in India and beyond
Digitalization and Industry 4.0 are two trends that can help
the textile industry overcome challenges such as supply
chain disruptions, climate change, and changing consumer
preferences. Digitalization refers to the integration of digital
technologies into business processes, while Industry 4.0
is the integration of digital technologies into all aspects of
manufacturing.

automation and
data analytics.
Robotics and artificial
intelligence are optimizing production, while data analytics is
monitoring and improving various aspects of manufacturing.
Digitalization is also transforming the supply chain through
blockchain technology and digital platforms that facilitate
communication and collaboration between different players.
Industry 4.0 is creating smart factories in the textile industry
that are more efficient, flexible, and sustainable. Integration
of sensors and other IoT devices is optimizing production in
real-time, leading to higher yields and lower costs. Automation
is reducing labour costs, and intelligent systems are being
created by integrating automation technologies with machine
learning and predictive analytics.
India is at the forefront of both digitalization and Industry 4.0
in the textile industry. India is the second-largest manufacturer
of PPE in the world, and its textile industry is expected to reach
$250 billion by 2025. Indian researchers have developed an
innovative green technology called air nanobubbles that can
reduce water usage in the textile sector by up to 90 percent.

manufacturing process. Automation technologies such
as robotics and artificial intelligence are being used to
streamline and optimise production, leading to faster
turnaround times, higher yields, and lower costs.
Additionally, data analytics is being used to monitor
and optimize various aspects of the manufacturing
process, from raw material selection to finished
product quality control.
Another area where digitalisation is transforming
the textile industry is in the supply chain. Blockchain
technology, for example, is being used to increase
transparency and traceability in the supply chain,
allowingcompaniestoidentifyandaddressissuesmore
quickly and efficiently. Furthermore, digital platforms
are being developed to facilitate communication and
collaboration between different players in the supply
chain, from suppliers to manufacturers to retailers.
Industry 4.0 is another trend that is shaping the future
of the textile industry. Industry 4.0 refers to the fourth
industrial revolution, which is characterized by the
integration of digital technologies into all aspects of
manufacturing. Industry 4.0 encompasses a range
of technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT),
artificial Intelligence, and cloud computing, that are
transforming the way that goods are produced and
delivered.
In the textile industry, Industry 4.0 is being used to
create smart factories that are more efficient, flexible,
and sustainable. By integrating sensors and other IoT
devices into machines and equipment, manufacturers
can monitor and optimize production in real time,
leading to higher yields and lower costs. Furthermore,
the data generated by these devices can be used to
improve product quality and reduce waste.
Automation is another key aspect of Industry 4.0 in the
textile industry. By automating tasks such as material
handling, cutting, and stitching, manufacturers can
reduce labour costs and improve efficiency. Moreover,
by integrating automation technologies with other
Industry 4.0 technologies, such as machine learning

Introduction:
Digitization involves integrating digital technologies
into the various aspects of an industry’s operations,
including production, supply chain management,
marketing, and customer engagement. This improves
efficiency, optimizes processes, and enhances
performance, creating a more efficient and adaptable
organization. By leveraging digital technologies,
companies can gain insights into customer behavior,
respond to customer demands, and continuously
improve product design to retain customer loyalty.
The G2G (Garment to Garment) manufacturing
business strategy is popular among leading fashion
brands in the international market. Countries like India
can partner with them to achieve circularity in textiles,
which can only be accomplished by recycling used
products repeatedly. However, the major issue with
G2G is the hygiene of used garments.
The process of converting used garments, trims, or
fabric waste into cloth/garment involves tearing and
openingthefibersfollowedbyyarns,fabrics,andfinally,
garments. If the fibers recycled from used garments
are converted into products where hygiene is not an
issue, then such products can be accepted without any
hesitation. In thecase G2G hygiene is a key issue, as
used garments may have been contaminated in various
ways. Cleaning and decontamination of waste is a must
before converting it into finished garments. Even if the
industry claims decontamination in its processes, it is
difficult to convince customers.
Digitization can be the solution to this issue.
Process of post-consumer G2G:
The post-consumer garment recycling process is a
rigorous exercise. The industry collects garments
from consumers of various regions in bundles,
without control over the source or type of garments.
Upon receipt, the garments are segregated according
to the recycling industry’s business model, based on
color, garment type, fiber composition, and more.
Non-textile materials such as buttons, trims, and
metal items are removed before the material is ready
for processing.

In the case of used garments, they are washed and
dried as the first step, and decontaminated for hygiene
purposes. Ozonation is the preferred method to
ensure protection against microbes and cross-infec-
tion issues for customers of these recycled garments.
The garments are then processed through cutting and
tearing machines to convert them into fiber. Strong
magnets in the tearing line remove any metallic
material from the fibrous mass.
The recycled fibers are blended with virgin or recycled
polyester fibers to produce yarn. Fabric is formed and
garments are made from these recycled materials.
Even garments out of 100%
recycled fibers are also possible.
The manufacturing processes may
vary depending on the company’s
business model, including the
yarn or fabric production, garment
design, and the type of processes
used.
Adoption of digitization in G2G
process:
Digitization plays a crucial role in
supporting the G2G sustainability business model,
particularly in the decontamination process and
monitoring. To ensure traceability, each lot of raw
material is coded during processing, and the code is
updated as it passes through each operation of the
garment waste to fiber conversion process, yarn and
fabric formation, and garmenting. The final updated
code is tagged to the garment or printed on a label
attached to it.
During the manufacturing process, product
specifications and processes are defined that outline
the desired characteristics of the product. A bill
of materials (BOM) is created that lists all the raw
materials and processes that will be used, and a plan
is developed that outlines the steps that will be taken
to manufacture the product, including quality control
checks. The manufacturing process is coded using
software that tracks the progress and ensures that
each step is completed according to the plan.
Automated process checks are built into the software
to ensure that the product passes through each
defined process, and the software generates the final
code in the desired format for tagging to that lot of the
garment. If any lot has missed the critical process of
decontamination, the finished product can be passed
again through the decontamination process to ensure
customer safety. The software will ensure that without
the material passing through the decontamination
machines the final code will not be generated. If the
decontamination is not in working condition, for any
reason, then also the code will not be updated, and the
final code is not printed. Similarly, unless decontam-
ination is done the verification of code by customer
would fail. Thus, digitization safeguards the health and
cleanliness of the customers.
The final coding is tagged or
printed on labels of every
garment, and customers can verify
the manufacturing processes
undergone by the garment by
scanning a QR code or by checking
the code online. By utilizing
digitization, companies can ensure
traceability, transparency, and
safety in their manufacturing
processes, ultimately supporting a sustainable and
circular fashion industry. Such digitized manufacturing
processes would enhance brand values of the
companies that work on G2G philosophy.
Conclusion:
Digitization can emerge as a game-changing solution
in the textile industry’s shift towards sustainability,
particularly in the realm of post-consumer garment
waste recycling. While the industry has been recycling
in-process and pre-consumer waste for a few decades,
thegrowingconcernaroundsoilanddeep-seapollution
caused by textile waste has led to the demand for
recycling post-consumer garment and textile waste.
In any business the companies will take interest only
if the product/process brings profit and/or value
to them. For the industry to adopt waste recycling
as a wealth-creating business rather than just an
environmental protection measure, it must add
significant value to the recycled products. The creation
of fresh garments from used garments is one such
avenue that offers a high-value addition compared to
other products. <<

