As an association, we support our members in many
ways. On the one hand, we promote the Swiss textile
machinery industry. Be it via symposia in markets
such as Indonesia last August. Or through our
presence in social and print media. Furthermore, we
invest a lot in innovation support for our member
companies. We regularly organize company-spe-
cific workshops on current topics and challenges.
Currently on the topic of sustainability. We also
have a cooperation with the Swiss Textile College,
where we offer our member companies introductory
training for their new employees from outside the
industry.
On the premises of ITMA 2023, we would like to

from your members?
As always, the companies will only present their
innovations at the exhibition itself. However, it
can be assumed that the areas of automation,
digitalisation and the further development of
machines and solutions to reduce the consumption
ofrawmaterialssuchasenergy,waterandchemicals
will continue to be the focus.
As we are entering Industry 4.0, what are your

Digitalization offers a wide range of opportunities,
be it in product or process optimization or in the
development of completely new business models.
Our member companies use these opportunities to
generate maximum customer benefit.
There are certainly many opportunities for
automation in our industry. But there are also
limitations. Nevertheless, I assume that the
textile industry will gradually rely on automation
solutions.
As the ITMA 2023 approaches, what do you expect
ƚŽƐĞĞŽƌůŽŽŬĨŽƌǁĂƌĚƚŽŝŶƚŚĞĞdžŚŝďŝƟŽŶĨƌŽŵLJŽƵƌ
members and other countries?
ITMA continues to be the Olympics of textile
machinery exhibitions. Accordingly, all Swiss
exhibitors have great expectations of the upcoming
ITMA in Milan. Even though the current business
climate has been hampered by the challenges, it will
be the place to meet in 2023.
Exhibitor spaces are almost sold out, visitor tickets
are already being taken and there are new features
at the exhibition. For example, for the first time there
is a Start-up Valley, where sixteen young companies
will present their solutions for our industry. The
great added value of such an exhibition, however, is
the opportunity to be in personal exchange with the
global textile industry again.

We live in a time with probably more simultaneous
challenges than ever before. The Ukraine war,
the related energy shortages in Europe, the still
unresolved supply chain challenges. Added to this
are the high inflation rates and the resulting curbing
of consumption, to name just the most prevalent
ones. These are major challenges for the global
textile industry. For example, investments in new
machineryandequipmentarebeingputonhold.And
consumers are cutting back on their consumption.
And despite everything, I am very confident for
our industry. It is used to strong cyclicality and has
continuously adapted.

next 5 years?
Both digitalization and sustainability are not
just buzzwords but continue to influence all
developments and innovations over the coming
years, not only in the textile machinery industry.
Regarding sustainability, it is and stays a big and
very important topic. It has been for years, but now
it is even more important due to the new EU strategy
for sustainable textiles. As an association, we have
also taken on this topic and are currently running an
individual program for our member companies. Of
course, some member companies are already very
advanced in this topic, but others are certainly able
to benefit.

Inspecting fabrics after weaving is old school. With USTER®
Q-BAR 2, smart weavers can pinpoint
defects during fabric formation. It’s the right way to reduce material losses and minimize manual
checks. When it comes to fabric quality issues, prevention is better than cure.
The whole fabric is automatically monitored – warp, weft, selvage and leno – and faults are
identified immediately. LEDs signal defect locations to the weaver, with information shown on
the control unit touchscreen. It’s automatic inspection, in-process and instant, so weavers can
react to prevent long-running or repeating faults.
USTER®
Q-BAR 2 sets the future standard, controlling the weaving process instead of the output.

