Essay The Best Way to Grow Up
Growing up Growing up is something we all have to face regardless of our age, gender, social or
cultural status. Growing up is a gradual ladder toward changing (developing) from a naïve child into
a mature adult. This change is shaped by the influential people and experiences we have met along
the way. Growing up is not an easy process in most cases, but with proper support and positive
guidance growing up can be the most rewarding experience. Through the journey of growing up we
adopt a sense of responsibility and independence. Growing up is the difference between being told
what to do and what decisions to make to making your own decisions and choosing the path you
think is right. Becoming independent is one of the most frightening ... Show more content on

A couple years later my mom starting dating a man who is now my stepdad. He never had kids of
his own making it harder for him to communicate and understand a young person like myself. I
would always try to act older when I was with him, maybe I could tell he had difficulty interacting
with young kids. As a kid I would only talk to my mom it was to the point where I would tell my
mom things to say to other people for me, my stepdad being in the picture taught me how to interact
with someone besides my mom. He played a huge role in shaping me into a young adult. Fast
forward a couple years to 2013, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was not and still is
not an easy thing to have to deal with. This lady who was always this strong person who wouldn't
take crap from anyone has now been beaten down too sick to get out of bed. Our roles have
switched now I take care of her, I lie with her for countless hours making sure she is okay just as she
did when I was a kid. My mom comes to me for security and reassurance now, I have to be there for
her and stay strong. I had to learn to talk to her without crying every time I looked at her. When you
were a child your parent crying was one of the scariest things so I have had to do the same for her.
This has ultimately pushed me to young adult hood. I had to deal with this huge emotional disaster
and the woman who I usually run to for advice was the center of the

As for the second couple, it comprises of Chandini, a Canadian–born Sri Lankan woman and her
French–Canadian boyfriend, Jon (see Photo 2). Chandini and Jon are in their late twenties and have
been dating each other for over 4 years. The couple first met at a party thrown by mutual friends.
They will be moving in together for the first time during the summer. While Chandini was not
seeking her parents' approval in regard to her moving out, she was still very nervous to announce to
them that she was leaving. Her task was made easier by an older sister who had eased her parents
into the whole dating non–Sri Lankan people. Prior to the beginning of her relationship with Jon,
Chandini's elder sister had herself been dating a French–Canadian ... Show more content on

The reason for that was because Sara hated Jeremy's family and tried to avoid being with them as
much as possible while Jon's parents did not live in the same city as the couple so it was not possible
to meet with them. The couples did not give the researcher permission to interact with them outside
of these fields. The researcher was not able to meet with the couples' friends and see how they
interact among their peers. While this would have provided interesting data on the subject, the
priority of the research was on their parents and so, the lack of data on their peers did not negatively
impact the research.
For the participant observation, the couples were given the choice of deciding on the meeting place
as well as the time and date. The goal was to let them be in control as much as possible as a means
to make them be comfortable with the research. All the interviews that were conducted with the
couples were informal. This was done purposely so that the couples would be at ease and think that
we were having a normal conversation as friends and I, as the researcher, was simply curious about
their relationship. This is an essential part of the research for "the degree to which trust and
cooperation (rapport) are established influences to large extent the degree to which information
gathered in participant observation is accurate and dependable" (Dewalt & Dewalt 2011: 47). The
intention was for them to not think of it as a formal

A Short Story : A Story?
We crouched down behind the rusty blue car trying to silence our breathing. I laid flat across the
pavement so I could see the opening of the alley from between the two tires. The shadows of the
man and woman crept closer and closer from Main street to the opening of the alley. Then, they
stopped staring through the alley to the other side, trying to pick up on any movement.
"You said they went this way Ron, where the hell are they?" She pushed passed him as she stormed
off down the street angerly.
"They did, I saw them take off down there." The man squinted in our direction but never came any
closer. The sounds of the couples screaming echoed through the abandoned town and the alley. I
turned my head to look at my younger sister Allie laying next to me trying to hold everything in. Her
tear stained cheeks quivered and her bright blue eyes filled with tears as she stared back at me.
Allie began trembling and started to whimper, "I, Im, Im scared sissy. Take me home."
"I know Allie, I promise we will go home we just need to find Xavier first."
"Where is he sissy? Where is he? Where are we? Why can't we go home?"
I started to realize I didn't have an answer to a single one of those questions, all I knew was that
Xavier and Allie were my world and I wouldn't lose them. "It's going to be okay Allie, everything
will be okay. Pinky promise me you will be strong for Xavier, okay?"
"Okay Peyton, I pinky promise you. And then we will go home and see momma and daddy, right

Social Media Isn T All Bad For Kids By Kelly Wallace
Social Media Madness
Introduction
Social media sites are a few of the most visited sites every day. Everyone wants to know what
everyone else is up to. People can follow their favorite celebrities every move and see what their
friends are doing with every update. Few people go days without checking their online profiles on
popular social media sites such as, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Many people joined these
networks to keep up with old friends from the past and keep contact with everyone in their life and
young people use them every day to check status updates and post selfies. In the article, " The
upside of selfies: Social media isn't all bad for kids", Kelly Wallace claims that social media has a
positive effect on young people. However, research shows that social media impacts young people's
emotional health negatively.
Article Summary and Analysis
The author of "The upside of selfies: Social media isn't all bad for kids", Kelly Wallace, states that
there are positive effects of social media on young people. She uses the source of another mom to
say that social media can build self–confidence because of all of the positive comments on photos
and posts. Wallace also uses a report by Common Sense Media to say that one in five teens believed
that social media made them feel more confident. Wallace also stated that teens believed social
media made their friendships better. She quotes KidzVuz co–founder Rebecca Levey to say that

The Odd Couple
The play The Odd Couple began on a summer night in Oscar Madison's apartment. It is one of eight
large room affairs on Riverside Drive in New Jersey. The building is 35 years old with high ceilings,
walk in closets and thick walls. There is a living room with doors that go into the kitchen, a
bedroom, a bathroom, and a hallway that leads to other bedrooms. There is no proof of women in
the apartment for months. There are dirty dishes, old clothes and newspapers, empty bottles, glasses
filled and unfilled, laundry, and mail. The furniture is nicely picked out but it it is placed
unorganized in the apartment. The setting is important because that's where's the play is taken place
and where Oscar and Felix will live together. Inside the apartment are 6 men play poker; Murray,
Roy, Speed, Oscar, Vinnie, Oscar, and Felix. Oscar Madison is the protagonist. He is a forty three
year old pleasant man who enjoys life to the fullest. He enjoys the poker game at his house once a

The author expressed this theme because in the end of the phone call with Oscar and his ex wife
Blanche he said how he paid back all of his alimony. Felix, from the beginning of him moving in
with Oscar was there for him to help him be able to pay him back. With Felix's help although he
might have irritated Oscar, in the end it was for a good reason. Also, in the beginning of the book
Oscar knew Felix was in need of a home and good place to stay and Oscar took him in very quickly.
Even though their ups and downs by the end of the play they were friends again. Therefore I think
the author conveys the theme of friends will always be there for each other, through thick and thin,
and friends do things for the better of the other

Ashes By Susan Pfeffer Analysis
Hudson Troyer Mrs. Ragusky ELA 04 September 2017 Ashes Big Decision "Thou shalt not steal,"
(Exodus 20:15 KJV). Ashleigh is faced with a decision that could change her life forever. In the
story, "Ashes", Ashleigh has to make a huge decision whether to steal money for her Dad's new job
or stay with mom for the rest of her life. Ashleigh didn't take the money because she doesn't see her
Dad very often, she can't always count on him, and her mom is always prepared. To start off,
Ashleigh only sees her Dad Tuesday and Thursday nights. Ashleigh has no idea what he could be
doing when she isn't with him. He could be dealing drugs or going out with someone or lots of other
bad stuff. According to Susan Pfeffer in Ashes, "Mom, who was still working ... Show more content

This one small reason why Dad can't always be counted on. Finally, Ashleigh's mom is always
prepared for almost anything. She brings extra thing almost everywhere she goes. She also has set
aside emergency money, which is what Ashleigh is supposedly to "borrow'' for her dad. According
to Susan Beth Pfeffer in Ashes, "Unless there's an earthquake or Martians invade. I think we can
gamble neither of those things will happen before Friday.,"(Pfeffer 4). This supports the point that
Ashleigh's dad is trying to talk her into taking the money by illustrating that Mom is always
prepared. In the story Ashes, Susan Pfeffer states,"With Mom, there are a lot of rainy days and she
takes a grim sort of pleasure in being ready for them.," (Pfeffer 1). This shows Ashleigh describing
how prepared her mom is for many situations. According to Susan in Ashes, " The flashlight with
working batteries for a blackout. The extra quarters when the laundry isn't quite dry.," (Pfeffer 1)