Exhibitors and Visitors Profile
The business visitors mostly are from Bangladesh.
There are also some from South Indian Nations such
as India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, and Southeast
Asian Nations such as Thailand and Vietnam.
We have indexed for various countries and regions,
making it a truly global event with exhibitors from
around the world. While China and Taiwan are
well-represented, comprising about25~30% of
exhibitors, we also have a notable presence from
Turkey and India. Specifically, we have over 100
companies from India and approximately 30 to 40
from Turkey. In addition, we are pleased to have
major distributors from Bangladesh participating
in the exhibition, representing various brands from
different nations.
Vision for Chanchao
While my company’s headquarters is based in
Taiwan, we have expanded our focus to overseas
markets such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, and
Cambodia to tap into their manufacturing potential.
In Taiwan, we hold over 25 exhibitions annually,
including events focused on biotechnology, bakery,
food & beverage, pets, as well as B2B machinery
shows.
We are actively seeking countries that are keen to
invest in manufacturing machinery. Bangladesh,
where 80% of exports are from RMG manufacturing,
is a particularly attractive market due to its growing
status as the next China for garment production. As
the fourth largest garment exporter in the world in
2004 and now the second largest, Bangladesh offers
significant potential for growth, particularly as the
market shifts towards synthetic fibers.
Additionally, Vietnam has been a key location for us
for over 23 years due to its status as a manufacturing
hub for multiple industries.

“Technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI),
machine learning and automation are becoming
increasingly important in the textile industry and
in Milan, Swedish companies will showcase new
machines and software that can help streamline
production and improve efficiency,” says TMAS

In partnership with a number of other companies,
for example, ACG Kinna (Hall 9, stand C108)
drew considerable crowds to demonstrations of its
robotic pillow filling system at the last ITMA show
in 2019.
With the ability to fill and finish some 3,840 pillows
per eight-hour shift, automated units cover the
entire process – from the opening and weighing of
the fibre to the filling of the product and on to the
sewing and packing processes.
The system has been further developed to include
new features including an integrated marking
solution which allows the customer to print QR
codes, batch numbers and dates on the pillows’
labels, and a unique software for automatically
detecting pre-programmed faults which will be
introduced in Milan.

A textile sample is a piece of cloth or fabric designed to
represent a larger whole fabric. A small sample, usually
taken from existing fabric, is called a swatch, whilst a
larger sample, made as a trial to test print production
methods, is called a strike off. For plain-dyed fabrics it
is called a lab-dip, and for yarn-dyed fabrics (like stripes
and checks), it is called a handloom samples.
The use of swatches has formed an essential part of the
design process of textiles throughout different cultures
across history. Samples enable designers to display
different types of fabric, demonstrating how different
colours, materials, trims and methods of weaving will
look in real terms—something that may not be readily
apparent from a paper of digital design—before the
entire fabric is manufactured.
A textile manufacturer may bring together several
swatches of materials into a single sample book,
which may serve to enable a salesperson to display a
wide selection of fabrics to potential customers in a
convenient manner. A textile swatch book may also
serve as an internal reference for materials that have
been made previously and could be manufactured
again.

he blue thread moves on! Retech will present
various interesting innovations under the blue
thread theme and related to sustainability for heated
godets at the upcoming ITMA at Stand B108 in hall 1.
(Bild 1): Retech heated godet roll
Retech as expert in drawing your fibres to perfection
will be showing innovations in the following fields in
Milan.
• IoT in a modern heated godet
• New drive system for (super) slow speeds
• Special machine construction of drawing frames
and the making of the blue thread
Godet rolls are essential components in the production
of synthetic fibres. These heated, ambient or cooled
rolls help achieve the perfect yarn quality for a range
of materials and applications when it comes to heat
treatment for filament fibre applications. Retech godet
rolls have revolutionized synthetic fibre processing by
providing unique designs that allow for greater control
over temperature, fibre treatment and sustainability. In
addition to its innovative designs, Retech also focuses
on energy efficiency when it comes to motors and
heating equipment. This means all Retech products
use less energy than traditional systems—making
them more cost effective over time while achieving
excellent results.
Retech’s heated godet rolls are designed with two
challenging requirements in mind: applying exactly the
correct temperature for the material being produced;
and maintaining this level continuously throughout the
process. To do this, their designs incorporate energy
saving technology, using single-zone or multi-zone
heating via induction, infrared or resistance. This
ensures accuracy and precision when it comes to
surface temperature profiles - guaranteeing consistent
yarn quality every time. Retech also offers unbeatable
value when it comes to cost savings – thanks to its low
maintenance requirements meaning less downtime,
lifetime bearings meaning no additional lubrication
required. As well as its IoT ready monitoring feature
which protects against potential damage due to excess
temperatures or other issues. This allows producers to
produce higher yields at lower costs without risking
product integrity or safety issues down the line.
IoTs in a modern heated godet: How to achieve
sustainable heated godets?
In addition to the energy-saving motors and energy-op-
timised heaters already mentioned, a very important
part of the Retech godet concept is the long service
life and the associated permanent availability, thus
reducing machine downtimes and the production of
rejects. If a godet fails, there is immediately a great
loss, inconvenience and disruption to the production
process. Therefore, Retech has equipped its godets
with additional measuring elements in order to be
able to react preventively to possible damage and
subsequent failure. What options can Retech offer its
customers and what are the advantages?
Thanks to the sophisticated, innovative and proven
temperature measuring transmission system - UTR-6A,
which measures the temperatures in the rotating godet
and transmits the data to the temperature controller

