2. Lighting
• When the girls are in the cave, most of the light
that is used is practical lights to make it look like
how they would see it. For example, the night
vision that is used to show how dark the caves
would be.
• In the film, Juno uses a huge green glow stick, this
is because the director didn’t want to use huge
set lights to light the studio as it would of taken
some of tension of the atmosphere away.
3. Props
• Props can vary from climbing gear to
prosthetic body parts. For example, when
Holly’s
• An important prop in the film is the hook that
is climbing gear, however, when the creatures
are introduced it turns into a weapon. Not just
to kill the creatures, its also used to kill Beth
this means that this piece of climbing
equipment is really important to the film.
4. Costume
• Costumes are very important to the films,
especially in The Descent because the
creatures will have to have a lot of work to
ensure they look weird and scary. It took the
make up artist 2 hours to do each creature
and make they look how the director wanted
them to look.
5. Colour
• Whenever the girls are in the cave, the lights
give off a red glow, this is because red
symbolizes blood and blood and gore are one
of the main themes in this film.
• Also green is a main colour in the film because
of the many scenes of night vision that are
used. This is because the director wanted the
audience to see the film exactly how the
characters would.
6. Diegetic
• Most of the sounds in the film are diegetic
sounds, because you would actually hear all
the noises like footsteps and water dripping if
you actually go caving.
7. Non-Diegetic
• There aren’t a lot of non-diegetic sounds in
the descent as there are no voice overs. The
only non-diegetic sound is the music that is
played to built tension and to create suspense.
