Essay about So Much to Tell You
The novel, 'So Much To Tell You' by John Marsden explores the concept of growth and change
through the character, Marina, and her struggle to become whole. The contrast of Marina's character
from the beginning of the novel to the end portrays her development during her journey to heal. The
composer uses techniques to convey Marina's growth and change throughout the novel.
Initially, Marina is isolated and detached from the world she once knew. She begins in a tone harsh
and cold. "It would stay a cold and empty book, with no secrets." Her tone is blunt as she describes
herself as the "nut case, the psycho with the deformed face" and the "silent freak" suffering from
"anorexia of speech". The main aspect isolating Marina from growing and...show more content...
THEY HATE EVERYONE! THEY HATE EACH OTHER!" She uses her journal as the voice she
is unable to find to bring her opinion across. However, this belief is contrasted to her later thoughts.
"It was really touching... I think I scored the wrong family." It portrays the large effect the school
has made on Marina's change.
Marina grows and changes from her fragmented shell as she observes and builds relationships with
those at the boarding school. The use of contrast emphasises Marina's growth in trust with those
around her. "I'm starting to feel mildly safe. That's dangerous, I'd better be careful." Her change is
evident as she later writes, "I suppose I do trust them a bit, yet when I came to this place I was so
determined never to trust anyone."
Initially, Marina is determined to remain aloof towards her peers. "Some of them tried a bit... But
I gave my famous impression of a cockroach and that put them off." However, this idea is
contrasted as she begins to build relationships and makes effort to forge friendships, particularly
with Cathy and Lisa. "I hope you have a Happy Birthday and I wish you love." Marina
characterises Lisa as a "cold, Scandinavian, marble mountain". This further contributes to Marina's
shock as she discovers Lisa crying. "People have cried in the dorm before... But never Lisa."
Marina expresses her urge to comfort Lisa, though she is unable to. "One day, I'll tell her how
terrible I felt... I couldn't do anything about it." This event changes

Truth Essay
Truth
The question of right and wrong has been battled over for centuries. Many conservatives still believe
that truth is absolute, while others disagree, saying that truth is relative. I believe that truth is an
individual's perception of beliefs and decisions.
For that reason, truth differentiates among individuals thorough their contrasting opinions. But, truth
is something that everyone believes to be correct. Thus, it greatly depends on what's true in the
minds of the people. On the contrary, truth that's spoken with bad intent is considered to be worse
than a lie. Hence, truth is an expression, symbol or statement that corresponds to reality and
happiness.
Truth is dominated by one's subjective thoughts and beliefs. It is a...show more content...
Nevertheless, I also consider truth to be absolute, and therefore, it is never right to do wrong. Truth
is the purity that differentiates between right and wrong. "Absolute Truth" is true regardless of what
we believe and think. Absolute truth stands on its own. In the sense, absolute truth is absolutely true
no matter what evidence there is for it. Truth is what corresponds to the facts. Truth does not change
just because we learn something about it.
Also, truth is not always good to say. If the objective of telling the truth is to hurt someone, then it is
considered to be inferior to a most terrible lie. For that reason, while speaking the truth we should
keep in mind that it doesn't hurt someone else's feelings or relations. The problem we face is that,
we feel the urge to tell the truth when we see it. But, we should try to accomplish this without
disapproving condemnations that hurt others. So when we freely express harsh judgment of another,
we are in fact talking about those negative qualities of ourselves that trouble us the most.
Likewise, care should be taken that truth that's spoken for self–satisfaction does not impair someone
else's life. Similarly, we should always bear in mind that at times lie can also be beneficial to say if,
it brings happiness to others. Hence, if the truth is spoken with the purpose of destruction of
something or someone then

Essay on I Know the Real Me
In our lives there is only one person that we really need to learn how to be kind to, care for, rely
on, be honest with, and just overall love and respect, and that person is our own self. Then with this
knowledge we are capable of sharing all that we have learned with others and giving them the things
we want in return. Yet if we never learn how to respect ourselves we end up not experiencing life
to the fullest. When one does not know how to appreciate oneself they cannot truly be happy. They
begin to get depressed and/or lead their own life to what, according to others, is the path they should
take. My experiences only prove the above. From the beginning of my sixth grade to about the time
I started high school, I led a life...show more content...
Therefore my relationship with people I've known my entire life began to falter. I stopped caring
about the friends that I had since I was young and didn't even try to keep in touch with them. I had
such little respect for myself that I didn't want anyone around me that cared.
Then at the start of my high school years I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't let others rule
my life anymore but after years of acting a certain way its hard to change. I knew inside that I was
worth more and better then I gave myself credit for. The summer before my freshman year I spent
a month in New Orleans with my family that lives down there. During that time I was able to
learn about needs, wants, and myself. Without any of my "friends" around I began to let my real
self come out. I learned that I would only be able to stay strong if I was true to myself. So when
my freshman year began I did exactly that. I joined the clubs I wanted to, dressed how I wanted
to, and listened to the music I wanted to. I became friends with people that let me be myself.
People that accepted me for who I really am not who they wanted me to be. Although it was hard at
times, I had to start all over again. I lost most of my friends from middle school because we either
grew apart or we realized we just weren't meant to be friends.
Then with this new sense of self I began to live a much happier life. I noticed that my relationships
with everyone around me

