your IP on the
service and inform the
user who posted the
content with your IP. From
then they can take
whatever appropriate
action is needed, this
could be temporarily or
permanently removing
the IP from the service.
38. Watermarking images
Watermarking is adding a very
faded and see through logo or
name of your company so that
other people cant reuse your
images claiming to be theirs. This
protects your images from being
copy written and there for I will
use this in my magazine so that my
images aren't stolen and reused.
Watermarking is simple you can
use software tools such as
Photoshop to produce these and,
it is free and takes up very little
time to produce.

57. Legal
Vibe places their consumer policy on their websites to show to the audience that they have on
and what it states.
The copy right law states that any content which is used from another source or can not be sent
or used on SpinMedias pages or on any of its publications. Copy right law means that if any of
your content used in any of your publications can not be from another source which you have not
gain permission to use. So if you use a picture of someone and place it within your magazine the
person who you have used the picture of has the capability to sue the business for copy write.
The link below shows the magazine’s policy:
http://www.spinmedia.com/privacy-policy
58. Press complaints are complaints that the audience
are entitled to make and report a magazine for.
They are allowed to complain about things such as
inappropriate content used such as racial comments
which might offend, pictures used of people who
may have not have given permission to use or even
for adding in false information.
An example of this is when Tom Cruise attempted to
sues Bauer for $50m because Bauer published false
information that Tom Cruise has cut Suri his
daughter out of his life. So because they had
published false information about him without his
permission he was allegeable to sue them for this as
it breaks the copyright law. However he didn’t not
win the case as he didn’t gave enough evidence
against Bauer and ended up having to abandon the
case.
This shows that anyone has the right and capability
of taking action towards a brand if they break any of
the copyright laws and you have enough
information and evidence to back your claims.
59. IPSO
IPSO is and organisation which monitors
content released by magazines to see if
they have displayed any content which
might offend any types of audience and
there for will get the magazine sued if any
customers decide to take the magazine
company to court because of the
inappropriate content. IPSO also takes on
any complaints and with that conduct their
own investigations on the magazine the
complaint was on.
https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/aboutipso.html
60. https://www.ipso.co.uk/IPSO/aboutipso.html
IPSO will take forward complaints from anybody that an in
accurate information has been published off. If the complaint
has been made to the specific individual that is reporting to
IPSO, IPSO is able to take forward a complaint from a third
party, but will need to consider position of direct affect to the
party to decide whether it is reasonable to do so.
IPSO only consider complaints that publications which are
members of IPSO have breached the Editors’ Code of Practice.
IPSO is able to consider complaints within 4 months of the
conduct complaint or the publication of the article.
Submitting a form means that if ISPO does think that the
publication has breached the Editor’s Code, IPSO will send
the details of your complaint to the publication, which will
then give you an opportunity to resolve the problem directly.
61. Editors code of conduct
The editors code of conduct effects my magazine because it stops me from putting on content in
my magazine about other people without their consents. Unless with the persons consent the
magazine or reporter are both not legally allowed give information out about a person especially
if they were a victim or witness at a place of illegal action.
The code also means that I will have to be accurate with information I put on my magazine,
because if I put inaccurate information in my magazine such as, there will be a music festival in
Reo on the 15th of June and I got the date wrong it will mean that all those people will have
waited their time and money travelling to there , when the festivals in 2 months from then. This
means that all those people who went their based on the information they got from my magazine
can use this editors code of conduct to sue us for compensation.
The editors code of conduct also states that the magazine has the give opportunities for replies,
such as if an inaccuracy has been made in your magazine people will need to be able to contact
you regarding that and therefor you need to give back a reply to their complaints fi reasonable.
Also when I am interviewing the artist in my magazine I am not allowed to harass them in
anyways such as continuously call them up or ask uncomfortable questions within the interview.
Furthermore I am not allowed to use any form of discrimination within my magazine such as
stating that a curtain race is better than the other, or use any racist comments within my
magazine.

62. How to make a complaint
To make a complaint fill
out the form with details
of your complaint such as
the publisher of the
magazine which your
complaining against, what
the complaint is on, how
did this effect you and why
you are making the
complaint. You also have to
give your information such
as contact details.
https://www.ipso.co.uk/oxbxApps/app/complaint1.html
63. Complaint procedure
1. When a complaint is sent to IPSO they assess it to see if a code has been
breached or not.
2. If the complaint is valid and a code has been breached the details of your
complaint will be passed onto the editors of the magazine were they will
be given a chance to resolve your problem directly.
3. If after contacting the magazine directly and not getting resolve, IPSO
will pass on the information to the Complaints Committee, and they will
write to the magazine and ask to respond back to the complaint. The
Complaints Committee may ask the person with the complaint to give
more information to back up the complaint better.
4. If the complaint is still unresolved the Complaints Committee can make a
judgement on what the magazine can do to resolve the matter such as
make corrections to what the complaint was on.
5. After all those processes you are still unhappy you can request a review
by the Complaints Reviewer, which is a post which must be filled by a
IPSO member such as Richard Hill MBE.