Different Approaches For A Infertile Couples
Different Approaches Used to Treat Infertile Couples Research on applicability of specific models of
couple therapy for couples facing issues around infertility and treatment is limited because of the
array of psychological and interpersonal problems the couples face. One approach researched is
cognitive behavioral marital therapy (CBMT). According to theorists of cognitive–behavior, change
in behaviors within a couple arises through marital distress (Myers & Wark, 1996). The behaviors
occur disproportionately damaging to the relationship when compared to the benefit of the behavior
(Myers & Wark, 1996). The applicability of this model in addressing problems related to infertility
experienced by couples can address a broad range of issues: individual response to unconscious
thoughts, and self–evaluation and perceptions, sexual dysfunction, and function of communication
in a marital relationship (Myers & Wark, 1996). An argument against the use of CBMT in working
with couples with issues of infertility is that the focus on behavior of the approach lacks sympathy.
For this particular population of couples, the approach may not be perceived as suitable to meet their
needs in struggling with an emotionally charged issue (Myers & Wark, 1996). Other approaches
used to address infertility issues couples face include national organizations. One such organization
is RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association which provides a variety of supports to couples
and families. They

Perfect Life And Perfect Families
Perfect Life and Perfect Families What is a perfect life or perfect family? From an outsider looking
in, what does that life look like for you? Is the pressure of comparing your family with others and
realizing that you do not measure up to what you see? We all have dreams of what our ideal life
would be. Sometimes these are prompted by the "model" families that we have seen, or perhaps they
are the dreams we had of what our own family should be like. Is there such a thing as perfect
families or the perfect life? In the movie Juno and American Beauty some of these families try so
hard to look picture perfect, however they are far from it. Remember that looks can be deceiving
and comparison unfair. In the movie Juno, sixteen year old Juno is the type of girl that beats to her
own drum, and doesn't really care what other people think of her. Juno ends up pregnant from her
boyfriend, Paulie Bleeker. So she decides to have the baby and give the baby up for adoption. Juno
finds the perfect couple to adopt her baby. She finds Mark and Vanessa Loring, a yuppie couple
living in the suburbs. Juno likes the Loring's and in some respect has found what looks to be kindred
spirits in Mark, with whom she shares a love of grunge music and horror films. Vanessa is a little
more uptight and is the one in the relationship seemingly most eager to have a baby. Juno enters a
closed adoption contract with the Loring's. Throughout the film you find out just how imperfect

Mentoring: The Only Way To Succeed In This World
The only way to succeed in this world is to make connections that will help you in the future or
better you in some way or another. A great way to do that is by getting a mentor who has gone
through what you are going through and help you through it. Because at its most basic level,
mentoring is there to help guarantee a young person that there is someone who cares about them. A
child is not alone in dealing with day–to–day challenges. And for me I was fortunate enough to meet
my connection in high school. My first couple years in high school I had only heard of him, never
sat down and had a conversation with him. Then one day my junior year of high school he reached

Blackett as a cool, understanding teacher who truly cared about the future of his students, and others
just saw him as a man who students did not want to upset as then they would have to sit and listen to
one of his infamous forty–five minutes lectures on what you did wrong, why they should know
better, and where to go on from there. It didn't matter who you were or how good you were
eventually everybody got one of his "talks" and most people would disregard everything he said but
if you truly listened to what he had to say you would come out better in the end. As a person who
has endured the "talks" for 2 years I can honestly say I have learned a lot about how to conduct
myself as a man and how to deal with my problems the right way. When you're in school it seems as
if every teacher you encounter is just there to teach you how to pass their tests and could care less
about you or your future. That's one thing I never got from Mr. Blackett he was the closest thing I
had to a parental figure outside of home and he treated me as if I was one of his children whether
that be in a good or bad way. He influenced me in a positive way. And I think mentors have a
valuable role to play not only in the student's lives and future but ultimately benefit the community
at large. And I am truly grateful for everything he has done for my family and

Speech: Long Distance Relationship Is Manageable?
"LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP IS MANAGEABLE!" A very good (morning) to the lecturer
in charge, Mr/Mrs/Ms_____________ and the audience. On this pleasant day, I stand before you to
deliver a speech entitled "Long distance relationship is manageable!". As we all know, a relationship
can be defined as having a constant connection with a person be it family members, friends or
acquaintances. However, the relationship I'm discussing about today is on the relationship between
different sex, what we called as boy–girl relationship. This particular relationship can be divided
into the short distance relationship we see every day or a long distance relationship. Long distance
relationships are particularly tough for couples as they do not see each other ... Show more content

Many a times one of us would compare our partner to another person which will indirectly hurt
them and also ruin this relationship. Each relationship is God– given and everyone is different. No
two man or even twins can have the same character. It is the mutual understanding and constant
perseverance that brings out the best in a couple. A couple can have many flaws but still maintain a
great relationship that envies others. From a religious point of view, constantly pray for your
relationship helps a lot as both has a same goal, which is to have a sweet relationship. Nevertheless,
you must also be ready to work hard for your long distance relationship because it brings a whole lot
of challenges while moving along the way. Arguments and disagreements or even desperately
hoping for the presence of your partner are some challenges you will face. However, all these could
be overcome by love, faith and mutual trust. Your relationship is special, never compare it to others!
Not many couples can undergo the hardship, so be

Essay on The Portrayal of Youth in the Media
The Portrayal of Youth in the Media
Introduction
I am going to write a peace of coursework on how young children and the media portrays young
adults. I will see how different media pieces give their views on how the youth of today and how
they portray them as thugs and disturbers of the peace or as obliging but misunderstood people.
Development
I am going to study the two pieces of media. The first one I will analyse is an article by BBC news
Online: UK which was realest on Wednesday 20th of March 2002, the other piece is an article from
Edinburgh evening news. It was written by Bernadette Monagham, it was released on Friday 27th
August 2004 the first article is about how two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The writer also uses past criminal offence that they have been charged for like 'the brothers appeared
before flax Bourton magistrates after breaching behaviour orders imposed two years ago. They were
prohibited to go in the town centre and they broke the ban many many times. The writer only looked
at the boys from one angle, he only writes about how bad they are and giving the impression that
they should be locked up somewhere, anywhere.
Further development 2
The second article is telling that how much crimes rates are decreasing, not increasing and how
tagging young offenders send the wrong message to the public. Ms Monagham gives the message
that youth crime is decreasing and that the public are only concerned with the crimes that are going
on and not enough concern for how much crime has decreased by youths. It also speaks about how
offenders come from a background of no love given to them by there families. It says that young
offenders haven't been given much attention and they commit crimes to have some attention of
people and especially by their families. The attitude towards this article is that it is trying to put
across the message that youth crimes are decreasing and the approach that the writer is using is by
giving an example of a 10 year old and asking if it if fair to prosecuting someone of such a young
age and what affects it will have on that person

The Pros And Cons Of Traditional Expatriation
3. Literature Review
3.1. How and why is this form of expatriation different from „traditional expatriation"?
Expatriation is a complicated and complex process which is influenced by a number of matters,
especially the qualification and fit in the subsidiary are mostly influenced by the expatriate
him–/herself. However, how well an expatriate adjusts to the foreign environment is often also
influenced by how well his/her family, if they are coming with him/her, are able to adapt to the new
surroundings. In the following the terms "traditional expatriation" as well as "dual–career couple"
also referred to as DCC, will be defined, furthermore a number of differentiating reasons will be

even though the relocation would be favorable for one of the partners, if it is causing a net loss
which is of greater magnitude for the other partner foregoing the opportunity maximizes family
utility (Bielby and Bielby, 1992). As a result this model proposes that dual–earning families migrate
less than families with a single earner (Mincer, 1978).
The second model is based on the social exchange theory (Emerson, 1976) and suggests similar
predictions. However, it differs from the one previously mentioned, as it introduces the concept of
power as the main tool through which decisions are made. Consequently, the partner with the greater
bargaining power (often determined through income) is likely to dictate the outcome of a relocation
decision (Hood, 1983).
Thirdly stands the gender–role and provider–role model. Hood (1983) claims that each partner
subscribes to regarding a certain deviation in respect of their roles in a family, which in consequence
affects the process of decision–making. Undoubtedly, this model has experienced great shifts during
the last 20 years from a traditional male dominance as breadwinners to increasing numbers of
primary earning women (Richardson et al,