Share about the Bihar Industrial Investment
WƌŽŵŽƟŽŶWŽůŝĐLJ
Bihar govt. in 2022 has come up with the new policy.
The policy in addition to other incentives which is
given to all sectors. The general incentives are interest
subvention, state GST reimbursement and stamp duty
exemptions, registration fee exemptions. Apart from
that the new policy gives the capital subsidy of 15%.
The most significant incentive in my opinion is the
employment subsidy. That government gives Rs 5000
per employee per month for a period of five years
to the unit. So if the unit is giving say Rs 15000 (per
month),thegovernmentwillgiveRs5000(permonth)
out of that to unit. The third incentive to textiles
industries is power subsidy of 2 Rs/ per unit. This new
policy has come in the 2022 and the applications (for
the policy) can be given by June 2023.
Criteria or requirements companies for eligibility
Any unit or company who wants to put up a unit in
textile and leather can participate. The employment
subsidy is available for units which are more
employment oriented for example garmenting,
product manufacturing. It is a very simple format,
they just have to apply online and we give clearance
immediately. Along with this, the government is also
giving lot of infrastructure support. For instance we
are creating 24, 00,000 sq. ft. of industrial sheds,
(50000 Sq.ft. each). So companies who don’t want to
invest in lands or buildings, they can take this sheds
on rent which is also very low from Rs 4 to Rs 8/ Per
Sq. ft. and the companies can simply come with the
machines and start their production. We are also
giving lands, and the land cost is reduced up to 80%
then the general land cost in Bihar, which is quite
high due to population density. But the government
has provided specific discount to the industry. The
main attraction for Bihar I would say that we have
got a huge pool of skilled resources. If you go to any
cluster in India, you will find about 50% of workers
from Bihar. So these people want to come back to
Bihar. Apart from huge man power, water and power
are another benefits as we are surplus in both these
resources. The government is with the industry
and all the clearances are given through the single
window. So anybody who wants to set-up a textile
unit in Bihar. They would find it a smooth experience.
ŽŶŶĞĐƟǀŝƚLJŽĨŝŶĚƵƐƚƌŝĂůĂƌĞĂƐŝŶŝŚĂƌ
Connectivity wise, Bihar has one of the best logistical
network, there are four lane and six lane highways
which are crisscrossing the state from north to
south and east to west and there are many new
highways under construction by national highway
authority. So connectivity by road is very good.
The eastern dedicated freight corridor is passing
through the state. There are three airports within
the state and four airports on the border. So there
are total seven airports catering to the state. And
also you don’t have to travel more than two hours
to reach the airport in the state. So connectivity wise
state is very good, we have 75 industrial areas. The

industrial sheds are being developed in the ten of
these industrial areas and all of them are very well
connected by road and by train.
The industrial future for Bihar
I think the future is very bright and I think Bihar
is perhaps the only state which can give real
competition to other countries which are doing
well in textiles and garmenting. Bihar because of its
resourceslikemanpower,water,electricityandland,
we are in very good position to give competition to
Vietnam, Bangladesh and develop it as the next
textile hub. We already have the biggest bag cluster
in Muzaffarpur. So willingly we will be a big textile
cluster in coming times.

Business
For the environmental policy, everybody has to follow
the country’s law however we as state government
and Bihar Industrial Development Authority provide
allhelptoprocesstherequirement.AndIdon’tseeany
problems getting the environmental clearances in the
state. About re-locating the units, our policy applies
to them also who are shifting their unit in the state.
They will get the same befits. We have an investment
promotion team. We assign one person to each unit
and he leads them, guides them and supports them
in getting all the clearances. So the company or the
units doesn’t have to go to different departments
they just interact with industries department and we
get all the clearances done from the state.
Export Oriented units
Of course, when we are promoting textiles it is not
only for domestic market, it is in fact I am happy to
say that there is a leather apparel manufacturer
who has started construction on a 10 acres plot
and he is investing Rs. 110 Cr. And it is 100% export
oriented unit. Right now they are in Delhi NCR. They
have four units there and they are now putting a
big facility in Bihar. So, one of the requirements for
exports these day is you need big land because of
compliance issues, second is sustainability and the
third is requirements such as gender sensitivity. In
Bihar we are capable of doing these things. We are
also promoting involvement of women workforce,
there is a govt. organization for women called
‘Jeevika’. We are training women so the workforce
can be predominantly women workforce in the
garmenting. And then for sustainability we are
focusing on the good infrastructure. So in short,
Bihar will be a good hub for export.

Our government has recently taken a decision
that in all government procurement we will give
price preference to the units in the state. So in all
government tenders the price preference of 2% will
be given to large industries and 7% of preference will
be given to MSMEs. So with this we are promoting
manufacturing in the state. So whoever puts the unit
in the state will not only get purchase preference
but the price preference also.
Cluster Development in Bihar
With all our policy and measures we are trying to
replicate the same successful models, so we are not
only developing in textile, we are also promoting
the same model in food processing as Bihar has a
big food processing potential. So we are trying to
develop the same model of anchor investor led small
industries in food processing, textile and leather. I am
sure that in coming times more and more people who
are working outside, they will return to the state.
Message to Investors
My message to the investors will be first come
to the state, what I see is that many people have
different perceptions about the state and they have
never visited the state. So please come to the state,
explore the opportunities, we are there to support
you and if you think, it is good place to invest then
you should invest. But for that you have to visit the
state first.