64. HSE
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is like the
watchdogs for work related health, safety and
illnesses. The HSE work to prevent work related
injuries, illnesses or death all across Great Britain.
The work place needs to have health and safety
checks and workers must be informed on how to
act when a threat or incident occurs.
HSE will help me gain compensation if any arm is
brought to me in my working environment such as
if I was to trip over and break my leg because of
wires laying around unprotected in the workplace.

had to follow. However there were some hazards
such as the ground being wet as it had rained and
therefore it was easy to slip and injure myself.
• Furthermore I went to the location of where I
intended to take the photos before hand and
made sure that there were no hazard problem
that would affect us and prevent us from taking
our photos.
66. Hazards at workplace
All the designing of my magazine was done in a
school classroom and the hazards of working
there that there were wires around which I
could have tripped over and injured myself with
which then I could have used the HSE to cover
me for and get me compensation.
67. Conclusion
• In this LO I have researched the different laws and
regulations needed in the work place and for my magazine
to make sure that my magazine doesn’t break any laws
such as the Editors code of conduct, and also to make sure I
am covered for any injuries caused by a hazard caused at
the workplace which I am not to blame for. Further more I
have shown the ways to create IP for a magazine and how
to prevent your IP from being miss used. I have also looked
at the different legal issues which my impact on my
magazine and also looked at IPSO who take action against
people publishers who break the code, and also
documented on how to make a complaint and the
procedures it goes through.
68.
69. Setting up equipment
I used a Canon EOS 1200D DSLR
Camera to take my photos using.
I made sure that the cameras SD
card had enough memory on it
before I took the pictures in case
if I got to my location and could
only take a few photos because
there wasn’t enough memory on
camera. I also made sure that the
camera was fully charged so that
it didn’t run out of battery while I
was taking my photos, and if it
did I also made sure to bring the
camera along so that I could plug
it in and charge it at the location.
71. Fonts
I used the website dafont.com to get my fonts from because it had a variety of fonts to
pick from, also because I was able to download the font of the website and still be able to
sue it on Photoshop.

73. Draft article
• I have conducted a interview with the artists
and documented this in word document
which will be linked in the blog page
74. Pre-Production front cover
I have followed most of
the things included on my
front cover draft however I
didn’t include something's
like the logo and the pugs.
This is because my
magazine of inspiration
doesn’t include both the
logo or pugs on their front
cover, and therefore I
thought it would be best
not to included it either to
make my magazine look as
similar as possible to my
magazine of inspiration.
75. Double page
spread
My double page spread
followed most of the
structures laid out on the
draft, however I had to put
some of the interview
content on the left hand side
as well because it wouldn’t
all fit onto one page.
However I have kept most of
the structures presented in
the daft similar such as the
image of the artist if on the
side of the page and one
page is filled with content
and no pictures.
76. Test Photography
This is the image I have used
for my front cover and from
the original image compared
to the front cover you can see
that the image has been
edited. I used photo shop to
make the artists skin look more
smother and took away the
background because my
magazine of inspiration never
had images as backgrounds
only certain shades of colours.
77. Step by step Photoshop – Front cover
I started of the creation of
my front cover by opening
up Adobe Photoshop on A4
template
78. Then I used the rectangle tool
to draw a rectangle the same
size as my canvas.
I then used the burn tool to go
around the sides to create a
darker faded border. By doing
this it makes it look as if all the
attention is focused in the
centre because that’s where it’s
the lightest
79. I then imported the image of the
artist by clicking file then open and
chose the image I wanted.
Then is used the quick
selection tool to crop
out the background
80. After I had cropped out
the background I used
the eraser tool and went
around the outline of
the image. I turned the
hardness now to 0% so
that I would get a faded
affect, so that it would
look like it fades into the
background.
81. Then I found a font I like of
dafont.com and installed it
onto the computer and used
it to type up my mast head.
82. I then used the text tool
to insert the strap line
above the masthead
83. I then used the text
tool again to insert
the cover lines
around the main
image.
84. I had already created a
barcode on Firefox so all
I had to do was import it
onto my page by
opening the image up on
Photoshop
85. I completed the creation of
my magazine front cover by
then drawing lines using the
line tool to fill in some
spaces between the cover
lines.
I then added in the date of the
magazine release date and the
headline using the text tool and
made the headline a bigger
font.
86. Finished front cover