Enslaved Captive is the Story of a Young African Couple...
The story Enslaved Captive, by Olaudah Equiano was published in 1789, and tells the story of a
young African boy who is kidnaped, taken into slavery and eventually arrives in the Americas where
he is sold to a merchant there. Olaudah, who is portrayed as the young slave, explains in narrative
the horrors that he and other fellow Africans experienced on their journey from Africa to American
where they are meant to be sold and put to work. The article persuades the reader to see from the
point of view of the slave, and to feel what they felt as they were taken from their homeland to be
forced into physical labour in a strange new land. Olaudah Equiano was born in 1745 to the Ibo
people of the Benin Empire, which was located along the Niger River. He was the youngest of the
son's, and was aspired to become chief of his village. Equiano's family owned slaves themselves, but
unlike what he endured in the story, they treated them like they were their own family. Slavery by
what Equiano states was common among most African tribes, and the fear of being enslaved was
widely shared among his people. This is exactly what happened, while their father and others in the
village were working, two men and a woman came and kidnaped Equiano and his sister then fled
into the woods. Equiano never saw his family again. Kidnaping like this were common with all the
tribes. The abductors would wait till the moment when the children were left alone, then they would

The Importance of Family Relationships in "The Young...
In 'The Young Couple', Jhabvala illustrates the difficulties Cathy experiences in family relationships
upon moving to India after her marriage to Naraian, whereas in 'Two Kinds', Amy Tan describes the
difficulties Jing–mei, the heroine, faces in her relationship with her mother. Part of these difficulties
are caused by the 'clash of cultures' that the heroines in both stories experience. Cathy feels that she
does not fit in to Indian culture and Jing–mei has to live with a mother who, at crucial times, shows
that she lives her life according to Chinese principles, whereas Jing–mei prefers the independent,
American lifestyle.

Naraian's family seems to control the couple's lives as everything that she does is the subject of
"scrupulous family concern" and because Naraian is annoyed with Indian families, who will "not
allow a man to take his own decisions but regard it as their right to take them for him". This
interference of the family is important as a dramatic tool, to the progress of 'The Young Couple', as it
is this interference that begins to create problems for Naraian and Cathy, as they came to India with
a "life of purpose" and a "challenge" awaiting them, and after the family start to interfere in the
couple's affairs, they seem to be prevented from doing anything worthwhile.
Their problems seem to revolve around the idea that Cathy cannot live this 'family–orientated'
lifestyle. She is unable to get a job for herself, and we know this affects her, as she begins to show
signs of boredom; "twisting and untwisting the end of her golden plait" and she considers her
current situation "depressing". She cannot get a job because the sort of jobs she would be permitted
to do in India depends on her "background and social standing", and she is not qualified for these
jobs. This shows how the social standing of the family even influences decisions, such as finding a
job, which would be an individual decision in

The Human Struggle In Yasujiro Ozu's Tokyo Story
Generations don't battle, they mostly clash into each other. We see this in our very own lives, where
parents bring up their past and say, "If only you knew how good you have it!". This will forever be
somewhat a problem in the past, present, and future of our lives. One generation will always be
underestimated or beyond correct then the other. In Yasujiro Ozu's film Tokyo Story we see constant
clashing of the elderly and the youth. Ozu's message of how the generations have changed is a way
of him defining to us what the human struggle is. Due to the character's actions in the way they treat
each other we can pick up on the struggles that they are having and see the human struggle in the
film. At the start of the film, Ozu shows us two of the main characters of the film; Shukichi and
Tomi. We see them packing their bags to go on a trip. They are going to see their children whom,
they haven't seen in a long while. We can see that Ozu is showing us that becoming old is one
struggle that most humans fear, but of course it must occur in our lives. When the old slow couple
are packing, Shukichi asks Tomi where the inflatable pillow is and Tomi responds and says that she
gave it to him. With aging comes forgetfulness and stubbornness; and when Tomi says she gave it to
him he starts to say no you didn't, you still have it. Later we see it appear in his bag where he said it
wasn't and nothing is said when he finds it. It is simply brushed away with no argument to follow.

The lack of resources, social support, and challenges in attaining educational goals, increased the
vulnerability of the depressive symptoms/disorders that occur during adolescence, (Eshbaugh,
Lempers, & Luze, 2006). The depressive symptoms were found more in women than men, although
symptoms of depression during the prenatal period were also exhibited by the male partners.
Prenatal depressive symptoms in men have been associated with depression in their female partners,
suggesting the possibility of reciprocal influence (Field et al., 2006). Preliminary findings suggest
that the younger the father the more the significant the depressive symptoms found in the men.
Factors that contributed to depressive symptoms negative parent–child relationships and
abandonment issues. It was reported that the samples of the young adult participants were reported
to have an increased insecure romantic attachment. The attachment was assessed by a process called
36–item Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory. Which is a questionnaire that is used to
evaluate the construct of the attachment between the young couples. The participants have to rate 36
statements on a scale from 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly disagree). Of those 36 items, 17 were
avoidant attachment and 19 were anxious attachment. Avoidant attachment is the tendency to
emotionally distance oneself from their partner and anxious attachment is the tendency to form a

The Negative Effects Of Pornography
With the surge of wider–spread accessibility to the internet on mobile phones and laptops comes a
surge in the accessibility and viewing of pornography. Much research has been done to study how
such an increase in pornography consumption is impacting the marriage relationship. Some findings
have indicated that users incur serious negative effects, including a 25% higher divorce rate, are
101% more likely to be unfaithful to a spouse, and were 12% less likely to describe their marriage
as 'very happy' (Doran & Price, 2014). Interestingly, various studies have also noted that the effects
may be different for men than they are for women, stating that "for women who viewed
pornography in ranges between "2–3 times a month" and "once a day or more," their marital quality
was actually higher than those who never viewed pornography..." (Perry, 2017). Considering such
contradictory findings, it can be difficult for couples to know how pornography use plays into a
healthy marriage, if it does at all. Pornography use, at the very least, has been shown to create
conflict and stress between spouses if the non–using partner is more religious or has negative views
surrounding pornography. Is has also been linked with lower self–esteem in women. The affects of
this activity must be viewed not only through an individual lens, but through a couple's view. Taking
such a view may reveal that regardless of the empirical outcomes of porn use, perceptions, even, can
have a serious negative impact

Is your reaction to the reenacted scenes different than to the written one? My reaction to the 2001
film is not much different from how I read the play myself. That is until I reached the end of the
film. Things became seemingly different from what I would have expected. The 1952 and 1986
interpretations of Oscar Wilde's play were more elegant than the 2001 film. My reaction to this
version was much different from my initial perspective. This interpretation of the play seems to be
presented in a more serious and dramatic manner. In what ways did both interpretations change the
original? Was it a change for the better or worse in your opinion? The 2001 interpretation of Oscar
Wilde's play seemed to be portrayed similarly to how I originally perceived. However, there are a
few comedic scenes added for the enjoyment of the audience. The film portrays Miss Prism running
away and fainting due to a shock of grief endured so unexpectedly. The scene makes for an
exaggerated yet amusing scene. In my opinion, this scene made the interpretation better. In fact, her
running away build excitement and curiosity up. I also enjoyed the scene of John and Algernon
serenading the girls, in hopes that they would come down and forgive the two of them. This light–
hearted scene helped make their dilemma more enjoyable and less upsetting. The 1952 and 1986
version of "The Importance of Being Earnest" were not as funny as the other interpretation. The
scene of Lady Augusta on her way to find