Interview
As a startup, we would like to know about your
ƐƚĂƌƚƵƉũŽƵƌŶĞLJ͍
I am Dr. Anasuya Roy, I am founder of NanoSafe
Solutions, just to give my academic background, I did
my PHD in IIT Delhi, with Prof. Mangala Joshi, who
happens to be a professor at department of textile
and fiber technology at IIT Delhi and I was also a
dart scholar, so I did half of my masters at IIT Delhi,
and other half at University of Stuttgart, Germany.
So while we were doing completion thesis at last
year of my PHD. So the research topic was around
anti-microbial technology in polymer materials. So
we were thinking that we already devised ways to
make plastic, polymers anti-microbial, at that point
of the time we did not have any business idea. But
then we realized that if we are not the people who
take this technology forward then it will remain as
piece of paper. So that was the basis of this startup
journey. We started in October 2019, and we first
started to generate revenue in May 2020.
Can you tell us about your products?
So, what we have done is we have an antimicrobial
solution based out of active copper which has
the capacity to deactivate all kinds of microbes.
And when I say all kind of microbes it includes
bacteria, virus, fungi and algae. If you look at
other technologies in the market they are mostly
anti-bacterial and at the most anti-fungal. But we
go to length and we say this is four in one technology
that is bacteria, virus, fungi and algae. So the fact
that it is also the micronutrient technology. So the
micronutrient technology in the sense that because
it is based out of active copper. Active copper is
essential micronutrient which is required for growth
and immunity. That is also a differentiating fact
because silver as we know it is very toxic and it is
predominantly used for anti-microbial technology.
So having said that, we not only have application
in textile, but also have a plastic and polymer
vertical in which we supply master batches. This
are concentrates of active copper with polymers so
it has to be added during melt compounding stage
or during molding stage to make plastics also anti-
microbial.
What are some customer segments that your
company serve?
We started our journey with N-Safe mask, so this
mask is 50 times re-usable active copper imbibed
mask. So this mask has the capacity to neutralize
Sars-Cov-2 virus on contact. So just within 30 mins.
Sars-Cov-2 viruses killed by 95% and within hour the
99% virus is completely wiped. And this is one of the
very first mask to be launched during first lockdown.
If you can remember, Lockdown-1 was most chaotic

phase of the whole COVID pandemic when there
was no other masks in the market. There was only
surgical masks and N-95 mask and this was sold
at very high price. And we were one of the first
companies to launch the mask which is 50 times
more re-usable which was a very big thing back
then. And plus with anti-microbial effect and first
movers advantage we started generating revenue,
so people started acknowledging us and we also got
a lot of media coverage during May 2020. That was
when our journey started. When masks died down
quickly in the next two-three months. We realized
that we have to position ourselves as a technology
provider company. That was when we shifted to B2B
space. And in the B2B space we started providing
formulations to Textile Company to make their
clothing and textiles anti-microbial. Similarly in the
polymer space we were giving them solutions to
make their products anti-microbial. So to give an
example, astral water tanks uses our technology in
the inner layer to make anti-microbial water tanks.
A very leading water purifier company uses our
technology in some of the parts to make the water
fortifies with copper as well as anti-microbial water.
These are some names, of course we are working
hugely in water contact applications and in the
polymer applications.
Through Technotex our main objective was to
connect to textile industry especially to non-woven
space. And we aim to collaborate with them to
give unique anti-microbial solution, to make their
product anti-microbial.
What is your vision for the company?
So first of all, India as of now imports lot of anti-
microbial, this is only possible because we do not
have very high quality anti-microbial formulation in
India. So that is why many Indian textile companies
importing from either the USA or UK and we would
like to change that scenario. Where we would
like to provide antimicrobial solutions not only in
India but also on the global platform. Also we are
the only global company to provide active copper
technology. So we intent to be in the B2B space. And
we intent to thrust our formulations in the B2B space
in the plastics, polymers and in the textile industries
and we hope to become leader in active copper
anti-microbial technology and safe, sustainable
anti-microbial solutions provider.
What is your current market share?
In the polymers space we are having good market
share but in the textile space we recently started. Till
last year we were completely in the polymers space,
in textile space we have not seen that much growth
because of some certification issue, we corrected
them from our end and then in this year, we intent
to connect with the leading players in the textile
industry and to some of them we already supplied
our solutions, and they are already taking trials in
the commercial stage and the pilot stage. We see a
very good potential, and by the end of this year we
can provide you a full figure of market share.
Are there any plans for new product or category
launches in the near future?
In the near future, we are seeing sustainability is
becoming a big thing. So everybody is discussing
about green textile and sustainable solutions
so in the polymer space we are working on the
bio-degradable additive on master batch. That if
you add in conventional polymer, the polymer or the
plastic will degrade much faster. This is one RD we
are doing presently. Also in the textile sector we are
trying to see effect of very green and organic active
ingredients like neem, tulsi, haldi, the extracts of
which can impart anti-microbial benefits in a very
sustainable way.
What is your advice to the new startups that are
coming to the industry?
As a startup, it is always a roller-coaster ride, there
are going to be ups and downs, and you have to
keep your calm and go through every challenges. I
think this applies to all the entrepreneurs out there
and for new startups, this is the era of startup. Three
to four years back when we started there was not
much support but looking at the current scenario
and schemes of government, now is one of the best
time to take risk and open a new company. And also
we need lot of job creators instead of job seekers
in the industry. Of course with startup we can solve
many pressing needs that India needs today. Which
can’t be done otherwise with the bureaucratic
corporate agency or the government.