UCR-6 for processing without contact, it is possible to
take further measurements, collect data and evaluate
them. To protect the godet, the ongoing production
and ultimately the sustainability of the entire process
and the godet itself.
1. Induction temperature monitoring
By means of thermocouples, which are installed
in the induction heater per heating zone, the
temperature of the induction coil can be measured
and monitored. If the temperature exceeds a value
based on experience, the coil can be damaged
and the service life reduced. If this temperature is
exceeded, the system reacts with a warning and
simultaneously switches on a cooling function. The
operator now has the possibility to determine the
cause of the increased temperature and to eliminate
it.
2. Bearing temperature monitoring
If the bearing temperature exceeds a certain value,
the bearing life decreases rapidly. The high-tem-
perature grease decomposes and inevitably leads
to bearing damage and godet failure. This leads to
major expenses, downtimes and production losses.
Therefore, it is essential to monitor the bearing
temperatureandtodetectanddelayanapproaching
bearing damage at an early stage until the bearings
can be replaced as a precaution during planned
maintenance work. Thanks to the possibility of
installing, transmitting, displaying and evaluating
additional temperature sensors in the temperature
measurement transmission system below the
bearing points, Retech offers comprehensive
bearing failure prevention and monitoring, which
represents a great added value for the operators.
3. Vibration monitoring
In addition to too high temperatures, vibrations
can also damage a bearing and lead to bearing
failures. If excessive vibrations can be detected
and indicated, this would be a considerable added
value for operators. This would allow an early
and immediate reaction, and the cause of the
vibrations could be determined and eliminated. This
measurement has also been implemented in the
temperature measurement transmission system. At
the stator, the vibrations are measured, evaluated
via the temperature controller and excessive
vibrations are immediately communicated to the
operator.
(Bild 2): IoTs in a modern heated godet
Of course, all this additional information and
measurements are only really helpful if the operator
then also takes measures and eliminates the causes.
Depending on the process, the customer and his
wishes, Retech offers different levels of measures.
From a warning mode for a certain time to the
shutdown of the godet, there are various options that
are defined in detail with the customer. These new
possibilities for extending the service life of heated
godets are a milestone and a significant contribution
to sustainability and reduction of the CO2 footprint.
Today’s demands on godets are not only faster, bigger,
longer, which are required by the ever more advanced
manufacturing processes and materials. “Slow” can
also be a challenge. Certain processes require very
slow speeds. The production of carbon fibres is just
one of many examples in this field. Speeds of 0.1 -
10 m/min. can be a demanding task. To ensure that
such slow speeds with a ratio of 1 : 100 can also be
implemented in a stable manner, Retech has developed
a new drive system. A central point is the elimination
of the coupling that has been common in the industry
up to now, which connected the bearing, gear and
motor. With the godet generation presented at ITMA,
the bearing, the gearbox and the motor are one unit.
Depending on the requirements for speed, torque and
gearbox angular, a modular system is available, which
can be assembled according to the customer’s needs.
A highly interesting new product line that Retech can
present.

(Bild 3): New drive system – for (super) slow speeds
Retech’s godets represent a unique design that enables
customers to drive the draw roll allowing for very low
speed applications of only a few meters per minutes
or even per hour. This helps ensure top performance
regardless of how slowly the process needs to run.
As a highlight, Retech shows the making of the blue
thread. See live how this happens. By means of a
demonstration object, the mentioned news and
products can be seen live in action. All IoTs - vibration
measurements, bearing temperature display, induction
temperature measurement - will be shown. Also the
new drive system for slow-running godets. And as a
highlight, the innovative creation of the blue thread.
For this, Retech will show a modular drawing system,
which underlines the competence as a special solution
provider for R&D facilities, universities and speciality
manufacturers.
In addition to the 3 highlights mentioned above, Retech
will also be presenting other innovative products from
its range: the yarn tension sensors that have proved
quality for years, the proved air-bearing separator
rolls ..... true to the motto engineered and produced in

increased efficiency, improved quality
and consistency of the finished
product, and reduced costs.
What is DTX-300?
Direct twisting involves twisting
together two or more ply
of yarn with a specific twist
level. Precision winding
involves winding the twisted
strand onto a spool or bobbin
with a specific tension and
winding pattern. By combining
these two steps into one, the
DTX-300 machine or process can
streamline the manufacturing
process and produce a high-quality
finished Yarn.
Why Precision Winding?
In precision winding, the yarn is wound
onto the package in a precise and consistent
manner, with a constant number of coils per
rotation of the package. This helps to ensure that
the yarn is wound evenly and consistently, which is
important for a variety of reasons.
One of the key features of precision winding is that
the winding angle decreases as the package diameter
increases. This helps to maintain a consistent winding
tension and prevents the yarn from becoming too
tightly or loosely wound.
Precision winding is typically achieved by using a
thread guide to displace the yarn as it is being wound
onto the package. which helps to ensure that the yarn
is wound in the desired pattern.
Advantages of Combining Twisting and Precision
Winding
Combining direct twisting and precision winding in one
step can provide several benefits in the production of
yarns. One benefit is that it can increase the efficiency
and speed of the production process.
By combining the two steps into one, the production
line can move more quickly and smoothly, reducing the
overall time required to produce the finished yarns.
Another benefit is that it can improve the quality and
consistency
of the
finished yarns. By
performing both steps
in one operation, there is less opportunity for errors
or variations to occur, resulting in more uniform and
reliable yarns.
Additionally, combining direct twisting and precision
winding into one step can also reduce the cost of
production, as it eliminates the need for additional
equipment or labour to perform the separate steps.
This can result in cost savings for the manufacturer.
Industries benefitting using DTX-300
Precision winding is particularly important for heavy
denier yarns like FIBC Big Bags, Industrial Yarns, Raffia
Twines, Sewing Threads, Cotton Twines, Baler Twines,
Agriculture Twines, Ropes, Cords, artificial grass,
technical textiles, etc
Variety of Yarns that can be produced on DTX-300
MEERA's DTX Series - direct twisting and precision
winding machine is designed to produce high-quality
yarns from a variety of materials, including PP tape,
raffia, multifilament, monofilament, and staple yarns.
This versatility makes the machine suitable for use in a
wide range of applications.
www.textilevaluechain.in MAY 2023
DTX-300 Technical Features
DTX-300 machine by MEERA can accommodate large
input packages with a diameter of 260 mm (10 inches)
or 300 mm (12 inches). It is also capable of handling
a wide range of denier, or fibre thickness, ranging
from 600 to 20,000, which may be beneficial for
manufacturing a variety of yarns.
In addition, the DTX-300 has a high-speed twisting and
winding capability of up to 400 meters per minute,
which may be useful for producing large quantities of
yarns quickly.
It also has a variety of takeup tube options, including
parallel cylindrical, conical, and tubeless, which may
allow for greater flexibility in the manufacturing
process. Finally, the DTX-300 also has the option
of an additional panel-controlled oiling device for