Relationships In The Movie Juno
Jason Reitman's 2007 motion picture, "Juno" follows 16–year old Juno McGruff, through the trials
and tribulations of teen pregnancy and the exploration of choices and decisions she makes after a
one–time encounter with her friend and admirer Paulie Bleecker. The story follows the journey Juno
commences in finding what she believes to be the ideal adoptive parents for her unborn child. What
Juno finds is Vanessa and Mark Loring's advertisement in the Penny Saver newspaper and to Juno
they appear to be the perfect couple and model parents. Throughout the movie, the audience comes
to realize that what appears to be a perfect couple is essentially incorrect as Vanessa and Mark is a
couple who have the biggest gender differences of all the couples in the movie.
The relationship between potential adoptive parents, Vanessa and Mark, appears to be noticeably
complex. Mark and Vanessa from all appearances have wanted a baby for a long time, as they are
unable to conceive on their own. At first glimpse, Mark and Vanessa seem to be very close with the
couple appearing to dress alike, yet one gets a sense that Vanessa is insecure and anxious while
Mark seems relaxed and self–confident. The viewer gets a glimpse into the actual nature of the
couple's relationship during negotiations for the adoption. Vanessa demonstrates an aura ... Show

Is Ibct Is A Couples Therapy Approach That Helps Couples...
IBCT Model (1 pg. – Lizbette) IBCT is a couples therapy approach that helps couples facing highly
distressed situations (Briggs, Finley & Sprenlete,2015). IBCT stems from Behavioral Couples
Therapy (BCT); however, due to a lack of outcomes that demonstrated successful long–term effects
in couples, IBCT was created (Jacobson & Christensen, 1996). As stated by Jacobson and
Christensen (1996) IBCT consists of elements of emotional acceptance and tolerance to address
issues that BCT was unable to do. This was done to add a sense of sympathy and compassion to
couples experiences and to find solutions to help couples with their problems. According to Briggs
et al. (2015) the steps in treating couples using IBCT involve creating a treatment plan, individual
and joint sessions which occur during the first four sessions of the therapeutic process. During the
assessment session couples are asked to remember and talk about what made them fall in love and
how they met in order to find and highlight strengths the couple holds (Mairal, 2015). After the
assessment and initial phase is conducted, then treatment can begin which consist of building
intimacy, helping couples move from their stuck phase and influencing change (Briggs et al., 2015).
There are several interventions used in IBCT. One of the most important interventions is emotional
acceptance. Emotional acceptance involves empathetic joining around the problem, increase
tolerance of an aversive problem and increase self–care

Do You Have Children?
Do you have children? If not, do you plan on having children in the future? Voluntary childless
marriages have become a growing trend ever since the end of 1964s and have become even bigger at
the start of 2006. According to the U.S. Census Bureau 's Current Population Survey, in 2014 about
47.6 percent of women between the age 15 and 44 had never had children. One might ask what's the
primary cause of childless couples.Childless couples are caused because of young couples seeking
higher levels of educations and positions, the need to become financially stable and have become
more self–centered over the years.
Couples between the ages of 20–40 will be more likely to put off having children until they have

It's quite common for most couples in first world countries to delay having children until they 're

me as it states there is a problem within the educational system in India. This is clearly something I
wanted to learn more about. Secondly, the photograph touched me on a more personal level. During
my visit to India this past December, I visited a school. This image took me right back there as I
recalled seeing students completing work and artwork hanging on the walls. Moreover, the three
young boys in the photograph reminded me of my father. In particular the colour of their uniform
immediately stood out to me, as I had seen that before. It was the same colour that my father and
uncles donned years ago when they attended school. Once I laid eyes on this photograph it stood out

4. Describe the participants of the study. Since you are supposed to choose an article of a cross–
cultural study on families, the participants for this study should have different cultural backgrounds.
What are these cultural backgrounds? What are the demographics of the participants?
Although the study focuses on two main populations, cohabiting and married couples, there are very
distinct trends amongst the members of each of the groups. Hardie and Lucas (2010) emphasize the
correlation between cohabitation and low education levels, low socioeconomic status, young adults,
divorcees, non–whites, and those more supportive of egalitarian gender roles. These traits are also
commonly associated with ethnic minorities. The article also discusses the elevated levels of
domestic violence in low income households attributing above average levels of abuse to economic
hardship and distress. Since cohabiting couples are more likely to be culturally diverse, less
educated, and financially insecure (often living in poverty) compared to married couples, they are
more susceptible to fluctuation in the economy, and therefore more vulnerable to the effects of
economic hardship

Reasons Why Couples Choose Not To In-Person Therapy
Many couples experiencing relationship distress choose not to seek therapeutic help. "Recent
estimates founded that only 19% of intact couples seek any type of counseling or therapy for their
relationship and that only 37% of divorced couples sought any couple therapy prior to divorcing"
(Cicila, Georgia, & Doss, 2014). Reasons why couples decide not to seek treatment are because of
the perceived stigma associated with therapy, financial burden, and logistical concerns, such as
difficulty scheduling appointments or finding transportation to appointments (Cicila et al., 2014).
These findings show couples would rather keep issues between themselves than talk to a therapist
who has the skills and expertise in marital discord. As an alternative ... Show more content on

A limitation to this intervention is that it may not be efficient for distressed couples. Especially for
couples dealing with long–term issues in their relationship. For couple participating in this form of
intervention may not get enough out of the program. they may need more support and guidance. An
internet–based intervention does not provide the same level of therapy as in–person therapy. couples
may benefit from in–person therapeutic intervention more than the on–line program. Couples
struggling with the online program may get frustrated which can escalate the distress in their
relationship. Another limitation is due to the fact that therapy is online, couples may not take the
program seriously and not be fully committed. This leads to the program having a low completion
rate and may not be seen as an effective form of therapy. A limitation of the OurRelationship.com
program is that most of the activities are done individually. If couples are having problems in their
relationship, it would make sense if they performed activities together. If there were a few activities
that are required to be done individually that would be okay. But requiring activities to be done
individually does not seem like it would benefit the couple. activities presumed together allows
couples to communicate and actively work on their

a group of friends, Renee, Sylvie, Mickey, Vera, Olive, all meeting up in Olive Madison's Riverside

They were loud when they had to be and they weren't afraid to be bold with what they did. I could
tell what kind of personality each character had. Aria portrayed the role of Olive and she was clearly
a loud character. She was believable as a character. She was a very bold character and I think she
stood out a lot because of that. Andrea played Florence and I think she showed emotion very well,
like if she was upset or happy. I could clearly see what kind of personality she had. I also think that
she was a bit quiet at times. Mackenzie played the role of Sylvie. I also think she did a wonderful
job at her role. She was also clearly a loud person. I think she stood out a lot. I could see both Olive
and Sylvie were good at showing the humor in things they said. They were both also good with
emotion. Zoe played Renee. I think she was good at showing emotion and fit her character well too.
Overall, I think it was just a good part for her personality. Melissa portrayed the role of Mickey and
I liked how she showed attitude very well. She was also loud enough to hear all the time. Lastly,
Sarah played Vera and it seemed like she played her character well. Her acting was good. I thought
the acting was very good at the beginning when Sylvie screamed "Olive" when they needed help at
the game. I liked this part because she was loud enough to be heard and it seemed like she practiced
it enough to be good at it. I think that added to her character's personality also. You could hear that
she seriously wanted Olive to get out in the living

Literary Elements In A & P
Life is always about making important decisions that could change your life completely. Like the
story A&P, Sammy made a huge decision to quit his job due to his boss being rude to three young
girls wearing bathing suits. John Updike used several literary elements to make the story stand out
and for people to relate to Sammy. The most important elements that is used in this story is setting,
point of view, and characters. Firstly, setting plays a crucial part of the story because of where and
when the story takes place. This story takes place around the 1950's in the United States near
Boston. In the story, it read "It's not as if we're on the Cape; we're north of Boston and there's people
in this town haven't seen the ocean for twenty years." (Updike) This quote demonstrates of why the
locals in the town where so upset to see the three young girls wearing only their bathing suits in the
supermarket. This also takes place in a much older generation that is not okay with people walking
around with revealing clothing. That is why Sammy's boss, Lengel was so upset with the ... Show

A&P is in first person perspective and is portrayed by Sammy the nineteen–year–old cashier. You
can easily tell that the point of view is based on a nineteen–year–old due to the first sentence. It
reads "In walks these three girls in nothing but bathing suits. I'm in the third check–out slot, with my
back to the door, so I don't see them until they're over by the bread." (Updike) The way that Sammy
is talking is childish and someone that is in their thirties or older would not talk like that. John
Updike made sure to make Sammy of a mind of a nineteen–year–old. Another proof of that is "I
look around for my girls, but they're gone, of course. There wasn't anybody but some young married
screaming with her children about some candy they didn't get by the door of a powder–blue Falcon
station wagon."