were writing the thesis of their research.
From 2020 to 2021, they did multiple pilots to gain
deeper insights around problems faced by fashion

Our closed-loop system is built on three pillars. First is
unique physical IDs and digital product passports for
each product. Second is PAN India’s reverse logistics
network and the third is an ecosystem of circularity
partners like recyclers, resellers, NGOs, etc.
Brand/retailer attaches unique physical IDs to
their products, fills in the relevant information
in the digital product passport and sells their
products across channels. Post usage, customers
scan/tap the physical IDs attached to products to
see the available information and raise requests
for reselling, donation, recycling, etc. We fulfil
these requests by picking up the product from the

based on the proximity principle and the condition
of the product.

Before too soon, when our natural resources
become scarce waste accumulation reaches a
tipping point, waste streams will become the future
quarriesforminingmaterials. Ourpracticeisfocused
on investigating value chains and making waste
materials come to life again. This is the rebirth of
materials that were once exiled to towering landfills
or incinerators.
Journey Till now
‘PEOPLE OFTEN THINK I LOVE WASTE, THE TRUTH
IS – I HATE IT SO MUCH THAT I WANT IT TO END AT
ITS GENERATION POINT.’
Shubhi Sachan is a multidisciplinary designer who
works as a consultant for various companies. In
2014, she graduated with M.A. in Material Futures
at Central Saint Martins’ School of Art and Design
in London where she developed her projects such as
Life of a bullet Traditional Futures. These projects
were focused on manmade agricultural waste and
its impact on our everyday life. Prior to this Shubhi
has been working as a surface designer for brands
such as Givenchy, Balmain, Alexander McQueen,
Ralph Lauren, etc.
Shubhi has been a TEDx Speaker in 2018, a Lexus
Design Award Finalist in 2018, CII Green Co. Best
Practices Award in 2016. She has also been invited to
present work at various prestigious platforms such
as Lakme Fashion Week, Mumbai in 2017, Ambiente
Talents at Messe Frankfurt 2017, London Design
Week 2014 to 2016, Dutch Design Week 2015
2020. Roche Bobois Student Design Competition in
Paris 2013.

Shubhi embarked on this journey to sustainability
after spending six years of working with the
fashion/textile industry and realizing the materiality
involved in the process of making products vs the
presentation of the finished objects. There was a
huge disconnect between the two worlds, which
eventually became the most unsettling feeling for
us. Our current work is about channelising the
post-industrial and agricultural waste, where we
not only propose the alternative ways to use the
materials but also to alter the conventional notion
of waste being sent to landfill or incineration units.
Process Involved in Re birth of Material
We are focused on remodeling the use of industrial
agricultural waste materials by combining the
knowledge and skills of traditional crafts with
modern materials. In one process, the sophistication
of traditional craft is capable of turning the most
unrelenting of materials into fluid surfaces through

complex weaves. The multitude of these creative
processes can enable an organic transformation of
industrial waste into usable products. At the Material
Library of India, we are able to generate and sustain
a latent value in industrial waste materials that can
be harvested. This is a conscious step to encourage
emerging makers to use these non-hazardous waste
materials as legitimate resources to make everyday
products, ranging from furniture to lifestyle
accessories, from textiles to ceramics. Modern
manufacturing not only needs to be clean but also
environmentally friendly for future generations.

Material literacy is an academic course designed by
the Material Library of India. This course provides
students from various disciplines an insight into
our everyday materiality including the materials
from various waste channels. The objective is
to trigger creativity backed by Research and
Development to fuse various waste materials and
convert them into meaningful sustainable Products.
This benefits not only the environment but also
provides a boost to the local economy by engaging
small businesses, artisans, and craftsmen.

We run a thrift store named “ EX-CHANGE” where
we collect unwanted/used/wornout/outgrown
clothes .We want people to declutter their system
as well as reduce the burden on the environment.
We help them declutter these clothes jumping out
from their wardrobe and give them a second life.
After the collection we segregate the clothes into
3 categories, REUSE, REPAIR AND RECYCLE. The
clothes which cannot be repaired and can’t be
reused goes into further recycling.
We have been receiving immense support from
our small community that we are building and the
response has been great so far.
These are the 3 ways to buy-
• Bring 1 kg and get 1pc
• Swap one to one

Boyce in January 2015. From February 2015 till
January 2017 an archive of 700+ waste materials
from 39 facilities was rigorously categorized and
cataloged. In parallel, thorough research on 9
materials was done to be able to come up with a
product range and make a business case of these