t ITMA 2023 in Milan from June 8-14 this year,
Monforts is organising two free-to-attend
seminars and discussions on the potential
of green hydrogen as a new energy source for textile
finishing, drying and related processes.
The seminars will take place at the company’s stand
B106 in Hall 18 on Friday June 9 at 11am, and Monday
June 12, also at 11am, and all are welcome.
Monforts is currently leading a consortium of industrial
partnersanduniversitiesinthethree-yearWasserSTOFF
project, launched in November 2022, that is exploring
all aspects of this exciting and fast-rising new industrial
energy option.
The target of the government-funded project is
to establish to what extent hydrogen can be used
in the future as an alternative heating source for
textile finishing processes. This will first involve tests
on laboratory equipment together with associated
partners and the results will then be transferred to a
stenter frame at the Monforts Advanced Technology
Center (ATC).
“Everybody knows that textile finishing is a high energy
consuming process,” says Monforts Managing Director
Gunnar Meyer.”To make this process more efficient,
Monforts already offers several solutions, but as a
technology leader we are also rising to the challenge
of exploring alternative heating options to be ready for
the future.”
Purity
To be considered “green”, hydrogen must be
produced using a zero-carbon process that is
powered by renewable energy sources such as wind
or solar. Currently, the cleanest method of hydrogen
production is electrolysis, using an electrically-pow-
ered electrolyzer to separate water molecules into
hydrogen and oxygen. The purity of the hydrogen is
also important, and impurities must be removed via a
separation process.
“Despite all its advantages, there are obstacles to
overcome on the way to widespread, economical-
ly-feasible green hydrogen use,” explains Monforts
Textile Technologies Engineer Jonas Beisel. “Until there
are widely available, reliable and economical sources
of this clean power, the cost of producing it will remain
prohibitive. The infrastructure is not yet there, and
hydrogen also has a tendency to make steel brittle and
subject to fracture, which is something that requires
further investigation in both its transportation and use
in industrial processing.
“Green energy’s potential as a clean fuel source is
tremendous, but there is much we need to explore
when considering its use in the textile finishing
processes carried out globally on our industry-leading
Montex stenter dryers and other machines.”
At its Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Mönchen-
gladbach, Monforts will be carrying out intensive tests
and trials to assess the reliability of both processes and

final products when different natural gas and hydrogen
mixtures – up to 100% green hydrogen – are employed.
The results will be closely analysed by the consortium
partners because there are many parameters that at
this stage remain unknown.
The aim, Beisel adds, is to both reduce CO2 emissions
and–followingtherisingpricesandindustryturbulence
experienced by manufacturers over the past year or so
– to further reduce a dependency on natural gas.
The three-year Wasser STOFF project is sponsored by
Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and
Climate Action, and with Monforts at the helm brings
together industrial partners Pleva and NTB Nova Textil,
with academic input from the Hochschule Niederrhein
and the Technical University of Freiberg.
Invitation
“Do come and visit us during ITMA, to discuss not
just hydrogen, but all options for reducing the costs
of energy, as well as water and finishing chemicals
usage,” says Monforts marketing manager Nicole
Croonenbroek. “The current focus of the industry
is very much on cleaner processes to meet the
commitments on sustainability made by the major
fashion brands and we have developed many useful
solutions for helping our customers meet new market
demands since the last ITMA in 2019, which we’re
looking forward to discussing with you.”

Inspecting fabrics after weaving is old school. With USTER®
Q-BAR 2, smart weavers can pinpoint
defects during fabric formation. It’s the right way to reduce material losses and minimize manual
checks. When it comes to fabric quality issues, prevention is better than cure.
The whole fabric is automatically monitored – warp, weft, selvage and leno – and faults are
identified immediately. LEDs signal defect locations to the weaver, with information shown on
the control unit touchscreen. It’s automatic inspection, in-process and instant, so weavers can
react to prevent long-running or repeating faults.

“Sustainability, circularity and Industry 4.0 have been
the primary themes coming from the market for some
time now and our members have responded with
innovations spanning the entire supply chain – from
fibres to finishing – and with a specific emphasis in
many cases on improved software and digitised control
solutions,” says BTMA Jason Kent.
Fibres
On the fibres front, Leeds-based Fibre Extrusion
Technology (FET) moved into 2023 with a record
order book and its globally-installed multifilament,
monofilament and nonwoven systems have now been
employed by customers to process more than 40
separate polymers.
“The research projects we have collaborated in
have become increasingly challenging in terms of
technical specifications and this is enabling us to
constantly expand the installations we can offer,”
says FET managing director Richard Slack. “Following
the surge in interest in our spunbond and meltblown
technologies over the past few years – many of them
to address the PPE shortages during the Covid-19
pamdemic – we are now seeing a lot of interest from
the market in bio-based polymers produced from
biomass feedstocks.”
FET’s newly-opened £1.5 million Fibre Development
Centre will enable the company, which is at stand A101
in Hall 1 at ITMA 2023, to further accelerate new fibre
trials and product RD.
Meanwhile, Bradford-based Tatham (Hall 10, stand

established machinery for the processing of natural
staple fibres – and most notably, its technologies for
the decortication, fibre opening and fabric forming of

Fabrics and composites
Since making its debut at ITMA 2019, Hudders-
field-based Optima 3D (Hall 6, stand A213) has installed
a significant number of its new 3D weaving machines
that drew such interest in Barcelona four years ago.
The company’s looms offer many advanced features
over conventional weaving machines, particularly in
versatility, as a result of the comprehensive use of
digital control systems allowing rapid parameter and
sequence changes, coupled with an innovative shuttle
system.
“Our aim from the start was to look at 3D weaving
machine technology with a fresh pair of eyes and
produce a machine that is simply better by design
and delivers real benefits to our customers,” says
managing director Steve Cooper. “The key interest in
this technology has been in producing new structures
from expensive fibres such as carbon into workable
structures, as the essential reinforcements for
composites.”
Composites production has also been a major area
of development for Northwich-based Cygnet Texkimp
(Hall 3, stand A107) which has developed an extensive
portfolio of technologies for handling fibres and yarns
like carbon and glass. The company’s latest launch is
a multi roll stack developed within the £40 million UK
Ascend programme led by Tier-1 aerospace supplier
GKN Aerospace. The stack enables high performance
prepreg and towpreg materials to be manufactured
more efficiently and sustainably without compromising
the accuracy of the product, speed, or consistency.
“This space-saving machine offers a way to
manufacture towpreg and prepreg materials quickly
and accurately while delivering considerable cost
and energy benefits,” explains Graeme Jones, wide
web product director at Cygnet Texkimp. “It is a more
sustainable and cost-effective way to process prepregs
which offers the potential for them to be used more
widely in high-volume and mainstream applications.”
Leeds-based Roaches International also works closely
with the composites sector, supplying a range of
autoclave and thermosetting technologies, in addition
to its wide range of well-known textile performance
testing instruments that are used by many leading
fashion brands. Roaches will be highlighting its design
and built of innovative machines which integrate
into existing manufacturing plants, such as the latest
vertical IR (infrared) bonding and chemical application
line which can process narrow width yarns or textiles
at up to 600 metres per minute on as many as six lanes.
Roaches will have its largest stand at ITMA to date this
year, at E302 in Hall 4.
Finishing
Cambridge-headquartered Alchemie Technology (Hall
7, stand D308) is the latest fast-rising company to join
the BTMA.
“With our Endeavour, waterless, low energy dyeing
and Novara, low energy textile finishing technologies,
we are disrupting manufacturing processes that
are responsible for over 3% of global CO2 emissions
and 20% of global water pollution,” says Alchemie
founder and CEO Dr Alan Hudd. “Our solutions both
dramatically reduce the environmental impact and the
cost of dyeing and finishing, which has proven to be a
compelling combination.”
Influence
“These are just a few examples of the textile machinery
innovation that’s coming out of the UK right now,” Kent
concludes. “It’s very exciting to see the accumulated
know-how of our member companies continuing to
exert a significant influence in advanced industries
such as aerospace and automotive, while leaving no
stone unturned in promoting environmental best
practices through adapting to the latest demands
of the market. BTMA companies have a lot more to
unveil at ITMA 2023 and everyone is looking forward
to fruitful demonstrations and discussions in Milan.”