The change in clothing began in the 1960s were it went from wearing what was classed as simple

trends people were actually disgusted in the change and didn't like the fact the girls were wearing

this same time the hippy trend came out this was the movement that tried to shift from what was the

Youth Participation In The 1960s Essay
In the mid–1960s, three main factors contributed to the increase in youth involvement in politics at
this time. The younger generation had a different mindset than the generation before them. They
believed in love, acceptance, and tolerance. Secondly, teenagers wanted their opinions to be heard;
they wanted change. Finally, the younger generation knew their parents' life was falling apart and
they felt they were doing nothing to fix it. Ultimately, teenagers had a different outlook on life at
this time and realized they had more to lose when it came to the future of America so they wanted
their thoughts to be acknowledged and taken seriously. The typical teenager in the 1960s was more
open minded and tolerant compared to their parents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

parents wanted us to know about things they'd been too timid to investigate." She says, 'they kept

made their parents uncomfortable. Young adults at this time did not want to live in a world of hate
the way their parents did. They knew the intolerant ways of the past had to change. In Maybe It's

to continue that way." When the older generation was younger and more open minded, they did not
have the ability to communicate and express themselves the way the younger generation has in the
sixties. Teenagers decided to form and voice their own political, social, and economic opinions
because they did not appreciate the way adults spoke for them and made decisions without even

The Importance Of Long Distance Communication
Something else that was important with communication that was mentioned in most of the studies,
was openness, "openness was positively correlated with relational satisfaction" says Maguire and
Kinney (2010:41). To ensure a strong foundation, strong communication is important and can lead
to a healthy and successful relationship. Communicating not only issues but good things about the
relationship itself. For example "relational savoring may be an effective tool for preventing declines
in relationship satisfaction", says Borelli (2015:1103 ) In this study, couples who were able to savor
their relationship had a higher satisfaction rating than those who did not. Talking about all things can
only lead to strengthening a long distance relationship and that is why is is an important part of a
successful long distance relationship.
Next in a study by Borelli (2015), some conclusions were found in the study that contributed to
successful long distance relationships. First, physical separations can lead to low security in a long
distance relationship, so being sure that each partner feels loved and secure in the relationship. This
feeling of security can "protect the quality of their relationship from the stresses inherent to LDRs
(long distance relationships)", says Borelli (2015: 1085) . Next, couples who had higher satisfaction
in the partnership were more comfortable to share and focus on feelings with each other. Lastly,

The Impact Of Stress And Strain On Relationships
Connections require work and will undoubtedly confront challenges vast and little. Basic, regular
stressors can strain a cozy relationship, and significant wellsprings of stress may undermine the
soundness of the relationship. For whatever length of time that each accomplice will address the
current issue and take an interest in building up an answer, most relationship issues are reasonable,
however when challenges are left unaddressed, pressure mounts, poor propensities create, and the
wellbeing and life span of the relationship are in peril.
The Impact of Stress and Strain on Relationships
Strain can be set on a relationship when upsetting conditions influence the couple all in all, or even
only one of the accomplices. Perpetual disease of one individual, for instance, can affect the
prosperity of both accomplices. Many couples battle with imparting viably and feeling that they are
heard by their accomplices, and additionally contrasts in child rearing, political perspectives, or
desires. Extreme stressors incorporate treachery, terminal disease of one accomplice, and genuine
emotional well–being issues. Hatred, disdain, and an expansion in the recurrence of contentions
have a tendency to be indications of basic issues that have been left unaddressed.
Some regular relationship concerns incorporate money related troubles, hindrances to
correspondence, routine clash, enthusiastic separation, sexual closeness issues, and absence of trust.

In a world where young people are only living for themselves, the corporations and brands are

has been featured in magazines like Hero and Rollacoaster. Her work for Penguin is quite similar to
Elaine Constantine except maybe more commercial. All the shots are posed unlike Elaine
Constantine's who's tend to look more natural but the notion is the same, lots of very attractive
people spending time together in bars or by the docks which is where this campaign is based; but her
work for Diesel Reboot is worlds apart. Images of different types of subcultures in their bedrooms
were something very fresh and interesting in the way of youth culture; it showed a completely
genuine account of how young adults/teenagers live their lives and it's a huge contrast to other
brand's campaigns trying to appeal to youth audiences.
Taking both of these photographers work into account and looking

Knapp's Relational Development Model
What forms of communication was Knapp's ideal of Relational Development model were identified.
Explain each stage and apply relevant examples.
According to Knapp's model of Relational Development, he described the stages in which a
relationship goes within the make up and break up steps of coming together and coming apart. This
blog will discuss each stage with examples.
When there is a bond between two individuals, the first overall part is the coming together stage. It
is when both parties interact with one another in the process of forming a relationship, this is called
Initiating. For example, the likeness of one another, their personality and what makes you like the
person, it is the combination of you and the other person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although the bonding stage is most likely where people intend to keep their relationship going
forever, sometimes it does not happen. Until now, the rank of divorce couples is higher than the rate
of committed couples.
Therefore, just like the coming together stages of a relationship there are five stages to coming apart.
The first sign of a relationship coming to an end is Differentiating, meaning the couple's
commonalities and differences are affecting them. In the course of this stage, the impetus of
"working together" stance instantly move from "couple" to "individualistic". Temporary
estrangement become a solution. For that reason, the relationship shifts rapidly from differences to
setting boundaries on the couple's interaction. This is called the Circumscribing stage, which means
to know everything you need to know about your partner but you avoid it by going around the
problem. It is like saying your partner isn't sincere so you avoid the problem and not sort it out
which includes less communication.
The fourth stage is Stagnating, simply means that once you find out your partner is unfaithful you
remain to do nothing about it. For instance, you know your partner is playing around so you let it
carry on until action is taken. Which eventually comes down to the final stage which is Terminating.
This is where relationship ends completely. Though it is hard to avoid relationships from getting to
this stage of

life chances of children and young people.

young people.

 Social factor could be dealing with the loss of a family member, affecting the emotional and

 Economic factor could be if a parent is out of work and finding it difficult to pay the bills, clothe
and feed their family and living in poverty.
 Cultural factor could be if the child is dealing with discrimination because they may have
different cultures or customs, or choose to live differently to many of us, such as same gender
parents, or the travelling community. This can affect schooling and the emotional, social health of a
child. Some cultures will result in the child being excluded from certain activities in settings.
1.2 Explain the importance and impact of poverty on outcomes and life chances for children and

