2. This shot is an Close up of the main character, he looks as if his eyes are fixed on a target. He is
the fourth character seen so far but looks like he could be the main character. The expression on
his face shows mysteriousness and aniexty.
3. Mise En Scene
The house in the background shows that it is not
maintained. It looks deserted and run down. The high
grass gives the effect that this is in the desert (country
side). Also by the costume that the man wearing
dungarees, long sleeved t-shirt and sun hat he looks
like a dirty farmer.
4. Figure expression in this shot shows the character looks
controlling and worried at the same time. The director doing this
is giving the audience some sort of idea of what this character is
about, as he is one of the first male characters on screen he
could be the main character.
5. Medium Shot
This shot is showing a location in the film as this is the
beginning and no dialogue is going on except sound
effects, this location has something to do with the
background of the story as at least two scenes before
have animals. The shot is dark so this could be showing
the atmosphere that could be what the movie is about.
6. • Track shot
• This is a track shot of one of the animals
walking as in a lot of scenes already animals
are involved, we can assume they have a big
role or influence in the film on the main
character.
7. • Medium shot
This shot is showing more of the location but
giving the audience the impression that this is in
a warehouse for butchering. Butchering animals
has appeared so many times we know it is part
of the storyline. The props such as the pig head
and body goes back to my point that animals is a
big influence in the film. Also the steamy
background concludes that this is a warehouse.
8. • Long Shot
This shot is showing more of the location, as we
can see in the background it looks like a
butchering ware house for animals hence why
the first few shots had animals. Looking at this
shot we can tell that butchering has a lot to do
with the film, so it does fit the horror genre.
9. • Extreme close up
The close up shows that the female is in pain as
this is a horror movie she could be the first
victim. The effects that this scene has is dark,
gloomy and old. We can tell she is not the main
character in the movie.
10. • Extreme Long shot
• This shot is showing a rock and the sun shining
leading to the assumption, that the film is set in a
desert.
11. • Zoom
This is a zoom so the audience can see what
animals are actually involved in the film. The
zoom is for effect to show how lifeless the cow
looks.
12. • Performance
The chemistry between the two characters male and female is
non existent. In the scene we see that the male is not
concerned about the female’s ware beings. The female
looks terrified but also is ranked lower ,in terms of the
relationship between her and the male. We can see this
during her dying through child birth, and the male
character does nothing to help. Another male involved in
the scene does not have a big role, so we can see he is not
a main character . The relationship and chemistry between
him and the other male is again non existent, as the other
ale is the boss and looks down upon his workers.
13. Editing
• Cuts
• The cuts used in the film opening sequence are
between showing animals and a bit of the
storyline. The director has made these cuts to
show that they are important. The cuts are slow
because this building up tension but also there is
no need to keep cutting as the opening scene is in
one location and not a lot of action is going on.
• 180- The rule is broken as when they are filming
the animals and people it is shown from two
different sides.
14. Diegetic Sound
• Lots of speech is included one of the opening
sequence scenes this is diegetic sound being
used. We as the audience are able to hear what
the characters are saying also the director has
given it an extra effect of being able to hear one
of the characters breathing. Another diegetic
sound being used is the noises the animals make
are genuine. The director has done this to give
the audience again another extra effect of
thinking we are there.
15. Non diegetic sound
• One of the Non diegetic sounds being used in the
opening sequence is the gate due to the fact the
microphones being used in this specific scene is
trying to record the animal noises as well as them
walking around, the audience would not be able to
hear the gate. Also the butchering of the meat and
the fans in the background are non diegetic it could
be diegetic but due to a large quantity of speech in
this scene in my opinion it is non diegetic.
16. Pace
• The pace in the opening sequence is slow
because the director is trying to show the
storyline as well as build up tension for the
movie. In the opening sequence it stays at the
same pace through out doing this the director
is showing the audience more depth into the
storyline then going straight into the action.