aging look is now called Atmos”- highlighted Carmen
Silla, Marketing Director at Jeanologia.
“Thanks to INDRA, we can achieve perfect control of
the humidity and atmosphere temperature to achieve
exceptional garment abrasion and discoloration. We
attain the same effects that were previously only
possible with water, chemicals and pumice stones,
while ensuring perfect reproducibility and enhanced
productivity in a more efficient, sustainable and safe
way”- added Silla.
Jeanologia defines the production plants of the
present and future
DuringITMA2023,Jeanologiawilldefinetheproduction
plants of the present and future with the seamless
integration of its technologies and the connectivity
of its machines: from its laser (up to 50% faster and
with 50% less energy consumption than other laser
technologies on the market) and its high-speed
washers with class-leading low water consumption
that are ready to be connected to Jeanologia’s eFlow
nano bubble system. These technologies are coupled
with the company’s H2Zero water recycling system for
a perfect, fully circular loop.
The production plants designed by Jeanologia are
based on automation, connectivity, digitalization,
sustainability and creativity with the focus on achieving
an authentic fashion product, in a sustainable and
efficient way, and at the lowest production cost.
The company, with a global presence and acting locally,
has positioned itself as a technological partner of
reference for brands and laundries seeking to be more
sustainable and efficient.

industry with its disruptive technologies: laser, G2

  • 6. 6 www.textilevaluechain.in Digitalization and Industry 4.0 revolutionize the textile industry in India and beyond Digitalization and Industry 4.0 are two trends that can help the textile industry overcome challenges such as supply chain disruptions, climate change, and changing consumer preferences. Digitalization refers to the integration of digital technologies into business processes, while Industry 4.0 is the integration of digital technologies into all aspects of manufacturing. In the textile industry, digitalization is t r a n s f o r m i n g m a n u f a c t u r i n g processes through automation and data analytics. Robotics and artificial intelligence are optimizing production, while data analytics is monitoring and improving various aspects of manufacturing. Digitalization is also transforming the supply chain through blockchain technology and digital platforms that facilitate communication and collaboration between different players. Industry 4.0 is creating smart factories in the textile industry that are more efficient, flexible, and sustainable. Integration of sensors and other IoT devices is optimizing production in real-time, leading to higher yields and lower costs. Automation is reducing labour costs, and intelligent systems are being created by integrating automation technologies with machine learning and predictive analytics. India is at the forefront of both digitalization and Industry 4.0 in the textile industry. Automation technologies such as robotics and artificial intelligence are being used to streamline and optimise production, leading to faster turnaround times, higher yields, and lower costs. Additionally, data analytics is being used to monitor and optimize various aspects of the manufacturing process, from raw material selection to finished product quality control. Another area where digitalisation is transforming the textile industry is in the supply chain. Blockchain technology, for example, is being used to increase transparency and traceability in the supply chain, allowingcompaniestoidentifyandaddressissuesmore quickly and efficiently. Furthermore, digital platforms are being developed to facilitate communication and collaboration between different players in the supply chain, from suppliers to manufacturers to retailers. Industry 4.0 is another trend that is shaping the future of the textile industry. Industry 4.0 refers to the fourth industrial revolution, which is characterized by the integration of digital technologies into all aspects of manufacturing. Industry 4.0 encompasses a range of technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial Intelligence, and cloud computing, that are transforming the way that goods are produced and delivered. In the textile industry, Industry 4.0 is being used to create smart factories that are more efficient, flexible, and sustainable. • 12. MAY 2023 12 www.textilevaluechain.in Cover Story Introduction: Digitization involves integrating digital technologies into the various aspects of an industry’s operations, including production, supply chain management, marketing, and customer engagement. This improves efficiency, optimizes processes, and enhances performance, creating a more efficient and adaptable organization. By leveraging digital technologies, companies can gain insights into customer behavior, respond to customer demands, and continuously improve product design to retain customer loyalty. The G2G (Garment to Garment) manufacturing business strategy is popular among leading fashion brands in the international market. Countries like India can partner with them to achieve circularity in textiles, which can only be accomplished by recycling used products repeatedly. However, the major issue with G2G is the hygiene of used garments. The process of converting used garments, trims, or fabric waste into cloth/garment involves tearing and openingthefibersfollowedbyyarns, fabrics, andfinally, garments. If the fibers recycled from used garments are converted into products where hygiene is not an issue, then such products can be accepted without any hesitation. In thecase G2G hygiene is a key issue, as used garments may have been contaminated in various ways. Cleaning and decontamination of waste is a must before converting it into finished garments. Even if the industry claims decontamination in its processes, it is difficult to convince customers. Digitization can be the solution to this issue. Process of post-consumer G2G: The post-consumer garment recycling process is a rigorous exercise. The industry collects garments from consumers of various regions in bundles, without control over the source or type of garments. Upon receipt, the garments are segregated according to the recycling industry’s business model, based on color, garment type, fiber composition, and more. Non-textile materials such as buttons, trims, and metal items are removed before the material is ready for processing. Dr. Prabhakar Bhat, Ph.D., IIT Delhi Enhancing Customer Confidence in Used Garment Recycling through Digitization Director and Consultant for Technical Textiles Pruthvi TechTex Solutions
  • 13. www.textilevaluechain.in 13 MAY 2023 In the case of used garments, they are washed and dried as the first step, and decontaminated for hygiene purposes. Ozonation is the preferred method to ensure protection against microbes and cross-infec- tion issues for customers of these recycled garments. The garments are then processed through cutting and tearing machines to convert them into fiber. Strong magnets in the tearing line remove any metallic material from the fibrous mass. The recycled fibers are blended with virgin or recycled polyester fibers to produce yarn. Fabric is formed and garments are made from these recycled materials. Even garments out of 100% recycled fibers are also possible. The manufacturing processes may vary depending on the company’s business model, including the yarn or fabric production, garment design, and the type of processes used. Adoption of digitization in G2G process: Digitization plays a crucial role in supporting the G2G sustainability business model, particularly in the decontamination process and monitoring. To ensure traceability, each lot of raw material is coded during processing, and the code is updated as it passes through each operation of the garment waste to fiber conversion process, yarn and fabric formation, and garmenting. The final updated code is tagged to the garment or printed on a label attached to it. During the manufacturing process, product specifications and processes are defined that outline the desired characteristics of the product. A bill of materials (BOM) is created that lists all the raw materials and processes that will be used, and a plan is developed that outlines the steps that will be taken to manufacture the product, including quality control checks. The manufacturing process is coded using software that tracks the progress and ensures that each step is completed according to the plan. Automated process checks are built into the software to ensure that the product passes through each defined process, and the software generates the final code in the desired format for tagging to that lot of the garment. If any lot has missed the critical process of decontamination, the finished product can be passed again through the decontamination process to ensure customer safety. The software will ensure that without the material passing through the decontamination machines the final code will not be generated. If the decontamination is not in working condition, for any reason, then also the code will not be updated, and the final code is not printed. Similarly, unless decontam- ination is