Essay The Best Way To Grow Up

  • 1. Essay The Best Way to Grow Up Growing up Growing up is something we all have to face regardless of our age, gender, social or cultural status. Growing up is a gradual ladder toward changing (developing) from a naïve child into a mature adult. This change is shaped by the influential people and experiences we have met along the way. Growing up is not an easy process in most cases, but with proper support and positive guidance growing up can be the most rewarding experience. Through the journey of growing up we adopt a sense of responsibility and independence. Growing up is the difference between being told what to do and what decisions to make to making your own decisions and choosing the path you think is right. Becoming independent is one of the most frightening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A couple years later my mom starting dating a man who is now my stepdad. He never had kids of his own making it harder for him to communicate and understand a young person like myself. I would always try to act older when I was with him, maybe I could tell he had difficulty interacting with young kids. As a kid I would only talk to my mom it was to the point where I would tell my mom things to say to other people for me, my stepdad being in the picture taught me how to interact with someone besides my mom. He played a huge role in shaping me into a young adult. Fast forward a couple years to 2013, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was not and still is not an easy thing to have to deal with. This lady who was always this strong person who wouldn't take crap from anyone has now been beaten down too sick to get out of bed. Our roles have switched now I take care of her, I lie with her for countless hours making sure she is okay just as she did when I was a kid. My mom comes to me for security and reassurance now, I have to be there for her and stay strong. I had to learn to talk to her without crying every time I looked at her. When you were a child your parent crying was one of the scariest things so I have had to do the same for her. This has ultimately pushed me to young adult hood. I had to deal with this huge emotional disaster and the woman who I usually run to for advice was the center of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As for the second couple, it comprises of Chandini, a Canadian–born Sri Lankan woman and her French–Canadian boyfriend, Jon (see Photo 2). Chandini and Jon are in their late twenties and have been dating each other for over 4 years. The couple first met at a party thrown by mutual friends. They will be moving in together for the first time during the summer. While Chandini was not seeking her parents' approval in regard to her moving out, she was still very nervous to announce to them that she was leaving. Her task was made easier by an older sister who had eased her parents into the whole dating non–Sri Lankan people. Prior to the beginning of her relationship with Jon, Chandini's elder sister had herself been dating a French–Canadian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason for that was because Sara hated Jeremy's family and tried to avoid being with them as much as possible while Jon's parents did not live in the same city as the couple so it was not possible to meet with them. The couples did not give the researcher permission to interact with them outside of these fields. The researcher was not able to meet with the couples' friends and see how they interact among their peers. While this would have provided interesting data on the subject, the priority of the research was on their parents and so, the lack of data on their peers did not negatively impact the research. For the participant observation, the couples were given the choice of deciding on the meeting place as well as the time and date. The goal was to let them be in control as much as possible as a means to make them be comfortable with the research. All the interviews that were conducted with the couples were informal. This was done purposely so that the couples would be at ease and think that we were having a normal conversation as friends and I, as the researcher, was simply curious about their relationship. This is an essential part of the research for "the degree to which trust and cooperation (rapport) are established influences to large extent the degree to which information gathered in participant observation is accurate and dependable" (Dewalt & Dewalt 2011: 47). • 5. A Short Story : A Story? We crouched down behind the rusty blue car trying to silence our breathing. I laid flat across the pavement so I could see the opening of the alley from between the two tires. The shadows of the man and woman crept closer and closer from Main street to the opening of the alley. Then, they stopped staring through the alley to the other side, trying to pick up on any movement. "You said they went this way Ron, where the hell are they?" She pushed passed him as she stormed off down the street angerly. "They did, I saw them take off down there." The man squinted in our direction but never came any closer. The sounds of the couples screaming echoed through the abandoned town and the alley. I turned my head to look at my younger sister Allie laying next to me trying to hold everything in. Her tear stained cheeks quivered and her bright blue eyes filled with tears as she stared back at me. Allie began trembling and started to whimper, "I, Im, Im scared sissy. Take me home." "I know Allie, I promise we will go home we just need to find Xavier first." "Where is he sissy? Where is he? Where are we? Why can't we go home?" I started to realize I didn't have an answer to a single one of those questions, all I knew was that Xavier and Allie were my world and I wouldn't lose them. "It's going to be okay Allie, everything will be okay. Pinky promise me you will be strong for Xavier, okay?" "Okay Peyton, I pinky promise you. Few people go days without checking their online profiles on popular social media sites such as, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. In the article, " The upside of selfies: Social media isn't all bad for kids", Kelly Wallace claims that social media has a positive effect on young people. However, research shows that social media impacts young people's emotional health negatively. Article Summary and Analysis The author of "The upside of selfies: Social media isn't all bad for kids", Kelly Wallace, states that there are positive effects of social media on young people. • 9. The Odd Couple The play The Odd Couple began on a summer night in Oscar Madison's apartment. It is one of eight large room affairs on Riverside Drive in New Jersey. The building is 35 years old with high ceilings, walk in closets and thick walls. There is a living room with doors that go into the kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a hallway that leads to other bedrooms. There is no proof of women in the apartment for months. There are dirty dishes, old clothes and newspapers, empty bottles, glasses filled and unfilled, laundry, and mail. The furniture is nicely picked out but it it is placed unorganized in the apartment. The setting is important because that's where's the play is taken place and where Oscar and Felix will live together. Inside the apartment are 6 men play poker; Murray, Roy, Speed, Oscar, Vinnie, Oscar, and Felix. Oscar Madison is the protagonist. He is a forty three year old pleasant man who enjoys life to the fullest. He enjoys the poker game at his house once a week with his friends, drinking and his cigars Oscar enjoys his job very much, he is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author expressed this theme because in the end of the phone call with Oscar and his ex wife Blanche he said how he paid back all of his alimony. Felix, from the beginning of him moving in with Oscar was there for him to help him be able to pay him back. With Felix's help although he might have irritated Oscar, in the end it was for a good reason. Also, in the beginning of the book Oscar knew Felix was in need of a home and good place to stay and Oscar took him in very quickly. Even though their ups and downs by the end of the play they were friends again. Therefore I think the author conveys the theme of friends will always be there for each other, through thick and thin, and friends do things for the better of the other ... • 11. Ashes By Susan Pfeffer Analysis Hudson Troyer Mrs. Ragusky ELA 04 September 2017 Ashes Big Decision "Thou shalt not steal," (Exodus 20:15 KJV). Ashleigh is faced with a decision that could change her life forever. In the story, "Ashes", Ashleigh has to make a huge decision whether to steal money for her Dad's new job or stay with mom for the rest of her life. Ashleigh didn't take the money because she doesn't see her Dad very often, she can't always count on him, and her mom is always prepared. To start off, Ashleigh only sees her Dad Tuesday and Thursday nights. Ashleigh has no idea what he could be doing when she isn't with him. He could be dealing drugs or going out with someone or lots of other bad stuff. According to Susan Pfeffer in Ashes, "Mom, who was still working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This one small reason why Dad can't always be counted on. Finally, Ashleigh's mom is always prepared for almost anything. She brings extra thing almost everywhere she goes. I think we can gamble neither of those things will happen before Friday.,"(Pfeffer 4). This supports the point that Ashleigh's dad is trying to talk her into taking the money by illustrating that Mom is always prepared. In the story Ashes, Susan Pfeffer states,"With Mom, there are a lot of rainy days and she takes a grim sort of pleasure in being ready for them.," (Pfeffer 1). This shows Ashleigh describing how prepared her mom is for many situations. According to Susan in Ashes, " The flashlight with working batteries for a blackout. • 13. Different Approaches For A Infertile Couples Different Approaches Used to Treat Infertile Couples Research on applicability of specific models of couple therapy for couples facing issues around infertility and treatment is limited because of the array of psychological and interpersonal problems the couples face. One approach researched is cognitive behavioral marital therapy (CBMT). According to theorists of cognitive–behavior, change in behaviors within a couple arises through marital distress (Myers & Wark, 1996). The behaviors occur disproportionately damaging to the relationship when compared to the benefit of the behavior (Myers & Wark, 1996). The applicability of this model in addressing problems related to infertility experienced by couples can address a broad range of issues: individual response to unconscious thoughts, and self–evaluation and perceptions, sexual dysfunction, and function of communication in a marital relationship (Myers & Wark, 1996). An argument against the use of CBMT in working with couples with issues of infertility is that the focus on behavior of the approach lacks sympathy. For this particular population of couples, the approach may not be perceived as suitable to meet their needs in struggling with an emotionally charged issue (Myers & Wark, 1996). Other approaches used to address infertility issues couples face include national organizations. One such organization is RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association which provides a variety of supports to couples and families. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Perfect Life And Perfect Families Perfect Life and Perfect Families What is a perfect life or perfect family? From an outsider looking in, what does that life look like for you? Is the pressure of comparing your family with others and realizing that you do not measure up to what you see? We all have dreams of what our ideal life would be. Sometimes these are prompted by the "model" families that we have seen, or perhaps they are the dreams we had of what our own family should be like. Is there such a thing as perfect families or the perfect life? In the movie Juno and American Beauty some of these families try so hard to look picture perfect, however they are far from it. Remember that looks can be deceiving and comparison unfair. In the movie Juno, sixteen year old Juno is the type of girl that beats to her own drum, and doesn't really care what other people think of her. Juno ends up pregnant from her boyfriend, Paulie Bleeker. So she decides to have the baby and give the baby up for adoption. Juno finds the perfect couple to adopt her baby. She finds Mark and Vanessa Loring, a yuppie couple living in the suburbs. Juno likes the Loring's and in some respect has found what looks to be kindred spirits in Mark, with whom she shares a love of grunge music and horror films. Vanessa is a little more uptight and is the one in the relationship seemingly most eager to have a baby. Juno enters a closed adoption contract with the Loring's. A great way to do that is by getting a mentor who has gone through what you are going through and help you through it. Because at its most basic level, mentoring is there to help guarantee a young person that there is someone who cares about them. A child is not alone in dealing with day–to–day challenges. And for me I was fortunate enough to meet my connection in high school. My first couple years in high school I had only heard of him, never sat down and had a conversation with him. Then one day my junior year of high school he reached out to me to be a part of a program he was chosen to be in charge of. