I must learn… <ul><li>Sociolect is the way someone speaks according to their place in society. </li></ul><ul><li>Any of these are factors: age, gender, media, education, aspiration, class, occupation. </li></ul><ul><li>RP is received pronunciation – the ‘correct’ version of English. </li></ul><ul><li>Prescriptive means to be judging language as right or wrong. </li></ul><ul><li>Any of: religion, politics, law, science, sport, journalism </li></ul><ul><li>Taboo: anything rude/unacceptable in polite conversation. </li></ul><ul><li>Euphemism: anything that is a polite way of saying it. </li></ul>