done the verification of code by customer would fail. Thus, digitization safeguards the health and cleanliness of the customers. The final coding is tagged or printed on labels of every garment, and customers can verify the manufacturing processes undergone by the garment by scanning a QR code or by checking the code online. By utilizing digitization, companies can ensure traceability, transparency, and safety in their manufacturing processes, ultimately supporting a sustainable and circular fashion industry. Such digitized manufacturing processes would enhance brand values of the companies that work on G2G philosophy. Conclusion: Digitization can emerge as a game-changing solution in the textile industry’s shift towards sustainability, particularly in the realm of post-consumer garment waste recycling. While the industry has been recycling in-process and pre-consumer waste for a few decades, thegrowingconcernaroundsoilanddeep-seapollution caused by textile waste has led to the demand for recycling post-consumer garment and textile waste. In any business the companies will take interest only if the product/process brings profit and/or value to them. For the industry to adopt waste recycling as a wealth-creating business rather than just an environmental protection measure, it must add significant value to the recycled products. A textile sample is a piece of cloth or fabric designed to represent a larger whole fabric. A small sample, usually taken from existing fabric, is called a swatch, whilst a larger sample, made as a trial to test print production methods, is called a strike off. For plain-dyed fabrics it is called a lab-dip, and for yarn-dyed fabrics (like stripes and checks), it is called a handloom samples. The use of swatches has formed an essential part of the design process of textiles throughout different cultures across history. Samples enable designers to display different types of fabric, demonstrating how different colours, materials, trims and methods of weaving will look in real terms—something that may not be readily apparent from a paper of digital design—before the entire fabric is manufactured. A textile manufacturer may bring together several swatches of materials into a single sample book, which may serve to enable a salesperson to display a wide selection of fabrics to potential customers in a convenient manner. • 24. 24 he blue thread moves on! Retech will present various interesting innovations under the blue thread theme and related to sustainability for heated godets at the upcoming ITMA at Stand B108 in hall 1. (Bild 1): Retech heated godet roll Retech as expert in drawing your fibres to perfection will be showing innovations in the following fields in Milan. • IoT in a modern heated godet • New drive system for (super) slow speeds • Special machine construction of drawing frames and the making of the blue thread Godet rolls are essential components in the production of synthetic fibres. These heated, ambient or cooled rolls help achieve the perfect yarn quality for a range of materials and applications when it comes to heat treatment for filament fibre applications. Retech godet rolls have revolutionized synthetic fibre processing by providing unique designs that allow for greater control over temperature, fibre treatment and sustainability. In addition to its innovative designs, Retech also focuses on energy efficiency when it comes to motors and heating equipment. This means all Retech products use less energy than traditional systems—making them more cost effective over time while achieving excellent results. Retech’s heated godet rolls are designed with two challenging requirements in mind: applying exactly the correct temperature for the material being produced; and maintaining this level continuously throughout the process. To do this, their designs incorporate energy saving technology, using single-zone or multi-zone heating via induction, infrared or resistance. This ensures accuracy and precision when it comes to surface temperature profiles - guaranteeing consistent yarn quality every time. Retech also offers unbeatable value when it comes to cost savings – thanks to its low maintenance requirements meaning less downtime, lifetime bearings meaning no additional lubrication required. As well as its IoT ready monitoring feature which protects against potential damage due to excess temperatures or other issues. This allows producers to produce higher yields at lower costs without risking product integrity or safety issues down the line. IoTs in a modern heated godet: How to achieve sustainable heated godets? In addition to the energy-saving motors and energy-op- timised heaters already mentioned, a very important part of the Retech godet concept is the long service life and the associated permanent availability, thus reducing machine downtimes and the production of rejects. If a godet fails, there is immediately a great loss, inconvenience and disruption to the production process. Therefore, Retech has equipped its godets with additional measuring elements in order to be able to react preventively to possible damage and subsequent failure. What options can Retech offer its customers and what are the advantages? Thanks to the sophisticated, innovative and proven temperature measuring transmission system - UTR-6A, which measures the temperatures in the rotating godet and transmits the data to the temperature controller Retech to Reveal its Many Innovations T www.textilevaluechain.in MAY 2023 Pre ITMA
  • 25. UCR-6 for processing without contact, it is possible to take further measurements, collect data and evaluate them. To protect the godet, the ongoing production and ultimately the sustainability of the entire process and the godet itself. 1. Induction temperature monitoring By means of thermocouples, which are installed in the induction heater per heating zone, the temperature of the induction coil can be measured and monitored. If the temperature exceeds a value based on experience, the coil can be damaged and the service life reduced. If this temperature is exceeded, the system reacts with a warning and simultaneously switches on a cooling function. The operator now has the possibility to determine the cause of the increased temperature and to eliminate it. 2. Bearing temperature monitoring If the bearing temperature exceeds a certain value, the bearing life decreases rapidly. The high-tem- perature grease decomposes and inevitably leads to bearing damage and godet failure. This leads to major expenses, downtimes and production losses. Therefore, it is essential to monitor the bearing temperatureandtodetectanddelayanapproaching bearing damage at an early stage until the bearings can be replaced as a precaution during planned maintenance work. Thanks to the possibility of installing, transmitting, displaying and evaluating additional temperature sensors in the temperature measurement transmission system below the bearing points, Retech offers comprehensive bearing failure prevention and monitoring, which represents a great added value for the operators. 3. Vibration monitoring In addition to too high temperatures, vibrations can also damage a bearing and lead to bearing failures. If excessive vibrations can be detected and indicated, this would be a considerable added value for operators. This would allow an early and immediate reaction, and the cause of the vibrations could be determined and eliminated. This measurement has also been implemented in the temperature measurement transmission system. At the stator, the vibrations are measured, evaluated via the temperature controller and excessive vibrations are immediately communicated to the operator. (Bild 2): IoTs in a modern heated godet Of course, all this additional information and measurements are only really helpful if the operator then also takes measures and eliminates the causes. Depending on the process, the customer and his wishes, Retech offers different levels of measures. From a warning mode for a certain time to the shutdown of the godet, there are various options that are defined in detail with the customer. These new possibilities for extending the service life of heated godets are a milestone and a significant contribution to sustainability and reduction of the CO2 footprint. Today’s demands on godets are not only faster, bigger, longer, which are required by the ever more advanced manufacturing processes and materials. “Slow” can also be a challenge. Certain processes require very slow speeds. The production of carbon fibres is just one of many examples in this field. Speeds of 0.1 - 10 m/min. can be a demanding task. To ensure that such slow speeds with a ratio of 1 : 100 can also be implemented in a stable manner, Retech has developed a new drive system. A central point is the elimination of the coupling that has been common in the industry up to now, which connected the bearing, gear and motor. With the godet generation presented at ITMA, the bearing, the gearbox and the motor are one unit. Depending on the requirements for speed, torque and gearbox angular, a modular system is available, which can be assembled according to the customer’s needs. A highly interesting new product line that Retech can present. www.textilevaluechain.in MAY 2023 25