Barcode is placed in the corner so it
takes up little space and stays out of
the way of other contents
Strapline placed at the top above the
masthead so when the reader looks at
masthead they will see the strapline above it
87. Step by step Photoshop – Double page
spread
I started the design of
my double spread by
opening up a blank
double page spread
template.
88. I then used the
rectangle tool to
draw 2 identically
sized rectangles to
show the 2 pages.
Then I used the paint
bucket tool to fill in
the rectangles with
the colours I wanted.
89. I then imported a image
of my artist and put a
drop shadow affect and
outer glow around the
artist so that the artist’s
black hair doesn’t blend
into the black
background.
90. After I had put in the
main images and effects
around it I entered the
page numbers, web links,
twitter name and Stinger
logo using the text tool.
91. Then using the text tool I
inserted a artist quote,
artist name and
interview heading.
For the artist quote I
used an effect on it so
that the white text wont
merge in with the white
t-shirt of the artist. The
effect I added was a
stroke effect which
caused a border around
the text.
92. I continued to use the text
tool to insert the rest of
my interview into the
double page spread.
93. I used the pen tool to draw
a box for content on the left
hand side page because I
wanted to enter a drop
down capital and so in order
to do that I needed a chunk
at the top to be cut out so
my drop down capital could
go in. So the pen tool let me
draw my box and the way I
wanted with a chunk
missing at the top.
94. I then used the text tool to
draw a box which would be
big enough to fit into the
missing chunk at the top of
the content box I made by
using the pen tool. Then I
increased the size of the
letter ‘O’ so it would be big
as the box.
95. I then finalised my double
page spread design by adding
in the rest of the content
using the text tool.
96. Finished DPS Drop down
capital makes
the content
look more
appealing than
just blocks of
text.
Quotes from

image to connote the artists
growth in success.
Social media links to
contact magazine
through social media
Heading placed at the top to
along side with magazine logo
so readers can notice the
brand logo more easily.
97. Tools used fro accurate content – Pen
tool
I used the pen tool so I could create text box
which went around the quote in the middle and
the drop down capital, because I felt that this
looked more professional than having a normal
square which left lots of space around the sides
so that the text would go over the quote and the
drop down capital. To make a box using the pen
tool all I had to do was click at the point around
where I wanted my text box to be and go around
the quote and drop down capital so the text
could overlay them.
98. DTP tools used
Selection tool – used to
crop certain areas of
images such as the
background
Eye drop tool – used to
select colours of images
Crop tool – used to select
a rectangular areas and
crop it out
Spot healing brush tool –
used to get rid of spots of
artists and giving skin a
smoother texture
Brush tool – used to paint
and colour objects or to
draw
Eraser tool – used to rub
out areas of images
Gradient tool – used to
create a colour gradient in
an image so it goes from
one colour to another or
from a dark shade to
lighter shade
Dodge tool – used to
make images lighter by
tinting the colours
Pen tool – used to draw
text boxes which are
wrapped around objects
Horizontal type tool –
used to type content
Rectangle tool – used to
draw shapes
99. Quick selection tool
I used the quick selection tool to crop out
the background of my image so that I could
just use the image and create my own
background. With the quick selection tool I
could easily select certain sections of my
image and then just use the eraser tool to
rub things out which I didn’t need.
100. Eye dropper tool
I used the eye dropper tool to use certain
colours from my images, such as if I
wanted to blend the skin tone more with
a certain skin texture within the image I
could use the eye drop tool to select that
colour and use the paint brush to use
that colour on the image.
101. Conclusion
In this LO I have discussed the ways in which my I
created my magazine front cover and double page
spread using Photoshop. I have also talked about
the many different tool and effect I used to product
my final front cover and double page spread. I have
also looked at the safe working practices to see if
my magazine front cover and DPS followed the
Editors Code of Conduct, as well as talk about the
setting up the equipment and documenting where I
found my fonts to use on my production of the DPS
and front cover of my magazine.
102.
103. Deadlines
• I was not great in meeting deadlines because
it took me time to find the information on my
magazine and insert the relevant information
into my work. This was mainly because my
magazine was not being sold in stores
anymore and the magazine as going bankrupt
and about to close down, so it was a but
difficult gathering information on it.
104. Production
• I used Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 for the production
of my magazine.
• I was very basic with the uses of tools on my
cover page, this is because I was not experienced
with the software and therefore didn’t know how
to use most of the tools properly. However as I
used it more and more I became more familiar
with using the tools in Photoshop and therefore
when It came to making my DPS I was able to use
more effects and features.
105. Fonts
I used the website dafont.com to get my fonts from because it had a variety of fonts to
pick from, also because I was able to download the font of the website and still be able to
sue it on Photoshop.
107. Masthead
• The masthead is very well aligned this could connote that the
magazine itself is very organised and gets its information out in a
very orderly manor. Although it is still in alignment there are some
rebellious letters which stick out of the perfectly aligned letter such
as the ‘N’ and ‘R’ in the masthead ‘STINGER’. This could connote
that the magazine can some times extend further than its limits to
get the audience the best quality information as possible.
• Another aspect I like about this font is that its spacing between
letters are sometimes varied such as the gap between the ‘E’ and
‘R’ have different space width to the ‘T’ and ‘I’ this makes the
masthead look a bit more unique because from a quick look it looks
normal but when you look more closely into it you can tell the
difference, this could reflect on the magazine about how by first
glimpse it may look like an average music magazine however once
you start to read more deeply into it you can tell the difference in
quality and great standard of the information displayed.
108. House style
My magazine will consist mostly of the colours grey, white and yellow.
My magazines background will be a dark grey with masthead being a
pale yellow, which will contrast on another and make the mast head
stand out more because it has a more brighter colour. I will have grey
and white text for my magazine front cover because by doing this I can
show to people that it is a mature magazine by showing them that it
doesn’t need to use many different bright colours to make it stand out
and that it can look appealing to my target audience with simple colours.
For my double page spread I will have black content because I want
people to be able to easily read it so if I put it light shade of yellow it
would be difficult to read and not very appealing to look at. The reason
why I have chosen different shades of grey is because I can’t things
around the artist to be in s dull colour and the artist and the masthead
has to shine through with their bright colours. This will help distinguish
the brand and help the magazine be easily spotted on shelf's in stores.