Lying Essay
A lie is an intentionally false statement. Admit it: You've lied. Mostly everyone has lied. Since a
young age, lying has been a part of our lives. Lying begins early. By the age of 3, most children
know how to fib. When we do it well, we get what we want. Babies often falsify a cry to
manipulate those around them to their wants as well as needs. Although lying is not socially
acceptable it has become a part of everyone's daily routine. Majority of people dislike liars
however everyone has lied at some point in their lives, making a lot of people liars. To act as
something you don't believe in or is not, at your core, who you truly are, is dishonest. Although you
don't always have to be dishonest to lie. There's omission and deflecting. On...show more content...
We lie to avoid awkwardness or punishment. We lie to maintain relationships and please others. On
Jan. 26, 1998, Bill Clinton famously told the nation, "I did not have sexual relations with that
woman, Miss Lewinsky." Clinton later confessed that he did indeed have an "improper physical
relationship" with Monica Lewinksky, a 24–year–old White House intern. For his deceit, Clinton
became the second president in American history impeached by the House of Representatives.
Although majority of the country believed that he was guilty, Clinton still could've saved his image
by simply being truthful. As my mom always says, "The truth will set you free." Something that has
become acceptable is the "white lie". Ericsson believes that the lie assumes the truth will cause
more damage than the lie. Many experts don't see much difference between a little lie (telling
Mom that the casserole was great) and a big lie (covering up an extramarital affair). Anything that
is not accurate is a lie. You can argue that a lie done to make someone else feel better is relatively
minor. But they have an effect. The bottom line is that a lie is a lie. That's the great paradox here. I
do believe the more lies, the more degradation. But you can't stop lies entirely. Society would grind
to a halt. Many parents across the world lie to their parents about Santa Claus, who's supposed to
reward them with presents on Christmas Day. They claim this

If I Could Tell You Essay
Time, said to be eternal, possess neither a beginning nor an end. Yet however there is a fixation on
being able to measure it in years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds. Trying to save time with
new technology, manage time with multi–tasking activities. All in the hopes of giving meanings to
the past, present and future. The past is able to been seen but not changed, today is in the present yet
still unpredictable, and tomorrow is not guaranteed. If I Could Tell You by W. H. Auden is a
villanelle much like others using rhyme, repetition, and meter, that revolve around the main idea of
the continuity time and its unforeseeable nature.
The rhyming of the alternating ending lines, "Time will say nothing but I told you so" (1) and...show
more content...
The ending shows Audens maturity throughout the villanelle and ends with "If I could tell you I
would let you know " stating that Time is out of his hands, but it is acceptable and if there was
anyway he could help, he would.
Throughout the villanelle, time is personified and introduced to the reader as an unreliable character,
through. Auden blames Time for unwanted changes in life, and he repeats the line because he
observes that all changes, even those that are unintentional, come with Time. The repetition of Time
at the end of the stanza rather than the beginning or end display how eternal time is. The first part
of each stanza question Time, but all ends with "Time will say nothing but I told you so", explaining
that whatever Auden thinks or observes, will all be part of the past in the future.
Much like poetry as a whole, used to express emotion and speechless opinions, the villanelle is
almost perfect fitting for the theme of time. A villanelles structure alone portrays almost a near
exhibition of time. Through the first five stanzas, a villanelle is predictable with tercets although the
last stanza is a quatrain. This depiction could be metaphorical that time can be planned although in
the end, everything may not come to together as hoped. The meter only emphasises this metaphor
more by breaking the alternating line in each

What I Have Learned Essay
What I Have Learned
When I think about what counts as learning to me, I think about my life. Just being able to live in
this world to me is a learning experience, because I feel that my life is full of lessons and I believe
that it takes lessons to learn in life. I feel that I have learned to understand learning more and to
also understand the value of learning. As I get older I can comprehend subject matters more than I
could ever do before. I am learning to be more serious and I find myself not taking life for granted
anymore.
I also feel that maturing counts as learning for me because growing up I was continuously being
called immature. For me, maturing counts as learning because I find myself doing things I never
thought I...show more content...
I feel that I have to get rid of bad habits in order to make room for better habits that I need for
everyday life. I am learning better habits everyday. Even though I did bad on my first exam I feel
that counted as learning for me because now I know what it takes for me to receive a high grade on
any test I take.
The biggest learning experience to me so far is life itself. I feel that way because there is so much to
learn in life. It takes growing up for me to learn in life. I am now beginning to understand the value
of learning because a year ago I did not appreciate learning. I did not value it like I value it now. I
took it for granted as if learning could just be given to me. I realize now that it has to be earned. My
attitude in high school was bad because I really did not feel I was learning, so I took it for granted.
In high school I felt as if the teachers were jokes and I also felt they did not care about educating
me properly. I am now starting to learn the value of an education. I now look forward to learning
new things everyday. I feel that I am beginning to have a passion for learning. I never thought that
I would feel this way about learning because I never did appreciate it like I do now. I now actually
yearn to learn; I feel that I need to learn new things. Every assignment I have done in college is
teaching me something new. I think I feel this way because I am maturing and I now view learning
differently than I did