  • 27. 27 increased efficiency, improved quality and consistency of the finished product, and reduced costs. What is DTX-300? Direct twisting involves twisting together two or more ply of yarn with a specific twist level. Precision winding involves winding the twisted strand onto a spool or bobbin with a specific tension and winding pattern. By combining these two steps into one, the DTX-300 machine or process can streamline the manufacturing process and produce a high-quality finished Yarn. Why Precision Winding? In precision winding, the yarn is wound onto the package in a precise and consistent manner, with a constant number of coils per rotation of the package. This helps to ensure that the yarn is wound evenly and consistently, which is important for a variety of reasons. One of the key features of precision winding is that the winding angle decreases as the package diameter increases. This helps to maintain a consistent winding tension and prevents the yarn from becoming too tightly or loosely wound. Precision winding is typically achieved by using a thread guide to displace the yarn as it is being wound onto the package. which helps to ensure that the yarn is wound in the desired pattern. Advantages of Combining Twisting and Precision Winding Combining direct twisting and precision winding in one step can provide several benefits in the production of yarns. One benefit is that it can increase the efficiency and speed of the production process. By combining the two steps into one, the production line can move more quickly and smoothly, reducing the overall time required to produce the finished yarns. Another benefit is that it can improve the quality and consistency of the finished yarns. By performing both steps in one operation, there is less opportunity for errors or variations to occur, resulting in more uniform and reliable yarns. Additionally, combining direct twisting and precision winding into one step can also reduce the cost of production, as it eliminates the need for additional equipment or labour to perform the separate steps. This can result in cost savings for the manufacturer. Industries benefitting using DTX-300 Precision winding is particularly important for heavy denier yarns like FIBC Big Bags, Industrial Yarns, Raffia Twines, Sewing Threads, Cotton Twines, Baler Twines, Agriculture Twines, Ropes, Cords, artificial grass, technical textiles, etc Variety of Yarns that can be produced on DTX-300 MEERA's DTX Series - direct twisting and precision winding machine is designed to produce high-quality yarns from a variety of materials, including PP tape, raffia, multifilament, monofilament, and staple yarns. This versatility makes the machine suitable for use in a wide range of applications. www.textilevaluechain.in MAY 2023
  • 28. DTX-300 Technical Features DTX-300 machine by MEERA can accommodate large input packages with a diameter of 260 mm (10 inches) or 300 mm (12 inches). It is also capable of handling a wide range of denier, or fibre thickness, ranging from 600 to 20,000, which may be beneficial for manufacturing a variety of yarns. In addition, the DTX-300 has a high-speed twisting and winding capability of up to 400 meters per minute, which may be useful for producing large quantities of yarns quickly. It also has a variety of takeup tube options, including parallel cylindrical, conical, and tubeless, which may allow for greater flexibility in the manufacturing process. Finally, the DTX-300 also has the option of an additional panel-controlled oiling device for extra lubrication, which is useful for premium quality finished yarns. • 56. 56 t ITMA 2023 in Milan from June 8-14 this year, Monforts is organising two free-to-attend seminars and discussions on the potential of green hydrogen as a new energy source for textile finishing, drying and related processes. The seminars will take place at the company’s stand B106 in Hall 18 on Friday June 9 at 11am, and Monday June 12, also at 11am, and all are welcome. Monforts is currently leading a consortium of industrial partnersanduniversitiesinthethree-yearWasserSTOFF project, launched in November 2022, that is exploring all aspects of this exciting and fast-rising new industrial energy option. The target of the government-funded project is to establish to what extent hydrogen can be used in the future as an alternative heating source for textile finishing processes. This will first involve tests on laboratory equipment together with associated partners and the results will then be transferred to a stenter frame at the Monforts Advanced Technology Center (ATC). “Everybody knows that textile finishing is a high energy consuming process,” says Monforts Managing Director Gunnar Meyer.”To make this process more efficient, Monforts already offers several solutions, but as a technology leader we are also rising to the challenge of exploring alternative heating options to be ready for the future.” Purity To be considered “green”, hydrogen must be produced using a zero-carbon process that is powered by renewable energy sources such as wind or solar. Currently, the cleanest method of hydrogen production is electrolysis, using an electrically-pow- ered electrolyzer to separate water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The purity of the hydrogen is also important, and impurities must be removed via a separation process. “Despite all its advantages, there are obstacles to overcome on the way to widespread, economical- ly-feasible green hydrogen use,” explains Monforts Textile Technologies Engineer Jonas Beisel. “Until there are widely available, reliable and economical sources of this clean power, the cost of producing it will remain prohibitive. The infrastructure is not yet there, and hydrogen also has a tendency to make steel brittle and subject to fracture, which is something that requires further investigation in both its transportation and use in industrial processing. “Green energy’s potential as a clean fuel source is tremendous, but there is much we need to explore when considering its use in the textile finishing processes carried out globally on our industry-leading Montex stenter dryers and other machines.” At its Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Mönchen- gladbach, Monforts will be carrying out intensive tests and trials to assess the reliability of both processes and Members and associates of the WasserSTOFF consortium from Monforts, Pleva, NTB Nova Textil, TU Freiberg, Hochschule Niederrhein and Honeywell Thermal Solutions, at the launch meeting of the new project at the Monforts ATC in Mönchengladbach. The results will be closely analysed by the consortium partners because there are many parameters that at this stage remain unknown. The aim, Beisel adds, is to both reduce CO2 emissions and–followingtherisingpricesandindustryturbulence experienced by manufacturers over the past year or so – to further reduce a dependency on natural gas. The three-year Wasser STOFF project is sponsored by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and with Monforts at the helm brings together industrial partners Pleva and NTB Nova Textil, with academic input from the Hochschule Niederrhein and the Technical University of Freiberg. Invitation “Do come and visit us during ITMA, to discuss not just hydrogen, but all options for