109. Safe working practice
While creating my magazine I had to make sure I
wasn’t breaking any laws such as the Editors Code
of Conduct, so therefore I made sure that when
Photoshoping my artist that I didn’t change the
appearance of my artist too much. The only
changes o made to the artist image was that I got
rid of some spots on the artists face, smoothened
his skin texture and made him a bit lighter. As you
can see from the image of the magazine cover and
the original image that there aren't any ,major
changes that have been ,made to the artist that
changes his appearance, this means that I have
obeyed the Editors Code of conduct. Furthermore I
made sure to get consent from the artist before
editing some of his image on Photoshop. Also
although the background was of my own property I
made sure to remove it because I didn’t need it for
my magazine.
I used the pen tool so I could create text box which
went around the quote in the middle and the drop
down capital, because I felt that this looked more
professional than having a normal square which left
lots of space around the sides so that the text
would go over the quote and the drop down capital.
To make a box using the pen tool all I had to do was
click at the point around where I wanted my text
box to be and go around the quote and drop down
capital so the text could overlay them.
110. Colour swatches
I kept my house style 3 colours
through out my magazine which was
tinted yellow, grey and black. I used
the eye drop tool to select the 3
colours because I was constantly
using them through out the designing
of my magazine pages and I added
them to the swatches. This is because
I needed them through out my
magazine designs and using the eye
drop tool to keep selecting the
colours was becoming too much of a
hassle so I added them the swatches
and gave named them so I could easly
access them.
111. Changes
I made quite a lot of
changes of my front
cover because it didn't
look professional
enough. So with the
feedback I got from my
teacher I developed my
front cover to become
more professional
looking. I made changes
such as making the
artists skin smoothers
by using the patch tool
and also making it
brighter by using the
dodge tool. I also added
in more cover lines to
make the page look
more full up and edited
the logo.
112. Changes made – front cover
Added more cover lines
Changed position of main
headline and made quotation
marks yellow
Edited the barcode to
look more professional
Enlarged the masthead
Minimized the size of
the artist so you could
see more of the artist
Made the artists face
more brighter and skin
texture more smoother
Added in arrows to the
cover lines to make it
look more professional
Faded the border of the
artist to smoothen out
edges
Edited and centralised
the strapline
113. Changes - DPS
Changed position of
quote
Added in a quote
Edited the size of the font
and drop down capital
Added Facebook link
Aligned the headline with
the logo and ‘exclusive’
Added in extra image of
the artist
114. Conclusion
In this LO I have discussed the editing I have
made to my magazine front cover and double
page spread to make it look more professional. I
have also talked about the fonts I'm going to use
and the house style of my magazine.
Furthermore I have discussed if I had been able
to meet deadlines and what I used to creates my
magazine front cover and double page spreads.