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It didn't matter who you were or how good you were eventually everybody got one of his "talks" and most people would disregard everything he said but if you truly listened to what he had to say you would come out better in the end. As a person who has endured the "talks" for 2 years I can honestly say I have learned a lot about how to conduct myself as a man and how to deal with my problems the right way. When you're in school it seems as if every teacher you encounter is just there to teach you how to pass their tests and could care less about you or your future. That's one thing I never got from Mr. Blackett he was the closest thing I had to a parental figure outside of home and he treated me as if I was one of his children whether that be in a good or bad way. On this pleasant day, I stand before you to deliver a speech entitled "Long distance relationship is manageable!". As we all know, a relationship can be defined as having a constant connection with a person be it family members, friends or acquaintances. However, the relationship I'm discussing about today is on the relationship between different sex, what we called as boy–girl relationship. This particular relationship can be divided into the short distance relationship we see every day or a long distance relationship. No two man or even twins can have the same character. It is the mutual understanding and constant perseverance that brings out the best in a couple. A couple can have many flaws but still maintain a great relationship that envies others. From a religious point of view, constantly pray for your relationship helps a lot as both has a same goal, which is to have a sweet relationship. Nevertheless, you must also be ready to work hard for your long distance relationship because it brings a whole lot of challenges while moving along the way. Ms Monagham gives the message that youth crime is decreasing and that the public are only concerned with the crimes that are going on and not enough concern for how much crime has decreased by youths. It also speaks about how offenders come from a background of no love given to them by there families. It says that young offenders haven't been given much attention and they commit crimes to have some attention of people and especially by their families. The attitude towards this article is that it is trying to put across the message that youth crimes are decreasing and the approach that the writer is using is by giving an example of a 10 year old and asking if it if fair to prosecuting someone of such a young age and what affects it will have on that person ... As a result this model proposes that dual–earning families migrate less than families with a single earner (Mincer, 1978). The second model is based on the social exchange theory (Emerson, 1976) and suggests similar predictions. However, it differs from the one previously mentioned, as it introduces the concept of power as the main tool through which decisions are made. Consequently, the partner with the greater bargaining power (often determined through income) is likely to dictate the outcome of a relocation decision (Hood, 1983). Thirdly stands the gender–role and provider–role model. Hood (1983) claims that each partner subscribes to regarding a certain deviation in respect of their roles in a family, which in consequence affects the process of decision–making. Undoubtedly, this model has experienced great shifts during the last 20 years from a traditional male dominance as breadwinners to increasing numbers of primary earning women (Richardson et al, ... The story Enslaved Captive, by Olaudah Equiano was published in 1789, and tells the story of a young African boy who is kidnaped, taken into slavery and eventually arrives in the Americas where he is sold to a merchant there. Olaudah, who is portrayed as the young slave, explains in narrative the horrors that he and other fellow Africans experienced on their journey from Africa to American where they are meant to be sold and put to work. The article persuades the reader to see from the point of view of the slave, and to feel what they felt as they were taken from their homeland to be forced into physical labour in a strange new land. Olaudah Equiano was born in 1745 to the Ibo people of the Benin Empire, which was located along the Niger River. He was the youngest of the son's, and was aspired to become chief of his village. Equiano's family owned slaves themselves, but unlike what he endured in the story, they treated them like they were their own family. Slavery by what Equiano states was common among most African tribes, and the fear of being enslaved was widely shared among his people. This is exactly what happened, while their father and others in the village were working, two men and a woman came and kidnaped Equiano and his sister then fled into the woods. In 'The Young Couple', Jhabvala illustrates the difficulties Cathy experiences in family relationships upon moving to India after her marriage to Naraian, whereas in 'Two Kinds', Amy Tan describes the difficulties Jing–mei, the heroine, faces in her relationship with her mother. Part of these difficulties are caused by the 'clash of cultures' that the heroines in both stories experience. Cathy feels that she does not fit in to Indian culture and Jing–mei has to live with a mother who, at crucial times, shows that she lives her life according to Chinese principles, whereas Jing–mei prefers the independent, American lifestyle. Naraian's family seems to control the couple's lives as everything that she does is the subject of "scrupulous family concern" and because Naraian is annoyed with Indian families, who will "not allow a man to take his own decisions but regard it as their right to take them for him". This interference of the family is important as a dramatic tool, to the progress of 'The Young Couple', as it is this interference that begins to create problems for Naraian and Cathy, as they came to India with a "life of purpose" and a "challenge" awaiting them, and after the family start to interfere in the couple's affairs, they seem to be prevented from doing anything worthwhile. Their problems seem to revolve around the idea that Cathy cannot live this 'family–orientated' lifestyle. She is unable to get a job for herself, and we know this affects her, as she begins to show signs of boredom; "twisting and untwisting the end of her golden plait" and she considers her current situation "depressing". She cannot get a job because the sort of jobs she would be permitted to do in India depends on her "background and social standing", and she is not qualified for these jobs. This shows how the social standing of the family even influences decisions, such as finding a job, which would be an individual decision in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Human Struggle In Yasujiro Ozu's Tokyo Story Generations don't battle, they mostly clash into each other. We see this in our very own lives, where parents bring up their past and say, "If only you knew how good you have it!". This will forever be somewhat a problem in the past, present, and future of our lives. One generation will always be underestimated or beyond correct then the other. In Yasujiro Ozu's film Tokyo Story we see constant clashing of the elderly and the youth. Ozu's message of how the generations have changed is a way of him defining to us what the human struggle is. Due to the character's actions in the way they treat each other we can pick up on the struggles that they are having and see the human struggle in the film. At the start of the film, Ozu shows us two of the main characters of the film; Shukichi and Tomi. We see them packing their bags to go on a trip. They are going to see their children whom, they haven't seen in a long while. We can see that Ozu is showing us that becoming old is one struggle that most humans fear, but of course it must occur in our lives. When the old slow couple are packing, Shukichi asks Tomi where the inflatable pillow is and Tomi responds and says that she gave it to him. With aging comes forgetfulness and stubbornness; and when Tomi says she gave it to him he starts to say no you didn't, you still have it. Later we see it appear in his bag where he said it wasn't and nothing is said when he finds it. It is simply brushed away with no argument to follow. Ozu shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Negative Effects Of Pornography With the surge of wider–spread accessibility to the internet on mobile phones and laptops comes a surge in the accessibility and viewing of pornography. Much research has been done to study how such an increase in pornography consumption is impacting the marriage relationship. Some findings have indicated that users incur serious negative effects, including a 25% higher divorce rate, are 101% more likely to be unfaithful to a spouse, and were 12% less likely to describe their marriage as 'very happy' (Doran & Price, 2014). Interestingly, various studies have also noted that the effects may be different for men than they are for women, stating that "for women who viewed pornography in ranges between "2–3 times a month" and "once a day or more," their marital quality was actually higher than those who never viewed pornography..." (Perry, 2017). Considering such contradictory findings, it can be difficult for couples to know how pornography use plays into a healthy marriage, if it does at all. Pornography use, at the very least, has been shown to create conflict and stress between spouses if the non–using partner is more religious or has negative views surrounding pornography. Is has also been linked with lower self–esteem in women. The affects of this activity must be viewed not only through an individual lens, but through a couple's view. My reaction to the 2001 film is not much different from how I read the play myself. That is until I reached the end of the film. Things became seemingly different from what I would have expected. The 1952 and 1986 interpretations of Oscar Wilde's play were more elegant than the 2001 film. My reaction to this version was much different from my initial perspective. This interpretation of the play seems to be presented in a more serious and dramatic manner. In what ways did both interpretations change the original? Was it a change for the better or worse in your opinion? The 2001 interpretation of Oscar Wilde's play seemed to be portrayed similarly to how I originally perceived. However, there are a few comedic scenes added for the enjoyment of the audience. The film portrays Miss Prism running away and fainting due to a shock of grief endured so unexpectedly. The scene makes for an exaggerated yet amusing scene. In my opinion, this scene made the interpretation better. In fact, her running away build excitement and curiosity up. I also enjoyed the scene of John and Algernon serenading the girls, in hopes that they would come down and forgive the two of them. This light– hearted scene helped make their dilemma more enjoyable and less upsetting. The 1952 and 1986 version of "The Importance of Being Earnest" were not as funny as the other interpretation. IBCT Model (1 pg. – Lizbette) IBCT is a couples therapy approach that helps couples facing highly distressed situations (Briggs, Finley & Sprenlete,2015). IBCT stems from Behavioral Couples Therapy (BCT); however, due to a lack of outcomes that demonstrated successful long–term effects in couples, IBCT was created (Jacobson & Christensen, 1996). As stated by Jacobson and Christensen (1996) IBCT consists of elements of emotional acceptance and tolerance to address issues that BCT was unable to do. This was done to add a sense of sympathy and compassion to couples experiences and to find solutions to help couples with their problems. According to Briggs et al. (2015) the steps in treating couples using IBCT involve creating a treatment plan, individual and joint sessions which occur during the first four sessions of the therapeutic process. During the assessment session couples are asked to remember and talk about what made them fall in love and how they met in order to find and highlight strengths the couple holds (Mairal, 2015). After the assessment and initial phase is conducted, then treatment can begin which consist of building intimacy, helping couples move from their stuck phase and influencing change (Briggs et al., 2015). There are several interventions used in IBCT. One of the most important interventions is emotional acceptance. While they're many couples that are in happy and healthy relationships, there are several those are not. What is the cause of the progressing down in the institution and commitment? The authors' aim was to contribute to the literature on relationship quality through examination of different types of relationships, and the effect of economic resources on perceived relationship quality. 4. Describe the participants of the study. Since you are supposed to choose an article of a cross– cultural study on families, the participants for this study should have different cultural backgrounds. What are these cultural backgrounds? What are the demographics of the participants? Although the study focuses on two main populations, cohabiting and married couples, there are very distinct trends amongst the members of each of the groups. Hardie and Lucas (2010) emphasize the correlation between cohabitation and low education levels, low socioeconomic status, young adults, divorcees, non–whites, and those more supportive of egalitarian gender roles. These traits are also commonly associated with ethnic minorities. The article also discusses the elevated levels of domestic violence in low income households attributing above average levels of abuse to economic hardship and distress. Since cohabiting couples are more likely to be culturally diverse, less educated, and financially insecure (often living in poverty) compared to married couples, they are more susceptible to fluctuation in the economy, and therefore more vulnerable to the effects of economic hardship