reducing the costs of energy, as well as water and finishing chemicals usage,” says Monforts marketing manager Nicole Croonenbroek. “The current focus of the industry is very much on cleaner processes to meet the commitments on sustainability made by the major fashion brands and we have developed many useful solutions for helping our customers meet new market demands since the last ITMA in 2019, which we’re looking forward to discussing with you.” t ITMA Milan 2023, Loepfe is taking a new approach and inviting visitors to witness firsthand the remarkable advantages Loepfe users experience with its cutting-edge sensor technology. It’s the right way to reduce material losses and minimize manual checks. When it comes to fabric quality issues, prevention is better than cure. The whole fabric is automatically monitored – warp, weft, selvage and leno – and faults are identified immediately. LEDs signal defect locations to the weaver, with information shown on the control unit touchscreen. It’s automatic inspection, in-process and instant, so weavers can react to prevent long-running or repeating faults. • 67. 67 “Sustainability, circularity and Industry 4.0 have been the primary themes coming from the market for some time now and our members have responded with innovations spanning the entire supply chain – from fibres to finishing – and with a specific emphasis in many cases on improved software and digitised control solutions,” says BTMA Jason Kent. Fibres On the fibres front, Leeds-based Fibre Extrusion Technology (FET) moved into 2023 with a record order book and its globally-installed multifilament, monofilament and nonwoven systems have now been employed by customers to process more than 40 separate polymers. “The research projects we have collaborated in have become increasingly challenging in terms of technical specifications and this is enabling us to constantly expand the installations we can offer,” says FET managing director Richard Slack. “Following the surge in interest in our spunbond and meltblown technologies over the past few years – many of them to address the PPE shortages during the Covid-19 pamdemic – we are now seeing a lot of interest from the market in bio-based polymers produced from biomass feedstocks.” FET’s newly-opened £1.5 million Fibre Development Centre will enable the company, which is at stand A101 in Hall 1 at ITMA 2023, to further accelerate new fibre trials and product RD. Meanwhile, Bradford-based Tatham (Hall 10, stand C212) is currently fielding a lot of enquiries for its established machinery for the processing of natural staple fibres – and most notably, its technologies for the decortication, fibre opening and fabric forming of hemp. “There has been an explosion in the interest in hemp production, from farmers through to fibre production, At the forefront from fibres to finishing An extensive range of technologies and services from the UK will be on display at the forthcoming ITMA 2023 in Milan from June 8-14, with over 30 members of the British Textile Machinery Association (BTMA) in attendance. • 68. 68 and a wide range of new potential end-uses are being explored,” says Tatham director Tim Porrit. “We look forward to discussing options with any companies looking to enter this field or expand their existing capabilities in Milan.” Fabrics and composites Since making its debut at ITMA 2019, Hudders- field-based Optima 3D (Hall 6, stand A213) has installed a significant number of its new 3D weaving machines that drew such interest in Barcelona four years ago. The company’s looms offer many advanced features over conventional weaving machines, particularly in versatility, as a result of the comprehensive use of digital control systems allowing rapid parameter and sequence changes, coupled with an innovative shuttle system. “Our aim from the start was to look at 3D weaving machine technology with a fresh pair of eyes and produce a machine that is simply better by design and delivers real benefits to our customers,” says managing director Steve Cooper. “The key interest in this technology has been in producing new structures from expensive fibres such as carbon into workable structures, as the essential reinforcements for composites.” Composites production has also been a major area of development for Northwich-based Cygnet Texkimp (Hall 3, stand A107) which has developed an extensive portfolio of technologies for handling fibres and yarns like carbon and glass. The company’s latest launch is a multi roll stack developed within the £40 million UK Ascend programme led by Tier-1 aerospace supplier GKN Aerospace. The stack enables high performance prepreg and towpreg materials to be manufactured more efficiently and sustainably without compromising the accuracy of the product, speed, or consistency. “This space-saving machine offers a way to manufacture towpreg and prepreg materials quickly and accurately while delivering considerable cost and energy benefits,” explains Graeme Jones, wide web product director at Cygnet Texkimp. “It is a more sustainable and cost-effective way to process prepregs which offers the potential for them to be used more widely in high-volume and mainstream applications.” Leeds-based Roaches International also works closely with the composites sector, supplying a range of autoclave and thermosetting technologies, in addition to its wide range of well-known textile performance testing instruments that are used by many leading fashion brands. Roaches will be highlighting its design and built of innovative machines which integrate into existing manufacturing plants, such as the latest vertical IR (infrared) bonding and chemical application line which can process narrow width yarns or textiles at up to 600 metres per minute on as many as six lanes. Roaches will have its largest stand at ITMA to date this year, at E302 in Hall 4. Finishing Cambridge-headquartered Alchemie Technology (Hall 7, stand D308) is the latest fast-rising company to join the BTMA. “With our Endeavour, waterless, low energy dyeing and Novara, low energy textile finishing technologies, we are disrupting manufacturing processes that are responsible for over 3% of global CO2 emissions and 20% of global water pollution,” says Alchemie founder and CEO Dr Alan Hudd. “Our solutions both dramatically reduce the environmental impact and the cost of dyeing and finishing, which has proven to be a compelling combination.” Influence “These are just a few examples of the textile machinery innovation that’s coming out of the UK right now,” Kent concludes. “It’s very exciting to see the accumulated know-how of our member companies continuing to exert a significant influence in advanced industries such as aerospace and automotive, while leaving no stone unturned in promoting environmental best practices through adapting to the latest demands of the market. BTMA companies have a lot more to unveil at ITMA 2023 and everyone is looking forward to fruitful demonstrations and discussions in Milan.” Founded in 1940, the British Textile Machinery Association actively promotes British textile machinery manufacturers and their products to the world. The non-profit organisation acts as a bridge between its members and the increasingly diverse industries within the textile manufacturing sector. www.textilevaluechain.in MAY 2023