  • 53. Reasons Why Couples Choose Not To In-Person Therapy Many couples experiencing relationship distress choose not to seek therapeutic help. "Recent estimates founded that only 19% of intact couples seek any type of counseling or therapy for their relationship and that only 37% of divorced couples sought any couple therapy prior to divorcing" (Cicila, Georgia, & Doss, 2014). Reasons why couples decide not to seek treatment are because of the perceived stigma associated with therapy, financial burden, and logistical concerns, such as difficulty scheduling appointments or finding transportation to appointments (Cicila et al., 2014). These findings show couples would rather keep issues between themselves than talk to a therapist who has the skills and expertise in marital discord. As an alternative ... For couple participating in this form of intervention may not get enough out of the program. they may need more support and guidance. An internet–based intervention does not provide the same level of therapy as in–person therapy. couples may benefit from in–person therapeutic intervention more than the on–line program. Couples struggling with the online program may get frustrated which can escalate the distress in their relationship. Another limitation is due to the fact that therapy is online, couples may not take the program seriously and not be fully committed. This leads to the program having a low completion rate and may not be seen as an effective form of therapy. A limitation of the OurRelationship.com program is that most of the activities are done individually. If couples are having problems in their relationship, it would make sense if they performed activities together. The Odd Couple, by Samuel French took place in Beacon Charter Theater Workshop and directed by Jason Robert Leclair. The theme of the play is to learn to get along with other people, especially your friends. So in this case, Olive must learn to deal with Florence despite their differences in personality. Like the story A&P, Sammy made a huge decision to quit his job due to his boss being rude to three young girls wearing bathing suits. John Updike used several literary elements to make the story stand out and for people to relate to Sammy. The most important elements that is used in this story is setting, point of view, and characters. Firstly, setting plays a crucial part of the story because of where and when the story takes place. This story takes place around the 1950's in the United States near Boston. In the story, it read "It's not as if we're on the Cape; we're north of Boston and there's people in this town haven't seen the ocean for twenty years." (Updike) This quote demonstrates of why the locals in the town where so upset to see the three young girls wearing only their bathing suits in the supermarket. This also takes place in a much older generation that is not okay with people walking around with revealing clothing. That is why Sammy's boss, Lengel was so upset with the ... (Updike) The way that Sammy is talking is childish and someone that is in their thirties or older would not talk like that. John Updike made sure to make Sammy of a mind of a nineteen–year–old. Another proof of that is "I look around for my girls, but they're gone, of course. As she pursued the lingerie in Victoria's Secret, she wondered how to appear sexy, but without being too revealing. Once she got back in her car, she opened the Pink bag and massaged the silky fabric of the new garment and imagined how amazing it would feel on her skin; the thought caused a shutter of arousal. However, because she had been too embarrassed to try it on in the store, she hoped a number four would fit properly. Heather was by no means an expert when it came to dressing sexy, and because she only wore off–the–rack clothing to work, spending two–hundred dollars on underwear seemed a bit outrageous. • 67. Youth Participation In The 1960s Essay In the mid–1960s, three main factors contributed to the increase in youth involvement in politics at this time. The younger generation had a different mindset than the generation before them. They believed in love, acceptance, and tolerance. Secondly, teenagers wanted their opinions to be heard; they wanted change. Finally, the younger generation knew their parents' life was falling apart and they felt they were doing nothing to fix it. Ultimately, teenagers had a different outlook on life at this time and realized they had more to lose when it came to the future of America so they wanted their thoughts to be acknowledged and taken seriously. She says, 'they kept saying, "don't!" and we kept asking, "why not?" The young people challenged what their parents' believed. They wanted to know more and form their own opinions. They talked about the topics that made their parents uncomfortable. Young adults at this time did not want to live in a world of hate the way their parents did. They knew the intolerant ways of the past had to change. In Maybe It's Time to Protest, it says, "just because life has always been a certain way doesn't mean it always has to continue that way." When the older generation was younger and more open minded, they did not have the ability to communicate and express themselves the way the younger generation has in the sixties. Teenagers decided to form and voice their own political, social, and economic opinions because they did not appreciate the way adults spoke for them and made decisions without even asking them what they thought. The Importance Of Long Distance Communication Something else that was important with communication that was mentioned in most of the studies, was openness, "openness was positively correlated with relational satisfaction" says Maguire and Kinney (2010:41). To ensure a strong foundation, strong communication is important and can lead to a healthy and successful relationship. Communicating not only issues but good things about the relationship itself. For example "relational savoring may be an effective tool for preventing declines in relationship satisfaction", says Borelli (2015:1103 ) In this study, couples who were able to savor their relationship had a higher satisfaction rating than those who did not. Talking about all things can only lead to strengthening a long distance relationship and that is why is is an important part of a successful long distance relationship. Next in a study by Borelli (2015), some conclusions were found in the study that contributed to successful long distance relationships. First, physical separations can lead to low security in a long distance relationship, so being sure that each partner feels loved and secure in the relationship. This feeling of security can "protect the quality of their relationship from the stresses inherent to LDRs (long distance relationships)", says Borelli (2015: 1085) . Next, couples who had higher satisfaction in the partnership were more comfortable to share and focus on feelings with each other. Lastly, ensuring the relationship satisfaction is secure and ... This blog will discuss each stage with examples. When there is a bond between two individuals, the first overall part is the coming together stage. Although the bonding stage is most likely where people intend to keep their relationship going forever, sometimes it does not happen. Until now, the rank of divorce couples is higher than the rate of committed couples. Therefore, just like the coming together stages of a relationship there are five stages to coming apart. The first sign of a relationship coming to an end is Differentiating, meaning the couple's commonalities and differences are affecting them. In the course of this stage, the impetus of "working together" stance instantly move from "couple" to "individualistic". Temporary estrangement become a solution. For that reason, the relationship shifts rapidly from differences to setting boundaries on the couple's interaction. This is called the Circumscribing stage, which means to know everything you need to know about your partner but you avoid it by going around the problem. It is like saying your partner isn't sincere so you avoid the problem and not sort it out which includes less communication. The fourth stage is Stagnating, simply means that once you find out your partner is unfaithful you remain to do nothing about it.
